range of high-performance LEDs.

Narva sees their new Ultima globes as a direct replacement for standard halogen globes. The company says its Ultima globes offer the added benefits of a bright, white light output (2000 lumens per globe), coupled with long-life performance of over 30,000 hours. This, says Narva, means the Ultima globes are unlikely to ever need replacing over the life of an average vehicle. Available in 12V and 24V variants and in a range of popular globe types, Narva states the new Ultima LED globes will expand its performance globe range. LED light has become increasingly popular in both the new vehicle and aftermarket industries due to its ability to offer improved visibility and reduce fatigue when driving at night. Narva states that the white light output of its Ultima LEDs closely resembles natural daylight and delivers a beam pattern with the correct cut-off for low-beam use on roads in Australia and New Zealand. This results in the globes not ‘dazzling’ oncoming road users while still providing light where the driver needs it.

CreditOne handles the finance for everything, mitigating the need for clients to have to call multiple providers and engineer multiple agreements. “We will also step in to help businesses obtain working capital in order to secure products from an overseas source. If you have a company importing products that they have to pay for up-front in order to get it here to sell, we can bridge that gap too. “We see ourselves more as a finance partner than as a part of a traditional provider-customer relationship,” Lani concludes. “With more CreditOne people on the ground now, we’re that much closer to our customers.” Visit creditone.co.nz for more details.

Foxwell diagnostic tools offering more for less STAHLCAR SCAN TOOLS IS THE OFFICIAL DISTRIBUTOR OF TRUSTED FOXWELL DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS IN NEW ZEALAND. THE FOXWELL RANGE IS GROWING, WITH SOLUTIONS FOR THE PROFESSIONAL AND DIY MECHANIC ALIKE

W

hen the New Zealand Automobile Association opt for a particular brand of scan tool, you know it will have to come with a solid reputation for reliability in the field. That brand happens to be Foxwell.

Distributed by Stahlcar Scan Tools, Foxwell handheld and portable diagnostic tools cover an enormous range of vehicles and systems. The line-up is comprehensive, featuring tools suited to the home mechanic or the professional. Take the Foxwell NT644 Pro, for example. This New Zealand-specific handheld includes diagnostic read capabilities for Holden and Australianassembled Ford vehicles, giving local service providers the right tool for the job when dealing with these mass-market makes. “Foxwell prides itself on offering leading-edge technology that doesn’t cost the earth,” says Nick Wright from Stahlcar. “Every garage, big or small, needs some form of diagnostic equipment. Because of the diversity of the Foxwell range, there is a tool to suit every operation.” Offering even more value for money, last year Foxwell introduced free software updates on almost all of its diagnostic range. This wasn’t a onetime offer either; those software updates are free for the life of the tool, meaning that the investment will continue working for you over time. Stahlcar Scan Tools offers full back-up and support on Foxwell tools. “If you need advice, you won’t be speaking to a call centre offshore; you’ll get help from a Kiwi firm that stakes its reputation on the technology,” concludes Nick.

As the weights of engine oils get lower, and service intervals get longer, the need for a high-quality base oil like YUBASE – a 100 per cent synthetic Group III base oil – is becoming more important. All Zic engine oils are manufactured from YUBASE, which futureproofs the lubricant for the rapidly evolving automotive industry. AUTOVIEW AV TRACK AVDV5200 GIVES USER ALL-IN-ONE PRACTICALITY THE AUTOVIEW AV TRACK AVDV-5200 IS THE FLEET MANAGER AND VEHICLE OWNER’S EYES EVERYWHERE OUT ON THE ROAD

T

he all-new AutoView AV Track AVDV-5200 is a comprehensive fleet management and tracking system that makes use of on-board cameras and Digital Video Recorder (DVR)

and GPS technology. “It’s a convergence of everything in one,” says importer Grant Eveleigh, managing director of DLG International. The new tracking system not only allows the user to check where vehicles are but also lets the vehicle owner or fleet manager watch what’s going on in front of the vehicle — and if need be visualize the driver – in real time, or check the cargo isn’t being interfered with. “This system isn’t just about tracking, though,” continues Grant. “It includes geo-fencing, the ability to record total mileage or trip-by-trip time/distance travelled, all at the click of a button on your desktop computer or mobile app. All the things a fleet manager needs are right there, including vehicle and driver details, servicing reminders and over-speed tracking. “The system account can handle an unlimited number of vehicles per account as well,” he says. The AutoView system uses Android 5.1 to do all the work, with a two-channel DVR via the built-in cameras. The through-windscreen camera is 1080P and the internal camera with night vision is 720P. Both cameras feature a 150-degree wide angle view, ensuring everything required is captured clearly. In order to manufacture successful products for these industries, Hella takes its R&D work to extremes. Every Hella product is subjected to countless hours of rigorous testing where a range of harsh conditions including vibration, impact, and rapid temperature fluctuations are simulated. And because moisture ingress is one of the biggest contributors to LED lighting product failure, Hella has developed cutting-edge automated robotic gluing systems that guarantee consistent gluing and sealing, ensuring a long lifespan for its products. Popular lighting solutions such as powerful and sleek LED Light Bars offer increased night-time visibility and Safety DayLights – forward facing signal lamps that significantly enhance the visibility of your vehicle during daylight hours – have become commonplace safety enhancements for both passenger and commercial vehicles. Meanwhile, at the rear of the vehicle, Hella’s highlyvisible DuraLED marker and signal lights – a product innovation that has been a go-to for transport operators since 1998 – exemplifies the ‘fit and forget’ philosophy of the manufacturer. “Hella New Zealand products are developed to the latest international standards and best practice principles, ensuring designs that are ahead of the competition in terms of durability, performance, and efficiency.” concludes Duncan. “And it’s our commitment to quality and reliability that positions Hella as a trusted supplier and development partner of many of the world’s leading manufacturers of passenger cars, commercial fleets, and special purpose vehicles.”

