Lane Splitter is our first ECE- and DOT-compliant helmet designed for high-performance motorcycle riding. To meet both European and US safety standards, it had to be tough. To clear our own high bar for all-day comfort, it had to be light. Merging these opposing traits into one helmet took years of research, laboratory- and ride-testing to get right, but the finished product is the most stylish and protective helmet we’ve ever produced. Lane Splitter’s outer shell features injection-molded ABS construction, a thermoplastic renowned for structural integrity, impact resistance and surface finishing. Inside you’ll find the same high-performance safety materials and attention to hand-crafted details that make every Biltwell helmet a top choice among modern bikeriders. Parts Europe is proud to be an official distributor for Biltwell products. For more information, visit Biltwellinc.com, or speak to your sales representative today.

M

oose Racing/Kemea Yamaha rider Benoit Paturel picked up the first GP victory of his career after going 2-1 at the 15th round of the 2017 FIM Motocross World Championships in Switzerland.

The MX2 rider’s win also gave the Kemea Yamaha team its first GP victory as well. Paturel started fast in his first moto and quickly worked his way up to second where he battled for the lead with rider Jeremy Seewer in the last laps of the race. In the second moto, Paturel had a strong first lap and moved to the lead going into the second lap. After fighting a bit with Thomas Covington, Paturel took over the lead and managed to open a small gap on the rest of the field. ans of motorcycles, hot rod culture, music, drag racing, stunt riding, and rubber-smoking burnouts descended on Geiselwind, Germany for the 22nd annual Bike and Music Weekend.

Icon-sponsored stunt riders Julian Welsch and Ewa Pieniakowska put in some hair-raising performances, both solo and with other stunt teams at one of the festival’s Special Night Shows.

Motorheads and music maniacs from all over Europe gathered for the ultimate weekend of petroleum-powered madness the first weekend of August. On hand to introduce all these showgoers to their aftermarket brands were Parts Europe and Drag Specialties.

In addition to all the fuel-fired shenanigans, the event’s long-standing bike show showcased handcrafted beauties in 14 different classes. As usual, styles range from sedate to extreme for this collection of talented customizers. ■

Marc Marquez (93) was perfect in the Czech Republic. It was an easy day in the Czech Republic for Marc Marquez. A wet, but drying, track at the start of the race made it necessary for riders to make a pit stop to switch machines with slicks. While others stayed out longer, Marquez wasted no time and built an insurmountable lead he would hold to the finish. Jorge Lorenzo (99) has been slowly, but surely, improving his speed in his first year on the Ducati team. A new fairing design helped him build more confidence and he led some laps at the Austrian Grand Prix. He would finish 4th.

any two-wheeled road warriors long for bike trips unencumbered by excess stuff.

Even Biltwell’s brand manager, “Barnacle” Bill Bryant, has been known to leave for a long weekend with the clothes on his back and the knife in his pocket, a bedroll the only thing between him and a cold night on the ground next to his trusty FXR. If that sounds a bit too lean, Biltwell’s EXFIL-80 bag might be your customer’s ticket to good times. As its name implies, the EXFIL-80 features interior volume equal to 80 350ml beverage containers — just fewer than 85 liters (3 cubic feet) of weather-proof space for gear.

The padded pouch on the EXFIL-80’s back panel is a welcome feature on long rides.

Off-Road Apparel Built to Last

Moose Racing’s 2018 M1 lineup is as stylish as it is functional. The semi-ventilated jerseys and pants were designed with hard riding in mind.

T

ake a look through the Parts Europe catalog, and you will see a huge assortment of parts and accessories from Moose Racing. Hard parts for off-road motorcycles were the first products available from the company when it got its start just over 30 years ago. During those three decades, though, Moose Racing has built a reputation as a producer of quality, durable off-road apparel that is built to last. Some of the latest apparel from Moose Racing is the M1 line of semi-ventilated jerseys and pants. Designed with hard riding in mind, the M1 pieces are ideal for motocross or trail racers. The M1 jersey is made of semi-ventilated polyester with a V-neck collar. The quick-drying fabric draws moisture away from the skin quickly to keep the rider dry and comfortable. Stretch mini-cuffs keep the sleeves in place without being restricting, and the sublimated graphics are available in seven color schemes that all have a matching pant. Sizing is from small to 3XL. The coordinating M1 pants are constructed from a highdenier polyester chassis with double- and triple-stitched seams, and the pre-bent ergonomic design means the

