Milano Awaits You by D on Em de

T

his issue features a preview of the all-important EICMA trade fair that opens at the Rho Fiera Milano on 5 November, 2019. This year’s event will be the 77th edition of this massive gathering of dealers, riders, press and more, all focused on the market for two-wheel and related powersport vehicles. In 2018, EICMA reported 1,278 brands represented and an attendance growth of 24 percent. Parts Europe continues to build each year on the success it has enjoyed in the past at this all-important event and beginning on page 24 you can read about this year’s plans. Parts Europe’s sales manager, Xavier Williart, previews some of the many products lines that will be featured, both for the trade-only days as well as when the doors open for the consumer attendees. Be sure to come visit Xavier and his sales team at EICMA. They are eager to meet you there!

A number of leading industry manufacturers are represented in this edition and we encourage you to learn about them in the featured editorials. We also have industry news, reports of trade events attended by Parts Europe, and also a pictorial from the world of MotoGP. Funny how that series has worked this year. On paper, it shows the season to be a total romp by Marc Marquez and the Repsol Honda team. Some races were, and the defending series champion’s consistency has been incredible, yet, at least two races ended up as exciting as racing ever can be, with race-deciding lead changes happening in the final corners. Best wishes for much success at EICMA, as well in the upcoming Winter season. ■

Ride Safe!

The tough sand circuit of Lommel at the MXGP of Belgium was no challenge for THOR/KTM rider Glenn Coldenhoff who finished with a 3-3 result.

2019 FIM World Motocross Championship WRAPPING UP THE SEASON

Photos by Bavo Swijgers

F

rom the opening round way back in March, to the final race in Shanghai at the MXGP of China, the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championships was a busy calendar filled with hard-fought races from one end of the globe to the other.

Throughout the season, Coldenhoff put in the hard work needed to pick away at the points, and it was an effort that paid off in the end. After a 1-2 showing at the season finale at the Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit, the Dutchman claimed third in the MXGP championship standings.

It’s in the middle between the start and the finish that the full drama of the series plays out. From weekend to weekend some of the most talented riders in the world battle it out in the long, drawn-out quest for the checkered flag, and the increase in the points tally.

How’d he get there? Here are some highlights going back to the 14th round of the series in the tough sands of Lommel at the MXGP of Belgium. It was here that Coldenhoff and his THOR/Standing Construct teammate Max Anstie put in a strong weekend of racing. Coldenhoff put in a consistent 3-3 result, while Anstie blasted past the field for a victory in the second moto.

A lot can happen through multiple weekends of racing in all types of weather and track conditions. Each race is a chance to climb in the points standing or drop down the bracket. If there’s one thing we’ve seen throughout the 2019 season it’s consistency, the consistency of THOR/Standing Construct KTM rider Glenn Coldenhoff.

At round 15 Coldenhoff earned a stunning victory at the historic Imola race circuit at the MXGP of Italy, winning both motos and taking first overall. That weekend alone bumped him up two slots in the points running.

NEWS EVENTS ...continued from page 11

A week later at the MXGP of Sweden, Coldenhoff had another strong weekend of racing, taking first place in moto one, second place in moto two and, again, taking that the first place overall. Once again, strong work like that bumped him up a slot in the championship standings. At the penultimate round of the FIM MXGP held in Afyon, Turkey, it was apparent that Coldenhoff had no intention of staying off the podium. After getting a third place finish in the first moto, the THOR rider fought for the win in the second, eventually finishing runner-up. It was in China where Coldenhoff picked off some more points by taking the victory in moto one, and second place in moto two, enough to land him in that third place slot in the FIM MXGP championship points standings. Congratulations to Coldenhoff and the rest of the THOR riders on a tough season of competition. ■

Those THOR/Standing Construct KTM riders certainly were determined this season. Teammate Ivo Montecelli had a strong performance at the MXGP of Turkey, putting into two motos that earned him a fifth place overall for the weekend.

Verbruggen and Smulders Dominate Open Dutch Championship

T

HOR/Jumbo No Fear BT Racing riders Kjell Verbruggen and Scott Smulders knocked out a serious 1-2 punch at the Open Dutch Championship event at Veendam. Verbruggen took two back-to-back victories in the motos for the overall win, while Smulders went 2-2 for the second spot on the podium. ■

NEWS EVENTS MotoGP, Up Close and Live PARTS EUROPE DEALERS BUY-IN PROGRAMS

T

he Parts Europe slogan, “We Support the Sport,” is more than just a saying, it’s a way of life. Not only are nearly all the employees of the company big fans of MotoGP, most of its dealers are as well.

