con is our highlighted brand in this issue. Its’ been great to follow them through the years, watching them establish the unique identity that they wanted the line to stand for. They took their own road—not following anybody—and never looked back.

Where many brands play off of involvement and success in racing, Icon has never been about that. They put all of their energy and resources into riding motorcycles on the street (with an occasional off-road excursion thrown in) and have always paid special attention to three key areas...Protection, Function and Graphics. An often-used Icon slogan has been “Dress for the Crash.” The Icon team has traveled many miles with top Extreme stunt riders and have always taken what they learn from those experiences and put it back into the product line. Icon apparel owners have never had to wish there was some extra padding, or zipper, or vent somewhere on a jacket or pant. If it was a good idea, someone at Icon headquarters in Portland already thought of it and got it designed in. These days, Icon helmets continue to raise the bar with more than just unique selections of shapes and colors. An Icon graphic usually has a story behind it, a real reason to exist, while at the same time splashed onto a really well-built motorcycle helmet. Lastly, the Icon line has grown in time to include lots of cool accessories, including a number of innovative backpacks and bags that are featured in this issue. Check out the Advokat, Dreadnaught and Slingback. ■

NEWS EVENTS 2018 FIM Motocross World Championship UPDATE AT THE HALFWAY POINT

A

t just past the halfway point of the 2018 FIM Motocross World Championships, the season has been filled with fantastic racing and some tough battles for the Parts Europe-sponsored riders.

As of round 11 at the Fiat Professional MXGP of Lombardia at Ottobiano, Italy, Thor/Kawasaki rider Clement Desalle was in third place overall in the points standing. That weekend saw the Belgian rider pick up a second place finish in the first race, but he stumbled a bit in the second after a collision with another rider sent him to the pits for repairs.

Despite the setback, Desalle still looked strong heading into the 12th round at the MXGP of Indonesia. Throughout the long season, Desalle has demonstrated time and again that he could regularly land on the podium – at each round, obvious by his position in the points standing. Here’s a brief snapshot of Desalle’s strong performances since we last left you in our report near the start of the season: The Thor/Monster Energy Kawasaki rider charged through the MXGP of Russia at the Orlyonok circuit with an impressive win and a second place podium, a tidy enough record to score the first place overall.

Desalle’s teammate Julien Lieber earned himself two top 10 finishes at the Russian track that had attracted a record audience drawn by the great weather and top-notch racing.

after a crash in time practice left him with what turned out to be a broken scapula. Despite the injury, he still rode his first moto to an eighth place finish.

The following MXGP of Latvia proved to be a bit more challenging. While Desalle stayed off the podium this round, he did pick off a 5-5 score to land fourth overall for the day. Lieber also hung in for another top 10 finish in race two, good enough to keep him in the top 10 of the points standings.

On to the French MXGP at the St. Jean D’Angely circuit just north of Bordeaux, where Desalle shadowed KTM rider Jeffrey Herlings through much of moto one to a second place finish. He just missed the podium in race two, but firmly cemented his third place standing in points.

Desalle was able to maintain his third place standing after a solid showing at the Matterley Basin circuit during the MXGP of Great Britain. These two races were tough and Desalle had a 5-5 showing. Teammate Lieber showed incredible grit

There is still a lot of racing left in the season and each round is an opportunity for these tough riders to add to their point totals. Stay tuned as the whole lineup of racers works their way toward the final round at Imola in Italy. ■

NEWS EVENTS Living the Dream PARTS EUROPE BUYER GOES RACING

P

arts Europe buyer Charlotte Deharbe had a chance to fulfill a longtime dream by racing in her first Grand Prix at the German round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship.

Competing in the Support/MXW Class, Deharbe said that just competing in the race was a fantastic – if tiring – experience. “It was incredibly rough and difficult, but I kept it on two wheels,” Deharbe, 30, said. “In the first race, I had a good rhythm and did battle with a few other riders, but mid-race I got really tired and I dropped back. I finished 36th.” In her second race, despite a rutted out and over worked track, Deharbe said she found some good lines and was able to get across the finish line in 33rd position. Overall she finished in 33rd.

Deharbe has been riding since was 12 years old, and started racing at age 16. A licensed street rider; she had a Honda CB1300S, but sold it because she never found enough time to ride it. “As long as I can race motocross I will do it, and it’s almost every weekend,” she noted. She currently has a 2018 Honda CRF250 and a 1987 Honda CR125. She once had several more vintage bikes, but sold a few off. For this season, Deharbe is racing in the IMBA European Ladies Cup and at press time was number 10 in the points standing. She also planned on racing at upcoming races in France and Belgium. “I am very happy I could live my dream,” she said. “If I have the chance to do another GP I will not hesitate.” ■

Illustrated

I

Throwback Helmet Designs and Attitude con came onto the scene back in 2002, charging into the motorcycle industry like an out-of-control teenager bent on upsetting the status quo. Things haven’t changed much since then.

The company is still known for its outrageous graphics and design aesthetic, with a focus on providing top-notch protective gear to modern performance riders who want to be geared up without conforming to the motorcycling norm. The “Hey, look at me” helmet graphics arriving at Parts Europe this summer are some favorites from the Icon lineup, and they are still as brash as ever. The DL18 and DC18 graphics on the Alliance GT helmet platform are re-issues of designs from back in Icon’s earliest days. Back then, Icon founder Kurt Walter was getting inspiration from a lot of sources outside motorcycling. The graphics that first graced Icon helmets were inspired by skateboarding, where great hand-drawn illustrations on skateboard decks would be virtually destroyed after just a day or two of riding. That style of illustration on a helmet, Walter realized, would look just as cool and – with luck – last a whole lot longer. With that mindset, Icon became an industry pioneer in using traditional illustrators for helmet graphics. Prior to that, many helmet designs were simply racer replicas or abstract designs. Icon, however, brought in a lot of character and even, on occasion, a complete back story to explain what was painted on the outside of the helmet. In that first year of Icon’s existence, the company teamed up with Dark Horse Comics to produce two limited-edition Alliance helmets. Sitting at a bar in Portland, Oregon, USA, artist Adam Warren sketched out a helmet design that became known as the Dragon Lady. Initial designs had the anime-style woman holding weapons, but Icon decided to opt for a more conservative, though no less dangerous-looking Dragon Lady – she might be unarmed, but she still looks like she would win in a fight. After the design had been perfected on paper, it was airbrushed onto an Alliance shell, and then refined even further. The Alliance Dragon Lady was an exclusive helmet limited to only 1,000 pieces that were hand-numbered on the chinstrap, and its design helped establish Icon as a major force in the helmet segment. One year later, in 2003, Icon introduced the Dixie Chick. Also designed in collaboration with Dark Horse Comics, the Alliance Dixie continued on page 24...