pants don’t need to be broken in. The seat panel is reinforced for additional abrasion resistance. The knees are oversized for optimal range of motion, while full grain leather inner panels provide an extra layer of protection. Sizing ranges from 69cm to 104cm, and a three-point waist adjustment system provides a tailored fit. Moose Racing combines materials and styling to not only create durable, comfortable race wear, but to also produce apparel that stays on trend. Moose Racing’s designers have honed the fit of the company’s racing-centric chassis over the years, and these days, changes are focused on small adjustments for durability and style. The M1 gear reflects a more form-fitting, athletic fit that is preferred by younger riders. The integrated stretch panels are best utilized with this kind of fit, allowing each piece to move comfortably with a rider’s body despite the more tailored styling. Whatever the style trends may be, having race wear that lasts never goes out of style. Moose Racing designers opt for polyester and nylon materials that have a heavier gauge to better stand up to the flogging that riders put their gear through.

TVs and UTVs are a lot of fun, but they can also serve functional purposes. That is where Moose Utility Division comes in, manufacturing parts, accessories and gear that make it easier for everyone from farmers to hunters to get the job done, whatever the job may be. Having said that, there is no reason for functional to be boring. The new 112X wheels from Moose Utility Division are sturdy enough to carry heavy loads and withstand tough terrain, but they do not lack in the style department. The 112X wheel from Moose Utility Division offer a stylish – and durable – upgrade for a long list of ATVs and UTVs from Can-Am, Honda, Kawasaki, KYMCO, Polaris, Suzuki, and Yamaha.

And while they look good on the outside, Moose Utility Division wants to ensure that the 112X wheels look good on the inside, too. Each wheel is X-rayed while it is on the production line to double-check quality and reliability. The 112X wheels are made to fit an impressively long list of ATVs and UTVs from Can-Am, Honda, Kawasaki, KYMCO, Polaris, Suzuki, and Yamaha. Dealers should note that a Moose Utility Division-branded center cap is included with each wheel, but lug nuts must be ordered separately. ATVs that need extra protection for extra-hard work can add Moose Utility Division front and rear bumpers. The modern styling is a perfect complement to the most popular models, including the Honda Rancher, Kawasaki Brute Force, Polaris Sportsman, Suzuki King Quad, and Yamaha Grizzly lines. The front bumpers are made of powder-coated steel, adding extra protection against brush and stones that might stand in the way. The rear bumpers are constructed of steel covered with a heavy-duty rubber. The bumpers mount to the OEM bumper locations for easy installation, and each one is compatible with the company’s winch mounts. Check the Parts Europe catalog for the full list of winch mount applications, as well as the four Moose Utility Division winches that have capacity options of 1,814 kg, 1,678 kg, 1,360 kg and 907 kg. Parts Europe also carries replacement end caps for the brand’s front and rear bumpers, and they come in a pack of four. ■

The 112X wheels are designed to tackle riding in the woods, deep mud or sand, all without skipping a beat. The 112X line can handle load capacities from 306 kg for the 12x7 and 14x7 front wheels and 533 kg for the 12x8 and 14x8 rear wheels. The heavy-duty design is topped with a black contrast-cut finish.

A Primer on Sunstar’s Chain Options

S

unstar is a large supplier of sprockets for OEM and aftermarket applications, and every sprocket needs a chain. The company strives to meet all market needs with its variety of chain designs, sizes and lengths. This chain primer helps sort it all out.

520SSR CHAIN

At Sunstar, MXR stands for Motocross Xtreme Racing, and the MXR1 chain follows that ideal. It is a premium quality, highly durable non-sealed chain designed for off-road bikes of up to 500cc. The MXR1 has TripleStar treated ultra-hard pins and heattreated components for durability, but the superlight chain weighs less than 1.3Kg in the 120-link length. The gold MXR1 comes in 108- to 120-link lengths with a cliptype connecting link, and it is also available in a 520 size for mini-bike applications.

