The Future is Modular
Bespoke Modular Solutions' CEO Jamal Wick joined us in Montenegro this year and will be back with us in Mauritius. His shared ethos with the event and the delegates has led to new opportunities for his busy company.
WHAT PROJECTS HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN SINCE WE SAW YOU IN MONTENEGRO IN MAY?
We have been very busy! We are currently manufacturing villa extensions for the high-end Al Barari development in Dubai. We are the exclusive manufacturer for this project and we are impressed by the fact that it has strong sustainable principles so we building off site with low site disturbance and low carbon footprint.
Bespoke Modular was also awarded a large project with Nakheel Developer for the manufacture of 57 pods to be designed and built in just four months for a new location called Dubai Island. The pods will be used for a mixture of food and beverage, retail, bathroom, storage and prayer rooms, among other things.
Other projects we have been working on include the Cup 28 at Expo, where we created all the food trucks, food and retail kiosks. We are working with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of KSA, where we are submitting a design for the development of a sustainable hospitality project. Also in this region, we are involved in a design project for a Saudi family office (Al Othaim), for the development of a large entertainment and hotel project in a rural location.
Finally, we are designing and building a villa extension for the Minister of Tourism of Dubai (office, lounge, changing rooms for paddle courts).
HOW MUCH DO YOU FEEL THE SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL INDUSTRY IS NOW EMBRACING THE POSITIVE OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED BY MODULAR CONSTRUCTION?
We are seeing many large and small companies that have a sustainable ethos approach us in regards to Modular Construction because of its advantages; some are in sensitive sites, for example UNESCO protected. Others are in need of a quick turnaround and fast ROI ensuring quality in finishes, which are all examined in our factories.
WHAT WERE YOUR TAKE-HOMES FROM OUR MONTENEGRO EVENT AND WHY DO YOU PLAN TO COME TO THE MAURITIUS EDITION?
I really enjoyed meeting the attendees, everyone shares a real, honest love for creating a better future for generations to come, while embracing planet earth.
HOW IMPORTANT IS COLLABORATION IN OUR SECTOR DO YOU THINK? HAVE YOU PURSUED ANY NEW COLLABORATIONS SINCE OUR EVENT?
It’s extremely important, as we all share a similar vision and that is always an added value in developing projects. I’m currently in final discussions for a joint venture with one of the attendees, and I am also discussing potential projects with 3 others.
WHAT REGIONS DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR IN TERMS OF EXCITING DEVELOPMENT AND RESPONSIBLE SUSTAINABLE GAINS?
Saudi Arabia!
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM BESPOKE MODULAR SOLUTIONS IN 2024?
We are planning a move to a 6500sqm factory with a fully integrated steel and joinery facility, and a large production line.
We also have a number of exciting new projects in the pipeline, developing schools and educational projects in a modular way.
We are launching and doing a joint venture with a luxury tent manufacturer, as well as developing our current design studio!