...continued from page 22

For its two new helmet designs, Icon’s designers reached back to two popular graphics from company’s early days — the Dixie Chick and the Dragon Lady. The designs were updated for the Alliance GT helmet.

Chick went through the same process, starting with a quick sketch by an artist before evolving into a helmet featuring the very distinct wrench-toting Dixie Chick. The stars on a blue background evoke something that’s a mix of American motorcycle icon Evel Knievel combined with images from the American South. Like the Alliance Dragon Lady, the Alliance Dixie Chick was a limited-edition run. Riders who managed to get one of the original Dragon Lady or Dixie Chick helmets can rest easy knowing they have a true piece of Icon history. But for everyone else, Icon has now re-introduced both designs on the modern Alliance GT helmet. (After all, there are people riding motorcycles today who hadn’t even been born when the Dragon Lady debuted.) The overall designs and color schemes have been updated to look less 2002 and more 2018, but both the Dragon Lady and Dixie Chick are still there, looking as good as ever. Icon’s Alliance helmet is still alive and well, too, though it has also been updated throughout the past 16 years. When it came time for picking which helmet to put Dragon Lady and Dixie Chick on, Icon opted to go with the Alliance GT. It boasts the same features that make the Alliance a combination of superb design, fit and quality, with the added bonus of an inner DropShield. The DropShield is a tinted half-face shield that is hidden behind the full ProShield and inside the helmet. In lowlight conditions, a rider can use just the clear ProShield. When the sun comes out, though, a switch that is easy to operate with gloves on lowers the DropShield to provide shade for the eyes. The outer ProShield is a quick-change, fog-free design, and the included ProLock shield locking system ensures that it stays securely closed even at high speeds. The

24

PARTS EUROPE MAGAZINE

AUGUST 2018

side plates that mount to each side of the ProShield offer a more custom, finished look. When it is time to swap shields, the quick-change setup makes it easy. The ProShield fits all of Icon’s Alliance and Alliance GT helmets. It is available in a number of tints and mirrored options, so a rider can get just the look they want for their helmet. The injection molded polycarbonate shell of the Alliance GT adds strength and durability. Its shape is Icon’s Intermediate Oval, which is the most common helmet fit type. It is slightly shorter front-to-back and a little wider side-to-side. The shell profile is reduced to help keep the overall weight of the helmet down, but the lower profile does not compromise when it comes to World Standard requirements. There are five oversized air intake ports and five recessed exhaust ports built into the shell that make up Icon’s Supervent system. Combined with strategically-placed channeling in the interior EPS foam liner, air is forced through the venting at both low and high speeds to help a rider keep a cool head. The intake vents can be controlled by individual vent triggers, and the overall Supervent design maintains airflow while reducing wind noise. Inside the Alliance GT is a HydraDry moisture-wicking liner. The liner is removable to allow a rider to clean it or dry it out (when it gets particularly hot outside). Air from the vents is channeled between the comfort liner and the protective, energy-absorbing EPS foam liner to create optimal airflow and reduce heat build-up. The Alliance GT is designed to the World Standard for certification, including ECE 22-05 Helmet Safety Standards. Sizing ranges from the XS for small heads up to an 3XL. Icon has a full line of graphics options for the Alliance GT and, for more subdued riders, the flat black Rubatone.

Backpacks are essential for motorcyclists and Icon has three stylish selections, the Advokat, the Dreadnaught and the Slingback.

Carry On Although Icon built its reputation on helmets, flip through the Parts Europe catalog and you will find a lot of other gear and accessories, from jackets and pants right down to casual gear like hats and T-shirts. Anyone who owns those pieces needs an easy way to carry it all around, so Icon also has a line of bags and backpacks designed with performance motorcycle riders in mind. All of them feature clean lines, storage areas that cinch down and a comfortable fit even when tucked in behind the windscreen. Icon calls the Advokat bag “professional gear for the professional rider.” The waxed canvas chassis looks sophisticated, and leather trim details add an extra touch of elegance. Side pockets can accommodate a water bottle, an included tool roll will hold some essentials and the 20-liter main compartment includes a 15-inch laptop sleeve.

An extra pocket will hold a D3O Viper back protector or a hydration bladder. Side compression straps let a rider cinch down the bag to keep a streamlined profile. When it comes to the Advokat’s fit, a rider has multiple options with padded shoulders, adjustable webbing, a chest closure and 3D mesh paneling. Another 20-liter option from Icon is the Dreadnaught. The backpack has a water-resistant main compartment with a rolltop design and a specially coated poly chassis with touches of reflective webbing. If the full 20 liters of space are not needed, the Dreadnaught can be cinched down. Like the Advokat, the Dreadnaught includes a laptop compartment, a tool roll and a pocket that will fit a D3O Viper back protector or bladder. The Dreadnaught hangs onto a rider via a riding-specific chest harness with a special magnetic chest closure to make it easy to put on and remove. The smaller Slingback is part of the Icon 1000 collection of premium gear. The 12-liter bag has just one crossbody strap that is wide and padded for extra comfort. The magnetic closure and a secondary anti-swing strap keep everything firmly in place. A Cordura fabric chassis stands strong against the elements, and the main compartment has a waterproof roll top. A tool roll is part of the package, too. ■

Jorge Lorenzo made sure everyone knew who was #1 at Mugello. It had been 23 races since he had celebrated a race win.

