T

he Swiss Moto/Swiss Custom show stormed into Zurich for a motorcycle show that combined some of the best machines of the custom bike world and a dizzying display of aftermarket parts and accessories.

The custom show attracted more than 160 entries, with only 70 of the best selected for judging. The lineup of judges included VIPs from local motorcycle mechanic schools, sheet metal workers and expert auto painters. All were tasked with picking winners from a range of styles that included custom cruisers, slammed choppers, modified café racers, dirt trackers and some pristine vintage creations. Visitors enjoyed the fire-spitting “Fuel Girls,” new models from a variety of OEMs – including some good-natured competition between Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle – and a whole host of other two-wheeled excitement. ■

xcited over past success at the Zurich Swiss Moto show, Parts Europe returned this year to Switzerland to reach the more than 70,000 visitors who attend the popular moto fair.

NEWS EVENTS Parts Europe Does Poland ON THE SCENE IN WARSAW

T

hanks to a good economy, Poland is a growing market in Europe and the interest in motorcycling is strong. As such, more than 19,000 people visited the Warsaw Motoshow late last year and Parts Europe was there to greet them. The crew from Parts Europe teamed up with Polish dealer, AML Polska (www.moto-outlet.pl), and built a booth with a strong focus on Icon apparel and helmets. There has been strong interest in the Icon brand as it looks completely different than most of the other motorcycle gear available in Poland.

Icon’s unique lineup of helmet design and riding apparel was a big draw at the Warsaw show.

Icon’s unique design attracted a lot of attention, and showgoers crowded into the area showing Icon’s women’s line throughout the show. Many female visitors were especially interested in the new Shaguar helmet. Parts Europe reps also received a lot of positive feedback from motorcycle riders already using Icon products. Most of them had been converted into real Icon enthusiasts and they were curious to find out the details and features of the company’s new products. ■

omplete motorcycles – this is what enthusiasts are really looking for. A headlight on a shelf, an exhaust on a rack or a seat on a wall may look cool, but when they’re mounted on a motorcycle it is a completely different story.

Parts Europe’s online-shop features a fitment search that makes it easy to find the best products to customize a stock motorcycle and turn it into a unique beauty. Dealers who prefer personal advisory service can call up and talk to a sales rep or sales agent in person.

When it comes to successfully selling motorcycles and aftermarket parts, there are big benefits to having a demo bike on hand that’s been outfitted with products such as LED lighting, an upgraded exhaust, a new seat and new hand and foot controls. Parts Europe and Drag Specialties dealers confirm that having customized bikes on their showroom floor not only attracts attention, but also helps with the sales process.

The following pictures show some examples of customized motorcycles that dealers built to display at various shows and motorcycle fairs. This is a great way to attract the attention of customers in the local market, and advertise a dealership’s products and services.

HELMETS Start at the top, with a new helmet. The Thor Verge helmets, always popular, are now available in more colors than ever and with even more graphic options. Light, comfortable and well ventilated, they’re rider favorites. And now offered in all those new colors and looks and loaded with features like the removable and washable Silvercool™ liners and reinforced chin bars, the Verge is an eye-catcher. But don’t count out the Thor Sector. A new addition to the lineup this year, great looking and feature-packed, the Sectors are available in a nice range of styles and colors, too. And at a price that’s budget friendly. Show those gear-shopping riders the Sectors, there’s a lot to like. Thor’s offering the Sector in three distinct styles, the Level, Ricochet and Covert, and with injection-molded polycarbonate/ ABS shells and dual-density EPS liners providing

progressive impact absorption they’re all DOT/ECE 22.05 approved. That’s quality at a budget-friendly price. There’s also a hi-flow mouth vent with a filter to prevent roost from entering, there’s a flexible rubber nose piece to further deflect roost, there’s a fully adjustable visor providing plenty of coverage and an extensive venting system with internal air passages for maximum cooling. Sizes run from X-Small to XX-Large and the Sector Level’s available with matte-blue/red, matte-blue/lime, matte navy/ yellow, matte-black/white and matte-black/gray color combos. GOGGLES Take a look at Thor’s goggles for 2017 as well. Anyone interested in a new helmet will want to know about some new goggles to go with it. Thor has plenty to offer, especially, the all-new Combat. The Combat’s frame, available in eight colors, provides a super-wide field of vision through its anti-fog and scratch-resistant polycarbonate lens. And the lining is a comfortably plush, single layer 12mm foam. The Combat is also available in a Sand model with six color choices, lots of highdensity foam where it’s needed to keep out small particles and there’s a smoke lens for added UV protection. And all this checks out at an extremely affordable price point. Additionally, the Combat utilizes the same lens shape as Thor’s Sniper and Conquer goggles which allows for universal lenses and tear-offs throughout the line. The Combat goggle, one of the best values in the industry, deserves a close look.

