Introducing Full name : Chanika Methpreechakul Nickname : J.A Previous education : BA Architecture Current education :MA Interior design Country : Thailand
Past : I have spent the last five years in the architecture faculty. Whilst originally not knowing who I was or what I wanted to be, I’ve learnt so much about design, construction, materials and history, that I’m starting to create a professional identity for myself. One experience that will never leave me was a hotel design program. l was fascinated by this course, and it was my first time doing interior design with greater focus. Eventually, I started to search more about interior design. There were many styles of interiors, but when I saw modern British interior design, I suddenly felt that I could see myself working in that industry. Knowing that I wanted to immerse myself in British culture and the British design industry, I settled on a move over here to this beautiful country.
Present : In 2019, I was offered a place in one of greatest creative arts universities in the world. One of the greatest experiences of my life to date was on this Pre-sessional course, where I have been able to improve my English language before going on to study my master’s degree. These last five weeks I’ve learnt how to prepare myself throughout this course. Moreover, with British tutors, I have improved my critical thinking, academic writing and speaking which relate to my major. It’s made me a more confident person and I now feel l am ready to go to the new world.
Future : By 2020, l will have graduated from my course in Canturbury. One of the many ideas I have in mind is applying for an international interior design firm in London. I intend to get 2-3 years for my interior design experiences in the UK. After that, l will go back to Thailand to establish my company, using my ability to create a good project for people. I hope l can be a part of the world’s design team to make a better future for the world.

PREVIOUS EDUCATION: BA INTERIOR DESIGN FUTURE EDUCATION: MA INTERIOR DESIGN WORK EXPERIENCE: NTERIOR DESIGN COMPANY IN SHENZHEN
I felt the real pleasure of interior design after I started to work. I used my ideas and professional knowledge to meet their needs and solve their problems. When I finish a project, I will feel a sense of accomplishment. With the increase of working experience, I found that interior design not only helps people improve their quality of life but also explores the sustainability of people, space and environment, which makes me more fascinated with interior design. Therefore, I choose to continue my postgraduate study in UCA.
PAST 3
In retrospect, my talent for interior design has been reflected in my childhood. Mahjong is a very popular card game in China. When I was a kid I often like to use rectangular mahjong pieces to build a layout model of a house, although I had no idea about interior design at the time. Under the advice of my art teacher, I chose the interior design as my major in college.

Everything was so new to me in the 10 week Pre-sessional English course, from the first day when I was at a loss to buy daily necessities in the supermarket, to the end when I became familiar with using Google docs, Prezi, WordPress, Facebook and so on. During this period, we visited four different places for the course, including the V&A, Tate Modern. These places have a lot of works of art that I used to only see on the Internet, which are amazing and inspire me a lot of art. Finally, I successfully finished four academic papers and presentations. I am very happy to have made great progress, and these achievements and experiences help me better adapt to the coming postgraduate study.
PSEAD
I am looking forward to going to UCA to study my MA course and I hope I can have a pleasant and fulfilling year in Canterbury. In the future, I want to form my unique design concept and become an excellent designer through my postgraduate study combined with my own practical experience. Not only to help more people to solve the housing problem, but also to study more sustainable development of space, to change the current human deficiencies and to create a better concept of future life.
FUTURE
To begin with my background, I have a Bachelor degree in Architecture from Thammasat University in Thailand. My studies focused on learning how to design the exterior of a large-scale building. However, I discovered that I started to become more interested in interior design when I had a chance to participate on a project of this nature. Interior design gave me the freedom to mix and match moods and tones of design together. I began to understand the importance of interior design. Interior design, to me, is designing space on a human scale that influences human activities.
I decided to study abroad in interior design at UCA after I had worked as a 3D designer in a real estate company in Bangkok, Thailand, for a year. I would like to expand my knowledge of architecture design and combine it with interior design.

PROFILE
After I finish the PSEAD course, I am going to start my main course, Interior Design, in Canterbury. It will be a busy MA student life, but I will do my best to gain in-depth knowledge and experience from this course. I will be able to make the most of the time there to garner essential skills for my future career.
In the future, I hope the knowledge and experiences that I gain from the interior design program courses can make me even more well-rounded in the various aspects of design, such as museum and exhibition design, leisure design, retailing design, etc. After I graduate, I would like to start my career in an interior design studio and focus on museum and exhibition design field in a foreign country for three years to gain more experience.
FUTURE PRESENT I’m currently studying on the UCA 2019 Pre-sessional English course for art and design at Rochester. My first valuable experience of this course was meeting a lot of international friends. Since then, we’ve done project work together and shared different ideas and perspectives.
I have learned many things from the tutors in this course. They have not only taught me about academic skills but they’ve also shared many interesting ideas in design.
Besides, I gained many experiences from field trips in this course. I went to Margate, a seaside town, and Tate Modern, a gallery in London. They inspired me a lot about the concept design for my future course.