T

he 2018 MotoGP season has looked thus far like a classic stage play. To date, the play has been made up of three “Acts,” with more to follow.

The first three races—Qatar, Argentina and Austin— could make up Act One. The new season started out about the same as the old season had ended: Andrea Dovizioso battling Marc Marquez at the front...Ducati versus Honda... Italy versus Spain. After the race at Austin, they were just a point apart at the top. What else was the same as 2017 was the struggle to win races by Dovi’s highly-paid Ducati teammate, Jorge Lorenzo. Occasionally he led some laps, but lack of confidence in the machine under him had him struggling with ever-changing weather conditions and tire choices. After three races he had scored but 6 points. He had gone winless in Grand Prix racing since the last race of 2016, also his last race for Yamaha. Then for Act Two, there was Jerez and LeMans. Now Marquez got red hot—not unusual for him—and he won them both. Counting his Austin victory, this gave Marquez a three-race win streak and a 36-point lead in the standings. It began to feel like the number 93 Repsol Honda might run the table for the rest of the year. Leading laps and winning races seemed easy to him. Dovizioso went scoreless in those two races, crashing out both times. He was Ducati’s best hope in 2017, so the Ducatisti had to look to satellite team rider Danilo Petrucci for encouragement. Some did note that after four poor finishes to start the season, Lorenzo came home 6th at Lemans. It was his best finish of the year at that point. As Act Three began, there were many negotiations going on with teams and riders for the following year. Its called “Silly Season,” and for good reason. Suzuki was known to be looking to replace Andrea Iannone and one rumor was that since Lorenzo’s Ducati contract was coming due, Jorge might leave and replace Andrea at Suzuki. There was also a rumor of a

M OTO G P R E P O R T new Yamaha satellite team, and Lorenzo might land a ride there. But as quickly as his name was attached to a possible new team, the rumors were squelched. Some speculated the Spanish rider might not have a ride at all in 2019. On to the hills of Italy’s Tuscany region for race six of 2018. MotoGP races at Mugello are about as exciting as it gets, especially for those rooting for Italian riders and Italian motorcycles. With Rossi, Dovizioso, Iannone, Petrucci, and rookie Franco Morbidelli in the race, the Italian fans had good reasons to have high hopes for victory. Less so with the motorcycles. Neither Ducati nor Aprilia had much chance... so it seemed. When qualifying ended, though, Lorenzo had surprisingly landed a starting spot in the middle of the front row. He reported a breakthrough in his ability to feel confident with the handling of his Ducati and was very optimistic that he could maintain a good pace for the whole race distance. His new outlook came from a redesigned gas tank he had requested that carried the weight of the gasoline differently, and he admitted he rode the motorcycle a bit differently. In the race, as he had done a few times previously this year, Jorge started well and led the pack. He got some obvious

benefit when Marc Marquez threw away his three-race win streak with a crash. But Lorenzo got into his old form of consistent fast laps and sped to victory by 6 seconds over his Ducati teammate Dovizioso. The joy in the world of the Ducati faithful was, not surprisingly, huge. It took over a year, but the 3-time MotoGP world champion had finally delivered. The week following his great success, the chatter in the MotoGP world was about what Ducati would, or should, do now? Had he secured a ride for 2019 at the 11th hour, or would he be sacked? The management was tight lipped. Then came two stunning, but related announcements. The first was that Honda would be ending its 18-year relationship with Dani Pedrosa at the end of the season. And days later came the name of his replacement: Jorge Lorenzo! Before the curtain fell on Act Three, the rejuvenated Lorenzo dominated even Marc Marquez at the Catalan Grand Prix to score a second straight victory. We look ahead to the next Act. The MotoGP circus now travels to the heart of Europe for races in The Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic and Austria, with 8 more after that. Will the next phase resemble Act Three? Or will it reveal a new plot twist altogether? ■

Spanish foes Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa battle in France. While a 6th place finish should normally not be newsworthy for a full factory-sponsored racer as Lorenzo is, it was the best point-scoring day of the season for him at that point.

A common site at a MotoGP race is seeing the victor, Marc Marquez carrying his flag on the cool down lap.

No motorcycle racer has a more passionate group of followers than Valentino Rossi. His fan club gathers in Mugello.

Marquez, Rossi, Iannone and the rest had seen this before. Jorge Lorenzo (99) leading a race in the early laps, only to fade back as the race wore on. At Mugello, it all changed and Lorenzo never lost his lead.

After winning the pole in qualifying at Catalunya, Lorenzo took the lead at the start and sped away even from points leader Marc Marquez to record his second straight victory.

Not since his victory at the last race of 2016 had Jorge Lorenzo celebrated a MotoGP victory. He is seen here with Andrea Dovizioso on his right (3rd place) and runner up Valentino Rossi.

Rookie sensation Hafizh Syahrin (55) made history this year as the first racer from Malaysia to earn a spot on a team in the MotoGP world championship series.

MotoGP Point Standings

Dani Pedrosa leads fellow Honda rider Cal Crutchlow. Dani has struggled this year with some hand injuries, but had a good ride at Catalunya with a 5th place finish. It was reported before the race that Honda was dropping him from the Repsol Honda team after 18 seasons together.

any two-wheeled road warriors long for bike trips unencumbered by excess stuff.

Even Biltwell’s brand manager, “Barnacle” Bill Bryant, has been known to leave for a long weekend with the clothes on his back and the knife in his pocket, a bedroll the only thing between him and a cold night on the ground next to his trusty FXR. If that sounds a bit too lean, Biltwell’s EXFIL-80 bag might be your customer’s ticket to good times. As its name implies, the EXFIL-80 features interior volume equal to 80 350ml beverage containers — just fewer than 85 liters (3 cubic feet) of weather-proof space for gear.