GLOVES Off-road riders and racers go through lots of gloves and Thor has all the tough, long-lasting replacements they need. This year it’s one of the biggest and best lines ever, no fewer than seven different glove-styles in a variety of new colorand-graphic choices. And there’s a lot here that’s brand-new, gloves like the Invert, Draft, Rebound and Defend. With the Invert, Thor’s turned a motocross glove inside out. Literally. And those inverted seams, once inside the glove and now sitting on the outside, make for an unbelievably

The new Rebound has been built from the ground up to balance super-rugged coverage with comfortable flexibility and the Defend, a glove just about as tough as they come, has a leather palm and reinforced TPR coverage. Along with all this there are still those Thor favorites, the Void, Flow and Spectrum, and this season they’re all back with brand-new looks and new colorway choices.

The Fuse and Fuse Air, fresh designs from the ground up, set a new standard for motocross gear. Take a good look at the redesigned Pulse and Pulse Air kits, too. For this season lots of excess material has been eliminated for a more refined fit and the pants have more stretch panels in the seat and legs along with adjustable cinches on the hips. The Pulse jerseys now have four-way stretch collars and set-in sleeves, the Pulse pant has that pre-curved shape for maximum comfort along with full-grain leather knee panels, a mesh liner, interior hip pockets and adjustable side cinches and closures. Do-it-Yourself Parts for Sportsters

T

he made-for-TV chopper drama that flooded American television in the early 2000s wasn’t high art, but it did shine a bright light on the virtues and value of blue-collar craftsmanship.

Today the company is well known for its seats, pegs, bars, risers and related accessories for various model HarleyDavidsons, especially the Motor Company’s entry-level XL bikes.

Welding and metal fabrication are noble trades, but few members of the Millennial generation have the confidence or the experience to practice these crafts on their personal motorcycles.

Take a look at Drag Specialties FatBook and then consult with this copy. You’ll find some of the top choices and best sellers in Biltwell’s Sportster parts and accessories arsenal. ■

Years ago Biltwell saw the need for a line of classically styled, affordably priced bolt-ons for modern home-builders and customizers, and pursued this niche with a vengeance.

Biltwell Café seat fits 1986-2003 Sportsters and is available in two cover styles — hand-stitched checkerboard or horizontal tuck-and-roll.

Like every Biltwell bolt-on seat, the company’s HB model for 2004-2006 and 2010-up Sportsters features a hand-stitched heavy-duty vinyl cover, a rugged molded ABS pan and comfortable molded polyurethane foam padding.

Biltwell’s Keystone handlebar and Slimline risers are practically the Official Cockpit of Sportster Nation, and for good reasons; the look is tough, the ergonomics are comfortable and installation is drama-free.

Harley-Davidson’s Forty-Eight model was an instant success when it was released, but the seat on this popular model was too couch-like to match the rest of the bike’s stripped-down style. Biltwell’s Sporty-8 seat cuts the clutter to provide first-class seating for the economy class home customizer.

In 2016, the Hooligan dirt track movement gained steam with Sportster riders in America. Biltwell’s Moto bar captured a big chunk of market share when these track-bound builder/ riders made the switch.

This Sportster belongs to Biltwell co-founder Harold McGruther, and exemplifies the modern movement toward clean and lean. Biltwell bits on display include a Café seat, Rocker foot pegs, Tracker XL handlebars, Thunder riser, Bullet taillight, Utility mirrors, and Kung Fu grips.

Investment-cast stainless steel platforms and adjustable 4130 chromoly clevises are tech highlights on Biltwell’s popular Mushman peg. The retro moto look is particularly appropriate on hooligan style street trackers.