And for those dealers, Parts Europe offers a special Buy-In Program that could have them trackside at races all over Europe. Sure, watching MotoGP on TV is great, but there’s really nothing like attending a race in person. There’s the smell of burned gas, the roar of the riders’ engines, the tension before the start, the excitement of watching riders duel, and the pure exhilaration of the victories.

By signing up for and qualifying for one of the Buy-In Programs, all of that can be a reality. The award packages allow dealers to get up close and personal with the teams and the riders, great meals, large screen TVs for great viewing, and, maybe if their lucky, a ride around the circuit in the safety car. Interested dealers can talk to their Parts Europe sales reps for more details, and get information on upcoming MotoGP Buy-Ins on www.partseurope.eu after the login, and in their dealer newsletters. For real MotoGP enthusiasts, it’s the adventure of a lifetime. ■

Thanks to large-screen televisions, dealers don’t have to miss any of the action on the track, even while enjoying a catered lunch.

Product specialists will be on hand to educate dealers and consumers. Parts Europe sales agents from all the countries in which the company operates will also be available to talk with existing dealers and companies, and with those looking to join the growing Parts Europe family.

The 77th edition of the International Bicycle and Motorcycle Exhibition – known worldwide as the EICMA motorcycle show – takes place 5 to 10 November 2019 at the Fiera Milano in Rho and will serve as the epicenter of the motorcycling world.

The company that organizes the exhibition confirmed the presence of all the top manufacturers and brands, and announced the opening of a new hall to meet the huge demand of the crowds that are continuing to attend. There will now be seven halls this year to host all the innovative new products, the new vehicles and the massive number of dealers and enthusiasts.

he EICMA show in Milan continues to reign as the most important and longest-running trade and consumer fair for the powersports industry. For 2019 Parts Europe will be on the scene with a full staff of employees and a massive range of new and exciting aftermarket products.

The show is central to Parts Europe’s reach across the continent, and much like it did in 2018, the company will have its huge booth setup to showcase products stretching across five different segments – V-twin, Off-Road, Quads, Street, and Workshop. In addition to highlighting such house brands as AFX, Icon, Moose Racing, Moose Utility Division, THOR, and Z1R, there is an impressive lineup of co-exhibitors who will be showing off their new products.

24

PARTS EUROPE MAGAZINE

NOVEMBER 2019

In 2018, the EICMA show hosted 1,278 brands spread out across six pavilions, and saw a 24 percent increase in attendance over the previous show. The 2019 event is shaping up to be a big show sure attract thousands of dealers and consumers. We sat down with Xavier Williart, sales manager for Parts Europe to get some insight on what visitors should expect at the 2019 show.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

products, such the new Icon Variant Pro helmet that many people are anticipating. Also, the Icon Airform helmet keeps on thrilling rider, especially when it is customized with mirrored visors and spoilers. The new THOR and Moose Racing collections will attract many of the off-road riders, and we will display a lot of hard parts that help make good bikes even better.

Will the Parts Europe staff be out in full force? Of course! The EICMA show is the place to meet all of the important people in the powersport industry. Our purchasing team will be there to talk to their business partners. And, the complete sales team will be there to get the latest product updates directly from the product specialists. After that, they will meet their dealers and offer full training product training and help them with well-informed answers to their questions. We are glad that our co-exhibitors are sending product specialists to make this special experience possible.

Will there be special show bikes to highlight how dealers can use the products from the Parts Europe catalogs to help customize their machines? This time we decided to choose the best bikes on the market and equip them with products from our portfolio. This is also to show how our dealers can do the same inside their shops. For example, it’s much easier to sell an exhaust system, handlebars, headlights, and other parts when they’re showcased on a bike rather than wrapped in plastic and stored on the shelf. Showing them these examples will help them to do similar demo bikes in their shops. We really hope this can help dealers sell better and increase their profits.

What do you have in store for the massive number of consumers who attend the show? Parts Europe Magazine: Mr. Williart, in 2018 Parts Europe made a huge step forward in terms of booth size and co-exhibitors. Did this event meet your expectations?

Xavier Williart: The EICMA show has always been the most important fair for us. Here we get the chance to show the products of our growing portfolio, meet the people of the powersport business and strengthen our strong international network to give our dealers the best possible service.

XAVIER WILLIART

Sales Manager, Parts Europe

We received a lot of very positive comments about the new booth design [in 2018] and the strategy to share our space with our co-exhibitors. The result was impressive. The Parts Europe booth was crowded all the time, especially during the first two days that are reserved for press and trade visitors only. We had 30 percent more dealer visits compared to the EICMA show in 2017.

