Dress For The Crash by D on Em de

I

con is in the spotlight for this issue. It’s been great to follow this brand from its beginning more than a dozen years ago to where they are now as a trendsetter in the United States. Now they are bringing their successful strategies to Europe and we’ll see their story play out again with products featuring their “Urban Sportbike” look. What’s great about Icon is that, for sure, they push the limit on graphics, but they work even harder at making products to improve safety from head to toe. One of their original slogans was “Dress for the crash,” and that spirit still lives on in all of their products. Be sure to check out the latest Icon Overlord and Hypersport gear, as well as Icon 1000, Raiden and the rest in this issue. There’s more to see also from other brands sold by Parts Europe. Take a look at our features on Biltwell, Thor MX, Moose Racing, Kuryakyn,

AFX, LePera seats, Moose Utility Division, Pro Circuit, Alpinestars, Coastal Moto, Bassani Xhaust, British Customs, Cometic Gaskets, Twin Air filters, Yasuni Exhaust, Techmate, Belt Drives Ltd., Motion Pro, and other new products. In racing, Thor riders continue to battle for the MXGP world championship and MotoGP continues to thrill millions of roadracing fans who attend the Grand Prix races, or follow on television or online. Parts Europe continues as a sponsor of that series and you and your customers will see the distinctive Parts Europe signage at many races. We have a MotoGP update in the issue starting on page 36. Wishing you all a successful summer selling season!

Lane Splitter is our first ECE- and DOT-compliant helmet designed for high-performance motorcycle riding. To meet both European and US safety standards, it had to be tough. To clear our own high bar for all-day comfort, it had to be light. Merging these opposing traits into one helmet took years of research, laboratory- and ride-testing to get right, but the finished product is the most stylish and protective helmet we’ve ever produced. Lane Splitter’s outer shell features injection-molded ABS construction, a thermoplastic renowned for structural integrity, impact resistance and surface finishing. Inside you’ll find the same high-performance safety materials and attention to hand-crafted details that make every Biltwell helmet a top choice among modern bikeriders. NEWS EVENTS 2017 FIM Motocross World Championships PARTS EUROPE RIDERS ARE ON THE GAS

A

t just past the halfway point of the 2017 FIM Motocross World Championships, the seasons has been filled some amazing accomplishments for a host of Parts Europe-sponsored riders.

One such success was Thor/Husqvarna rider Max Anstie’s career first podium at the 11th round of the MXGP series in Lombardia, Italy in June. The MXGP rookie put in a stellar

performance in both motos, securing a third place finish in the second race at the tough Ottobiano sand track. At the prior round in Orlyonok, Russia, Thor/Kawasaki rider Clement Desalle hammered out at well-deserved MXGP victory in the premier class after finishing up third in the first moto, and getting the big win in the second. continued on page 12..

Then again, Desalle has demonstrated a strong drive this season. At the series’ ninth round in Ernee, France, he took the MXGP overall victory after two tough motos, grabbing the win in the first. The French MXGP in May also saw Thor/ Husqvarna rider Max Nagl hit a lightning quick start in the first moto to power through to a win. Desalle also performed well at the MXGP of Latvia, even though he was recovering from bruised ribs, an injury he received at the previous round. Although he grabbed the holeshot in the first moto, a few bobbles kept him from the podium in both races. He did put in a strong enough performance to place fourth overall. All told, this string of powerful wins and finishes has placed Desalle solidly in third place in the season’s championship standings. As the series moves onto the next races, heading toward the finish line, there’s plenty of room for the French rider to move up the rankings.

MX2 Class In the MX2 class, Moose Racing/Kemea Yamaha rider Benoit Paturel put in a good showing at the eighth round of the series in Teutschenthal, Germany. In the second moto, Paturel used a good start at the gate to push himself to a second place finish. Paturel put in another strong performance at the next stop of the series in Ernee, France – in the second moto no less. After exploding out of the gate to take the holeshot, Paturel set a great pace. He led the pack all the way to the checkers for his career-first moto win, and a second place overall finish. “I’m so happy with the race win,” Paturel said. “The crowd was amazing and winning the race was really exciting. This shows all the hard work pays off and I really want to thank my trainer, mechanic and everyone behind me. I also want to dedicate this to my mother!” Paturel heads into the next rounds at number five in the standings as of press time. ■

NEWS EVENTS Motor Show Poznan PARTS EUROPE GROWS IN POLAND

F

or the fifth year running, Parts Europe attended the Motor Show in Poznan, Poland, a show that the company considers one of the strongest for meeting with its European dealers and introducing new products.

It wasn’t all business, though. Dealers and other show visitors got to enjoy a stunt show by Icon-sponsored Ewa Pieniakowska, who put on a great performance for her local fans.

When it comes to its motorcycle business in Poland, Parts Europe says that Icon and Thor are among its most important brands, and the Poznan show afforded them the chance to highlight all the hot products in the spring catalogs. One such item was the highly anticipated Thor Sector helmet, as well as new items from Moose Racing.