The padded pouch on the EXFIL-80’s back panel is a welcome feature on long rides.

The EXFIL-80 boasts enough straps and heavy-duty attachment points to make installation on a wide range of motorcycles easy, but Biltwell designed it to fit especially well on any bike with a sissy bar or small backrest. Once mounted, the EXFIL-80’s padded backrest gives the rider a great place to sit back and relax. Unzip that padded backrest to reveal EXFIL-80’s tool pouch and interior zipper compartment for small parts and miscellaneous gizmos — smartphones, spark plugs, passports and bits and pieces.

Opening the padded backrest reveals a place where your customers can to store their tools (wrenches and sockets not included.)

The EXFIL-80 boasts a simple wide-mouth main compartment like a military rucksack. A long Velcro strip and two molded nylon buckles close tight for flap-free motoring.

The single main interior compartment is lined in waterproof hazard orange nylon, a feature that makes finding stuff inside those cavernous confines super easy. To close the main compartment simply give the bag’s wide-mouth opening a couple twists and clip each side of the closure to the heavy-duty nylon fasteners on each side of the bag.

An adjustable shoulder strap with generous padding attaches to the EXFIL-80 bag off the bike to make transporting gear a snap.

The bag is constructed of UV-treated and PVC-backed 1680 denier grade nylon, so it’s tough enough to haul

New Riding Gear for 2019

H

usqvarna rider Jason Anderson took his first 450 Supercross title in style - not only in his riding, but also in his Alpinestars gear, which brought a freshness and clean-cut appearance to his poise on track. Excellent fit, ergonomic design and high-quality material construction are the expected standards for every new Alpinestars motocross apparel collection, but the new, 2019 line-up looks to improve on the company’s track record. The pro riders – Anderson, Eli Tomac and Justin Barcia – have been running the gear since pre-season preparations began, ensuring that all the development details built into the 2019 line have been put through the ultimate testing. The new Supertech gear offers clean design and aggressive styling with pants that highlight the company’s race-winning pedigree. They are meticulously designed in a new pattern for the new year, and offer high levels of comfort and plush ergonomics.

Techstar Graphite

The main shell is constructed from an advanced stretch fabric composition, specifically developed by Alpinestars to give superior freedom of movement, strength, elasticity and durability. Reinforcements on the seat area and seams ensure the pants can stand up to extreme riding, and stretch mesh inserts deliver better cooling. The supple leather panels on the inner legs provide heat resistance and enhanced grip that riders will notice as they whip through turns. The ratchet waist closure system offers precise, personalized and assuring security. An advanced poly-fabric lining improves comfort and internal cooling, and the brushed interior effect provides excellent skin-contact comfort. Complementing the pants, there is the Supertech Jersey. This lightweight jersey represents a huge advancement in construction, consisting of stretch mesh with open mesh inserts on the arms and side torso for high levels of cooling airflow.

Racer Tactical in green camouflage

The innovative fully floating arm construction offers uninhibited freedom of movement, while the neck and pre-curved sleeves feature fully tape-welded hems for reduced weight. The Racer family is at its strongest ever with wide-ranging design and color options. Tech Atomic and Tech Compass offer five color options between them, Braap has five options, Supermatic and Flagship both have three colors, Tactical goes camo in two color variations and Racer also has its own cool monotone design with the Graphite. There are also fitments for youth riders.

The Jam Drystar® is 100 percent waterproof and is a year round shoe. It comes in a choice of city chic leather and suede, or a more relaxed leather and denim. The effect is eye-catching with high quality, supple leather on the front part of the shoe, and smooth suede on the back part of the shoe. The denim version features the leather on the front, and denim on the back, a perfect match for the riding jeans and pants that Alpinestars offers for urban performance.

The molded outer sole is streamlined and flexible to give support and excellent grip up on the foot pegs of the bike, and to provide good walking comfort.

Both options of the Jam have a full leather tongue for comfort and security across the front of the ankle; while multiple leather eyelets for the traditional lacing closure ensure long-lasting durability and an adjustable, secure fit. Drystar is Alpinestars own fully waterproof internal membrane that sits underneath the outer surfaces of the Jam, giving a breathable protection layer around the entire foot. Ready to Bolt

Off-Road Hardware Kits

For dealers and their customers, having the correct bolts on hand is essential for any rebuild or repair of a dirtbike or ATV. Moose Racing has a solution with its broad range M1 bolt kits.

P

utting together a powersports vehicle properly means having all of the correct parts, right down to the bolts. To make sure builds – and rebuilds – of off-road bikes and ATVs are as easy as possible, Moose Racing has introduced a long list of new M1 bolt and hardware kits. Ranging from more general applications, like metric and ATV, to model-specific kits, Moose Racing makes sure dealers and customers can get vehicles ready to go with ease. The kits ensure that no matter where the bike is being worked on, whether it is at the dealership, in a garage or at the track, the right part will be on hand. The M1 424 metric bolt kit (p/n 2401-1002) is a great choice for riders who have multiple brands of bikes. It is also a valuable tool for dealers who carry or service multiple brands of off-road machines. As the name implies, the kit includes approximately 424 parts, including bolts, nuts, factory hardware and other bits. The kit fits all full-size late-model Japanese motocross and off-road motorcycles from 2000 to current, making it extremely versatile. For Honda 125 to 450 CR/CRF models from 2000 to current, the M1 CR/CRF bolt kit (p/n 2401-1005) has factory-style replacements for easy swapping. Many of the parts in the kit will fit other Honda dirtbikes, too. The comprehensive kit includes rotor bolts, shroud bolts, seat bolts, sub-frame bolts, fork guard bolts, factory hardware, aluminum bushings,