The illusive less-is-more aesthetic shines bright on Victor Offut’s garagebuilt Sportster. Biltwell’s customer service manager salvaged this daily rider with little more than quality bolt-ons and a lot of hard work.

Norman pegs feature rugged injection-molded PVC pegs mounted on an aluminum core that’s bolted to an adjustable clevis.

Metric Bikes Unite! New Headlight Adapter Kits

T

here’s no doubt that J.W. Speaker’s 8790 Adaptive beam LED headlight will change your customers’ perception of what it’s like to ride a motorcycle at night.

Now, J.W. Speaker has a system to retrofit that LED light onto more than a thousand different makes and models of metric bikes, including many of the popular bikes from BMW, Ducati, Moto Guzzi and Triumph.

Backed by J.W. Speaker’s decades of experience with high-end LED lighting, the 8790 Adaptive gives riders the ability to light up the dark areas of corners while riding through a bend. The high-tech 18cm LED light features embedded sensors that work to calculate banking angles while cornering. In real time, those sensors adjust and direct precise beam patterns to areas of the road that would otherwise be dark.

The company’s lineup of adapter kits will allow those Bonneville and Monster riders the chance to enjoy the increased level of comfort and confidence that many Harley-Davidson riders now count on. Not only does that 8790 technology seemingly bend lighting through turns, it also projects light further down the road, making those riders that much more visible to surrounding traffic.

However, up until now, the 8790’s high-tech features have only been available to V-twin customers, where that plugand-play ability to light up dark corners of the road have been met with much acclaim.

J.W. Speaker partnered with Motodemic, a custom motorcycle parts and accessory shop in California, USA, to develop the adapters because of the inherent problem of retrofitting LED lights into certain headlight buckets. The heat sinks on the back of the lights make them too deep to properly fit. This has been an issue regardless of headlight diameter or brand, and now J.W. Speaker has solved this problem with its headlight adapter kits.

The adapter kits come in a variety of configurations, allowing the 8790 headlight to be installed on more than a thousand different makes and models.

The kits include everything necessary to get that 8790 Adaptive light installed so your customers spend less time setting up and more time riding and enjoying the light’s unique benefits. It comes with nearly all the hardware, wiring harnesses and tools (except for a screwdriver) required to get the job done. There’s even a microfiber cloth on which the LED light can be placed to avoid scratching the lens. J.W. Speaker offers 18 different kits to cover a variety of OEMs. They come in the following finishes, depending on the motorcycle — chrome, raw aluminum and black. ■ Now your metric bike customers can enjoy the unique features of J.W. Speaker’s 8790 Adaptive beam LED headlight.

most interesting game of musical chairs was played this past winter between the Ducati, Suzuki and Yamaha MotoGP teams. Knowing that 5-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo’s contract at Yamaha was expiring, Ducati made the first move by firing Andrea Iannone to make room for Lorenzo. Yamaha then convinced Maverick Viñales, the rising young star at Suzuki, to replace Lorenzo. After exploring many options, Suzuki then decided that Iannone was the best available rider to replace Viñales and signed the Italian rider to complete the three-rider swap.

Yamaha appears to have made the best of the off-season moves with Viñales winning two of the three races in the books at press time. A crash, however, at the USA round in Austin, Texas cost him valuable points and his Movistar Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi moved into the series point lead with three podium finishes. Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez had problems in the first two races, then kept his unbeaten streak going at Austin with an impressive win there for his Repsol Honda team. He is currently ranked 3rd in point standings. continued on page 40...

FMF’s Long History of Innovation

I

f you’ve been involved in powersports for any length of time, and in any capacity, be it as a competitor, dealership personnel or weekend enthusiast, you’re likely aware of the long tenure of FMF Racing

For more than four decades, FMF has been a standout performer in the exhaust segment through a strong combination of initiative and innovation. Let’s take a historical look into the Flying Machine Factory and see what has contributed to the longevity of the company. Circa 1973 — Founder Don Emler’s first initiatives: Improve two-stroke race performance by building a better pipe than OE for riders in the Southern California, USA race scene.

er riders, FMF has fitments for all the two-stroke Japanese mini-racer machines. 1995 – FMF’s catalog has ISDE quiet silencers, numerous two-stroke ATV applications, and its first four-stroke mufflers, the Gold Series megaphones. 1996 –Truly competitive production four-stroke machines are just emerging, but there are a number of two- and four-wheel thumpers that are just plain fun. FMF offers an ISDE spark-arrested muffler version for many of these machines featuring power/sound tune-ability. While box vans were the standard trackside setup even for the factories, FMF now makes event appearances in

Don Emler, the man who started it all.

