I believe in design as a collaborative innovation process. By interrogating the relationship between formal analysis and experiential qualities, I want to achieve unique and functional designs that take into account not only complex design problems, but also related artistic, environmental and social considerations - Designs that excite and challenge the user’s mind in a positive way.

GOODFOOD
Arch 100B | Spring 2015 | UC Berkeley
The intent in creating a mixed-use building located in San Francisco’s South of Market District was to establish a connection with the neighborhood and various programs related to food preparation, education and research. In addition, the challenge was to create a flexible building with an operable skin - one that took environmental impacts into consideration. Two central voids divide the building into four volumes, bringing in light as well as containing the main circulation and kitchens of the building. The skin is a double façade - a glass façade covered by a second layer of skin with a series of strips that twist and fold into the building as well as pinch on the sides to establish an opening. The double façade allows for ventilation, with the outer façade providing shading. The porosity of the façade as well as the shifted floor plates create visual connection between different programs.

This internship experience not only led me to further develop my computer and design skills, but also grasp the understanding of project phases, costs and client needs. This multi-family housing project, located in Mountain View, brings together places for residents to live, work and play alongside El Camino Real Boulevard. The units are organized around a central courtyard. A public bike-pedestrian through way connects the boulevard to Latham Street, culminating a public realm for the residents and the community. I was responsible for putting together a presentation package for the city through the development of sections, diagrams and plans alongside my team as well as researching faรงade panels and other materials.

The Contemporary Library Arch 100A | Fall 2014 | UC Berkeley
The concept of a library has transformed over the recent years into a multiuse dynamic space. Engaging in this new transformation of a library, this project explores connections between the interior spaces and the exterior context. A series of pure conical forms are intersected and subtracted from a rectangular box to create the main circulation and public programs throughout the library. The form of a cone creates interesting moments of compression and expansion of the space and creates different spatial qualities for the users. The programs have been stacked in a way that as one moves up through the library, it is transformed from an ‘urban playground’ to a quiet, open plan reading room.

El Cerrito Stripe
Arch 102A-B | Fall 2015 & Spring 2016 Design/ Research studio | UC Berkeley
At first glance, El Cerrito is a city of cars and passing through. San Pablo Avenue, two freeways and the BART all cut through the city along a N-S axis. But El Cerrito also has a great sense of community and a lot of potential for arts, culture and connection with nature, ready to be explored on foot. El Cerrito Stripes brings together these potentials with a series of pedestrian-oriented interventions which create a horizontal datum across the city on the E-W axis. Each of the strips highlights parts of El Cerrito that are under utilized or unrecognized and allows the visitors to experience the city in a more nuanced and multifaceted way. Colors help in identifying and way finding through each strip.

Moser Strip Art Walk
With the community center and the civic theater in its heart, Moser street is a crucial arts and culture hub for the community. The intention here is to direct the pedestrians toward them, as well as creating two more art centers along this street.

Back to Nature
The Cerrito Creek, daylighted in a few areas, is a hidden treasure in El Cerrito. By creating more direct and indirect interaction with the creek, the community can benefit from its tranquility and connect with nature by walking over or next to it.

Oceanside Retreat RH | Associate Designer | Summer 2017 Located in the historical seaside resort of Hamptons, this vacation home is a peaceful getaway for summers and holidays. The project scope was a living room and dining room space, designed with RH products. The design concept is a play of textures, neutral hues, and subtle contrasts. Each space reflects the next, creating flow and continuity. This residence is a blend of New England style traditional architecture on the exterior and a more modern and clean interior. The interior of the home is filled with natural light and a white and neutral palette. The interior is completed with a selection of RH products, from lighting and furniture, to dĂŠcor and art. Textures and warm woods in the furniture pieces and accents of bronze and green elements, connect the interior of the home to its exterior environment and architecture.

Dining Room
This Spanish Colonial House with its unique architectural elements, dark wood accents and beautiful courtyard, was transformed on the interior to be more light, open and modern, with some touches of Moroccan influence. Using RH’s wide range of products, from paint through decor, multiple spaces including living and dining area, game room, master bedroom, powder room, office and outdoor patios were designed with a light and warm palette, with accents of indigo and reclaimed woods. Each piece was carefully chosen to not only connect and flow from one space to another, but reflect the architecture of the house as well as modernize it. The dÊcor items were curated to create a collection of memories and a sense of home. (Full presentation upon request)

A Murder of Crows, Play This grotesque mysterious play is one with many layers of fantasy and reality and designing for it was quite an experience. Inspired by Tim Burton’s design style in animations like Corpse Bride, the world I intended to create was one between fantasy and reality with a dark color palette, creating a sense of fear and mystery for the audience.

Elevation
Living Room, Interactive Installation Choosing the International House at UC Berkeley for my source of inspiration, the installation turned a black box into a journey for the viewer to experience a sense of “home” and yet face diversity and “foreign.” Interactive activities include salsa dancing, reading, playing backgammon, an open stage, and simply observing and taking in the warm colors, oriental patterns and Spanish colonial style furniture.
Big Love, a Play by Charles Mee A play about love, marriage, femininity and finding refuge, Big Love’s set was “more (like) an installation than a set” as the writer says. “300 wine glasses half-full of red wine” was the image from his stage directions that inspired me to incorporate wine bottles as lighting fixtures. A Bohemian rustic theme as well as a reference to the current refugee crisis in Europe drives the design. The sand pit and the subtle change in elevation creates an interesting opportunity for the actors to move around and interact with the audience.
