record nine different riders scored Grand Prix race wins in a single year in 2016 and with many significant team changes in the off-season, we can expect an even more exciting battle ahead when the 2017 MotoGP world championship series kicks

off in Losail, Qatar on the 26th of March. To have everyone fully prepared, the series provides some pre-season testing opportunities, including a visit to Sepang, Malaysia from 30-January to 1-February. continued on page 10...

The grandstands were empty at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit for the private MotoGP pre-season test held there recently. A three-day crowd of 161,533 fans was on hand, however, last November for Round 17 of the 2016 championship and they are all expected back when the series returns in the fall.

Parts Europe will this year again have high visibility in the world’s most-watched motorcycle racing series with track signage at many events and rider sponsorship of Repsol Honda veteran rider Dani Pedrosa. Additionally, many riders

in the series will feature brands sold by Parts Europe, starting with Michelin tires, plus Alpinestars, AGV and more. ■

Newly crowned 2016 World MotoGP champion Marc Marquez had an impressive shake-down of his 2017 Repsol Honda machine. He was ranked 4th fastest at the test.

When Maverick Vinales left Suzuki for Yamaha, Andrea Iannone (29) was signed to fill the vacated seat. Suzuki management was well pleased to see Iannone secure the 2nd fastest time of the test. Another newsmaker at the end of 2016 was Jorge Lorenzo who made the bold move from Yamaha to Ducati for 2017. He put in many steady laps at the test less than a half-second a lap off the fastest times. Dani Pedrosa has won 52 Grand Prix races in his long and successful racing career, but the MotoGP world crown has eluded the Parts Europe-sponsored Honda rider thus far. He hopes to fill in that missing accomplishment this year.

G

ermany was the place to be in February when the MotoTrade Show rolled into Kassel, attracting dealers from all over the country. World of Bike, a German business-to-business publication, organizes the show.

Parts Europe was on hand with a huge booth and a wide range of products, including a big selection of tools, equipment and tires. The Parts Europe team built a workshop-type setup with a lift, toolboxes, tools and necessary lubricants and chemicals.

The No-Mar tire changer attracted a number of visitors interested to see it in operation.

The Parts Europe booth’s Off-road Section featured a number of fully loaded race bikes and a range of apparel from Moose Racing and Thor.

Gear from Icon and AFX were on display for those no-frills, retro-minded customers eager for something clean, simple and stylish.

One big draw was the No-Mar tire changer, as demonstrations brought in a number of dealers eager to see how the device worked. The crowd afforded the Parts Europe sales staff the opportunity to chat with interested dealers. The booth also featured a number of motorcycles arranged into different riding and vehicle segments – Street, V-twin, Off-road, and ATV. The display highlighted the accompanying range of aftermarket products. Another popular item was the new 2017 Tire and Tool catalog (see story on page 60). German sales team lead Gunther Hildebrandt and his team spent the show meeting with existing dealers and working to win some new ones, all the time spreading the word about Parts Europe’s easy order and fast shipping. ■

Parts Europe’s booth at the Motorcycle Show in Stockholm hosted thousands of visitors for the four-day show.

fter taking part in the MP Motorcycle Exhibition in Helsinki, Parts Europe reports that interest in motorcycles, motocross, enduro and ATVs is running strong in Finland – the fair saw nearly 60,000 visitors come through in three days. Parts Europe saw twice as many visitors this year as it did at last year’s show. The company’s booth featured displays for AFX, Drag Specialties, Icon, Moose Racing and Moose Utility Division, and Thor, in addition to 30 other vendors. All had plenty of products on hand for showgoers to check out.

ith mobile devices like smartphones and tablets now in such common use, Parts Europe has created a new app that makes it easier for consumers to search for product information, pricing info, availability, and then get linked to their nearest dealers. Once the app is installed, all a user has to do is type in any Parts Europe part number. The Parts Europe booth featured enough space to really show off the company’s big line of brands and products, and had plenty of catalogs on hand for dealers to take back to their shops.

The crew on the ground in Coventry included, from left: Sales team lead Andrew Harley; Sales representative Stuart Procter; Sales agent and Icon specialist Nadia Bhatti; Sales representatives Mike Brunsdon, Chris White and Graeme Fox; and UK country sales manager John Taylforth (below.)

In just three days, the team collected a number of dealer account leads, and visited with existing and current dealers. That’s because the Kemea Yamaha triple-threat team of Benoit Paturel, Brent Von doninck and new addition, Alvin Östlund, is charging into the season with their eyes on the prize and Moose Racing’s storied racewear on their backs. This is the gear that Paturel wore as he fought his way to a third place finish in the MX2 class of the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship. It’s the gear that riders all over the world — professional and amateur — count on when the competition is at a fever pitch. This trio of talented riders is looking to shake things up for 2017 in the MX2 class, and they’re doing so with solid racing credentials, individual records that point to a promising season of racing. Managed by Hans Corvers, and guided by Belgian star Marnicq Bervoets, the Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team is recognized for its efforts in developing young talent, and for getting the most out the Yamaha YZ250F. The team was introduced earlier this year during a special event at the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP headquarters in Gerno di Lesmo, Italy. As a favorite for the 2017 MX2 title, the 22-yearold Paturel made his MX2 FIM Motocross World Championship debut in 2012, and has been with Kemea Yamaha since 2014. He will finish out his MX2 career this year flying the team’s colors.

Benoit Paturel is gunning for the big win in the MX2 class for 2017.

The Triple Threat – Kemea Yamaha Official Motocross MX2 Team.