BMW X2

Turns out the X1 wasn’t BMW’s take on the compact crossover vehicle after all; it was this instead What is it? You know how BMW, bless ‘em, love a good niche vehicle? This is the newest and niche-iest. Well, certainly since the Bavarian-based manufacturer single handedly invented the weird sports-coupe-SUV thing anyway (X6 and, latterly, X4). Actually, we’re lying. There are several similarly minded compact crossovers available already; BMW didn’t invent this sub-segment at all. Arch-rivals Mercedes-Benz bet BMW in the ever-so-slightly-raised-ride-height stakes with the GLA back in 2016. Audi’s Q2 has been around for a year or so. What took BMW so long? Honda NSX

Honda’s ‘Mojo Reclaiming’ campaign continues, with the announcement the NSX supercar will be sold in New Zealand What is it? How was the TV reception under that rock you’ve been living under? The last Honda NSX was legendary for providing all the fun bits of a 1990s-era supercar and eliminating all the bad bits (namely, going through a hedge backwards and on fire because you stamped on the accelerator slightly too brusquely). It was also co-developed with the help of some racing driver called Ayrton something-or-rather. The new one has had a very long gestation; it was first announced as likely back in 2007. Remarkably, it took Honda another five years to reveal what we now know as the second-generation car. Badged an Acura in the US (poor saps), it can only ever be a Honda, and that’s what we’ll be getting later this year. What’s interesting about it?

Toyota Hilux SR5 Cruiser

Toyota’s new top-tier truck wants a piece of the premium ute action If there was one big criticism levelled at Toyota’s mainstay ute when the current generation launched a couple of years back, it was the frontal styling. They’ve stuck with it though… well, until now. The SR5 Cruiser iterations (you can get the grade as a 2WD Prerunner or a 4WD) are the only models to wear this new nose, but it’s a nice update and we can’t help but wonder after the new models ain’t so new anymore whether this look will be rolled out across the range. Is it any good? We haven’t driven this particular grade yet, but we’ve driven the rest, and we’ll stand up and declare ourselves Hilux fans. Call it Ranger Fatigue if you want. Amazingly though, after 30-odd years as king of the hill, the Hilux is now the underdog in the face of the all-conquering ute from the Blue Oval Brigade. PAT Premium Engine Management range In introducing the PAT Premium Engine Management solution in 2017, BNT’s aim was to supersede the existing offer with one of OEM product off the back of PAT’s success in the Australian market. With the increase in national car park numbers and the average year of vehicles now well into the 2000s, there has been significant growth in the enginemanagement sector. The modern engine’s evolution to a more electronically controlled system (from traditional mechanical systems) has moved this along too. The PAT programme has now been in place for over eight months and has already earned respect in the market for quality and range acceptance. BNT is committed to growing PAT through new product offers and range extensions and sees this as a crucial category for the company. PLYMOUTH ROCKS: STREET ROD RESTO MORE THAN SKIN DEEP THE MAJOR RESTORATION OF A HEAD-TURNING 1972 PLYMOUTH GTX WAS A TEAM EFFORT, WITH CLASSIC AMERICAN RESTORATION SERVICES LEADING THE CHARGE

hen Steve Sankey from Classic American Restoration Services (CARS) registered Dave Burt’s 1972 Plymouth GTX for him a couple of years before

it underwent a major transformation, he got it shipshape for the road, but knew there were underlying issues. “There was a fair amount of filler through the right-front door and both guards on that side, so it had obviously received a reasonable side-swipe at some stage back in the United States” he says. “Dave always knew he wanted to do a major overhaul on it at some point. He’d driven it at Meremere a couple of times and the diff started playing up, so that’s when we got our hands back on it. We stripped it back to bare metal.” With the engine sent away to Carl Jensen at C&M

sure to prime between every single panel. “It’s time consuming work, but it just gives both us as the customizer, and the owner of the vehicle peace of mind that the car is rust-free and should remain that way for 20, maybe even 30 years.” While the Plymouth is of 1972 vintage, not every part is from the original model year. The rear bumper and taillights in particular were changed. “When we re-fabricated the front guards, we wanted to use the side reflector lights from a 1971 Plymouth, rather than the ’72, which are much squarer. To do this, we needed to create our own stamping die to stamp them into the guards.” Dave wanted his Plymouth to feature a grille that rolled away in its entirety; something Steve was happy to work on. Unfortunately, though, engine-builder Carl Jensen was forced to move the intercooler up further than it normally sits in the street version of the car. This meant