Sales team leader Larissa Petry, sales agent Jan Kuratczyk and sales reps Pawel Czerniej and Michal Golubinski did a fantastic job meeting with existing and potential dealers, while answering consumer questions. The Parts Europe team says the Poznan Motor Show is an integral part of building up its network in Europe, and it’s blossoming base of dealerships in Poland. ■

The Parts Europe Polish sales team also showcased many new products in the 2017 FatBook, and had a customized HarleyDavidson Sportster on hand to attract the crowds.

The Motor Show in Poznan attracts thousands of visitors, all of them eager to see the latest and greatest powersports aftermarket products.

Custom bikes like this Sportster are always a good way to attract attention. The Adventure bike market is strong in Poland so the Parts Europe team outfitted a Suzuki V-Strom with a long list of Moose Racing hard parts.

con motorcycle gear is not designed to be subtle. Fans of the brand do not want to blend in, looking like every other motorcycle rider out there. Icon was designed for the streets, and street style should never be boring.

Since the brand was founded in 2002, Icon has had a brash, full-throttle attitude, and it shows in its most Iconic gear, apparel like the Overlord and Hypersport jackets. Icon founder and design director Kurt Walter is well aware that the attitude is as much of a selling point as the gear itself in the European market. “There are a ton of brands in Europe, way more than there are in the U.S.,” says Walter. “When we are operating in European territories, and they have so many of their own brands to choose from, why would somebody choose Icon? To me, the sole reason why you would choose that is because of the distinct American flavor that we bring to the motorcycle market, both in the visual style and the mentality behind the gear.” That mentality stems from the differences in riding culture between the United States and Europe. In the U.S., Icon is especially popular in the urban sportbike scene, where one is far more likely to find a ZX-14 with a stretched swingarm and a custom airbrush job than a BMW kitted out for touring. “Americans have a different riding accessibility than what I’ve found in most of Europe, and that mentality is reflected in our gear,” Walter says. “The easiest way to see that, obviously, is the graphics on the gear and our predilection for using skulls on things, which we have for so many years. It’s easy to write us off as just ‘that brand that puts skulls on stuff,’ but the reality is the core of the brand is much deeper than that. At its core, we’re out there to protect riders by creating gear that they want to wear because it looks cool and it does its job.” That last bit is what a lot of people tend to overlook about Icon gear. When you get past the crazy graphics or the bright colors, there are a lot of features designed specifically for a high-performance street rider. The street comes with a bevy of challenges not found on a racetrack, from gravel in the corners to distracted drivers trying to sneak a look at a text message. Designing the right fit and function for the street is just as key as making sure every skull looks as tough as possible. “The reality is that we’re building safe riding equipment; the fundamental goal is safety and protecting the rider. We just do it with a distinctly United States mentality,” Walter says. Keeping a rider’s body insulated from an asphalt attack includes using D3O armor in a lot of Icon jackets and pants. The shoulder, elbow, back and knee armor is made of D3O’s versatile material that enhances protection and shock absorption. It is flexible for a comfortable fit and has a low profile so a rider can avoid looking bulky.

The Akromont jacket and glove from the Icon 1000 line are classically styled and unmistakably made for the street.

26

Icon’s 2017 helmet includes the Alliance Lucifur, the Airmada Monkey Business and the Variant Double Stack.

The fit of Icon gear is also aimed squarely at street riders. Jackets come in three fit options: Relaxed, Sport and Attack. The Relaxed fit is ideal for a more upright sitting position on the motorcycle and a casual riding style. Sport fit has slightly pre-curved arms and a fit that is loose without being baggy. The Attack fit, meanwhile, is designed for aggressive sportbike riders, so the arms are pre-curved to accommodate riding in a tucked position and the jacket is form fitting to improve aerodynamics. Similarly, Icon pants come in Overpant, Relaxed and Attack fits. The Overpant category includes gear like the Raiden DKR rain pants, while jeans such as the Icon 1000 Akromont fall into the Relaxed category. The tailored fit of the Overlord Resistance pant tags them as Attack fit. Icon’s focus on street riders is another aspect that sets the company apart from brands that design for racers first. A racing-centric approach can result in gear that is designed for function only, with little attention paid to style or even the comfort of the street rider. “The functional inspiration is coming from the street, for the street. Our old tagline, that’s the mentality behind it, whereas a lot of the other European gear is ‘we race it on Sunday, and we offer it to the general public on Monday.’ There’s nothing wrong with that,” Walter notes. However, he adds that “it certainly doesn’t address the street rider in the U.S., but there is a big chunk of people in Europe who are not being addressed because of that same kind of race-focused mentality.”

PARTS EUROPE MAGAZINE

AUGUST 2017

Walter acknowledges that the percentage of the European riding population that fits the Icon demographic might be smaller than it is in the U.S. However, the sheer number of riders in Europe tells a different story. The percentage of Icon riders might be smaller, but their numbers are still high because so many more people in Europe ride.