A native of Lyons, France, Paturel has show steady progress in the class and in 2016 he landed three podium finishes before earning the bronze medal after a strong performance during the GP of USA at Southern California’s famous Glen Helen Raceway. “I don’t have any words for this,” Paturel said at the time. “I’m so stoked with this third position. The goal at the start of the season was top five and I think finishing third is really awesome.” That talent was also apparent when Paturel served as a member of the Team France in its decisive win at the Motocross of Nations in Maggiora, Italy in 2016. Paturel had been brought in to replace injured Dylan Ferrandis. Paturel has already shown good promise in preseason racing with second place finishes at the International Italian Championship in January and at the International French Championship in February. Again carrying the Kemea Yamaha banner — and that Moose Racing logo — is 21-year-old Brent Van doninck, the young Belgian looking to advance in his third year in the MX2 class. doninck repeatedly stepped back up to the starting gate in an admirable chase for points. “I’m happy to finish the season some what in a positive way,” he said after the conclusion of the GP of USA at Glen Helen. “It started well, but after my injury I never got 100 percent again.” He added that his main goal over the winter was to train hard and get fit and ready to take on 2017. Originally brought onto the Kemea Yamaha Official MX team as a contender for the EMX250 competition, Van doninck was elevated to the MX2 class in 2015 after some impressive pre-season riding aboard a factory-motor-powered YZ250F. That potential was realized in 2015 when he landed on the third step of the podium at the TT Circuit in Assen, the Netherlands. As the newcomer to the team, Östlund is in his second year of MX2 racing after moving across from the Wilvo Standing Construct Yamaha team. The 19-year-old from Hudiksvall, Sweden carries an impressive record from his rise through the ranks of racing.

The RFX rotors are laser cut from high-grade quality stainless steel, meaning they’re tough enough to stand up to some pretty heavy usage and provide tight, consistent braking. The rotors are heat treated to withstand warping and not cause excess pad wear. A special color-coded surface treatment allows your customers to match the rotor to their favorite OEM color. These rotors will help brake pads stay clean, too, thanks to a unique wave design. That wave design also combines with precision-cut vented holes to help rapidly dissipate heat for no-fade braking. Moose Racing recommends that its M1, Qualifier and XCR brake pads be used with the RFX rotors. ■

The Swedish prodigy won the Swedish National Championship in 2015, and finished second overall in the EMX125 European Championship in 2014. He also finished third in the Junior World Championship. Östlund made his MX2 debut in 2016 and had two top ten finishes, one at the GP of Europe in the Netherlands and again at the GP of Thailand. He ended up 13th overall in his rookie season. At the pre-season International Italian Championship in January, Östlund battled it out for a third place finish behind teammate Paturel.

NEW ROTORS AND SPROCKETS

With a lineup like this, it’s no wonder Moose Racing backs the Kemea Yamaha Official Motocross Team. For more than 30 years, the brand has lived and breathed off-road racing competition, building high-quality parts, accessories and apparel that riders can count on, again and again. Those Kemea riders — Paturel, Van doninck and Östlund — put their faith in that gear every time the gate drops because they know it will perform on demand.

New Products for 2017

RFX rotors will stand up to mile after mile of heavy-duty off-road braking.

Moose Racing’s hard parts are no different than that great racewear being worn by the Kemea Yamaha riders when it comes to quality and performance. These are products built to exacting standards by product development professionals who know the off-road market backwards and forwards. For instance, the company’s new dual sprockets and RFX rotors will out-perform the stock components on multiple levels. Those new sprockets are specially designed to outlast standard aluminum rear sprockets, and are much lighter than steel sprockets. The inner ring is made from 7075 T6 aluminum, while the outer ring is built from heavy-duty steel. Because riding off-road is inherently dirty, the sprockets feature self-cleaning mud grooves between each tooth to prevent dirt build-up. The inner rings are anodized in the following colors — black, blue, green, orange, red, and silver.

ealers would be wise to keep an eye on that Moose Utility Division catalog. Forget about it for a minute and they’re liable to miss the neverending addition of new products and updated fitments that keeps that catalog dynamic, and growing, throughout the year. For 2017, the product development team at Moose Utility Division is jumping right into with a new flatbed ATV cart, camouflage ATV seat covers, and expanded applications for its popular line of complete front and rear axles for ATVs and UTVs. Let’s start with that new flatbed ATV cart, which is just what’s needed when hauling or moving heavy or bulky items. Designed to be towed behind an ATV, the cart features an 86cm x 122cm expanded metal deck with a 16 gauge steel frame. This beefy cart has a 453 kg load capacity, making it an excellent workhorse on a farm or ranch, or just for moving things around. Your customers can easily dump their payload by removing one cotter pin and tilting up the deck. There are also stake pockets all the way around the bed so your customers can add side panels if they like. The cart rolls on 46cm ATV wheels affixed to a 2.5cm steel axle. A black powder coat finish helps protect against rust. The cart comes complete with a hitch pin. When it’s time for your customers to upgrade the seats on their ATVs, point them toward Moose Utility Division’s new camouflage OEM replacement style seat covers. The covers are made from heavy-duty marine-grade vinyl that is UV-protected to give it plenty of protection from the

