Pazh Public Library 2024

+ Academic

This project has been designed as my bachelor's thesis, for which I have chosen to design a districtscale public library in Mashhad with the approach to encourage social interaction among users while maintaining the isolated identity of the functions that take place in it.

+ Individual

Libraries fulfill a special function in society and are places of learning, gathering, and exploring. People often form strong emotional associations with the libraries in their lives. Libraries often provide quiet and conducive areas for studying, as well as common areas for group study and collaboration. There is a duality in the essence of the functions in a library, a duality within individual and social aspects of the activities that typically take place in it. The main objective for this project has been to dissolve the relation between these different aspects with opposing identities.

The initial step involved drawing the massing of each floor on a modular grid based on the geometry of the site.

The overall form of the massing was then enhanced by rounding its corners to give the library a more friendly and dynamic feel.

The drawn modular faces were extruded at different levels to provide additional open spaces in the form of elevated terraces, indicated in pink.

The central area of the massing was designated as the main vertical and horizontal circulation area in the library as it is shared by all floors.

The site specified for this project is located next to a busy main street in the city and is surrounded by several educational institutions towards the other end of the property.

The massing has been placed at a distance from the main street to minimize noise pollution inside the library. However, there are accessible entrances available at both ends of the

visitors.

Given the hot and dry climate of the region, the library's facade is covered with lacquered wood vertical slat cladding that regulates the entry of light and heat from sunlight to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the library while also enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the library.

Khorasan Hotel 2022

+ Academic

This project has been designed as part of the Architectural Design Studio IV, which is focused on complicated functional, structural, and facility systems in architecture.

+ Collabrative

My contributions to the project included architectural planning, modeling, and presentation.

The site specified for this project is located next to a significant city square that is commonly utilized by the general public as a plaza. The project's design was primarily inspired by the layout of the mentioned area and the streets surrounding it. The Khorasan Hotel was designed taking a formal approach to ensure that it would respond effectively to its context. Some of the challenges brought on by this approach were the development of reasonable plans with functional circulation systems and the consideration of the technical details of the structure.

We created a visual corridor by seperating the hotel's commercial arcade from the main building. This corridor connects the main street on the east side of the site to the square. The main entrance to both the commercial arcade and the hotel is located along this corridor.

The first floor features changes in the massing of both the commercial arcade and the hotel's main building. These modifications provided additional open spaces on the hotel's first floor and a roof over the entrance to the commercial arcade.

Ground Floor Massing Plan
First Floor Massing Plan

A residential tower comprising ten floors is situated above the first floor featuring a range of rooms and suites for guests. The massing of this tower has been planned around the central void in the lobby. All of the seven mentioned floors of the tower have the same typical floor massing plan.

A portion of three floors in the residential tower has been subtracted to provide additional open space for guests while also enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the hotel's residential tower. All floors of this residential tower feature rotating green terraces in alternating order.

Second to Fifth and Ninth to Eleventh Floors Massing Plan
Sixth to Eighth Floors Massing Plan

We created a visual corridor by seperating the hotel's commercial arcade from the main building in the ground F.

Fourth and Tenth Typical Floor Plan

Service Room Green Terrace 17 18

A residential tower comprising ten floors is situated above the first floor featuring a range of rooms and suites for guests. The massing of this tower has been planned around the central void in the lobby.

The hotel's residential tower has seven plans, which differ slightly in the rotation of the green terraces on each floor. As a result, only two plans are included here for brevity.

A portion of three floors in the residential tower has been subtracted to provide additional open space for guests while also enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the hotel's residential tower. All floors of this residential tower feature rotating green terraces in alternating order.

The basement floors of a hotel are crucial for its functionality. The Khorasan Hotel was designed with two basement floors, but the second basement floor plan is not included here for brevity as it only serves as a storage warehouse and guest parking.

Wave House 2021

+ Academic

This project has been designed as part of the Architectural Design Studio II, which provides an introduction to residential architecture and is mainly focused on its various spaces while considering their relationship.

+ Individual

There lies a quiet, woodsy stretch of land where the Caspian Sea brushes up against Iran. This green patch of coastal forests is where I have imagined building the conceptual ″Wave House,″ a boxy domicile that sits neatly within its environment without sacrificing creature comforts.

The Wave House is a modular dwelling solution capable of being expanded or scattered within the coastal forests along the edge of the Caspian Sea. A wooden interior reinforces the organic conceit, with cushy furniture that encourages people to lounge and stare out the enormous windows in the front and rear end of the building.

Base Placement

Two squares with 8 meter sides are placed adjacent to each other and shifted so that half of their lengths overlap.

Arc Subtraction

Both structures are subtracted with an arc-shaped geometry formally inspired by the waves of the Caspian Sea.

Massing Extrusion

The two squares are extruded to different levels to create the massing as boxes for different spaces in the domicile.

Window Openings

Two enormous window openings are introduced at the front and rear ends of the building.

Dual Module Floor Plan

The Wave House is designed in two variations to offer a more flexible and adaptable living experience.

The single module variation presents a compact and efficient design, providing an ideal solution for those seeking a cozy and affordable forest retreat.

The dual module on the other hand extends its reach to provide a larger and more versatile living space.

Mashhad House of Music 2020

+ Academic

This project has been designed as part of the Architectural Design Studio I, which is focused on practicing and learning how to accomplish goals and implement concepts in the design.

+ Individual

The interest of Iranian society in schools that promote art education has increased in recent times because, unlike Western societies, the Iranian education system does not give priority to such matters.

Mashhad House of Music has been specifically designed with an approach to encourage social interaction among its users and is imagined as a place where musicians and music enthusiasts can come together to learn, share information, exchange experiences, and showcase the art of music.

Base Placement

The entire site, measuring 18 meters wide and 30 meters long, is utilized, ensuring efficient use of space.

Horizontal Void Integration

Two horizontal voids are integrated to form an interconnected corridor on the ground floor with three entrances to various parts of the building and a central courtyard on the first floor.

Massing Extrusion

The base is vertically extruded into three floors, defining the building's fundamental form and overall height.

Vertical Void Integration

A vertical void intersecting the horizontal void from the first floor is added on the second floor, creating an additional open space.