E U R O P E A N I N F LU E N C E While Icon is an American brand, trends in Europe are actually a big factor in some of the gear, particularly when it comes to the premium Icon 1000 line. In fact, both Icon 1000 and Raiden, Icon’s line of off-road and Adventure Touring gear, are a big part of European sales for Icon. Walter spends a lot of time in both Scandinavia and the South of France, and both locations have proven to be big influences in his designs. “I design almost all of the 1000 gear when I’m physically in Europe,” he says. “That entire product line was designed on a month-long vacation when I was in Norway. And I do most of the product design, particularly for 1000, when I’m in Europe.” While in Europe, Walter has an easier time turning off his phone, ignoring email and settling in for a full day of designing new gear for Icon. But, he is also tuned in to his surroundings, finding inspiration in everything from an Iconic view to what the motorcycle riders on the streets are wearing. “No matter where you are, if you’re in that area, what’s going on around you, it’s brought into the gear, whether

Icon’s TiMax Titanium Riding Collection is a blend of the brand’s streetwise character, brash styling and performance.

it’s what you see people wearing, what’s in the shops, or whether it’s just the general atmosphere,” Walter says.

M A R K E T I N G A R O U N D T H E W O R L D

“If we’re going to be operating in Europe, I feel like at the very least the creative staff needs to be over there to try and get as much of the influence in what’s going on and how people ride and how it’s different than what we’re doing, and how we can make our stuff appropriate for what they’re doing.”

Icon is a longtime supporter of competitive stunt riding, and several riders who are sponsored by Icon are popular fixtures in Europe. Julien Welsch in France, Lee Bowers in the U.K. and Ewa Pieniakowska in Poland are all part of Icon’s team of freestyle riders.

Of the new products debuting from Icon this fall, two Icon 1000 jackets are especially inspired by the riding culture in Europe. The textile jackets, including both a men’s and women’s version, are fully waterproof thanks to a DWR coating, and they were designed specifically after Icon got requests from European dealers to design something for their weather. The demand for waterproof gear is not as great in the U.S., but Icon listened to the requests, and Walter designed something that stays true to the Icon 1000 aesthetic while still providing complete protection from the rain. The dark brown jackets are fully seam sealed and have Icon’s waterproofing Level 3, which can withstand heavy rain. The YKK metal zippers are also waterproof. A metal chest logo is a sophisticated nod to the brand, while debossed leather shoulders on the men’s jacket add a touch of style with a quilted look. The same quilting is found inside the jacket on the satin insulated vest liner. On warm days, the vest can be zipped out and built-in underarm vents in the jacket will help increase airflow. D3O armor is located in the elbows, shoulders and back, and the elbow protector pockets offer three placement positions so the wearer can ensure it fits just right.

Icon also gets the word out about its new products with its own custom motorcycles. The Icon staff undertakes the builds themselves, and the look and style of each motorcycle pairs with Icon gear. Most of the bikes are given names and have their own backstory, though that part is usually a sensational piece of fiction. Post-apocalyptic scenarios have been popular lately, often to showcase tough gear like the motocross-inspired Elsinore boots. The in-your-face, follow no one’s orders attitude that is a hallmark of Icon gear is easily seen in the motorcycles, with many of the design choices defying conventional thinking about what makes a good-looking motorcycle. In addition to providing great photos for catalogs, Icon also uses the bikes in short videos featuring the bike and gear combinations. It is a resource dealers can tap into for their own in-store marketing, and all of the videos are available on Icon’s website. ■

Lane Splitter

Top Fuel Styling, Radical Comfort

T

here’s big news from Biltwell again. The Lane Splitter is their first helmet to receive both U.S. DOT and ECE R22.05 safety certifications. Both standards involve subjecting a helmet to violent forces across a range of impact angles and velocities. Sophisticated machinery collects data from these tests to determine the helmet’s ability to reduce these forces to improve the rider’s chance of surviving a crash. The EU’s ECE R22.05 is widely regarded as the highest safety standard for motorcycle helmets in the world. Creating one new helmet that does it all wasn’t easy, and took Biltwell’s product team and OEM factory years of R&D to get right. If early high praise on social media is a barometer of success, Biltwell’s new Lane Splitter

Biltwell helmets are hand painted, with some finishes like this Bronze Metallic receiving up to six base, flake, color and clear coats during production. The results are evident, and contribute significantly to the high-quality vibe that imbues every Biltwell product.

looks poised to carve itself a solid chunk of the highperformance helmet market right from the start. With styling inspired by ’80s top fuel drag racers, the Lane Splitter’s advancements in fit, comfort and safety take Biltwell headgear into a whole new direction. To meet ECE and DOT safety standards, the Lane Splitter had to be tough. To clear the brand’s own high bar for all-day riding comfort, it had to be light. To merge these opposing traits into one helmet, Biltwell relied on some tried-and-true material and manufacturing technologies — an injection-molded ABS outer shell for durability, expanded polystyrene foam safety liner for impact absorption, and the softest hand-stitched fleece Lycra comfort liner in the game.