harsh rays of the sun. The covers are also double-stitched so they’ll stand up to some hard use. The seats are made in the USA using Hidden Creek Autumn camouflage pattern material. There are fitments for vehicles from Arctic Cat, Can-Am, Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki, and Yamaha. Moose Utility Division introduced its line of ATV and UTV complete front and rear axle assemblies in 2016 and they were an immediate hit. Now the company has expanded applications to include more fitments for Polaris and Yamaha vehicles. These are high quality axles built from quality components with high-level engineering. There are also fitments for four wheelers from Arctic Cat, CanAm, Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki. These axles are built to perform hour upon hour without fail. In building the axles Moose Utility Division started out with a 4340 chrome-moly steel axle bar that comes equipped with fully assembled outboard and inboard joints. The team at Moose Utility made sure that all the internal components are precision ground and assembled using high-temperature, high load-bearing 3 percent moly grease to ensure maximum internal lubrication. Each axle features neoprene boots that are manufactured to exacting specifications to provide superior protection from all the dirt, gunk and debris that comes along with riding off-road day after day. The axles also feature low profile stainless steel clamps. ■

he made-for-TV chopper drama that flooded American television in the early 2000s wasn’t high art, but it did shine a bright light on the virtues and value of blue-collar craftsmanship.

Today the company is well known for its seats, pegs, bars, risers and related accessories for various model HarleyDavidsons, especially the Motor Company’s entry-level XL bikes.

Welding and metal fabrication are noble trades, but few members of the Millennial generation have the confidence or the experience to practice these crafts on their personal motorcycles.

Take a look at Drag Specialties FatBook and then consult with this copy. You’ll find some of the top choices and best sellers in Biltwell’s Sportster parts and accessories arsenal. ■

Harley-Davidson’s Forty-Eight model was an instant success when it was released, but the seat on this popular model was too couch-like to match the rest of the bike’s stripped-down style. Biltwell’s Sporty-8 seat cuts the clutter to provide first-class seating for the economy class home customizer.

In 2016, the Hooligan dirt track movement gained steam with Sportster riders in America. Biltwell’s Moto bar captured a big chunk of market share when these track-bound builder/ riders made the switch.

LED LIGHTING

Lighting Done Right

Expanded Fitments for Unique LED Lights

With one of J.W. Speakers headlight adapter kit, your customers can install one of the company’s breakthrough 8790 LED lights on any number of metric bike models.

T

here are LED headlights and then there is J.W. Speaker’s 8790 Adaptive beam headlight. One is simply an ultra-bright front light, while the 8790 is a genre-bending piece of technology that will change your customer’s perception of what it’s like to ride at night.

The 8790 has already achieved critical acclaim in the V-twin market where it is easily installed into a standard headlight bucket. Now, J.W. Speaker has come up with a method to retrofit its LED headlight onto more than a thousand different makes and models of metric bikes, including those from BMW, Ducati, Moto Guzzi and Triumph.

Backed by J.W. Speaker’s decades of experience with high-end LED lighting, the 8790 Adaptive gives riders the ability to light up the dark areas of corners while riding through a bend. The high-tech 18cm LED light features embedded sensors that work to calculate banking angles while cornering. In real time, those sensors adjust and direct precise beam patterns to areas of the road that would otherwise be dark.

There has always been a problem retrofitting LED lights into certain headlight buckets because the heat sinks on the back of the lights make them too deep. This has been an issue regardless of headlight diameter or brand. J.W. Speaker now solves this problem with its headlight adapter kits.

A patent-pending optical design provides an impressive beam pattern and a one-of-a-kind look. It’s almost as if the light from the headlight is bending through the turns, seeking out dark areas that might hold unwanted surprises. The result is an increased level of comfort and confidence for the riders and any potential passengers. The 8790 Adaptive beam headlight is designed to be a complete OEM plug-and-play replacement that is guaranteed to throw some serious light on your customer’s ride. With LED lighting, visibility is the name of the game, and the 8790 will not only project light further down the road, it will make riders highly visible to oncoming traffic.

The kits include everything necessary to get that 8790 Adaptive light installed so your customers spend less time setting up and more time riding and enjoying the light’s unique benefits. It comes with nearly all the hardware, wiring harnesses and tools (except for a screwdriver) required to get the job done. There’s even a microfiber cloth on which the LED light can be placed to avoid scratching the lens. J.W. Speaker offers 18 different kits to cover a variety of OEMs. They come in the following finishes, depending on the motorcycle — chrome, raw aluminum and black. ■

Pushing the Limit

FMF’s Long History of Innovation

I

f you’ve been involved in powersports for any length of time, and in any capacity, be it as a competitor, dealership personnel or weekend enthusiast, you’re likely aware of the long tenure of FMF Racing

For more than four decades, FMF has been a standout performer in the exhaust segment through a strong combination of initiative and innovation. Let’s take a historical look into the Flying Machine Factory and see what has contributed to the longevity of the company. Circa 1973 — Founder Don Emler’s first initiatives: Improve two-stroke race performance by building a better pipe than OE for riders in the Southern California, USA race scene.

er riders, FMF has fitments for all the two-stroke Japanese mini-racer machines. 1995 – FMF’s catalog has ISDE quiet silencers, numerous two-stroke ATV applications, and its first four-stroke mufflers, the Gold Series megaphones. 1996 –Truly competitive production four-stroke machines are just emerging, but there are a number of two- and four-wheel thumpers that are just plain fun. FMF offers an ISDE spark-arrested muffler version for many of these machines featuring power/sound tune-ability. While box vans were the standard trackside setup even for the factories, FMF now makes event appearances in

Don Emler, the man who started it all.