aluminum rim-lock spacers, sprocket bolts, Fuji nuts, various washers, valve stem parts, hex-head bolts, and more. Kawasaki riders on 2003 to current KX/KXF models will benefit from the M1 KX/KXF bolt kit (p/n 2401-1004). Like the CR/CRF kit, the KX/KXF kit has a lot of parts that will also fit other Kawasaki dirt bikes. At 205 pieces, the KX/KXF bolt kit is the largest model-specific kit that Moose Racing offers. The array of parts includes factory style hex flange bolts with captured washers, hex head flange bolts, shroud bolts, seat bolts, sub-frame bolts, fork guard bolts, rotor bolts, sprocket bolts, factory hardware, rim lock spacers, valve stem parts, chain guide parts, Fuji lock nuts, various washers and an axle nut. The Suzuki solution from Moose Racing is the M1 RM/RMZ bolt kit (p/n 2401-1006) for 2000 and newer RM/RMZ 125450 models. The crossover possibilities include other Suzuki dirtbikes, older models and DRs. The kit comes with more than 178 pieces of hardware, including shroud bolts, seat bolts, sub-frame bolts, fork guard bolts, rotor bolts, sprocket bolts, T-nuts, aluminum bushings, rim lock spacers, valve stem parts, Fuji lock nuts, replacement bolts, and various washers. The versatile M1 YZ/YZF/WR bolt kit (p/n 2401-1003) was developed by Moose Racing for 2003-2018 Yamaha YZ/ YZF/WR 125-450 models, but it also crosses over to older Yamaha dirtbike models.

MOOSE RACING

In addition to the big line of bolt kits, Moose Racing also offers model-specific hardware kits for both European and Japanese dirtbikes.

The kit is one of the most extensive in Moose Racing’s M1 bolt kit line, with 200 pieces that encompass several hardware pieces, sprocket bolts, rotor bolts, valve stem parts, Fuji lock nuts, replacement bolts, various washers, and more. Another extremely versatile kit is the M1 Euro bolt kit (p/n 2401-1007). Moose Racing developed the kit for 125-500 KTM models, but it turns out that the kit is also ideal for many Husqvarna, Husaberg, Beta and GasGas models. The kit is comprised of 170 pieces, including factory style KTM hardware, bolts, aluminum washers and concave washers. The kit also has a collection of dimpled flange bolts, carb screws, body screws, sprocket bolts, clips, valve stem parts and more. ATV riders have not been forgotten. Moose Racing developed the M1 ATV bolt kit (p/n 2401-1008) to work with most ATVs. Hundreds of pieces are included in the kit, and some tools are even included for added convenience, such as hex/allen bolts.

Nuts of multiple sizes and types, flat washers, lock washers and two sizes of plastic rivets for fenders are also a part of the kit. In short, the M1 ATV bolt kit can handle most repairs for most ATVs, making it a valuable resource for both dealers and riders. Moose Racing also has M1 hardware kits available for specific applications, with hard-to-find washers, spacers and other miscellaneous hardware pieces that are specific to a brand. The hardware kits make a nice addition to a toolbox, especially for racers who need to have every essential on hand. The M1 hardware kits include versions for CF/CRF models (p/n 2401-1010), Euro models (p/n 2401-1009), RM/RMZ models (p/n 2401-1011) and YZ/YZF models (p/n 2401-1012). ■

or your off-road riding customers looking for an upgrade over the OE part, Moose Racing now has RFX rotors for off-road applications in stock at Parts Europe.

Moose Racing’s RFX rotors

Racing’s RFX rotors are designed for maximum performance when paired with Moose Racing M1, Qualifier or XCR brake pads. The rotors are laser-cut from high-grade stainless steel, and then are heat-treated to withstand warping and excess pad wear. The new design ensures maximum pad cleaning and heat dissipation, and everything is topped off with a colorcoded Comaxit surface treatment that matches up with the OEM colors.

ptiMate 4 Dual Program, first introduced in 2008, is TecMate’s premium powersport battery charger and one of its most popular.

The 2018 version now includes high efficiency global power conversion (100-240VAC) that meets worldwide efficiency standards. More efficiency means 20 percent more charging power as a faster 1 amp of constant current charge is now delivered. The nine-step program includes a save mode that can bring a battery back from as low as 0.5 Volts, earning OptiMate 4 the reputation of saving dead flat batteries. OptiMate 4’s dual program continues to be its most valuable feature, with program 1 delivering direct charge to a 12V battery, and program 2 allowing it to automatically deliver unsupervised charge and maintenance through the CAN-bus controlled 12V power port on BMW motorcycles. It’s fully sealed, with cables rated down to minus 40°C. All these features, including the proven OptiMate 24-7-365 connect and forget maintenance program, makes OptiMate 4 Dual Program a highly advanced powersports charger. Two models are available:

egend Suspensions has a range of upgraded suspensions for Harley-Davidson models, a lineup that now includes new air-ride setups for the 2018 Softails and high-performance, cartridgestyle forks for Softails, Dynas and Sportsters. 2018 Softail riders can now have air-ride rear suspension thanks to the new AIR-A M-Eight systems. This new design, specifically for the Milwaukee-Eight powered bikes, provides a plush compliant ride, with higher bottoming resistance. There’s optimum rebound performance regardless of a rider’s weight, and riders can also adjust them for everything from aggressive riding to casual cruising. Simply push the handlebar-mounted button to fine-tune the ride quality while stopped or on the go.

They can be fine-tuned for rebound via the six-position external knob adjustments, and there’s the exclusive Aramid Fiber air-spring technology that provides for spring rate adjustment on the go. The self-adjusting deflective disc damping ensures controlled performance, while the air springs maximize wheel travel and conform to any desired ride height. The AIR-A M-Eight comes with a pre-wired air compressor, a complete wiring harness, and is easy to install – it simply installs under the seat, replacing the stock shock. Complementing that AIR-A system are Legend’s new high-performance/cartridge-style fork upgrades for the Milwaukee-Eight Softails. The AXEO M8 is designed for all the new Softails with 49mm forks, while the AXEO43 Inverted are built for the new Fat Bobs. There is also a high-performance, cartridge-style front suspension – the AXEO39TS – for 39mm Dyna and Sportster forks. The AXEO drop-in cartridges are an easy-to-install upgrade that will immediately provide an upgrade in ride quality and control over stock. With these installed, your customer will enjoy improved stability, cornering and traction, and they eliminate front-end dive during aggressive braking and maneuvering. They also provide a firm feel when navigating high-speed sweeping turns, stop the bike from bottoming out on large bumps or potholes and reduces the chance of dragging floorboards and pegs. Riders can use the machined stainless steel preload adjuster to fine-tune the increased preload range for various riding styles and body weight. The AXEO43 has a proprietary micrometer preload adjustor and internal linear spring guide.