Flat Titanium is an enduring staple in Biltwell’s quiver of colorways, and has appeared on every helmet in the brand’s line. Plenty of your customers will find the Lane Splitter in this shade particularly appealing.

American bike riders jumped onto the tough guy style of the Lane Splitter as soon as Biltwell dropped it on a ravenous audience of wheelie-popping Dyna riders and other hooligan-style riders.

Biltwell’s target market for the Lane Splitter comprises fearless 20- and 30-somethings who grew up riding motocross and watching Sons of Anarchy on TV. Bike riders in this emerging demographic aren’t scared, and want everyone to know it. The Lane Splitter speaks loud and clear.

Other features include a scratch-resistant molded polycarbonate shield with anodized aluminum hinge hardware, removable chin spoiler under the chin bar to redirect airflow, and ample front, side and rear venting to dissipate moisture when the action gets hot. The Lane Splitter by Biltwell is available now in seven racy colors — Flat Black, Bronze Metallic, Gloss Black, Gloss White, Flat Silver, Gloss Blood Red, and Flat Titanium—in XS through XXL sizes. ■

ITALY VERSUS SPAIN! FIVE WINS FOR SPAIN, THEN TWO IN A ROW FOR ITALY Still struggling this year for consistency on his new Ducati ride, Jorge Lorenzo had his best ride of the season at Jerez to finish 3rd. Rookie MotoGP rider Johann Zarco was also impressive, coming home in 4th place. Yamaha riders Maverick Viñales, Johann Zarco and Valentino Rossi were, for a time, running 1-2-3 at the historic race circuit in LeMans, France. Rossi pushed too hard and crashed out late in the race.

Thus far, the main stories of the season are the fast start by points leader Viñales, who converted this year from Suzuki to Yamaha; Dovizioso’s resurgence as a world title challenger; a reduction in performance by 2016 world champion Marquez, and very respective rookie performances by Tech 3 Yamaha teammates Johann Zarco and Jonas Folger. There are still many races left in the season for these stories, and more, to play out.

At press time, the historic TT at Assen was next to run, followed by the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring before the month-long summer break. Nine races will then be remaining in the second half of the season.

Hot Weather Help Cool Gear for Cool Riding

urvey a group of riders about what constitutes good riding weather and it’s a sure bet, hot, muggy days, as well as sweltering, groundbaking heat, are pretty far down on the list. All that heat saps a racer’s concentration and leaves a trail rider flagging on the last bits of a hill climb. This is why your savvy customers take ventilation (and hydration) into account when picking out their riding gear for the warm weather months. In fact, some of the savviest make a straight line right to the newest collection of Moose Racing’s Sahara racewear. The jerseys and pants are built with full ventilation in mind. When Moose Racing first launched the Sahara lineup, the off-road experts on the brand’s R&D team knew they needed something that helps keeps riders cool, while providing comfort and protection. uggage can play a huge role with rider comfort and convenience. Whether on an all-day joyride or weeklong getaway, proper storage is vital when bringing along the essentials — including pets.

Riders lose valuable road time being bogged down by hulking bags requiring a surplus of straps that are harder to assemble than a pile of DIY furniture components. Kuryakyn’s new Momentum luggage answers the call with a trio of bags that deliver rugged utilitarian styling, versatile packing capabilities and hassle-free mounting. Momentum bags feature durable construction from UV-rated, weather-resistant 1200 denier textile material. Quick-mount designs offer convenient securing and removal on a wide range of motorcycles. Each bag includes rain covers, external bottle pockets, MOLLE modular attachment options (a popular system found on tactical and recreational equipment,) and low-profile carrying handles for easy transport off the bike.

Hitchhiker Trunk Rack Bag The Hitchhiker (p/n 3522-0008) is a highly versatile tour trunk rack bag. Integrated elastic shock cords with hookand-loop fasteners make secure mounting a breeze on any trunk-mounted rack. Other features include two forward-facing bottle pockets for rider and passenger, easily accessible main storage, plus external bungee storage options. Shape retention is also a key callout. The Hitchhiker maintains its contoured form when empty, and also conveniently folds up to stow in saddlebags or trunks when not in use.

Freeloader Duffel Bag The Freeloader Duffel (p/n 3515-0184) gives new meaning to the phrase stow-and-go. A wide top-roll sealed design offers easy access to a cavernous 38.9 liter (2,375 cu. in.) main storage (fully expanded). A separate bottom zippered compartment and multiple quick-stash pockets allow convenient access to the rain cover or other necessities. The external adjustable bungee storage system accommodates coats, bedrolls or other items, and the side-release buckle mounting system attaches to virtually any sissy bar or backrest in seconds. our sportbike riding customers are looking for the newest and most high-tech designs and products to go with their machines. When it comes to helmets, AFX has a couple that should appeal to them – the FX-50 Signal and the FX-95 Airstrike. The FX-95 employs an aerodynamic shell design constructed using an advanced lightweight composite material. The shield is a flush-fit, lock down, side-coverless face shield that is optically correct, compound-curved, scratch-resistant and protects against UV-rays. Changing face shields is also quick and easy thanks to the Airstrike’s quick release shield ratchet system with shield lock. On hot days this helmet stays cooler with eight points of ventilation with chin, side, forehead, top and rear vents – that’s two intake vents and six exhaust vents to keep your customers cool. It’s equipped with AFX helmet liners and cheek pads (as are all AFX helmets) that are removable and washable to keep them fresh and clean. Best of all, this helmet model meets or exceeds both ECE 22.05 and DOT FMVSS-218 motorcycle helmet safety standards.