DRIVE CHAINS

Chain Choices

520MXR1 CHAIN

Similarly, the MXR is a gold clip-type chain, but it is best paired with mini off-road and street motorcycles that are 150cc and smaller. It is available in 420 and 428 sizes. The premier, racing-level offroad chain from Sunstar is the XTG, which has TripleGuard sealed rings, meaning there are three sealing lips and lubrication pools per side of the ring for added protection and lubrication. The XTG is ideal for off-road motorcycles and ATVs that are 750cc or smaller, and the gold chain comes in 100- and 120-link lengths with a press fit, clip-type link. Sunstar’s 520SSR (Standard Sealed Ring) O-ring chain is a heavy-duty option. It is constructed with heat-treated alloy steel for strength and durability, and the rubber Orings help reduce friction. As its name implies, the 520SSR is only available in a 520 size, and its 100- to 120-link lengths fit motorcycles of up to 400cc.

520XTG CHAIN

Another heavy-duty chain is the RDG, Sunstar’s street line of sealed chains in 520, 525 and 530 sizes. The DualGuard sealed ring utilizes two sealing lips and lubrication pools per side of the ring for better lubrication and less friction in high-heat conditions. The chain has a strong rivet-type connecting link. The RDG is a versatile option, and its application list includes most street models. The RTG1 is the premium-level roadracing chain, available in 520, 525 (suitable for offroad enduro racing) and 530 options. The Superduty 5, Truant 2 and Patrol 2 boots all forgo an internal steel shank — which Icon had been using in the previous generations — in favor of an engineered lasting board.

The Truant 2 is a redesign that purposely defies categorization. High-top inspiration is definitely visible, just like it was in the first-generation Truant. The full-grain leather chassis is supplemented by a leather shifter pad for an extra layer of defense against the lever. The hidden ghillie

Icon has reinvented three of its classic footwear options to offer the latest street-savvy style combined with new safety features and updated comfort.

The purpose is still the same – to provide stability and durability, especially in a crash. The lasting board (an internal part of the shoe), though, offers full-foot reinforcement that does not detract from comfort, making it a better option than the old steel shank. For even more asphalt protection, all three of the updated boots have D3O ankle inserts, providing armor exactly where it’s needed. The boots all have CE certification. The Superduty boot is one of Icon’s defining designs, and one of the first moto-shoes to blend motorcycle safety and functional features with a distinct urban look. FX makes helmets for nearly every form of motorcycling on the continent. The company offers full-face helmets for serious street riders and racers, modular helmets, dual-sport and Adventure helmets, crossovers, convertibles, vintage, scooter, and even snow helmets. Another outstanding offering from AFX is its FX-21 adult off-road and ATV helmet.

composite. Off-road riding can sometimes get hot, so the FX-21 has 11 points of ventilation with chin, side, forehead, top and rear vents – that’s a total of three intake vents and eight exhaust vents. A good selling point is the advanced ultra-light weight EPS protection system. The specialized In-Mold construction fuses the helmet’s outer shell with the impact-absorbing EPS liner. The two materials are fused together, and one is reinforced by the other. This exoskeleton allows these helmets to be engineered to be lighter, durable and well ventilated. A large-size FX-21 weighs just 1.34 kg.

One very useful feature of AFX helmets is that your customers can tailor the fit by replacing the existing cheek pads with thinner cheek pads (for a looser fit) or thicker cheek pads (for a tighter fit). They can further customize the way the helmet fits by replacing the existing comfort liner with a thinner comfort liner (for a looser fit) or thicker comfort liner (for a tighter fit). LED LIGHTING

Bright Idea

Adaptive Lighting for Better Illumination J.W. Speaker has 18 different fitment kits for its Adaptive Series headlights so the high-tech LED light can be installed on more than 1,000 different models.

E

ICMA attendees who stop by the J.W. Speaker booth E20, in hall 22, during the show in November will get to see new products that push motorcycle lighting to a new level of technology and illumination. The company’s renowned lamps have fitment options for a wide variety of motorcycles, including many European models. The new series of bright white LED headlights from J.W. Speaker are smart lights for motorcycles. The J.W. Speaker Adaptive Series of LED headlights know when a rider is leaning or turning, and adjust the light to eliminate blind spots.