Legend Suspensions now has its air ride suspension for the range of 2018 Softails. The AIR-A M-Eight system is designed to provide a plush ride, with higher bottoming resistance, for the Milwaukee-Eight powered bikes.

All of these new suspension products from Legend come with a lifetime warranty and are hand-built in Sturgis, SD. ■

New Product Line for Scooters

PARTS & ACCESSORIES

High-Quality Crankshafts

Jasil is a longtime manufacturer of high quality parts and accessories for scooter applications. Parts Europe is now carrying a range of the company’s products, including crankshafts, variators and gearboxes.

J

asil is known in the European market as a highquality crankshaft manufacturer for scooter applications. The company was established in 1948, with crankshaft production coming in the 1980s, when Jasil was a supplier to a Zündapp OEM assembly line in Portugal. Jasil started its export journey in the 1990s, and today more than 85 percent of its production is being sold in 25 countries all over the world, giving the Jasil name a worldwide market presence. Now Parts Europe is carrying a range of Jasil’s crankshafts, connecting rods, clutch springs, variators, and gearboxes for a number of scooter applications. The company’s production processes include forging, turning, machining, grinding, gear milling and polishing. Assembly, laser marking and packaging are also done in house. Jasil’s long experience with the Kaizen Lean methodology of manufacturing – made famous by Toyota in its auto making – results in high-quality products. The other production processes, such as plastic induction, heat treatment, surface treatment and spring production, are outsourced to partners in Portugal who have extensive knowledge of these processes. The quality of these external services is guaranteed by the partnership that Jasil has with its suppliers, and by the know-how acquired during 70 years of production experience. The company also has an R&D Department to launch its own products and to support customers on the

development of their products in total exclusivity and confidentiality. Jasil crankshafts are produced from a special high-tensile strength steel that is heat treated to offer high resistance in tough conditions while maintaining good elasticity. Jasil offers four different crankshaft versions for each scooter model, so the customer gets the performance level that they need. The range of crankshafts for each model application includes Original, Racing, Evolution New Generation, and High Tech. Connecting rods and bearings are also available. The company’s Next Generation variator has a bigger diameter to allow more speed variation and better stability. Larger diameter rollers are used for dynamic compensation. A spring is provided to get a better connection between the speed variator and the torque corrector. The gearboxes are machined using specialized steel. Gear teeth are ground by the shaving process, with a specific heat treatment and rigorous quality control. The quality that goes into Jasil’s gearboxes means long-lasting performance for your customers. Jasil springs are made of high carbon level steel that is then case hardened and given a tempering heat treatment that guarantees a homogenization of the raw material, increasing its lifetime. ■

From Military to Motorcycles

Q

uality, precision, durability: those are words used a lot in the powersports industry, but those words are especially meaningful when it comes to military firearms production. That is the industry that brothers Lumir and Zak Mozga worked in before turning their love of motorcycles into a business. They founded Titax in their home country of the Czech Republic with very little funding but a lot of determination. Since then, Titax has grown from two brothers to a company with more than 30 employees. Parts Europe is now stocking several popular Titax products, including adjustable levers, lever protectors and handlebars. In addition to Parts Europe, Titax works with a wide range of companies, producing OEM parts for several

tories for testing, as well, Titax is able to refine its products to ensure the quality, precision and durability required by the Mozga brothers. Parts Europe is carrying two versions of the Titax adjustable levers, including the Racing and Evo lines. The Racing line is Titax’s economical choice, available in multiple color choices for most sportbike applications. The Evo lever is a high-end, ergonomic lever with curvature along its full length and precisely beveled edges. The design of the Evo offers both feedback and control through a rider’s hands. It is TÜV, KBA and ABE approved and utilized by teams in both Moto2 and WSBK. The Titax Lever S Protector GP is a light, fashionable lever protector derived from the company’s development work

Seal of Approval

Regina Z-Ring and RX3 Chains

Regina’s ZRP and ZRT chains feature the company’s patented Z-Ring seals, which greatly improve their performance and wear life.

T

hey say that with age comes wisdom. If that is true, then the Regina Chain company must be very wise indeed, as it is celebrating its 99th anniversary this year. These days, after nearly a century of making chains, Regina is best known for its proprietary Z-Ring seals for street and off-road motorcycle chains. The new-generation Z-Ring seal was patented by Regina in 2003. The seals have a specially designed conical shape on the inner side that enhances the assembling on the bushing. In addition, the Z-Ring flexes once it is assembled, and that creates a spring effect so that the seal will maintain its shape and functionality for a longer time. When it comes to street bikes, Regina has ZRP chains for high-powered sportbikes and ZRT chains for touring bikes. Both chain types feature the patented Z-Ring seals. The Z44 sealing rings used on the ZRP and ZRT chains greatly improve their performance and wear life. In fact, there is a 50 percent reduction in friction compared to traditional O-rings. Constant lubrication from a special high-temperature grease in the critical pin/bushing area provides long life, as well. High-carbon alloy pins minimize wear, the increased roller thickness prolongs durability and the thicker outer plates combined with quad riveting provide greater tensile strength.

up to 1300cc. The chains are already OE on a number of models, including all BMWs – like the S1000RR and on the F800GS – most Ducatis, all Aprilias, most KTM models and also some Japanese bikes. Each chain comes with a rivet-type link, but clip-type and hollow rivet-type connecting links are also available. To date, Regina has more than 340 world championship titles, and the knowledge from those successes is passed into the products offered to customers. Some of that knowledge resulted in another exclusive technology that Regina first developed in 1985 and can be found on motocross chains such as the RX3, a specially-shaped bushing that greatly reduces break-in wear and stretch that occurs when a standard bushing is used. Chain life is extended, too. The RX3 chain also features chromized pins, creating exceptional pin-surface hardness to maximize wear resistance and enhanced pin core strength for outstanding shock resistance. Jeffrey Herlings, Tony Cairoli, Blake Baggett, Roman Febvre and Jeremy Van Horebeek are just some of the riders using the Regina RX3 chain, which is also OE on all KTM, Husqvarna and TM Racing models. ■

TIRES

The SportSmart TT

A Tire Built for Road and Track

Dunlop developed the SportSmart TT tires for high performance on the road during the daily commute as well as on the circuit on track days.