1994 – Don Emler’s Flying Machine Factory at this point in business 20 years, offers two-stroke pipes and silencers for Japanese brands, Husqvarna and KTM for a worldwide audience. The company shows considerable innovation with its original Gold Series pipes and Powercore silencers, as well as its select Gold Series Rev and Tork versions. FMF also is working to keep racers’ engines flowing and performing at the highest level. They offer O-ring spring kits, silencer packing, higher quality replacement reeds and some branded apparel. However, exhaust becomes the main focus. For the young-

a support capacity with an innovative tractor-trailer rig. 1997 — Four strokes beginning to come into their own; FMF innovates, rebrands and promotes its four-stroke offerings with Megamax — tunable, race-inspired reverse cone technology, and the tunable Performax. The company starts to use alternative materials, components and production processes more suited for enduro and dual-sport exhaust. 1998 to 1999 — FMF releases Powercore 2 and Turbinecore 2 silencers for the newest competition machines. The aerodynamic silencers feature increased packing volume, different canisters, front and rear end caps with

Introduces innovative new FMF four-stroke products, the Powercore IV2 mufflers and the Powerbomb — a sound-dampening, yet power-enhancing front pipe for four-strokes.

2008 to 2010 — FMF’s Resonance Chamber Technology makes its way into limited production with the Factory 4.1 for select machines. The industry sees the two-stroke revival for off-road/enduro and the beginnings of Extreme Enduro racing. In response, FMF launches the Q Stealth and makes sure the FMF Gnarly for all the new and old two-strokes are frequently produced and available.

2000 to 2002 – SST pipe and silencers for two-strokes are introduced, named 2000 Product of the Year by Dirt Rider magazine. Powercore IV renamed to the more fitting Powercore 4 with serious revisions for performance, tuning and durability. Q mufflers and silencers are born

progressive fit, look, and sound. The two-stroke Gold series Burly (later renamed Gnarly) pipe is introduced. Today, the FMF Gnarly remains wildly popular.

S H O W C A S E

FMF launches a new big initiative; the use of titanium for performance motorcycle and ATV mufflers and complete systems. The FMF Titanium 4 mufflers and systems are precursors to today’s even more innovative and highly developed Factory 4.1RCT products. In keeping with this titanium love affair, on the two-stroke side FMF introduces the Titanium 2 silencers. Still viable and available today for select applications, these in turn helped inspire FMF’s newest and popular anodized blue Ti Powercore 2.1 silencers. 2004-2005 — FMF focuses on centralizing mass. The Titanium 4 exhausts becomes Titanium 4SL, later the first FMF ‘Factory 4’ products. Additional innovations are made for overall performance increases with sound reduction, attention to quiet inserts, resonance chambers, packing density and volume. FMF introduces premium and multi-layer muffler packing. FMF Q series continues to evolve with these innovations. The company begins to closely pay attention to sound standards for motorbikes and quads in EU countries. For a limited time they produce specific Titanium 4 EU racing exhausts. 2006 — The year of the titanium Megabomb header. 2007 — FMF promotes “build a system.” Off-road riders wanting quiet, better power, less weight combine a Q4 and Powerbomb or Megabomb header. ATV riders on a budget combine Powercore 4 and stainless Powerbomb. For motocross/Supercross competitor, there is the Factory 4 slip-on and the Ti Megabomb.

2011 to present — Factory 4.1 RCT exhausts available across many brands, displacements and model years via full systems or slip-ons. Precision seam-welded titanium canister bodies save weight, increase ergonomics, further centralize mass, increase muffler-packing capacity and improve production efficiency. The Hex shape of Factory 4.1 RCT titanium leads to further initiative using aluminum, to keep products affordable for all. FMF also uses elements of these innovations on Powercore 4 and Q4 products. The 2.1 series of silencers are now available for the burgeoning two-stroke market. Stainless steel Megabombs offer high performance that’s affordable and durable, and further enhances the “build a system” approach for four-stroke and two-stroke segments in motorcycles and ATVs. ■

»» Forty four-years strong and with a strong focus on European

supply via Parts Europe and other importers, FMF still has plenty of new ideas and innovative products coming our way. We can’t wait to add them to the timeline. Talk with your Parts Europe sales rep about FMF’s long history of innovation and broad range of products, and get more information at www.fmfracing.com.

The Q4 slip-on muffler and the Megabomb header are a great onetwo combination for off-road riders looking for lightweight, improved and quieter power. FMF’s Gnarly pipe is a popular choice, and a regular contender, in the off-road/ enduro and Extreme Enduro racing scenes.

A removable SatinCore liner and a full suite of D3O impact protectors round out the perks. Color choices include hiviz, red, blue, green, and stealth. The matching Konflict glove has an Ax Suede and neoprene backhand, seamless goatskin palm overlays and carbon-fiber-reinforced TPU knuckles. Swap out the hi-viz for white, and you have the same color options as the Konflict jacket. The design on the Icon 1000 Luckytime jersey makes a bold statement. Ax Suede and a rubber chest logo enhance the poly mesh jersey. Those who need a little more protection can opt for the Luckytime gloves, which have a Battlehide palm and D3O knuckle insert. The Icon 1000 Griddle jersey is less moto and more American football, with short sleeves and a poly chassis. The screen-printed graphics leave no doubt that you are playing for Team Icon. ■

The Mesh collection is loaded with more than 50 direct-replacement components for Dyna, Softail, Sportster and Touring models, all available through Parts Europe. Included in the collection are bolt-on derby, points and master cylinder covers for XL, Twin Cam and Milwaukee Eight platforms, as well as caliper covers for FX and FL models. Mesh dash inserts, fuel doors, saddlebag hinge covers and fairing vent accents are a handful of highlighted offerings for Bagger models.

