Sudoku

In a 9-by-9 grid and the goal is to find the right placement for the numbers 1 through 9 in each row, column and box. All nine numbers must be used, and none can be repeated. Beginners can find puzzles that are grids of 4 by 4 or 6 by 6 in which they would only use numbers 1 through 4 or 1 through 6, respectively.

Tic Tac Toe

Players take turns putting their marks in empty squares. The first player to get 3 of her marks in a row (up, down, across, or diagonally) is the winner. When all 9 squares are full, the game is over. If no player has 3 marks in a row, the game ends in a tie. X O

Dots & Boxes

Players take turns adding a single horizontal or vertical line between two unjoined adjacent dots. A player who completes the fourth side of a 1×1 box earns one point and takes another turn. A point is typically recorded by placing a mark that identifies the player in the box, such as an initial.

Fun around the Campfire

Make the most of your time together outside (and away from screens) by playing games around the campfire.

Sing a Silly Song:

Make up a song to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, switching phrases after each person and going around the campfire. Keep repeating the song until you have gone all the way around the circle. Make is silly and stay on your toes so you don’t miss a line.

Sound Train:

Agree on an initial sound (e.g., “ch” or “r”). Go around the circle naming words with just that initial sound until you cant think of any more. The last person who thinks of an applicable word gets to choose the next sound that goes around.

Two Truths and a Lie: Each person takes turns sharing three “facts” about themselves. Two are actually true and one is a lie. The rest of the group has to decide which one is the lie.

20 Questions Family Game:

One person thinks of a family they know and keeps it a secret. The rest of the group asks them yes or no questions to try and figure out which family they are thinking of. The group has only 20 questions to try and figure it out.

Make Me Laugh?:

Choose one person in the group to sit in the “hot seat”. The rest of the group has to try and get them to laugh without touching them, making fun of them, or being mean. The goal is for the hot seat person to go for an entire two minutes without laughing!

Spread the Love:

Choose one person who is in the “hot seat”. Go around the circle and everyone has a chance to give a compliment to the person in the hot seat. Only Rule? Nothing can be repeated!

Telephone:

This is an oldie but a goodie! One person starts the game by gently whispering a phrase into the ear of the person next to them. Then that person turns and whispers it into the ear of the person on the other side. Continue around the circle until it ends with the person who started it. Rarely does the phrase return the same way it started.

Putting up A Tent 101

Getting a good night of rest starts with a comfortable place to sleep. And that means you need to set up your tent in the best location.

• Find flat ground. Look for an area that is slightly larger than the size of the tent and as flat as you can find, without any rocks or roots

• Avoid putting your tent under any dead trees or limbs, in case they fall down. Look for a place with healthy trees to provide shade.

• Lay out your tent. Use tent stakes to ground the corners of your tent. Finally, attach the tent poles to the tent.

• Don’t forget your rain fly. This is a cover that goes over your tent and keeps it dry if it rains. Of your tent doesn’t have a rain fly, tie a tarp above your tent for added shelter.

Camping at Home

Before you ever arrive at the campsite, it’s a good idea to practice pitching your tent in your living room or in a backyard with an adult. All tents are different, and they do take a little practice. When you get to the campsite, challenge yourself to set up the tent on your own.

Parkers Bike Safety Tips

Always wear a Helmet and Fasten it. Look both ways for traffic.

Obey the Rules of the Road. Ride of the Right Hand Side of the road. Wear Bright Clothes. Use a backpack to carry your stuff. Always lock up your bike.

Always ride with a friend.

Fitting a Bicycle Helmet Correctly The helmet should sit level on your head; wear it low on your forehead, two fingers above the eyebrows. Adjust the plastic slider on both straps to form a “V” shape under your ears.

Tighten the chin strap and adjust the pads inside so the helmet doesn’t move.

The helmet should fit snugly and MUST always be buckled – EACH time you ride.