1994 – Don Emler’s Flying Machine Factory at this point in business 20 years, offers two-stroke pipes and silencers for Japanese brands, Husqvarna and KTM for a worldwide audience. The company shows considerable innovation with its original Gold Series pipes and Powercore silencers, as well as its select Gold Series Rev and Tork versions. FMF also is working to keep racers’ engines flowing and performing at the highest level. They offer O-ring spring kits, silencer packing, higher quality replacement reeds and some branded apparel. FMF launches a new big initiative; the use of titanium for performance motorcycle and ATV mufflers and complete systems. The FMF Titanium 4 mufflers and systems are precursors to today’s even more innovative and highly developed Factory 4.1RCT products. In keeping with this titanium love affair, on the two-stroke side FMF introduces the Titanium 2 silencers. Still viable and available today for select applications, these in turn helped inspire FMF’s newest and popular anodized blue Ti Powercore 2.1 silencers. 2004-2005 — FMF focuses on centralizing mass. The Titanium 4 exhausts becomes Titanium 4SL, later the first FMF ‘Factory 4’ products. Additional innovations are made for overall performance increases with sound reduction, attention to quiet inserts, resonance chambers, packing density and volume. FMF introduces premium and multi-layer muffler packing. FMF Q series continues to evolve with these innovations. The company begins to closely pay attention to sound standards for motorbikes and quads in EU countries. For a limited time they produce specific Titanium 4 EU racing exhausts. 2006 — The year of the titanium Megabomb header. 2007 — FMF promotes “build a system.” Off-road riders wanting quiet, better power, less weight combine a Q4 and Powerbomb or Megabomb header. ATV riders on a budget combine Powercore 4 and stainless Powerbomb. For motocross/Supercross competitor, there is the Factory 4 slip-on and the Ti Megabomb.

2011 to present — Factory 4.1 RCT exhausts available across many brands, displacements and model years via full systems or slip-ons. Precision seam-welded titanium canister bodies save weight, increase ergonomics, further centralize mass, increase muffler-packing capacity and improve production efficiency. The Hex shape of Factory 4.1 RCT titanium leads to further initiative using aluminum, to keep products affordable for all. FMF also uses elements of these innovations on Powercore 4 and Q4 products. The 2.1 series of silencers are now available for the burgeoning two-stroke market. Stainless steel Megabombs offer high performance that’s affordable and durable, and further enhances the “build a system” approach for four-stroke and two-stroke segments in motorcycles and ATVs. ■

The Q4 slip-on muffler and the Megabomb header are a great onetwo combination for off-road riders looking for lightweight, improved and quieter power. FMF’s Gnarly pipe is a popular choice, and a regular contender, in the off-road/ enduro and Extreme Enduro racing scenes.

New Parts from the Off-Road Experts

hen it comes to the off-road market, Moose Racing has all bases covered, whether it’s purpose-built racewear designed for hardcharging action or all the necessary hard parts for keeping dirtbikes in ready-to-rip condition. For 2017, Moose Racing is adding to this already packed lineup of products with a range of new ones that includes rotors and sprockets built to be an ideal upgrade over the original equipment, and a trio of protective skid plates to help protect vital engine parts.

Let’s take a look at the new offerings:

Steel Rear Sprockets Also new to the Moose Racing catalog, these sprockets are manufactured from premium quality C45 high-carbon steel for extra strength and durability. They’ve also been CNC precision-machined to assure tight tolerances, and given lightening holes to cut down on excess weight. Moose Racing finished them off with an attractive, black powder-coated finish.

Steel Rotors New for 2017, these brake discs are laser-cut from highgrade stainless steel which means they’re not only tough, but corrosion resistant. Because off-road riding is an inherently dirty operation, these rotors feature a wave design that ensures the brake pads stay clean and effective. Moose Racing has also designed the rotor to be lightweight for improved feel and stopping power, and to allow for more efficient cooling. That lightweight design also means less unsprung weight, which is always a bonus for just about any rider out there. For maximum performance, pair the new steel rotors with Moose Racing’s M1, Qualifier or XCR brake pads.