Below: Sean Williams’ flawless ’33 Ford roadster was one of the show’s standout cars. Having built it to drive, that’s just what Sean was doing, driving it to Orewa with the roof off and enjoying the gamut of sensations that could only be provided by a big-cube big block, manual box and no roof at the height of summer. Sean was runner-up in the NZV8 What’s Under Your Hood competition, only missing out to Ian Neary’s ‘Eruption’ Plymouth GTX — very high praise, indeed

Above: This is Dean Blakesley’s sweet ’66 Pontiac Tempest. The original patina is just plain awesome; he’s got the stance spot on; and, knowing how Dean is with cars, we’ve no doubt it’s going to see a bit of an increase in power in some way, shape, or form

Below: This tough ’66 Ford Fairlane was built by Greg Dietsch, to match his vision of a factory R-code car. Thanks to a 428 crankshaft and some rotating-assembly trickery, the 390ci FE has been stroked to around 410ci — and could he have opted for any gearbox other than a Toploader four-speed? This thing is a proper muscle car, finished to a show-quality standard, and Greg’s profession as an automotive upholsterer certainly hasn’t hurt with regard to the interior

Above: Ian Neary’s ’68 Plymouth GTX is easily one of New Zealand’s best-built custom cars, and was recognized as such with a swag of awards at the festival. While there always seems to be a handful of people who refuse to acknowledge what Ian has achieved by building something like this, the reaction this car always gets from car lovers and the general public alike is overwhelmingly positive

Below: Eric and Marion Livingstone’s neat pair of cars make for a bit of Mopar eye candy. Eric’s wild Hemi-powered ’23 T-bucket sure gets around, and has been a familiar sight at car shows for well over the past three decades. It’s more often than not seen with Marion’s wicked six-pack big block ’68 Plymouth Barracuda fastback — a show-stopping slice of pro-street awesomeness!

Above: Brooke Delzell owns this choice ’62 Buick Invicta wagon, still sporting its original signwriting from the States. However, the brushwork is about all that Brooke’s left untouched, with a bit of a stance correction coming thanks to lowered suspension and bigger rims. The old Nailhead was pulled in favour of a 454ci big block and four-stage auto, for effortless cruising ability, and Brooke mentioned there aren’t many weekends the family isn’t piled in to go somewhere

Above: Cathy Willemsen waited a long time to own her dream car, and she’s finally got it. Her stunning ’70 Plymouth Cuda AAR is one of only 36 ever produced in Moulin Rouge pink, and one of just seven believed still to exist with a factory-fitted automatic transmission. Apart from a panel and paint job in the US, the car is almost entirely stock, and even has its original Goodyear Polyglas tyres

1967 Ford Mustang (GT500E) BUILT: MATAMATA PANELWORKS

Built over a period of 18 months, this ’67 Ford Mustang is a world-class example crafted right here in New Zealand. Owner Kelvin Taylor developed the build plan alongside Matamata Panelworks proprietor, Malcolm Sankey. A bare shell was sourced from the States, and the team got to work on the chassis, and later, the custom-handcrafted headlight buckets, front bumper, side skirts, and rear valance. Tim Barwell at The Krysler Shop provided one of his signature rear ends. Wiring was completed by Paul and the team at Onsite Auto Electrical, and the final Volcano Red and Gunmetal Grey paintwork was completed by the Matamata Panelworks paint department.

1933 Ford roadster

BUILT: ROCKET SPEED EQUIPMENT Sean Williams and Angela Gray had a vision for their dream car 15 years ago after Sean purchased a Pete Osborne Productions fibreglass ’33 Ford roadster body. The planning process began over a few beers with John Reid from Rods by Reid, which saw the car sitting at Fabtech 2000 in the hands of Brian Bennett, who completed the custom hood, side panels, and grille. The roadster was then sent to Rocket Speed Equipment for Dan Tyler and the team to handle the majority of the work, including a custom-built removable roof, one-off curved windscreen, and under the hood, a GM Performance ZZ427 crate engine was chosen for its pure grunt. The car was finished by PJ’s Panel & Paint before Mark Stokes from MS Vehicle Certification finalized the certification process.