Sportsters also receive a front pulley cover that provides a mechanized, semi-exposed look. Multi-fit components include Mesh gas caps with matching LED fuel and battery voltage gauges available for tanks equipped with screw-in caps and illuminated fuel gauges. Rounding out the collection’s featured products are replacement bezels for bullet and flat-style turn signals. “We dialed in the Mesh design to be a hybrid of mechanical and industrial aesthetics,” said Matt Leisch, director of product management. “This is one of the largest collections we’ve ever rolled out. The rugged style combined with ease of installation and customization will appeal not only to core Kuryakyn customers, but also the emerging group of riders and builders who want that raw, edgy look for their bikes.”

The entire series features multi-piece construction. Most parts integrate a three-piece design pairing chrome or satin black aluminum outer frames with a satin black aluminum baseplate that’s visible through satin black or chrome stainless steel mesh panels. The Mesh turn signal bezels, front pulley cover and fairing vent accents eliminate the use of a baseplate. Exposed socket-head cap screws add to the rugged appearance and safely secure the components in place. The multi-piece designs can be easily

our customers who ride sportbikes are looking for the newest and most high tech designs and products to go with their machine. AFX offers a wide variety of high-quality helmets with designs from classic open face to their newest AFX105 Thunderchief full-face racing helmet, ideal for your sportbike customers. The Thunderchief employs an aerodynamic shell design constructed using advanced fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) for weight

You can tell your customers they’ll stay cooler on hot days because the Thunderchief has nine points of ventilation with chin, side, forehead, top and rear vents. That works out to three intake vents and six exhaust vents. This helmet model meets or exceeds both ECE 22.05 and DOT FMVSS-218 motorcycle helmet safety standards. The retention system is a race approved double D-ring. There are more selling points, like all AFX helmet liners and cheek pads are made with a hypoallergenic and anti-microbial nylon, most of which are removable and washable and provide ample ear cavity space for most speaker systems. This is also a very

The face shield uses a flush-fit, lock down, side-coverless shield that is optically correct, compound-curved, scratchresistant and protects against UV-rays. Changing face shields is also quick and easy thanks to the Thunderchief’s quick-release shield ratchet system. For bright sunny days there is also an Inner Sun Shield that flips down with an easy-to-use side actuation lever, so there is no need for your customers to stuff sunglasses inside their helmets.

Another great feature is the customizable fit. The size of this helmet is based on a combination of four factors — outer shell size, inner EPS thickness, comfort liner thickness and cheek pad thickness. Your customers can tailor the fit of the helmet by replacing the existing cheek pads with thinner cheek pads (for a looser fit) or thicker cheek pads (for a tighter fit.) The fit can also be customized by replacing your customers’ existing comfort liner with a thinner comfort liner (for a looser fit) or thicker comfort liner (for a tighter fit.) The Thunderchief is available in sizes XS-XXL. ■

The Tool Tour

Standout Products and Quality Companies

T

he new Tire and Tool catalog from Parts Europe has everything you need to build or repair a motorcycle. Among the tools available are top sellers from high-quality brands Stahlwille, Knipex, KUKKO and Wera. (See story on the new catalog on page 60.)

Sensotork 701

Claw Lifter

Back in 1862, Stahlwille got its start as a manufacturer of pokers and fire tongs. Stahlwille has come a long way since then, with a specialty in intelligent torqueing technology and tool systems, high-grade tightening tools and bespoke solutions for tool storage. The company’s headquarters are now in Wuppertal, Germany, with stateof-the-art production plants throughout the country. One of the products that best demonstrates Stahlwille’s prowess is the Sensotork 701. The digital torque wrench enables safe application of particularly low torques in confined spaces, making it ideal for tightening fasteners for carbon and aluminum components. The Sensotork 701 has a torque range from 1-20 Nm, with an accuracy of +/-4 percent. Among the latest Stahlwille products is the Manoskop 730 Quick, a mechanical torque wrench with a simplified operating concept. Based on the Manoskop 730, the Quick version has a versatile range of 6-650 Nm, three drive formats for insert tools and a more ergonomic handle. The Manoskop 730 Quick has an optimized slider for faster setting of the target torque, a thumb slide and additional markings on the twin Vernier scale to prevent misreading.

it easier to retrieve parts from confined spaces, and the ergonomic handle makes it a comfortable tool to use. Safe and convenient storage is nearly as important as the tools themselves, and Parts Europe carries Stahlwille Tool Trolleys. Plenty of storage space, maximum mobility and optimized occupational safety are the hallmarks of the Tool Trolleys. Each is built on a sturdy base with fully extendable, easily removable drawers, which can be fitted with Stahlwille’s tool inlays for easy organization.

The Knipex MultiCrimp Crimping Pliers have a quickchange magazine, so it can be used for most common crimping applications. The crimping dies are changed easily without the need of an additional tool, and the dies are securely stored in a round magazine. The MultiCrimp pliers get the same results as a fixed crimping die, thanks

to precision dies and an integral lock that keeps the selected die firmly in place. Parts Europe also carries crimp assortments for more specific needs.

Two-Jaw Puller

It has been almost a century since KUKKO got its start in the German tool industry. The manufacturer of extractor tools, based in Hilden, has been an owner-run family company for four generations. Since their inception, KUKKO has specialized in the development and manufacturing of extractor tools for the non-destructive dismounting of gears, bearings, ball bearings and similar components. KUKKO’s universal two-jaw puller with quick-adjusting jaws saves space, has infinite adjustment on the crossbeam and has optional jaw extensions for a further reach. A three-jaw puller is also available. Other notable KUKKO tools include internal extractors for inner bearings, bearing outer rings and bushings. The two-shell design with an extra large grasp ensures safe extraction, while an internal safety stop protects against excess tension and overloading. Parts Europe also carries KUKKO slide hammers that pair with the bearing pullers.