Aluminum Rear Sprockets Introduced to the European market in mid-2015, these sprockets have received plenty of positive feedback and reactions from riders. New for 2017 are fitments for Beta and Sherco models. Available anodized in black or silver, with certain models also coming in blue, red or orange, these sprockets are sure to match any of your customers’ machines. The sprockets are manufactured using 100 percent German 7075-T651 aluminum that’s been tempered to reduce distortion and provide optimal thickness. This process results in maximum tooth and chain contact, meaning longer chain and sprocket life. These aluminum sprockets are completely machined into shape — no stamping or grinding here.

Pro Skid Plates This is the first in the lineup of skid plate offerings. The Pro model is made from a flexible, high-density technical plastic that offers many characteristics to help protect a bike. They are made 6mm thick for maximum protection of the frame and cases. The skid plates are thermoformed so they fit just right, and are 40 percent lighter than 4mm aluminum. Because they’re built from that technical plastic, your customers will get no vibration or rattling. The Pro Skid Plate comes with all necessary mounting hardware and installation instructions.

Carbon Fiber Skid Plates

Aluminum Skid Plate Designed to protect vital engine parts and cases from rocks and other debris, these Aluminum Skid Plates are clear anodized for corrosion protection and good looks. They are built from 4.8mm 5052 H-32 aluminum for extra durability, and feature a smooth underside so they won’t snag when crossing logs or other obstacles. The plates come with heat-treated chromoly steel clamps to keep them mounted securely, and feature oil drain holes for bike models that need them. The Aluminum Skid Plates come with all the mounting hardware. Replacement clamps are available separately.

On the high end of the skid plate range are these Carbon Fiber versions. These are made from a thick composite that has many advantages over aluminum, including a longer fatigue life and greater tensile strength. The composite material also absorbs vibration and do not amplify sounds like aluminum plates do. Because of the material used, these plates are molded to the exact shape desired, resulting in a closer fit and more overall protection. Unlike aluminum, these Carbon Fiber Skid Plates will bounce back from hard hits, where as a good sized rock will permanently deform an aluminum plate. The plates are designed with a higher front end that keeps mud from building up on the engine. All mounting hardware is included with the plates. ■

hen your customers want to refresh their motocross or off-road machines, they are looking to make them look as good as they run. Nothing makes a bike look better than a new body kit, especially new plastic with colors that really pop. Parts Europe features a wide offering of body plastics, including some great looking new kits from UFO and Polisport. UFO has been in the body kit business for more than 40 years. Since opening its doors, the Italian company has produced OEM Replica plastics for a huge range of dirtbikes. For 2017, the company’s color palette is simply blazing with brightness. Yes, UFO offers body kits in all available OEM color ways, plus white and black, but it doesn’t end there. Just take a

look at the new line of fluorescent colored complete kits for most of the bikes on the market. A good example is the fluorescent orange kits for all KTM SX, SXF, and EXC machines. Orange never looked better and your customers will love it. There are also fluorescent pink kits for newer model Yamaha YZ450F and YZ250F bikes, and the newer range of Honda CRF250R and CRF450R models. For your Kawasaki customers, UFO offers a vibrant fluorescent green for Kawasaki KXF machines. Your Suzuki customers will be well pleased with the fluorescent yellow for Suzuki RM-Z250 and RM-Z450s. These fluorescent kits really are eye catching and can easily be spotted on the track, and in the showroom.

Do your customers really want to make a statement out at the track? Point them toward UFO’s new ultra-bright and fluorescent plastic body kits.