These dynamically adaptive lights fight poor visibility when cornering, providing a targeted LED beam just where a rider needs it to make them feel more comfortable. It all happens thanks to on-board sensors and advanced electronics that calculate lean angles on a real-time basis, automatically directing the lights to coordinate with the path of the motorcycle. The result is maximized visibility in areas that would be left dark with standard, immobile headlights. The Adaptive Series lights are ECE and DOT compliant, and the integrated optical system has both an adaptive low beam as well as J.W. Speaker’s proprietary ComfortLite high beam. The heavy-duty, die-cast aluminum housings have a sleek design that feature plug-and-play installation. The sizing options include an 18cm (7-inch)

PARTS EUROPE MAGAZINE

OCTOBER 2017

The 18 different metric fitment kits available allow the Adaptive Series headlights to be installed on more than 1,000 models. J.W. Speaker realized that fitting LED headlights into some motorcycle buckets could be a challenge since the added length of the LED headlight might be too deep to fit. The fitment kits keep that from being an issue, allowing for easy installation that still maintains a seamless look. European models like BMW, Ducati, Moto Guzzi and Triumph are among the motorcycles that benefit from a fitment kit. Dealers can talk with their Parts Europe rep about the proper fitments for their customer’s bikes, and can also enter the year, make and model of a customer’s motorcycle at www.jwspeaker.com/fitment to find the right kit. J.W. Speaker will also have Model 8700 Evo 2 Dual Burn headlights on display at EICMA. The applications for the 18cm (7-inch) round headlights include a lot more than just motorcycles — off-road vehicles, mining vehicles and even buses can benefit from these high-performance LED lights. This new headlight features a Dual Burn™ high beam where all optics are illuminated, including the low beam optics, providing a brighter, long-distance punch of light down the road.

round fairing style as well as a 14.5cm (5¾-inch round) bucket mount.

The Model 8700 Evo 2 Dual Burn was designed as a direct replacement for 18cm (7-inch) lights, guaranteeing simple installation. The high-performance, high-output LEDs create a premium lighting solution that offers great visibility and durability, all while preserving energy efficiency. J.W. Speaker takes testing and on-road requirements seriously when designing and manufacturing street-legal lighting products. The die-cast aluminum housing is paired with a hard-coated polycarbonate lens for durability, while the high beam illuminates a larger portion of the road for improved visibility. ■

COMPANY PROFILE

Forging Ahead

Performance-Minded Pistons

Parts Europe distributes a number of Wössner off-road engine components, including complete piston kits, connecting rods and individual items such as wrist pins, main bearing kits and needle bearings.

A

s the owner and CEO of Wössner GmbH, Eckart Wössner believes that the success of the company comes from the success of its customers. That success can partially be measured in the number of professional race teams using Wössner’s high-performance pistons and connecting rods, but the success also includes recreational off-road riders who have total confidence in their engine components. Wössner himself was a motorcycle racer in the 1970s, and his company got its start as an importer of pistons from an American company. In the 1990s, the company evolved into its current incarnation as it began producing high-performance forged pistons in-house. A true family affair, Eckart Wössner still oversees the company, along with his wife Helga and son Tobias. Wössner continued to grow over the years, and there are now two U.S. locations. Wössner Italia and Wössner Asia have also joined the expanding Wössner Group. The Wössner-owned FGM Forging facility in Turin, Italy, allows complete piston forging control, and it is the main forging operation for the company. Today, Wössner is currently in the process of building a modern, larger facility at its world headquarters in Weil am Rhein, Germany. Currently, Wössner produces about 140,000 pistons every year at that location, and the new facility will allow the company to triple its current piston production. In addition to production, Wössner’s world headquarters are also the site of continued research and development

to further refine the quality and durability of CNCmachined forged pistons. Although Wössner is a well-established brand, it is a newcomer to Parts Europe. Currently, Parts Europe distributes a number of its off-road engine components, including complete piston kits, connecting rods and individual items such as piston ring sets, wrist pins, main bearing kits and needle bearings. Wössner high-performance forged premium two-stroke and four-stroke piston kits are designed and manufactured in-house on dedicated forges. The four-stroke pistons are produced using a double-bridged forging design. A number of top teams in Supercross, Arenacross and MXGP use the Wössner piston kits, adding to the company’s reputation for success. The pistons are lightweight and have extremely tight wall clearances, which results in reduced engine noise and better performance. Piston kits fit a range of models, with standard and oversized piston options available for most. Standard and high-compression ratios are also available for four-stroke applications. Each kit includes the necessary parts, including the piston, ring, wrist pin and pin locks. Check the Parts Europe catalog for the extensive list of applications. ■

Ready and Waiting

New Exhausts for the Latest Models

FMF Racing works hard to make sure its Southern California headquarters is producing exhaust systems and slip-ons for all the new off-road machines.

