June 24 - Boss Mama and the Jebberhooch

Boss Mama (Colleen Myhre) is a Mahtowa, Minn., country/Mississippi blues/soul singer/songwriter who pours out her heart with every note. Her songwriting ranges from honest emotion and earthly imagery to the raucousness of horses, strippers and whiskey. Myhre possesses the ability to hypnotize listeners by creating sympathy between her voice and guitar that resonates a true American and northern Minnesota spirit. For this show, she is backed by her band, The Jebberhooch, a mixture of musicians from different bands.

July 1 - the 4onthefloor

The 4ontheFloor will be back! Joining together in the name of fun and joy, the 4onthefloor bring their welloiled, high-octane, rock ’n roll to the world. The furious delivery ebbs and flows with sing-a-long anthems and breakdowns to soaring guitar solos and unbridled full-bore rock. Camaraderie is a common theme. Hailing from Minnesota, they take the heavy road route, grooving in the tracks of road musicians before them. Following in the footsteps of some of the band’s influences, being on the road plays a large role in the writing. Gabriel Douglas writes about experiences, failures, successes and notso-much the what-could-have beens.

July 8 - Pat Lenertz Band

Moorhead native Pat Lenertz is a veteran of the Fargo/Moorhead scene with 15 years experience playing, singing and fronting several bands. Whether it’s onstage at The Hub belting out Bob Marley covers backed by a nine-piece reggae tribute act or strapping on an acoustic and kicking off the HPR Best Bets winning open mic night at the Sidestreet Bar and Grille, he is comfortable commanding the attention of any space. Drawing on his love for Americana and roots musicians like Willie Nelson, Wilson Pickett, Bill Withers, John Prine and Bob Dylan, Lenertz found the perfect band of brothers to help tell his musical stories.

Noon Hour Concerts

The Noon Hour Concert summer series will commence after being postponed last summer because of COVID-19.

All concerts are from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. COVID guidelines will be followed and there will be no social time.

The summer concert schedule is as follows: ▶ June 17: North Wind Clarinets at Calvary Church, Park Rapids. ▶ June 24: Organist Angie Doty will perform at St. Johns Lutheran Church. ▶ July 1: Timothy Pinkerton, violin, and Sarah Carlson, piano, at Calvary Lutheran Church. ▶ July 8: A brass group at Calvary Lutheran Church with musicians Craig Swartz, trumpet; Ryan Webber, trombone; Brennan Paulsen, tuba; Eve Sumsky, horn; and Kyle Riess, trumpet. ▶ July 15: Eric Haugen on cello and flautist Claire Gunsbury at Calvary Lutheran Church. Northern Light Opera Company

The Northern Light Opera Company (NLOC) marks the 20th year of producing professional, quality music theater in the Heartland Lakes area.

NLOC presents “PIPPIN” at the Park Rapids Armory Arts & Events Center, July 30 through August 7. NLOC’s directors were inspired by Pippin’s rustic magic and the cheekiness in Stephen Schwartz’s score. A fun part of the show will be the ensemble, or “Band of Players,” who play many zany roles.

Pippin is eldest son and heir to Emperor Charlemagne’s throne. His story is a journey to find the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. The adventure leads to glories of the battlefields, time spent in debauchery, intrigues of political powers, and finally he finds true happiness in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day. 2021’s challenges are still unknown, but plans are to continue with the NLOKids camp at the end of June into July for 9-13 year olds. For three weeks, equal number of kids from Pine Point and Park Rapids write the script, compose music and build sets and costumes for an original musical to perform for parents and friends. Registration will be handled by Park Rapids Schools Community Education.