Fans of open-faced helmets should check out all the new graphics and colorways on the FX-50.

The retention system is a race-approved double D-ring, and there is also ample ear cavity space for most speaker systems. There are five tinted shields available for this model. The helmet is also very light; a large size FX-95 weighs 1.59 kg. Put it on display and show your customers the new graphics. Available sizes: XS-XXL. When it comes to open-face helmets, it’s hard to beat the FX-50 Signal. The shell is a sleek European influenced design constructed using an advanced lightweight composite material. The flush-fit, built-in face shield is optically correct, compound-curved, and scratch-resistant and protects against UV-rays. Even though it’s an open-face helmet, ventilation is still highly important on the FX-50, which features four points of aerodynamically designed, flush-fit ventilation with chin, top, rear, and unique side extraction vents.

AFX has added a number of great-looking graphics to the feature-packed FX-95 helmet lineup.

The helmet features a smoke-tinted inner flip-down sun shield system so there is no need to wear sunglasses inside the helmet. This helmet model meets or exceeds both ECE 22.05 and DOT FMVSS-218 motorcycle helmet safety standards. The retention system is a micro-lock clasp for a quick release when desired. A large-size FX-50 weighs just 1.30 kg so it’s easy on the neck muscles. It comes with removable and washable AFX helmet liners and cheek pads. This helmet features four different configurations – with visor and shield, with just the visor, with just the shield and without the visor or shield. Available sizes: XS-XXL. ■

SEATS

Building on Quality

45 Years of Handcrafted Seats Bob LePera honed his craft with hot rods before becoming an expert motorcycle seat designer. His distinctive style and craftsmanship have been a part of LePera Seats ever since.

O

ver the past 45 years, LePera Motorcycle Seats has built a reputation for the quality of both the materials used and the final product. It’s longlasting legacy that started with the company’s founder, and continues with his children. The late-Bob LePera started LePera Motorcycle Seats in 1972, and it is a true family-owned and operated company. As one of the top respected seat brands, LePera is known for stylish designs and quality workmanship. Bob’s son Bob Jr. has been responsible for designing many of the iconic seats like Bare Bones, Silhouette, Villain, Stubs Spoiler and more. Christine, Bob’s daughter, heads customer relations and sales, amongst other things. The family commitment to quality endures, and today a huge selection of LePera Motorcycle Seats is available to European dealers through Parts Europe. LePera uses only steel bases, and it is one of the few remaining companies that still does so exclusively. Steelforming dies built for specific Harley-Davidson models allow the seats to have a clean, tight fitting base plate. The result is aesthetically pleasing, but it also offers a secure feeling for the rider. The brackets are all firmly welded or bolted with weld nuts to each base plate, something that is not possible with bases made of fiberglass or plastic. Once formed, the steel base plate is powder-coated and edged with a metal-reinforced vinyl protectant, then finished off with a carpeted bottom. LePera uses a special high-density molded foam that offers different levels of comfort depending on which seat is chosen. The seat is then finished with a wide range of stylish materials and patterns. Many LePera seats are offered in different stitching finishes, with smooth, pleated and diamond leading the way. LePera seats are designed to strike a balance between form and function. The company’s most popular seats conform to the lines of the motorcycle, enhancing the look of the bike without being overpowering. Seats such as the Silhouette, King Cobra and Bare Bones are perfect examples of that design philosophy. True, the Maverick, Sorrento and Outcast are thicker, wider and have more back support, but they still look amazing on

Solo seats can be ordered alone or with a matching pillion seat or pad. Parts Europe has LePera seats readily available for both new and old Harley-Davidson models. The OldBook alone has a wide array of seat options for Shovelheads, Panheads, and Knuckleheads, while more modern applications can be found in the FatBook. A handful of these seat styles have been in production since the 1970s, making them a true part of custom Harley history! ■

