Solitude in the Context of Communal Life A Quiet, Contemplative Graduate Student Residence This project is about creating a place that delivers solitude in the context of communal life where an individual can find peace and contemplation. This project aimed to respect and emphasize on the importance of our personal space in relationship to the community and examined how design could acknowledge one personal pursuit of enlightenment. While the design of individual rooms let residences have solitude and a place for contemplation, various communal spaces that are arranged in distinct zones provide multiple chances for interaction and sharing thoughts and ideas. One of the main challenge of this project was, providing natural light and an indoor/outdoor relationship for each individual units while maintaining the original character of the exterior of the existing building. Built in 1946, the building of the West Heating Plant has historical significance and the character of the building must be respected by the proposed design.

Micro Spaces Inspired by Naom Gabo Kinetic Art, this project aimed to design two micro spaces: A kiosk with two programs: a coffee stand and a flower stand that sells fresh flowers and also adjacent to that a residential building with micro units. The Design Concept was developed by translating the design elements of Naom Gabo sculptures into a series of two and three dimensional models. Both designs of the kiosk and the residential building informed with the same concept. The residential building includes multiple habitable micro units for the specified users. Located at Wisconsin Ave., Washington DC. The building is going to cater to single young professionals.

Located in the same site, The kiosk and the residential building are suppose to have the same visual language and relate to each other visually. Also the sunken approach to the coffee kiosk create a moment of pause and disconnection from hustle and bustle on main street. Moreover, the flower stand acting as a buffer between the street and the residential building.

A Sustainable Law Office This 17000 SF office building accommodates 23 attorneys, three conference rooms, a lunch room, and dedicated spaces for each supporting member. The main objective is to design an interior which is sustainable, first and foremost by designing an interior that utilizes daylight as much as possible. By arranging all the major social areas like conference rooms and lunch room along the southern facade all the employee can have access to natural light. Using translucent materials for partition walls will also let more natural light penetrate to the interior spaces. Using LED light sources throughout the office will reduce energy consumption. Specifying low VOC adhesives and paints will positively impact the indoor air quality. Beside all the sustainability concerns, the client wants to project the sense of trustworthiness and a reliable support to its client. Offering supportive hands to help and protect clients. Clients arrive into a elevator corridor that direct them to the reception. The office area consists of two distinct zones: staff area and social area. A warm wooden canopy is extended from elevator corridor and connect these two parts of office.

The Canyon Staircase | Inspired By Nature & Art The design intention was to add a monumental architectural feature in the lobby of an office building located in Beijing, China. An architectural element that is inspired by nature and art. The proposed sculptural staircase inspired by slot canyon creates a focal point in the main lobby. This staircase connects the main lobby to the second floor co-working space functionally and visually. The curved semi enclosed staircase surprises the user with a virtual waterfall. This unique experience transforms this architectural element into a memorable piece of art inspired by nature.

Multi-Generational Residence A family of three is going to welcome their grandparents to live with them. The design intent is to renovate the interior of their existing house to accommodate their aging parents needs and also create a relaxing home for all the members. The new plan will provide a barrier-free first floor and create an accessible bedroom on the first floor. Also the family is interested in Abstract art and owns a painting by Richard Diebenkorn, which they want to incorporate into the design. This Abstract painting with large areas of warm colors evokes the shimmering light and wide-open spaces of California. An open floor plan in the first floor and utilizing lots of natural light and connecting the backyard to the living and dinning room with folding doors inspired by the quality of the painting.