Polisport is another great source for body kits, and has been in the market since 1978. For many years, the Portuguese firm has served as the OE producer for KTM. The company also offers a wide selection of products including OEM-colored replica body kits for most bikes from the 1990s to the present-day. The Polisport line includes fluorescent yellow full-body kits for the latest Betas, the newest Honda CR450F, a wide range of TC/FC Husqvarna models, the newest Kawasaki KX 250F 2017 and KX 450F, and for a number of current model KTMs. All Polisport fluorescent body kits include fork guards. Consider building a display bike using the new bright body kits to show your customers just how brilliant one of these kits can make a bike look. ■

TIRES

MC 360

Tires for the Track...or Street

W

ith the Sportec M7 RR, Roadtec Z8 Interact and more recently the new Roadtec 01 tires all in the lineup Metzeler is a major name in the performance-street market. It’s a brand well-known and respected by serious sport and track-day riders everywhere. But all that acceptance and success hasn’t diminished the “Big Blue Elephant” company’s commitment to the off-road segment one bit. Metzeler’s MCE 6 Days Extreme boasting 29 titles in the FIM Enduro World Championship and eight consecutive titles in the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship is proof enough of that. Metzeler tires, street, track or off-road, are winners. Now with the brand-new MC 360 they’ve added real versatility to the off-road tire market. Available in a variety of popular sizes and in Mid-Soft and Mid-Hard configuration the MC 360s are tires ready to do it all. Motocross, Supercross, Cross Country, Freestyle, trail riding, you name it, the MC 360s will handle it. And on top of all that they’re street legal, able to be ridden on the road and go anywhere you do. How’s that for versatility? The name chosen for these tires isn’t random. That number, 360, is meant to emphasize the all-around abilities on display here, tires able to take on and tackle any condition of soil or climate with an excellent level of grip. Offered in those two specifications, Mid-Soft and Mid-Hard, the MC 360s have been developed to ensure maximum performance in everything from soft, loamy soils and sand up to abrasive, rocky surfaces in every sort of mixed-terrain imaginable.

MC 360 Mid-Hard

All this versatility has been made possible thanks to the development of two innovative tread patterns, Mid-Soft and Mid-Hard. They’re designs and patterns offering, respectively, amazing traction on soft ground and, in the second case, all that traction coupled with resistance to tearing on the hard surfaces. And all this has been coupled with a special compound blended for consistent, long-life performance. And speaking of long life, with the MC 360s that term takes on a whole new meaning. In all the sizes and styles, both Mid-Soft and Mid-Hard, the tires are reversible. They can be used in both directions of rotation. So when the knobs become a little worn the rider can reverse the direction of rotation of the tire, essentially giving the MC 360 double tire life. And remember, along with all this the MC 360s are also street legal. That, without doubt, will be something very much appreciated by trail and Enduro riders, now able to leave home on the bike they’ll use at their final destination. ■

»» Talk to your rep about the new Metzeler MC 360s. They’re available in a couple of 21-inch sizes for the fronts and a wide selection of both 18- and 19-inch rears so there are tires for all the popular applications. There’s more information on the new MC 360 available at the Metzeler website, www.metzelermoto.com.

New Gaskets When You Need Them

C

ometic Gasket has what you need when you need it. Now enjoying its 28th year serving the racing and high-performance industry, Cometic prides itself on being a trusted supplier to this fast-paced world. In racing things change at the drop of a hat, and engine builders the world over have come to rely on Cometic because Cometic delivers – fast. That’s just as true for your dealership and its customers, too, and for all the Cometic gaskets and seals in stock at Parts Europe. When you need it, Cometic Gasket has it. Custom-engine builders turn to Cometic not only for all the normal-spec gaskets needed but also for custom-spec/oneoff gaskets. Over the years Cometic has learned how to answer the call for gasket applications in literally any bore size and almost any thickness.

Cometic’s in-house dyno allows the company to test new designs before they are released to the public.

In an effort to speed up the manufacturing process, and expedite the time it takes to go to market with a new design, Cometic uses laser and CNC cutting machines. The company can then quickly produce new gaskets without any hard tooling.

Why would that be necessary? In the uber-competitive world of racing serious thought goes into every engine built. Tuners are looking for every possible measure of performance they can squeeze out of a motor and the gaskets used, especially the head and base gaskets, play an important role. Not only do those gaskets provide a seal, by varying size and thickness they can also fine tune the amount of compression and quench a builder might want. And for those specialty gaskets they turn to Cometic Gasket. What does this mean for the rest of the powersport world, everyday riders and mechanics not involved in racing? A lot, as it turns out. Over the years Cometic has developed incredible relationships with race teams everywhere and these relationships have allowed Cometic to design, develop and prove new highperforming technologies and materials used in its gaskets. All that transfers directly to every other gasket and seal they offer. Cometic gaskets not only stay on top of the racing world, everything learned there is applied to the gaskets for the latest-model motorcycles, ATVs and UTVs available to the public. And that happens quickly, too. In many cases Cometic gaskets and seals are available even before that new model machine reaches the showroom floor.

