Discover Mandalay Beach One of the most beautiful beaches in the Walpole area that is acessible by twowheel-drive. The beach is named after the Norweigan barque Mandalay, wrecked there in 1911. At times, parts of the wreck are visible above the sand.

Must see Mandalay Beach is a great stop en route between Manjimup and Walpole for its stunning beach scenery and the opportunity to glimpse the wreck of the Mandalay. This area is popular with anglers, but even if you don’t fish, it’s worth the visit for the spectacular views of the Southern Ocean and Chatham Island, which looms out of the water three kilometres offshore. Getting there Mandalay Beach is 18 kilometres west of Walpole. Turn off South Coast Highway at Crystal Springs and follow the winding gravel road for eight kilometres to the beach. Travelling time? 35 minutes from Walpole. What is there? This is a very beautiful spot with boardwalks down to the beach, historical information and interpretation, whalewatching lookouts and toilets. Best season This is an attractive spot all year round. Coast risk area This stretch of coast can be hazardous due to large, unpredictable waves and swells, DANGER slippery rocks and strong currents. For your safety: • always pay attention to the ocean • keep well clear of the sea • avoid slippery rocks and loose surfaces • supervise children at all times • notify someone of your expected time of return.