et’s face it, when it comes to most modern ATVs and UTVs, they may be packed with trail-crushing performance and countless capabilities, but they often come up light when it comes to adequate storage. That’s where Moose Utility Division comes in. The team at Moose Utilities Division knows its way around a four-wheeler and figured out just what works when it comes to hauling items out for a day’s work or a day of play. In fact, the company has a broad lineup of trunks, boxes and bags in its catalog. One such pairing is the company’s front and rear aluminum ATV boxes. These sturdy carriers are built from rugged diamond plate aluminum that is rust resistant and more durable than plastic or fabric. They’re covered all over in a black powder coat finish that resists cracking and fading, and helps minimize that potentially blinding glare from the sun. Each box features lids on gas struts that help improve access and keeps those tops down snug and tight — no rattling — on the trail. They also have weather stripping to further reduce noise and provide protection from the elements. The boxes are latched and locked via black stainless steel handles and double-post hooks for extra security. Drain and ventilation holes provide air circulation and provide for easy cleaning. The front box measures 82.3cm x 32.5cm x 16.5cm, while the rear offers 81cm x 37.5cm x 38cm of space. Moose Utility Division’s lineup also includes its front and rear cargo boxes, two tough containers made out of a durable polyethylene material that’s been treated to resist the effects of the sun. These two boxes have rubber seals to keep out water and dust, with lockable latches to keep contents safe. The lids open on rugged molded-in hinges so there are no parts to break or come loose. The front box measures 86cm x 45.5cm x 20.5cm, a full 64 liters of space. The rear measures 117cm x 58.5cm x 30.5, for a total volume of 118.9 liters. ■

Two Stroke Exhausts Title-Winning Technology

E

ver since Mitch Payton founded Pro Circuit, Husqvarna motorcycles have been along for the ride. It started decades ago when Payton was racing and tuning his own Husky, and continued on to those first exhaust systems that the company made for – of course – Husqvarna bikes. Once again, Husqvarnas, as well as the new generation KTMs, are at the front of the pack with the OEMs’ twostroke and four-stroke product lines, and Pro Circuit has the right exhaust system for every one of those machines. For your two-stroke riding customers, Pro Circuit offers the Works Pipe, Platinum Pipe, Platinum 2 Pipe, R304 Silencer, 304 Silencer, and Ti-2 Silencer. Horsepower and torque gains will quickly be noticed across the entire rpm range with these products. The Works Pipe offers performance and power for every two-stroke application. The un-plated, oiled metal finish gives your customer’s bike that works look. Stamped AKDQ high-quality carbon steel construction, with hand welded and pounded seams and reinforced mounting brackets and stinger, gives this pipe its raw looks to go with the raw power it produces. The Platinum Pipe offers the same performance gains as the Works Pipe, but is a more ideal choice for extreme weather conditions. It is constructed of AKDQ highquality carbon steel and includes a nickel-plated finish to

reduce rider maintenance and to help protect the pipe against nature’s elements. Next is the Platinum 2 Pipe offering the same performance gains as the popular Works Pipe. The Platinum 2 Pipe is constructed of heavy-duty 18-gauge metal that offers increased protection from rock or crash damage. This pipe also utilizes platinum plating on the body to help protect it from everyday elements making this an ideal pipe for customers who race or ride off-road, or who ride in extreme weather conditions. To get the most out of a Pro Circuit pipe, mate it with a Pro Circuit two-stroke silencer. The Ti-2 Shorty Carbon Kevlar/ Titanium Silencer is the latest piece of racing technology offered by Pro Circuit. Constructed with a carbon Kevlar shell, titanium tubing and titanium end-caps, it offers the factory look and appearance while reducing weight. The Ti-2 is for closed-course racing only. The R-304 Shorty Silencer was developed as a full-race two-stroke silencer. The compact design of the short aluminum canister offers optimum performance gains and is recommended for closed-course racing only. The 304 Factory Sound Silencer offers a slightly longer brushed aluminum body and stainless steel inlet tube and end-cap which offer added top-end performance while reducing noise output. ■

WHEELS

Cast for Custom

The Affordable Largo 3D Wheels

The trick, yet affordable, custom Largo 3D wheel from Coastal Moto is available in chrome and black cut.

W

hen it comes to customizing a stock Harley-Davidson, custom wheels make a huge difference. They’re also usually one of the priciest parts of an upgrade. With Coastal Moto’s Largo 3D custom cast wheel, that doesn’t have to be the case. Now available through Parts Europe, the customcast, fully 3D contoured Largo wheels come in two of the most popular sizes; a 21x3.5 front and an 18x5.5 rear, and come in two finishes, chrome and Black Cut.

THE PART NUMBERS, WHEEL SIZES AND APPLICATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS: CHROME BLACK DESCRIPTION Front Wheels 0201-2207 0201-2209 21˝x3.5˝ for 2008-2017 FLHT/FLHR/FLHX w/ ABS 0201-2206 0201-2208 21˝x3.5˝ for 2008-2017 FLHT/FLHR/FLHX w/o ABS Rear Wheels 0202-2103 0202-2105 18˝x5.5˝ for 2009-2017 FLTR/FLHT/FLHR/FLHX w/ ABS 0202-2102 0202-2104 18˝x5.5˝ for 2009-2017 FLTR/FLHT/FLHR/FLHX w/o ABS

The wheels come complete with bearings and valve stems installed. They’re ready to go on right out of the box with front applications for 2008 through 2017 FLHTs, FLHRs and FLHXs, and rears for 2009 through 2017 models. With looks like this, and with all that is included, your customers are going to sit up and take notice.