W

hen those new model year dirtbikes and ATVs arrive at dealerships, FMF Racing is already prepared with multiple new fitments across its broad lineup of exhaust products.

For more than 40 years, FMF has worked tirelessly producing high-quality exhausts – both two-stroke and four-stroke – for bikes from a range of OEMs, and for multiple disciplines of riding. That long history has allowed the company, launched by Don Emler Sr., to develop strong relationships internationally, and in the USA, with the manufacturers. The company has also developed technical sponsorships for a long list of professional and amateur race teams. These close ties mean that FMF can react rapidly to the launch of new models, building out new fitments and new products for the latest machines, right when your customers are taking delivery of that new model or are upgrading a previously purchased bike. Take those 2018 model year bikes for instance. FMF is already on the gas in its USA headquarters, making sure it will have the products available and in the Parts Europe warehouse by the time customers start coming in to purchase the new enduro and motocross machines. FMF already has the following 2018 models covered — Honda’s CRF450R CRF450RX (dual and single systems),

For those machines, FMF has fitments for its Factory 4.1 RCT Titanium full systems or slip-ons in that popular anodized blue with a carbon fiber end cap, anodized blue full titanium, as well as the stainless steel/aluminum version. FMF’s four-stroke lineup has many applications and fitments, whether it’s a full system, slip-ons or a single slip-on, all carrying a commanding combination of performance and value. If a customer’s budget is a little tight, let them know it’s easy to build a system one component at a time by starting with a slip-on whether a 4.1RCT, Powercore 4 Hex or Q4 Hex and then adding their choice of header. (Honda 450 singles must use slip-on & header at the same time) FMF’s research, design and manufacturing capabilities allow the company to be ready to go to market with new products right when the demand is hot. Should an OEM state that exhaust fitment between two model years is the same, FMF will still perform a comprehensive “fit check” to ensure a user friendly and seamless install. Most importantly, the company makes a complete performance and sound testing evaluation on the exhausts and new bikes, even if fitment is the same. n 1967 a French company named SECDEM set out to improve the wind protection of motorcycle riders, and the aerodynamics of motorcycles by developing windscreens and fairings tailor-fit for each machine.

The company eventually became passionately involved in racing and supplied bubbles and fiberglass fairings during the 1970s. Many GP teams and World Champions at some point used fairings or windscreens from SECDEM.

Double Bubble, which remains a popular sportbike and racing accessory. Now, after five decades of continuous design and development, Bullster boasts about 500 molds for bikes from 1967 to present day. Parts Europe carries a long list of fitments for motorcycles and scooters from a range of OEMs. All of Bullster’s windscreens are high quality, and are made with molded PMMA Optical Plexiglas, which offers 92 percent of light transmission. Every Bullster product follows strict quality control guidelines in each stage of manufacturing from cutting and molding, to finish and packing. Bullster manages its entire production in-house, and there are no subcontractors involved in the manufacturing process. Everything is produced on location in France inside the factory, based close to Charles de Gaulle Airport, north of Paris.

Bullster has been in the windscreen business for five decades and now Parts Europe carries a long list of fitments for motorcycles and scooters from a range of OEMs.

The company eventually changed its name to Bullster, which these days primarily focuses on windscreens and windshields. Throughout its history, the company has produced many innovative products, and in 1985, developed and patented the Speedy windscreen, a universal fit screen. In 1990, the company produced the racing

A Trusted Source to Stop those Leaks

T

he importance of a tight, leak-free seal for any motorcycle’s shift shaft and output shaft can’t be over-emphasized. Yet too often these are two neglected areas, the result being oily, dirty engine cases and a lubrication system contaminated with dust, dirt and water.

Over time, and oftentimes it’s sooner rather than later, these seals can dry out and crack, thus needing replacement. Cometic Gasket’s shift shaft and output shaft seals, like all the seals and gaskets from Cometic, are built to meet or exceed OEM specifications. They’re exact-fit replacements to repair these common leaky areas.

No more. Cometic Gasket has expanded its range of street-bike offerings to include these two all-important seals. There is a wide assortment of applications and Parts Europe carries them all.