What will be new at the EICMA show in 2019? We will continue doing what was good, and make some slight adjustments. As we have done in years past, we will offer dealers a fair special sales discount. Of course, we will also show our latest

I am pretty sure that it will be very interesting for every motorcycle rider to visit the Parts Europe booth. We are highlighting a lot of parts and apparel from our house brands like AFX, Icon, Moose Racing, THOR, and Z1R. We also will show a lot of Alpinestars gear for street and off-road. Our booth will also showcase a lot of great hard parts from wellknown brands for every type of rider, whether they’re using a scooter for daily business, cruising a big V-twin, putting in long distances on a touring bike, riding a streetbike or having fun on ATVs and UTVs. We want them to realize that their local Parts Europe dealer can help them build the machine of their dreams. Of course, we’ll also educate them on our versatile Parts Europe inventory app and dealer locater.

What are your expectations for EICMA 2019? This year Parts Europe celebrated its 10th anniversary. The company is developing well, but of course there is space for improvement. We are working to attract more brands to collaborate with Parts Europe so that we can always be adjusting our portfolio to meet the needs of the market. There are big players coming, and of course this will help us and our dealers increase the business. I also want to invite dealers to join us so we can have face-to-face conversations. The more we talk to each other, the easier it will be to fulfill their demands. The EICMA show is the perfect place to meet with our existing dealers, and urge potential dealers to join the Parts Europe family.

n 1994 the OptiMate battery saving charger was built as a result of Honda Motorcycles introducing the AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery into the motorcycle industry in the late ’80s. Soon after, other motorcycle OEMs followed suit with the more powerful, compact sealed-valve regulating leadacid type battery. AGM batteries are lead-acid batteries but with a difference; the acid is absorbed into sponge-like mats that effectively made it a dry battery, which mean no more acid spillage, long a rider complaint. Unfortunately, that compact design also proved more difficult to recover from a very low voltage and/or sulphated state. However, TecMate figured out how to fix this issue and created its unique OptiMate charging and maintenance method that helped AGM batteries work better and last longer. This method also worked well on standard lead-acid batteries. Then in 2009 a new type of battery was introduced that could deliver even more power Twenty-five years ago the first OptiMate battery charger was conceived as the fix than AGM, the Lithium Ferrous Phosphate for bringing back the new generation of compact AGM batteries from a very low battery, also known as an LFP battery.

strong, reliable, easily modulated clutch is something all sportbike riders appreciate. Ducati riders, especially those with the 6-speed dryclutch bikes, the 916, the 998, the 999 and the S2R1000 will a good selection of aftermarket clutch parts from Barnett. Specialists in the motorcycle clutch field since 1948, Barnett’s second-generation dry-clutch kits, heavy-duty replacement spring sets, billet aluminum pressure plates and patented clutch baskets can deliver that tight, non-slipping, non-grabbing and easily controlled clutch action that your customers want. Not only do they perform, these Barnett clutch pieces look great, too. The baskets, pressure plates and billet aluminum spring cups are offered with the choice between a red, black, gold, and a clear, anodized finish. Additionally, the pressure plates look good and grab tight but also help protect the entire clutch assembly in the event of a tip over. With Barnett there’s a great look, and strong, reliable performance. The upgrade starts with those clutch kits – Kevlar and carbon fiber for the wet-clutch bikes, and the second-generation kits for the dry-clutch models. For the second-generation kits, Barnett has substituted a unique damper spring in place of the troublesome OE wave plate for smoother engagement and ease in finding neutral. Barnett has also added a single, 3.175mmthick steel first-plate in place of the usual two thin plates. The result is increased strength, consistent, no-slip performance and the virtual elimination of clutch-drag, a common complaint from Ducati riders. Barnett has a full selection of clutch parts – heavyduty spring sets, billet aluminum pressure plates, baskets and plates – for a range of Ducati models, including those 6-speed dry-clutch bikes.

Heavy-duty springs along with super-strong, billet-aluminum baskets and pressure plates continue the upgrade. The chrome silicon springs are shot-peened, heat-treated and then powder-coated gloss black for a clean, long lasting finish. They’re supplied with stainless steel screws and billet-aluminum spring cups. The look is great, the performance reliable and there’s hardly any increase in lever effort needed. Barnett’s billet aluminum baskets and pressure plates complete the transformation. Available with those red, black or gold anodized finishes the baskets feature stainless steel inserts and ensure smooth, consistent clutch engagement with long-life durability. The pressure plates add a no-nonsense look with the CNC machined billet aluminum, and are designed to help protect the clutch.