Cometic Gasket supplies what’s needed, when it’s needed. Individual gaskets for just about any application and complete gasket kits for a full-rebuilds are available and Parts Europe has them all. ■

ike many high-performance powersports products, Ballistic Performance Components EVO3 lithium ion batteries got their start on the racetrack. Back in 2009, the Factory Aprilia Millennium Technologies AMA Superbike team needed a lightweight starter battery, so Millennium Technologies founded Ballistic Performance Components to develop a solution for both track and street. The key to a lightweight, reliable battery is a Lithium Ferrous Phosphate (LiFePO4) Cell. It proved to be the perfect choice for powersports applications because of its relatively low cost, non-toxicity, excellent thermal stability,

battery has an exceptional static self-charge rate of less than 10 percent per 12-month period. In addition to the LiFePO4 cells, Ballistic’s EVO line of batteries have heat resistant cases, 100 percent copper connectors and custom terminals that are made specifically for starting powersports vehicles. While the EVO line was developed for racing, it has benefits across all types of powersports. “The light weight of Ballistic’s EVO batteries help with acceleration, handling and gas mileage on any vehicle, whether it’s for the street or racing,” says Ballistic Performance Components owner Chip Spalding. “Additionally, our EVO batteries are rated at 2,000 discharge cycles versus 600 for a lead acid battery, so an EVO battery has a life expectancy about 2.5 times longer than a traditional battery.” The EVO3 is the latest lightweight lithium ion battery from Ballistic. In fact, the EVO3 is up to 7.7 kg lighter than the stock battery, providing significant weight savings. Because of the dry technology utilized in the EVO3, the battery can be mounted in any position. It is also environmentally friendly because it is nontoxic and recyclable. Altogether, the EVO3 is a compact battery that provides superb power, weight savings, long life, easy installation and simple disposal. Parts Europe carries the EVO3 battery in 30 different case sizes and power output options for specific applications. The OEM-specific fit ensures quick and easy installation for each fitment.

Sunstar makes its Works-Z sprocket from the highest quality stainless steel, and the result is that it weighs up to 50 percent less than OE steel sprockets. The Works-Z is heat treated for added strength. The sprocket has a hardness that is five times more than that of an aluminum sprocket, and twice that of a standard steel sprocket. Sunstar says that the Works-Z sprocket is also more durable thanks to its lateral strength, which is 1.2 times that of a standard, untreated aluminum sprocket. Customers will appreciate the offset tooth design, which acts as a self-cleaning system. That design, which was also found on the original Works-Z rear sprocket, has an even more important perk in that it helps to extend the life of the entire chain drive system.

Sunstar’s Works-Z sprockets are made from stainless steel, and are up to 50 percent lighter than OE steel sprockets. The sprockets are nicely complemented by Sunstar’s line of drive chains.

In addition, Parts Europe carries a range of Sunstar drive chains — EXR1 Works Endurocross sealed chains, 420 and 428 Motocross/Off-road Racing chains and the 520 Works Motocross/Off-road Racing chains are some of Sunstar’s high-performance options for off-road racing. ■

The Benefits of Cast and Forged

O

ffering more than 60 years of manufacturing experience, Vertex Pistons is a popular choice with engine builders the world over. But the question still comes up: Which style of piston, forged or cast, is the right choice? Vertex offers both, because both have their place. Forged pistons, the engineers say, are best suited to fourstroke applications where the cylinder pressures are high. Vertex forges its pistons from high quality 4032 and 2618 aluminum alloys, final-machining them to exacting tolerances with profile designs classified in A, B, C, and D sizes. That precision machining is focused not only on the skirt and crown areas, Vertex pays special attention to the radial flatness of the ring grooves and to the pin bores, as well. All this is finished with a proprietary VP-MoS2 antifriction skirt coating. A cast piston, the engineers at Vertex explain, is a design better suited for two-stroke applications. Able to take advantage of high-silicon alloy construction, a cast piston can not only be run tighter in the cylinder bore, but its strength, particularly at the crown, allows for higher compression ratios and higher temperatures. Vertex cast