Cometic manufactures all its gaskets and seals, these two new additions included, from a comprehensive range of materials employing advanced technologies like the MLS (Multi-Layer Steel) in gaskets calling for that, or synthetic blends such as Aramid fiber when that’s appropriate.

SEALS

Total Sealing

With Cometic’s new shift shaft and output shaft seals, your customers can make sure their engines stay healthy and free of contaminants. They can also prevent messy oil leaks.

Shift shaft and output shaft seals, seemingly simple parts, are critical to the health of a motorcycle’s engine and their function is two-fold. Obviously, they’ll keep an engine from leaking oil, prevent it from disgorging its lubricant and making a mess of things.

The company’s engineers carefully analyze the environment in which any gasket or seal will perform, selecting the proper material and applying the right technology to offer high quality gaskets and seals for today’s everchanging marketplace.

Just as important, those seals also prevent outside contaminants from getting inside an engine, where they don’t belong. With a good, leak-free shift shaft and output shaft seal, the oil stays cleaner longer and internal engine components, all the bearings and such, can lead a longer, healthier life. Parking spots and garage floors stay cleaner, too.

When it comes to helping keep a motorcycle’s engine healthy and free of contaminants, Cometic Gaskets new shift shaft and output shaft seals will help get the job done. ■

EXHAUST

Cooling the Slingshot

The Three-Wheeler Power Pipe

Bassani’s Side Exit exhaust system helps prevent excessive heat buildup in the passenger compartment of the Polaris Slingshot.

T

he Polaris Slingshot has turned heads since the three-wheeler was first announced. Tough to pigeonhole (Is it a motorcycle based three-wheeler or is it a low-slung automobile just missing one of its rear wheels?), the Slingshot is undeniably fun. Here’s a ride putting both the driver and passenger right up front and face-to-face with the fast-paced action. The Slingshot’s gained a strong following during its relatively short time in the market. Unfortunately, it’s also been the recipient of a fair number of complaints, mostly coming from the passenger seat. Specifically, things over there can get downright toasty. It’s the result of the Slingshot’s OE exhaust system design; it’s confined inside the bodywork right over there by the passenger seat. So, as much fun as a ride in the Slingshot can be, those rides can be cut prematurely short. Bassani has the fix. It’s a brand-new Side Exit high-performance exhaust system just for the Slingshot. In addition to adding Bassani power and tone, it addresses that heat problem. The system is a great way to improve power and performance as well as relieve all that excess heat from the passenger side, heat rolling off the stock exhaust system and becoming trapped inside the bodywork. Parts Unlimited has it.

There’s more. With the addition of the optional Off-Road Down Pipe, that mounts directly to the Slingshot’s stock exhaust manifold, not only is all that heat relieved, the Slingshot gets a significant power and performance boost. Bassani testing has shown a 10 horsepower gain at the rear wheel without any special tune. And beyond all this, beyond the power and performance gain and the welcome relief from that passenger-seat heat, the new Bassani Slingshot Side Exit exhaust sounds great. It has an aggressive note without that annoying drone set up by the stock system. It’s perfect for everyday driving and installation is easy, requiring only the drilling of one hole in the side panel on the passenger side for the exhaust pipe to pass through. For a lot of good reasons the Slingshots have a lot of followers. Bassani’s Side Exit exhaust system corrects the one big concern they all voice – the excess heat felt in the passenger compartment. Add in the power gains the system produces and its aggressive, but agreeable, tone and the swap becomes a win/win/win situation, an easy sale to a Slingshot owner. ■

lpinestars’ new protection systems for 2018 build on years of product development and professional competition to offer motocross and off-road riders of all levels and age excellent performance and comfort. Highlights for 2018 include the Sequence range of protection and the versatile Bionic Action Jacket, which is extremely lightweight and ventilated with CE-certified protection on the shoulder and elbows (level 1), back (level 1) and chest (level 2). Alpinestars’ Bionic Action jacket offers strategic protection without being bulky or impeding movement thanks to its ergonomically engineered design and build. With rigorous attention to detail, each protection plate and component has been developed to reduce weight while providing close-fitting body coverage. The Bionic Action jacket’s plates are contoured to the natural curvature of the body and incorporate airflow channeling to prevent heat build-up. All plates (back, chest, elbows and shoulder) are constructed from an injected polymer for flexibility and weight saving. The plates feature an innovative integrated grid structure that absorbs and dissipates energy forces across its surface during an impact. The jacket’s back protector features three articulated plates to allow for greater flexibility and adaptive fit in all riding positions. The plates are designed to biomechanically interlock in the event of a crash to reduce potential injury to the spine area. All the jacket’s protection surfaces are held tightly and securely in position thanks to the jacket’s Elastane stretch mesh body vest and elastic kidney belt system that gives a customized, secure fit. There is also a Youth Bionic Ac-