2-Arm Bearing Puller “COBRA” with Seperating Claw and Side Clamp

The people behind Wera say that they make screwdriving tools for “Tool Rebels.” Always eager to continue pushing designs and ideas, Wera produces some of the most unconventional screwdriving tools on the market. The Zyklop Speed Ratchet is one of Wera’s most innovative tools. The goal of the ratchet was to enable simpler, quicker use. The Zyklop has a flywheel design that ensures high working speeds, and it combines the advantages of five types of ratchets into a single tool. As a bonus, it can also be used as a screwdriver.

Speed Ratchet

The Joker is an open-ended ratcheting combination wrench that Wera designed to be a standout from the traditional design. They questioned why a wrench needed to be flipped over, why it had an offset design, and why it would inconveniently slip off. The Joker goes against all of those typical inconveniences, and it is available in both Metric and Imperial options. The Kraftform Kompakt 100 is a compact tool with 52 screwdriving tools in a surface-preserving, robust textile box. Its small size and weight offer simplified mobility. ■

ear after year it’s become a recurring theme; pro racers using Moto-Master brakes and components are winning races just about everywhere.

This year is starting off no differently. MotoMaster equipped riders finished One/Two in the Dakar, and in USA Supercross racing Ryan Dungey nailed the win at the Anaheim II with Moto-Master installed. Looking back over the 2016 season, 12 of the top 15 riders in MX2 — including the World Champion — were using Moto-Master pads and rotors.

With its Moto-Master Off-Road Rotor kits, Moto-Master has brought together everything into one package. Heading the list are the popular Flame Series rotors, available in standard and oversizes. They feature billet CNC machined and black-anodized aircraft aluminum inner rings, ultralight stainless steel floater setups and precision ground premium stainless steel outer rings. The rotors offer a performance gain of up to 50 percent over OE, along with up to a 20 percent reduction in weight. Also included are adapter brackets to relocate the stock brake caliper to the correct position for the new Flame rotor. Depending on the bike and application, the appropriate Moto-Master brake pads — from the Nitros to the Sintered Pro GPs — are also included. The entire Moto-Master off-road lineup, Flame rotors, caliper relocation adapters and the full range of brake pads has been updated to include the newest 2017 machines. It isn’t all just racing and off-road with Moto-Master, either. There’s plenty of this high-performance brake hardware available for streetbikes and popular models of scooters. ome customers come in asking for a single gasket for their dirtbike, motocross racer, ATV or UTV, while others want the full kit for a top-end job, clutch replacement or a complete engine rebuild. In all those cases you’ll find what you need with Cometic. A popular brand in the market since 1989, Cometic Gasket has that single valve-cover or exhaust pipe gasket when that is needed, or they offer those full kits when that is what the job calls for. Either way, individually or in kit form, you can be sure that every one of those Cometic gaskets will fit right and seal tight. You can be sure of that because it’ll employ the company’s Extreme Sealing Technology, a gasket and seal technology developed through years of research and proven out by just as many years of successful street and track use. Your customers won’t come up empty with Cometic Gasket, either. Applications cover most all the popular bikes, ATVs going back to the early ’80s, and UTVs right up to the newest 2017 models. Whether it’s a single gasket or one of those Top End Kits, Bottom End Kits, Clutch Kits, Magneto Kits, the Water Pump Kits or any of the others, you’ll be supplying your

customer with quality gaskets and seals, everything needed to get the job done right. To ensure that quality and superior performance across a wide range of applications, Cometic manufactures its gaskets from an equally wide range of materials, always appropriate to the job. Whether the situation calls for advanced technologies like the Multi-Layer Steel gaskets used in the Top End Kits, or it’s the Aluminum Foamette Material case gaskets, Cometic delivers it. Those Aluminum Foamette Material gaskets, incidentally, have some pretty unique features. The aluminum core here gives these gaskets the strength needed for a superior seal, and prevents the gasket from weeping or slipping out of place. These gaskets don’t stick to the engine case, either. Replacement is always quick and easy with no wasted time scraping away leftover gasket material.

Goggles and Grips Products Built for Riding

F

rom goggles to grips, a lot of engineering goes into the products available from ProGrip. The company moves beyond simple functionality to provide comfort and protection for both off-road and street riding. ProGrip draws from decades of experience. The company was founded in Italy in 1925, although the ProGrip name was first used in 1960. ProGrip knows that designing an off-road goggle is about more than simply being able to see where you are going. The company’s 3200 FL MX/Enduro Goggles are well known for their premium quality and comfort. In fact, many World Championship riders in motocross, enduro and other forms of off-road racing use the goggles.

ProGrip’s 3200 FL MX/Enduro Goggles feature 1mm thick lenses that have anti-UV, anti-scratch and anti-fog properties. This premium goggle also has triple-density foam and room to accommodate eyeglasses.

The lenses are 1mm thick and feature anti-UV, anti-scratch and anti-fog properties. ProGrip says that its patented NO FOG lens technology has received top marks in comparison tests by media outlets. A multi-layered mirrored lens gives the 3200 goggles a sleek look while cutting down on glare. Built-in tear off pins make ProGrip’s goggles an ideal choice for racers. Other perks of the goggles include a silicone-treated strap to prevent it from slipping off the helmet, hydro-repellent double-density foam and molded channels in the foam to accommodate eyeglasses. ProGrip took grip comfort one step further by introducing triple-density grips. The 788 Triple Density fluorescent offroad grips are impossible to miss with its bright color scheme. ProGrip originated the triple density design, which has a harder inner part to ensure a strong grip on the handlebar. The other two layers include one medium and one soft compound, which are designed to minimize the vibrations from the motorcycle. The result is that a rider has more comfort and longevity during a ride. The grips come in two sizes — a 22-25mm size and a long 115mm option.

