We are in Kingdom of Bahrain, an archipelago of Persic Gulf bordering on Saudi Arabia and Qatar STFA is realizing a project for Jan De Nul NV this consists in designing and realizing infrastructures and flooring on see level for an extension of 41 Km. Also building two moorages, respectively at North and South side of the entire construction, in addition all the necessary structures for ferry-boats docking. The hardest part of the job to realize the raised road consists of main bridge with a length of 2.4 Km, five bridges 180 m each and eight channels structured by 250 elements 5mx3mx3m. Leica Geosystems challenge was to create a GPS guiding solution to maneuver the Pontoon to transport the excavator exactly on project areas. Also a GPS guiding solution for the Excavator mounted on the Pontoon, that displays in real time dredging operations updating project plan. The entire solutions had to be designed to up stand environmental conditions, both in daily high temperatures ( more then 50°C) and high dust concentration.