tion jacket version available that Alpinestars developed specially for younger or smaller-framed riders. Alpinestars’ CE-certified level 1 Sequence knee protector is ideal for racers and recreational riders alike. The Sequence was designed for close performance fit, weight saving and streamlining. The protector plates feature the same innovative grid structure to effectively dampen impact energy and are built for flex and mobility. There is a strategically positioned viscoelastic cup insert on the interior of the Sequence knee protector that helps to protect the knee joint and helps promote improved fit. The knee protector plates are incorporated into a stretch Elastane sleeve to keep the protection securely in position. The Sequence protection range also features a version for the elbow, sharing all the same performance benefits and ergonomics as the knee protector. Both have dual-strap, hook-and-loop closures that provide secure fitment, while allowing for unrestricted freedom of movement. The straps include silicone pull-tabs to allow the rider to conveniently close the protection while wearing gloves. The Alpinestars’ Sequence pro shorts provide additional coverage and comfort. Designed for a close fit under motocross pants, these shorts feature a mesh main shell and perforated padding for breathability and air-cooling. Made from a stretch mesh these shorts have a multipanel, body-mapped design for compression support. A newly developed, multi-density chamois padding gives unrestricted movement in any riding position. The Sequence pro short also has perforated inserts on the upper thigh and hip for additional coverage and fit. ■

Tough Basket

Forged Clutch Baskets for Strength, Reliability

A

malfunctioning clutch can render a bike or ATV un-rideable. Fortunately, Wiseco clutch baskets come to the rescue of riders who need a strong, reliable option.

Wiseco’s forged clutch basket comes with a lifetime guarantee. Stock clutch baskets are made of die-cast aluminum, which tend to commonly wear out or notch. Wiseco’s solution is a clutch basket made from 6061 aluminum that is heat-treated to a T6 condition. The metal blanks are forged, a process that helps give the aluminum feature-aligned grain flow, increasing the tensile strength along with resistance to impact and fatigue. To enhance strength, each pre-machined piece of forged aluminum is as close to the final size as it can be. The less material that is machined off, the more original strength will remain in the final product. Once the clutch basket is forged and precision machined, it is hard-coat anodized and coated with Teflon to increase wear and abrasion resistance, improve lubricity and provide a smoother feel in the lever pull. Wiseco produces every component necessary for a full clutch rebuild, including a forged clutch basket, rubber

cushions, fiber and steel plates, springs, a forged inner hub and a forged pressure plate. Wiseco clutch baskets, inner hubs and pressure plates have a lifetime warranty. The warranty is valid if purchased after January 1, 2009, and covers breakage and notching. It applies only to the original purchaser with proof of purchase. ■

New Levers and Tie-Downs

P

SR has been designing innovative, quality products since 2001, with the precision and detail your customers will appreciate. The lineup includes such products as the company’s Anthem and Journey levers, and the new Bike Tie-down Clamps (BTC.)

Bike Tie-down Clamp

Anthem and Journey levers are adjustable brake and clutch levers for Harley-Davidsons. Designed to accommodate hands of all sizes, these levers are CNC-machined from high quality aluminum. A six click-stop wheel allows for a custom pull length and feel. They come in black, chrome and black contrast. The levers are available for most Harley-Davidson applications, including the latest 2017 models. PSR’s patented Bike Tie-down Clamps (BTC) are designed to clamp instantly to most motorcycle grips to allow tiedowns to hook on to the bike for transportation. Made of forged aluminum with anti-slip rubber pads and stainless steel hardware, the BTC is an ideal solution for strapping down powersport machines whether they are sportbikes, cruisers, streetbikes, dirtbikes, or ATVs. ■