The 788 Triple Density off-road grips are designed to minimize vibrations, ensure a strong grip on the handlebar and look great with any model motorcycle.

Street riders have not been forgotten, thanks to ProGrip’s 732 Road Grips. The new technology from ProGrip features a double-density compound fused into a unique grip. Like the triple-density off road grips, the road grips have a harder inner compound to avoid slipping on the handlebar. The outside of the grip is a proprietary ProGrip compound that reduces vibrations and gives a rider a firm grip on the bars. The 732 grips are also available in two sizes, including a 22-25mm size and a long 125mm size. Both the 788 and 732 grips are manufactured in Italy. ■

VOLTAGE REGULATORS

P R O D U C T

S H O W C A S E

It’s Electric

Reliability in a Voltage Regulator

M

ost motorcycle riders know the frustration of having an electrical part fail. One small part bites the dust, and you’re sidelined. When it comes to faulty electrical components, there is rarely an easy fix. And, when it comes to broken voltage regulators, there is no fix at all because the unit is sealed and has to be completely replaced. Drag Specialties aims to keep riders on the road with its branded premium USA-made voltage regulators, which are designed for reliability and longevity.

The assembly happens close to home, too — the voltage regulators are made in the USA, using domestic-made circuit boards, so it is easier for Drag Specialties to manage quality control. One of the factors that had to be considered during development of the Drag Specialties voltage regulator was heat. Heat is the worst enemy of electrical components, but it’s also an inevitable by-product of a voltage regulator’s job.

Dealers can find a number of fitments for Drag Specialties voltage regulators inside the FatBook and OldBook.

Dealers and parts counter staff will be happy to know the Drag Specialties voltage regulators come in the brand’s Premium Packaging, perfect for on-shelf display.

Drag Specialties premium voltage regulators can be used as OE replacements, but they are also a great choice for custom builders and DIY mechanics looking for a reliable and easily-installed voltage regulator to keep an old bike running or help light the spark in a new one. They provide accurately regulated voltage under all electrical loads. The voltage regulator’s small size belies the huge amount of work that went into its creation. It is the result of two years of design and development, all undertaken with the goal of creating a regulator that has outstanding performance, reliability and heat management. The attention to detail that went into the design did not stop when the final product was approved. During the assembly process, every voltage regulator undergoes three tests to ensure there are no hindrances to its reliability and performance.

A

lpinestars’ Ride Tech layers incorporate the very latest material technologies and construction techniques, and are the first thing to be put on and the last thing taken off. That said, many riders still do not realize the benefits that base layers bring to the enjoyment of motorcycling.

Base layers are a critical piece of equipment for more reasons than just offering excellent moisture-transfer management. By providing a second skin feel, thanks to the compression fit technology and tubular, seamless construction, Alpinestars tech base layers offer muchneeded support to the muscles while performance riding.

Constructed from an innovative Dryarn polypropylene microfiber, Alpinestars’ Ride Tech base layers are specially engineered to offer ultra-lightweight performance, breathability and optimized thermo-regulation for both summer and winter riding.

Not only does muscle support reduce fatigue, improve performance and all-round comfort, but it is also critical in helping reduce injuries. By helping keep muscles in a natural and stable position, Ride Tech under layers help to stop unnecessary movement of the muscle during a slide or impact. Keeping muscles in position is also important in the seconds and minutes following riding as this significantly aids oxygen flow to the muscles thus improving recovery times.

The main material offers some of the highest levels of insulation of any natural or man-made fiber, allowing Ride Tech garments to create a breathing barrier between the skin and outer garment. This not only acts to insulate the body, but transfers perspiration from the inside to the outside, ensuring an internal microclimate that keeps the skin dry as well as warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The Ride Tech one-piece under suit is a summer base layer designed for warm weather and optimized for use under performance racing leathers. Body-mapped with four-way stretch spandex zones in the chest and back, this under suit features mesh for additional breathability and cooling comfort. The mesh zones have been strategically positioned to work in conjunction with an outer suit’s front-facing surfaces. The versatile Ride Tech summer top and bottom can be used with one or two-piece leather suits or individually with road riding jackets or pants. Alpinestars also has a short sleeve version, which can be paired up with the pants for when the weather heats up.

The Ride Tech winter top and bottom offer excellent thermal performance for colder conditions. As efficient as wool for trapping air and keeping it close to the body, the Dryarn fiber brings optimized levels of insulation. As perspiration is transported immediately to the outside, a rider’s body stays drier which in turn keeps the body warmer. The Ride Tech winter base layers feature double density zones for additional coverage in the most exposed, front-facing areas of the body. Alpinestars tech layers are dermatologically tested and hypoallergenic, which helps prevent the buildup of bacteria and germs, and are resistant to abrasion and heat exposure. ■

It will help streamline the search for products, allowing dealers to serve customers better, faster and easier by offering just one catalog for all of their service needs. In addition, it is a resource for all of the equipment that dealers utilize on a regular basis in their own shops. Parts Europe encourages dealers to keep the Tire and Tool catalog handy, because the service items featured in it will not be included in other catalogs. Parts Europe has always offered a huge range of tires, tools and maintenance products, with a wide variety of premium brands so that dealers have plenty of choices. This new catalog is organized to make ordering quick and easy, with dedicated sections for things like street tires, tubes and tire accessories, cleaners and polishers.