The Largo 3D wheels were an immediate hit when they made the FatBook. The Coastal Moto Largos are the only custom cast wheels on the market, excepting of course,

the OE stock and replacement wheels from Harley-Davidson. The Coastal Moto Largos are custom cast wheels that are a big improvement over the OE parts with a buy-in priced at just a fraction of the cost of anything forged or cut from billet. These wheels are plenty strong, too. Precision-cast and finished, the Largo comes with a Two-Year Warranty on workmanship and finish, and a Lifetime Structural Warranty. Keeping all this even more wallet-friendly, in addition to coming with the bearings and valve stems installed, the wheels accept the stock Harley-Davidson lug-mount brake rotors. The Largo 3D rear wheel also accepts the stock Harley cush drive and pulley. They’re available with intelligent ABS bearings, as well. This means they’ll work with Linked Brake Harley-Davidson models without any ABS re-calibration or added modules required, even if your customer only installs the 21-inch front wheel. ■

Muscle for the Milwaukee-Eight

Road Rage 2-into-1

H

arley-Davidson’s newest engine, the MilwaukeeEight, is all about torque and the enhanced riding experience it’ll deliver.

First versions are being fit into 2017 Touring bikes and, with past as prologue, riders are going to want new, better looking, better sounding and better performing exhaust systems. Bassani has them, pipes and mufflers designed and custom-tuned especially for those Milwaukee-Eights engines. A great place to start is with the Road Rage 2-into-1. Just like the Milwaukee-Eight the Road Rage is all about torque, performance and the riding experience, a perfect match to that new Harley power plant. Fitted, tested and ready to rip on the new eight-valve Baggers, that Road Rage is a genuine Bassani 2-into-1 with everything that means. The good looks, those great sounds and especially the added performance is here. And it bolts right onto that brand-new 2017 model Touring cruiser. Designed and built with Bassani’s experience and history of performance, the stepped-design head pipes start at 1¾-inches and go to 17/8-inches before emptying into the big collector and even bigger 4-inch muffler. It’s a system engineered for measurable horsepower and torque gains throughout the powerband, the kind of power veteran tuners know only a 2-into-1 can deliver.

A lot of riders like this look and with the Bassani True Dual Down Unders it’s delivered in a set of 1¾-inch head pipes that fit the line of the bike perfectly. Here again there’s a choice of chrome or black finishes, and to complete the system Bassani has a number of mufflers to choose from. The Bassani megaphones offer classic looks with a classic sound, and are performers in their own right. They’ll work especially well with those True Dual Down Unders. Big 4-inch mufflers with a big sound and an even bigger boost in performance, the Megaphones are offered in black or chrome and have black billet end caps with a cool looking machined flute detail. Bassani also has the DNT – Deep and Throaty – slip-ons ready for those new Milwaukee-Eights, too. Another nice choice, these performance 4-inch mufflers sound off with a controlled roar made possible by the three-step and perforated baffle inside. The DNTs are offered in chrome or black, there are megaphone and straight can styles and the billet end caps, also available in chrome or black, have that cool-look fluted detail but this time it’s on the inside. ■

Café Collection

Parts for Modern Classic Triumphs That café racer style and performance is as close as the Parts Europe catalog. British Customs has a whole line of bolt-on parts and accessories, including the GP slip-on exhaust.

Customs also has parts for Triumphs that classify as cruisers and sportbikes.

B

ritish Customs is as much a lifestyle as it is a brand. The company has been at the forefront of the café racer revival, and all of its bolt-on parts reflect the retro styling that is so popular right now.

First things first: The “British” in British Customs refers to the motorcycles that the parts are built for. In fact, the company itself is American, with their headquarters and manufacturing facility in Southern California, USA.

British Customs parts all have one distinct similarity; they are designed to be easy to install, requiring only common tools and a minimal knowledge of mechanics. The factory-spec designs ensure easy fitment, and British Customs encourages customers to mix and match parts for a truly custom look that can be achieved in as little as one weekend. Some of the British Customs components available from Parts Europe include seats, license plate frames, foot pegs, handlebar mounts and clamps, master cylinder covers and reservoir kits, gauge clusters and gas caps. Two of the seat options available are the Café Racer seat and the Slammer seat. The Café Racer design retains the original OEM seat height, but it is narrower than stock at the front. An optional integrated LED taillight has a British Customs LED Lucas-style tail lamp, and it installs via an easy plug-and-play harness. The black Café Racer seat has that distinctive retro racer styling topped with Tuck and Roll stitching.

Café Racer

The Slammer seat, meanwhile, is a slim, low-profile bench seat, available in black or brown with stitch finish options of Diamond or Tuck and Roll. Both the Café Racer and Slammer seats look like something from a past decade, but their modern interior has Hybrid Gel Technology, which combines gel and foam to eliminate pressure points. While British Customs designs parts for British motorcycles, the company also takes inspiration from trends throughout Europe, as evidenced by the new GP slip-on exhaust, available in a brushed finish.