Engine Components that Take a Beating

irt bikes take a lot of abuse during a full season of riding and racing, and the off-season is the time when dealers can help prep engines for the new season ahead. ProX offers a variety of replacement key engine components through Parts Europe. ProX titanium nitrided valves are a direct and cost-effective replacement for the stock valves, offering increased durability and less wear under extreme conditions. ProX valve and spring kits include springs made from a pre-

mium chrome vanadium steel for better performance at high rpms. Each kit contains a set of steel intake or exhaust valves plus a set of valve springs. The components are compatible with the OEM retainers, bases and valve seals. Parts Europe carries ProX pistons in standard and oversized designs, and each kit includes rings, wrist pins and circlips. A low-expansion, low-friction aluminum alloy — the same material used by most OEMs — is used to manufacture ProX pistons on precision CNC equipment. The pistons meet or exceed OEM specs and are machined to extremely close tolerances. ProX complete clutch plate kits contain all friction and steel plates plus clutch springs for a complete clutch refresh. The plates are manufactured by factories that produce OE parts to exact specs, offering OEM durability at a great value.

ProX has titanium nitrided valves and spring kits, and complete clutch kits that are designed to meet or exceed OEM specifications.

According to ProX, its clutch springs are 10 percent stiffer than OEM, enhancing control and instant drive attributes. ProX clutch plates can be paired with either OEM or ProX clutch components. ■

amaha’s YXZ1000R is a real performance machine. With its triple-cylinder DOHC engine, a 10,500-rpm redline, a 5-speed sequential shift transmission and fully adjustable suspension, this unit is fully loaded. Barnett, a name well known for performance itself, has three different clutch upgrades for the YXZ1000R. The upgrades begin with a Barnett Clutch-plate Kit that replaces the factory pieces with 11 all-new Kevlar friction plates and 10 tempered steel drive plates. They’re a direct drop-in fit retaining the stock cushions/seats and the result is a significantly improved grip with smoother, more positive engagement overall.

The YXZ1000R spring-conversion, like Barnett’s other kits, replaces the stock diaphragm-type clutch spring and its cast pressure plate with six heavy-duty coil springs and a pressure plate CNC machined from billet aluminum. It provides strong, controllable, linear engagement and all the durability an YXZ1000R demands. Sport side-by-sides, the YXZ1000R especially, really give their clutches a workout. Strong, reliable, durable performance is a necessity and Barnett’s upgrades answer that demand. ■

»» Talk to your Parts Europe rep for details and check out www.barnettclutches.com.

Next, there’s the new Competition Clutch Kit. This time clutch capacity is maximized with 11 wide versions of those Kevlar friction plates coupled with the 10 tempered-steel plates. The Competition Kit also eliminates the narrow OE friction plates/cushions used in the factory 2016 and 2017 models. The latest addition to this upgrade lineup is a complete Clutch-spring Conversion Kit for the YXZ1000R, the ultimate companion to either of those plate-kits. 5

Tools for Improving Performance

T

here are still many motorcycles out there with multiple carburetors or individual fuel injection throttle bodies in need of accurate synchronizing. The advantage of fuel injection mapping becomes apparent when throttle valves actually open and shut in unison. TecMate has two updated solid-state synchronizing tools that can help dealers and their customers reach the goal of maximized engine power. The new TS-110 CarbMate (p/n 3804-0023) is a dual cylinder synchronizer that is cost effective and easy to use. CarbMate displays the difference in vacuum intake pressure between two separate carburetors (or fuel injection throttle valves) on the same engine. Once zeroed, it is as simple as getting the LED display to hit dead center. Further fine-tuning is possible from 2cmHg down to a more accurate and OEM-recommended 0.5cmHg. CarbMate is powered directly from the vehicle’s 12V battery. The updated TS-72 VacuumMate Allweather (p/n 3804-0057) kit is an affordable option for dealers demanding fast and accurate synchronizing of up to four carburetors or fuel injection throttle valves on two-stroke and four-stroke engines. VacuumMate displays individual manifold pressure on four vertically arranged LED bars. Features include set resolution of 0.5cmHg, selectable scales from 20cmHg to 55cmHg, an idle speed tachometer ranging up to 2000 rpm, and a dynamic mode to troubleshoot valve-seating issues that affect synchronizing. The kit includes unique flexi-rigid M5 and M6 manifold adapters and a charge cable for recharging the internal battery from any 12V source. ■

A D