T

he SportSmart TT is the fourth new tire Dunlop has added to its hypersport lineup in the past year and a half. For riders just as serious about their track-day equipment as they are about the tires they run on the street, this is big news. The SportSmart TT tires – with TT standing for Track Technology – bridge the gap between Dunlop’s pure performance track-day tires like the GP Racers and the more street-oriented hypersports like the SportSmart 2 Max (Premium), Qualifier II (2nd line) and GPR-300 (3rd line.) SportSmart TTs are tires that can be ridden hard on the street, and then ridden even harder on the track with no compromise in either situation. It’s the combination street/track-day tire that riders have waited for and that wait is over. The SportSmart TTs are available now and Parts Europe has them.

SportSmart TT’s inflation pressure on track days to increase the contact patch by up to 24 percent for a grip that’s close to what’s available with a strictly track-biased tire. While designed for grip, control and all-around performance, the race-developed compounding can deliver reasonable street mileage, too. Even with their race-tire like feedback, stability, feel and agility, the SportSmart TTs don’t compromise on wear rate. Modern sportbikes, small-displacement and large, are loaded with suspension and braking technologies that demand the most from a set of tires. They’re available in three front and eight rear sizes so there’s a set of SportSmart TTs for all the applications. ■

Modern sportbikes and naked bikes are loaded with performance suspensions, braking systems and electronic controls that put a real demand on their tires. Dunlop’s SportSmart TTs come with plenty of new technology of their own, features that make a 50/50 street/track tire possible. The tires feature Dunlop’s multi compounding and JLB (Jointless Belt) carcass construction. In designing the SportSmart TTs, Dunlop borrowed from its FIM Endurance World Championship experience, and has also included an all-new Speed Vent tread design along with a Dynamic Front Formula. These two new designs dramatically reduce steering effort, control tire temperature and deliver race-tire like grip and feel. On the rear there’s the new NTEC RT, a technology that allows custom tuning of rear-tire pressure to maximize the footprint on track days. Your customers can keep the standard manufacturerrecommended pressures for road use, but drop the

Kits for Small-Displacement Bikes

S

mall-displacement motorcycles have become a big deal. New riders have their eyes on them and experienced riders are adding these bikes to their garages.

With all the engineering and advanced features the OEMs are including these days, the 250s, 300s and 400s can serve not only as enjoyable entry-level commuters, but also as exciting track-day machines. Naturally, Cometic Gasket has this segment covered with gaskets and gasket kits for both street and off-road applications. The small-displacement Yamahas, KTMs, Husqvarnas and Kawasakis are covered with a complete

coating to insure coolant and oil passages remain sealed, and they’re available in stock and 3mm oversize bores.

GASKETS

Sealing the Deal

It’s much the same with the gaskets for the Yamaha YZFR25 and YZF-R3, and the Kawasaki Ninja/EX250. For the Yamahas, the Cometic head gaskets feature a two-layer Multi Layer Steel design in a .45mm thickness and it’s also coated with a special high-temp coating. The two-layer design allows the Yamaha to maintain its high compression ratio, and the embossment design focuses sealing pressure where it is most needed. The gaskets are also available in 60mm bore sizes for the R25, 68mm and 70mm for the R3.

Cometic Gaskets now has a complete lineup of replacement, upgraded gaskets and top-end kits for today’s exciting small-displacement motorcycles.

lineup of top-quality single- and multi-layer stainless steel head gaskets. There are also full top-end kits, new gaskets designed to improve on the factory gasket’s sealing capabilities with a more even and effective torque load across the sealing surfaces.

Cometic’s Kawasaki head gaskets, a single-layer design in these applications, also feature that special high-temp coating and the improved embossed design to limit bore distortion and improve ring seal. They’re available in 62mm, 64mm and 66mm bore sizes.

How are Cometic’s head gaskets and top-end kits an improvement over OE? Consider what’s available for the KTM 390 Duke and RC390, and the Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen 401s. Unlike OE, the Cometic head gasket is comprised of three layers of 301 stainless steel, with an embossed design that disperses clamp load across the entire surface of the cylinder.

The full top-end kits features everything necessary, including stainless-steel base gaskets with their own embossing patterns, and cam chain tensioner gaskets made from AFM material, a no-stick, aluminum-shimmed gasket with rubber nitrile bonded to each side for a superior seal. There are also premium armor-clad exhaust gaskets and high-quality Viton valve stem seals and O-rings. ■

It’s a vastly improved seal for these high-performance engines. Cometic gaskets also use a high-temp PTFE Polymer

CONNECTING RODS

P R O D U C T

S H O W C A S E

Strong and Consistent Replacement Connecting Rods

T

he connecting rod is one of the most tortured components in an engine. It’s compressed for half the combustion cycle, and stretched for the other half, which is why some may be hesitant when turning to the aftermarket to replace such a critical part. However, purchasing OEM parts can be a slow and overpriced process.