A section for shop equipment includes many of the large pieces necessary for a dealership, including tire changers, lifts, work tables, dollies, and an incredible selection of bike stands. There is plenty of additional information to make ordering as smooth as possible. In fact, guides for model-specific products are found throughout the catalog, such as a reference chart for a clutch removal tool and clutch pullers. A section dedicated to merchandising has display stand options to enhance the look of a sales display. As with other Parts Europe catalogs, the Tire and Tool catalog has an index to easily find all products that are available from a specific brand. ■

iseco takes a strong stand behind its clutch baskets. How strong? The company offers a lifetime guarantee on the parts, adding that it’s likely the last basket your customers will ever need.

coat anodized and Teflon coated, the clutch baskets offer superb wear resistance and smooth operation when the clutch lever is released. Every new clutch basket includes components needed for assembly, such as new fasteners with pre-applied threadlocker.

That confidence stems from Wiseco’s manufacturing process. The company’s clutch baskets are forged, which makes the material so strong that notching and breakage on the tangs are extremely unlikely.

“We have racers in off-road racing like GNCC who have been using their clutch baskets for multiple seasons,” says Dave Sulecki, Powersports product manager. “These vehicles are running in some of the harshest, dirtiest conditions. They are replacing wear items, but the clutch baskets, and other forged clutch components, continue to operate smoothly and do not wear out.”

Wiseco’s clutch baskets and parts are built tough, and are designed to always perform, even under the most severe conditions.

Wiseco’s lifetime guarantee includes all clutch baskets, inner hubs and pressure plates purchased after January 1, 2009. The guarantee covers breakage and notching for the original purchaser when proof of purchase is presented directly to Wiseco Piston Inc. By standing behind its products, Wiseco is able to give dealers peace of mind to buy with confidence. ■

ccording to TecMate, lithium batteries can be as reliable as lead-acid if dealers follow two of the company’s recommendations.

The first: Test the vehicle charging system before fitting a lithium battery. Charge voltage ranging from 14 to 14.6V is ideal. A higher voltage will quickly damage a lithium battery. OptiMate’s Cranking & Alternator tester (p/n 3807-0225) is perfect for the job. The displayed result is easily understood by dealers and customers alike. The second: Sell an OptiMate Lithium charger with every lithium battery. A fully charged lithium battery delivers its cranking amps with only one-third the amp-hours of the lead-acid battery it replaced. Its higher voltage (13V to 13.6V) makes for stronger ignition and brighter lights, but at lower rpm the vehicle’s charging system does not always deliver sufficient charge.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s for a classic 1941 model or one of the newest 2017s, BDL has the full range, all of them an upgrade over stock. Every BDL clutch kit comes with large-footprint performance Kevlar friction discs. The grabbing surface is significantly increased because these discs are bonded onto durable 6061 T6 aluminum cores, and feature a continuous ring of friction material versus the OEM individual-puck style. Greater surface area, along with BDL’s deep groove patterns for efficient heat dissipation and oil circulation, makes for a more durable clutch plate. Coupled with this are tempered-steel drive plates and every clutch pack has its stack height pre-set for a trouble-free installation. BDL’s Extra Plate High Performance clutch kits include one extra friction plate and opposing steel plates for even more grabbing power. Even with that extra plate they still retain the same stack height as OEM, an important consideration with any replacement clutch. Those Extra

Cables and Chains for Off-road Use

P

roX Racing Parts specializes in high quality components for off-road motorcycles, including cables and chains that increase performance and durability.

ProX’s throttle and clutch cables are manufactured to exact OEM specifications, and each one meets or exceeds OEM quality. All cables have a pre-lubricated nylon inner sleeve for smooth operation and long life, as well as a tightly coiled inner casing for low compression. The black PVC outer jacket is designed for maximum flexibility and durability. Cables arrive with all necessary mounting hardware, and the wire ends are bird caged prior to terminal casting to provide superior pullout resistance. Every ProX throttle and clutch cable is made to the appropriate length for each application, which includes an extended range of dirtbike models.

and high wear resistance. The inner plates are specifically designed to reduce weight, resulting in a chain that is 3 percent lighter than OEM. ProX also has a lightweight, narrow X-Ring chain that utilizes a QZ-type seal for off-road, enduro, ATV and big-bore 4-stroke motocross bikes. The chain has 40 percent less friction for markedly improved durability over a standard motocross chain. All ProX chains are pre-stressed and pre-stretched and come with a clip type chain link as standard. ■

PERFORMANCE REPLACEMENT PARTS

X-Ring type chain uses a special QX-type seal offering 40% less friction and at least 150% increased durability over a standard MX chain.

Brushes are solid type and heat treated for exra strength and reduced wear.

Solid type rollers are shot-peened and hardened for superior durability. Inner plates are designed in a specific shape allowing less material to be used, which in combination with the unique lightning holes results in 3% lighter chain without compromising tensile strenght.

Chain links are heavy press fitted and do feature quad staked riveting for ultra strong connection.

Outer plates are heat treated to offer incredible tensile strenght and high wear resistance.

Pins do feature an eclusive pin treatment providing an extremely hard Chormium Carbide surface coating on the outside, leaving a softer inside to increase strenght while reducing overall chain wear. The coating offers superior protection against impact and reduces oxidation by natural elements to a minimum. GENUINE