TIRES

Popularity Contest Three New Tires

D

unlop is closing 2019 in style with the launch of three new motorcycle tires that cover three very popular segments of the industry. The Trailmax Meridian is an extremely versatile Adventure Touring tire with 90 percent on-road positioning and 10 percent off-road positioning. The Geomax Enduro EN91 is a capable off-road/enduro tire for a wide variety of terrain, and the TT100 Radial is a classic street tire style combined with modern technology. The Trailmax Meridian is designed for riders who crave adventure, whether that is on the pavement or off of it. With the popularity of Adventure Touring bikes like the BMW GS, Honda Africa Twin and Triumph Tiger, Dunlop knew that riders needed performance tires that could match the capabilities of the machines. That meant designing a tire with strong wet performance, sporty handing, high mileage and a reasonable amount of off-road capability. The Meridian has all of those characteristics, thanks to the combined knowledge of Dunlop’s sport riding and off-road development teams.

BMW GS, Honda Africa Twin and Crosstourer, KTM Adventure, Suzuki V-Strom, Triumph Tiger, and Yamaha Tenere and Super Tenere. Riders who are focused on enduro racing will want to check out the Dunlop Geomax Enduro EN91 tire. Dunlop designers specifically had the wide range of terrains encountered during enduro racing in mind when they created this new tire. As the successor to the Geomax Enduro, the EN91 version is ready to deliver extreme performance for competitive enduro riders. The tread pattern and compound are both new, and they provide improved handling, better grip and longer life.

The Trailmax Meridian is the successor to the Dunlop TrailSmart Max. This new tire offers improved mileage in straight-line riding, which means it is a smart choice for long commutes or touring. At the same time, though, the Meridian also has the performance characteristics required for twisty roads or mountain riding. That means riders can go from a weekday ride in the city to a weekend mountain tour with the same set of tires. The dramatic tread pattern on the Trailmax Meridian is designed to both maintain a high level of grip in dry conditions and efficiently expel water at speed in wet conditions. Dunlop’s MultiTread technology adds to the Meridian’s versatility, as does a high-silica compound, which provides outstanding wet grip and makes the tire more flexible at lower temperatures. On the rear tire, a new center compound extends under the shoulder compound to ensure overall stiffness for sporty handling and increased traction under acceleration. The Rayon ply casing helps increase mileage while shortening the warm-up time. It is combined with Dunlop’s Jointless Belt (JLB) construction, which enhances the tire’s handling. The Trailmax Meridian is not just for adventures on asphalt. It was also designed to perform well in off-road riding situations. Dunlop put the Meridian to the test against the TrailSmart Max, and the Meridian performed just as well in hard mud and gravel. The Trailmax Meridian is available in four front and three rear sizes to cover a wide range of models including the

The Geomax Enduro EN91 is available in one front size and two rear sizes, and it is eligible for FIM Enduro competition. While Adventure Touring bikes have been gaining in popularity, the classic styling of street bikes has been making a big comeback with bikes like the Ducati Scrambler and the Yamaha XSR. dial tire to feature those same traits. Riders want a tire that matches the timeless look of their motorcycles without compromising performance, and the TT100 GP delivers with outstanding sport-touring handling characteristics. The TT100 GP is already a staple in the Dunlop lineup, and the new Radial is a celebration of that tire’s history. Fifty years ago, Dunlop helped propel a motorcycle to a 100mph lap record at a TT race. Now, the TT100 GP Radial can help modern bikes look like an entry in the Isle of Man TT from years past. Tougher, Better, Stronger New and Improved Drive Belt

T

rinity Racing continues to expand and upgrade its already broad line of performance parts and accessories designed to give a boost to the current range of go-fast side-by-sides. Earlier this year the company introduced the Sand Storm drive belt, which has proven to be a popular product that outlasts and out-performs the OEM belt. Now, Trinity is introducing a new drive belt that’s designed and built to live up to its name, the World’s Best Belt.

The new World’s Best Belt from Trinity Racing is designed specifically for the high horsepower and extreme use associated with today’s range of highperformance side-by-sides.