Slammer

“At British Customs, we follow the custom scene in Europe to stay up to date on the cutting edge in motorcycle design,” said Jason Panther, founder and president of British Customs. “Taking inspiration from innovative builders like El Solitario and Blitz Motorcycles, we developed our GP slip-on Exhaust. These pipes are handcrafted in the USA out of 100 percent 304 stainless steel, and clock in at half the weight of stock mufflers. We love the look and sound of these pipes on the new Triumph Street Twin and Thruxton R.” ■

Your customers can give their Modern Classic Triumph an aesthetic and functional tune-up with one of British Customs seat options, the Café Racer and the Slammer.

arley-Davidson’s latest engine design, the Milwaukee-Eight, is ready for hot-rodding and Cometic has all the standard- and big-bore gasket kits necessary to get the job done. Cometic has cam-change gasket kits for the M8, too, and Parts Europe has it all. With two very different cylinder-head designs offered on the Milwaukee-Eight, there are a number of different gasket design options. Cometic has developed them all, in both stock and big-bore sizes. One version of the M8, the one used in Touring models with no lower fairings, features oil-cooled heads. A second M8 cylinder-head version, this one found on Touring bikes with lower fairings and with radiators behind them, has provisions for that coolant to flow through them. Cometic has the gaskets for both, in sizes ranging from the stock 107- and 114 cubic-inch displacements to a big 4.500-inch big-bore size. All told, there are nine different cylinder-head gaskets in this Milwaukee-Eight lineup along with new base gaskets, and that full cam-change kit. While the differences between all those gaskets are small and subtle, they’re critically important.

The second M8 head design, the one used on bikes with lower fairings, radiators and coolant, has two round coolant ports set significantly further back from the bore than the oil-cooling port. With this design the big-bore can safely go all the way to 4.500-inches with no coolant-port modifications and Cometic has gaskets in those bigger 4.250-, 4.320 and 4.500 sizes. (The illustrations on this page show the differences between the two gasket designs.) All of this is available now, and coming from Cometic you’re assured of quality, fit and performance. Cometic manufactures its gaskets from a comprehensive range of materials and, whether the situation calls for the latest in advanced technologies like an MLS (Multi-Layer Steel) gasket or a synthetic blend such as Aramid Fiber, it’ll be a high-quality product that was proven and tested with in-house dynamometers and engine assembly rooms. ■

n 1972, the motocross world was given a boost by a revolutionary product — a laminated, dual-stage foam air filter that, when soaked in special oil, allowed free airflow into the carburetor while keeping dirt, grime, sand and water out of it. It was effective, durable, washable and reusable. It took off, and the little start-up company that invented it, called Twin Air, hasn’t stopped ever since. The Twin Air Dual-Stage Foam Filter features a fused, dual-layer, open-pore foam with a coarse outer foam and fine inner foam. Adventure Bike air filters are another of the latest innovative products for your customer. Twin Air developed these for the Husqvarna 701, KTM 690 and Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin bikes. The new foam air filter is a direct replacement for the OEM paper filters. It’s a foam type air filter that offers better filtration and doesn’t restrict airflow and offers crisper throttle response. Cleaning is easy as the pads are removable. The new solution includes a separate filter frame, which is easy to install and the foam filter elements can be replaced separately without the need to buy another complete kit.

Twin Air’s lineup of air filters and filtration products feature the company’s ideal balance of airflow and dirt-stropping protection.

Evolving continually with motorcycle design and technology, Twin Air filters and accessories has continued to push itself with new product development. Today they are available for all off-road motorcycles and streetbikes. Twin Air filters are OEM-specified for more than twenty motorcycle companies, and are the official air filter of HRC Honda, Kawasaki Racing Team, KTM Factory Racing, Suzuki World MXGP, Husqvarna Factory Racing, Yamaha Star Racing, Factory Beta, Factory Gas Gas, Factory Sherco, and Factory TM Racing. n-board USB charging of smartphones, GPS and cameras has become an integral part of motorcycle riding and long distance touring. The downside is, riders often forget that the USB charger is still hooked up after the vehicle has been parked, and left long enough, it will drain that battery down to dead. There is no point in undoing the continuous good work that the OptiMate battery saving chargers are doing by letting the USB charger kill the vehicle’s battery after the ride. The OptiMate USB O-108 is a weatherproof in-line charger with 2m of reach that delivers 3300mA, which is powerful enough to fast charge the latest power hungry smartphone. The built-in battery protection shuts down three hours after sensing the engine has stopped, with emergency shut down set at 12.3V (AGM battery charge level below 50 percent.) A three LED panel indicates vehicle battery voltage status. The USB charge socket incorporates a unique zip-tie barrel and loops for quick attachment to any strut, bar or cable.

The USB O-108 can keep your customer’s electronics charged, while protecting their vehicle’s batteries. Its packaging is perfect for display.