No matter what type of engine, Vertex has cast and forged pistons that are an upgrade over the stock pieces.

pistons use special alloys to accomplish this, T5 or T6 heat treated to further improve their performance. Each Vertex piston comes with the latest generation two-stroke or four-stroke nitride-coated piston rings and case-hardened wrist pins. They’re all available in all the popular applications and sizes. ■

Bagger Bike Upgrades

arley-Davidson’s FL models are big bikes requiring plenty of strength and dependability. Whether it’s a high-powered custom or a heavily loaded Touring model it takes a lot to get those bikes rolling and then bring them down to a stop. Belt Drives, LTD, has a whole assortment of performance clutches and both open and closed belt-drive primary conversions for FLs. Super strong, every one is a major upgrade from stock and those closed systems are an easy bolt-in installation. The clutch systems, pulleys and belts all fall right into place.

When it comes to upgrading a Bagger’s brakes, check out GMA’s powerful 4-piston calipers.

BDL has a wide range of open and closed belt-drive primary conversions for FL models.

A new 2-inch belt system is especially appealing. Designed just for the FLs, it comes with one of BDL’s many Ball Bearing Lock Up Clutches. Completing the picture there’s a whole assortment of final drive belts in various widths and lengths. For strong braking, BDL’s sister company GMA has more FL upgrades. There are powerful 4-piston calipers for both single- and dual-disc applications. There are calipers with smooth or classic designs. There is even a conversion kit to upgrade a vintage Harley’s OE drum brakes to a dual-disc system. Available in chrome or black finishes, all the parts are made in-house and machined to exact tolerances.

Many bagger bikes need upgrade clutches, primary drives and brakes. BDL and GMA have them. ■

T

he watercrafts are coming out for another season of fun. That means riders are getting ready, as well, and new wetsuits, jackets, vests, rashguards, gloves, shoes, boots and more are all on the shopping list. Those wave chasers don’t have to look any further than Slippery to outfit the whole family. The 2017 Slippery lineup is ready, and with lots of brand-new styles, features, graphics and colorways it’s bigger, brighter and better than ever. There’s something for everyone and a look for every taste. New wetsuits always head the list and with the Breaker wetsuit and jacket and Breaker spring suit Slippery has that covered. Tough, long-lasting and comfortable, they’re made with rugged 2mm neoprene with flat-stitched seams, and with front-zips, hook-and-loop shoulder closures on the johns and a ¾-zipper on that spring suit they’re all easy-on, easy-off. Available sizes run the gamut from Small to 3X-Large and with color choices of red/silver, blue/green, black/gray, black/blue and black/silver there’s a look to suit everyone. The Slippery Tour Coats are available, too, with more of that 2mm neoprene construction, and with plenty of friendly features like front zip-pockets and a removable hood. Vests are always needed, and with the Array Side Entry Neo, Surge Neo, the Phoenix Nylon, Hydro Nylon, Impulse Nylon, Women’s Electra Neo, Women’s Ray Nylon and the Youth and Child Hydros Slippery has plenty to choose from. They’re all U.S. Coast Guard approved Type 3 PFDs and the styles range from low-profile with hidden belts and buckles to super-lightweight and long-waisted vests with chest pockets to vests with heavy-duty zippers, Drings and lanyards to models with hinged chest panels for a really comfortable fit. And again, there are sizes for everyone, X-Small to 4X-Large, and plenty of color and graphic choices. Colorway combos include black/green, red/silver, black/gray, blue/silver, black/gold, black/ gray, black/blue, blue/green, blue/orange, green/yellow, blue/white and even black-and-pink in women’s models. Slippery has all the rashguards riders need, too, both short- and long-sleeved, and there are Circuit and Flex Lite gloves, Liquid Race and Amp boots and shoes, too, everything to set up a rider head to toe. It’s all available now in all those new and exciting styles, sizes and colors and Parts Europe has it. And while those watercraft riders are looking over all this new gear for themselves make sure they see what Slippery also has for their PWCs. There are custom handlebars, throttle levers, whistles, floats, lanyards, bumpers, ropes and lots more. There are even specific-fit heavy-duty watercraft covers. ■