ProX connecting rods are constructed of double-forged Japanese steel, which is a highly recognized reliable material. Double forging means the raw steel is hammered twice to ensure strength and consistency. Dave Sulecki of ProX Racing Parts comments on forging connecting rods, “When you forge, it aligns all the molecules and grain flow within the structure to line up with the features of the rod. The grain will flow around the big end and the small end – it’s all aligned within the structure to give it better strength. When you double forge, you hit it once and then again to align it even further.” ProX connecting rods are also heat treated for strength, and barreled and shot peened to remove imperfections from the surface texture. This reduces the likelihood of issues stemming from stress areas.

Luckily, ProX Racing Parts bridges the gap between OEM quality and affordability. ProX’s complete line of connecting rod kits are made by OEM suppliers in Japan on the same tooling, which ensures all OEM dimensions are maintained.

ProX connecting rod kits come complete with the big end pin, big end bearing, and thrust washers, all under one part number. These kits are available for a variety of powersports applications. ■

SEATS

Long-Haul Luxury Super Touring Deluxe

L

ong-distance riders who feast on a steady diet of mile markers need a seat that allows them to satisfy their hunger for more time in the saddle. That’s exactly what Mustang’s Super Touring Deluxe was designed for.

Super Touring Deluxe

Available for both early and late-model Harley-Davidson FL Touring bikes, the Super Touring Deluxe is engineered to provide uncompromising comfort for rider and passenger. The seat is also visually stunning, as Mustang designers took styling cues from automotive interiors to craft a unique stitch pattern in the high-quality vinyl cover, highlighted by the tuck-and-roll center inlay extending through the passenger section. The main difference between the Super Touring Deluxe for 1997-2007 (p/n 0801-1062) and 2008-later FLs (p/n 0801-0962) is operator placement. While both are considered an extended reach design, early model fitment places riders 1 inch further back compared to the stock position. Late-model owners are placed 44mm back. A heated option is also available for 2008-later models (p/n 0801-0963.)

A 48.3cm wide front bucket offers ideal body angle placement along with ample lumbar support. The generous 35.5cm wide rear seat is also properly contoured, delivering support across its full width to keep passengers firmly in the comfort zone. Matching accessories for the Super Touring Deluxe include fully adjustable and easily removable driver backrests for both early and late model FLs, as well as passenger armrests for 2008-later models equipped with Tour-Paks. ■

CS-Series Compensators

T

he stock compensator at the front of a HarleyDavidson’s primary drive doesn’t last forever. And, when the clunking starts, the shifting gets hard and searching for neutral becomes a chore, riders might head to an authorized dealership for a pricey replacement. BDL has the affordable alternative. Not only do the CS34A compensators for 2007 and up Big Twins and the CS-24A and CS-25A for 1980 through 2006 Big Twins cut that replacement cost considerably, these redesigned and patented assemblies work without the OE spring and weigh less than the stock assembly. Easily installed, they’re direct replacements that eliminate the noise when dropping into first gear and smooth out the shifting from there. A win/win all around, performance and price, the CS-34A even works with either style stator rotor, 2007-2010 or 2011-2016, so there’s no added cost there, either. A three-piece design, the BDL compensators are highgrade steel with two special-design Nylatron washers between the sprocket and sprocket carrier. Both the

Building a Better Piston The 2-Stroke Racer Elite

W

iseco knows that complacency is detrimental to progress. Modern 4-strokes have largely dominated motocross, while 2-stroke innovation has taken a back seat.

Luckily, Wiseco has created the Racer Elite 2-Stroke Series pistons, manufactured with features outside the status quo of common 2-stroke pistons. In the past, 2-stroke pistons have been ordered in A, B, C piston sizing. Now, provided the bore is within that range, the 2-Stroke Racer Elite piston will drop in and conform to the proper size. The secret is ArmorFit–a pro-

Wiseco’s Racer Elite 2-Stroke Series pistons feature a proprietary coating – ArmorFit – that allows the piston to self-adjust to the cylinder.

prietary skirt coating that allows the piston to self-adjust to the cylinder. Wiseco R&D has developed ArmorFit in-house. It is a dry film lubricant that not only conforms to the bore size, but remains for the life of the piston, reducing friction and wear. While Wiseco has been forging 2-stroke pistons for decades, the company set out to make the 2-Stroke Racer Elite even stronger. The pistons are forged from 2000 series alloy, which offers greater tensile strength over the commonly used 4000 series. While stronger, this alloy is less resilient to heat and pressure in its raw form. Enter ArmorPlating, a proprietary surface treatment from Wiseco. Unlike most surface treatments, ArmorPlating is not formed through electrical current, but rather through a chemical reaction. ArmorPlating serves to protect against detonation, improve wear resistance, and creates better sealing in the ring groove. ■

Performance Sprockets and Hubs

T

he list of Sunstar sprockets available through Parts Europe takes up a lot of space in the Street catalog, and among them are the company’s Ducati sprockets. The lightweight, durable and efficient aluminum sprockets pair well with Sunstar’s Ducati hubs for a performance-minded combination. The sprockets are made of high-quality, aerospace-grade 7075 T6 aluminum that has been given a hard anodized coating for added durability and lasting appearance. The exclusive tooth-valley design offers a 24 percent better chain contact area than OEM sprockets, and the result is a maximum power transfer from the drive chain to the rear wheel. Weight reduction over stock comes from the aluminum construction as well as the design of the sprocket itself. Carefully engineered holes decrease the reciprocating mass to increase performance, all without decreasing the strength of the sprocket. In all, the materials, anodized coating and design all add up to an extremely durable sprocket that has significantly less weight and better performance than a stock steel sprocket.

NOTE: Due to the unstable nature of this 4-valve engine design with one rocker arm activating two valve springs, Feuling high recommends running one-piece pushrods over quick-install adjustable pushrods to maintain maximum cam/valve lift and reduce valvetrain harmonics and associated hydraulic lifter issues. NOTE: Feuling fastener kit PART #2401-0994 also highly recommended to help prevent cylinder head cracking; kit replaces the rocker shaft bolts with studs and nuts to help reduce the stress of the rocker shaft standoffs.
