Modified XC-2 system for deep marine application
JAN DE NUL • One of our biggest costumers is the dredging company JAN DE NUL. • They where one the main contractors for the PALM ISLAND in DUBAI.
Collaboration between Leica JAN DE NUL • To be able to do this project in an efficient way, we could convince them to use the MIKRODIGGER system. • The MIKRODIGGER was linked to a 3D unit. • We did some test in belgium and they where very happy with the result.
Problems we faced • Due to the very salty water and the high temperatures the connectors of the sensors and even the sensors it selves corroded away in a few weeks time. • Therefore we had to come up with a housing where we could mount the sensor in and witch was resistant to the environment in Dubai
The solution • So we have an RVS housing that gives great mechanical protection and that is water tight. • We also looked for the best connectors that are water tight up to 700m depth. • We created 2 models: – One for the bucket sensor – One for the stick sensor
The 2 versions The bucket version
The stick version

New application • Recently JAN DE NUL has developed or modified an excavator so it can be controlled by remote control and that is submerged completely till up to 30m.