That’s a pretty lofty product name, so let’s get the details on this new product for the Trinity lineup. The World’s Best Belt features all the same per formance - enhancing features as the Sand Storm does, but does so with even more strength and a few upgraded materials. First, the World’s Best Belt uses an extra heavy-duty, high-twist Aramid Fiber cord designed specifically for the high horsepower and extreme use associated with today’s range of beefy and built side-by-sides. It also features the highest shock load rating of all Trinity belts to date, which means it is designed to handle machines of up to 400 horsepower. On top of all that, it also uses a high modulous rubber compound (BZX1), which is a type of rubber that is tested to extreme standards, far beyond normal vehicle operation. This compound outlasts OEM drive belts by a substantial margin. The best part about this new rubber compound is that it allows for better heat resistance and heat dissipation. When comparing the World’s Best Belt to any other belt, it is apparent that the materials are very different, even the look and feel. So, what does better resistance to heat and faster heat dissipation mean to real-world use? Quite simply, it means that your customers can operate their high-performance vehicles longer, in more extreme conditions without

worrying about belt failure. The reason belts fail is because they cannot withstand the continuous heat. With this new design, the belt stays cooler, and therefore lasts longer than OE. All Trinity Racing drive belts come with a one-year warranty from date of purchase. So, if there is an issue, your customers will know that they’ll get taken care of. If your customers come in looking for a stronger belt that’s more reliable and affordable than the OE option, let them know that the Sand Storm and World’s Best Belt are economical and performance-minded options. ■

WITH A TRINITY RACING BIG BRAKE KIT When you run larger tires, you also need to improve your braking. The added rotating mass puts tons of added stress on the stock brakes. Trinity Racing Big Brake Kits are 30% larger than stock at 270mm. The heat treated 420 grade carbon stainless steel rotors are also 10% thicker, and therefore will last 10% longer. The New Variant Pro Refined, but Not Tamed

A

ggressive is a word that the team at Icon has never backed down from, whether it’s used to describe a piece of gear, a typical customer’s riding style or the company’s approach to marketing. The Variant helmet has been in that aggressive category since its debut more than 10 years ago, and while the new Variant Pro is a refined version of the original, don’t think for a minute that it’s any less fierce. The Variant Pro has been a much-anticipated new helmet from Icon, and its improvements over the original Variant include a fine-tuned fit, improved function and lighter weight. That weight savings begins with shaving off every bit of unnecessary material. The Fiberglass/ Dyneema/Carbon matrix shell is refined in a wind tunnel to ensure optimal performance at speed plus minimal bulk. The dual-density EPS core provides critical energy management while allowing the Variant Pro to maintain a slim profile. The Variant Pro is available in a solid Rubatone finish, as well as the uniquely styled Ascension range, the raw-looking Construct, and the bold looking Totem. The Variant Pro’s visor system adds to the aggressive styling, but it also helps block out bright sunlight while producing minimal lift characteristics. Combined with a fog-free Precision Optics shield that improves peripheral vision and produces an outstanding distortion-free line of sight, the Variant Pro offers great visibility. The helmet’s unique tool-less shield change system allows a rider to swap shields in a matter of seconds, and of course there are multiple shield options available. Inside the Variant Pro, the traditional three-piece liner has been upgraded to a five-piece liner, providing a greater amount of fitment combinations for each unique head shape. In all, there are 27 different fitment combinations available. The Hydradry moisture-wicking liner helps provide a more comfortable ride.

The Variant Pro is a refined and updated version of Icon’s popular Variant helmet. The new version features a fine-tuned fit, improved function and lighter weight.

The Variant Pro’s extensive venting system works at all speeds – in other words, even when aggressive riding isn’t necessary – to ensure air keeps flowing to the helmet interior. There are six air intakes and four exhaust ports connected by deep channeling in the EPS foam liner for maximum airflow. ■

LED Headlights and Fog Lights

O

ne of the key benefits of today’s range of LED lighting products is visibility, both for your customers while out riding, and for those out sharing the road with your customers. With J.W. Speaker’s LED lineup, there are high visibility options for riders on a broad selection of makes and models.

enjoy the advanced capabilities of the Adaptive 2 Series headlights, which are designed to address poor visibility while cornering. These innovative headlights dynamically provide ditchto-ditch lighting to eliminate dark corners and provide a punch of light more than 450 meters down the road to give a more confident ride. J.W. Speaker’s plug-and-play Adaptive technology allows the light to sense when the bike is leaning so it can redirect the beam to illuminate dark corners. The headlight calculates bank angles on a real-time basis using proprietary technology and on-board sensors, automatically directing the light array up or down as the motorcycle leans.

In offering your customers LED lights that will improve visibility and function, J.W. Speaker has such options as the innovative 8790 Adaptive 2 headlights, as well as the classically styled Model 8720 Reflector LED headlights.

J.W. Speaker also has two different models of reflector-based LED headlights for those customers who want the benefits of LED lighting, but prefer the classic reflector styling. The Model 8720 Reflector LED replaces 18cm round headlights, while the Model 8620 light is an upgrade for 14.5cm found headlights. Both are offered in a two-tone diecast aluminum housing that provides rugged durability and a classic look. The state-of-the-art LEDs make sure your customers can definitely see, and be seen. They are available with either a chrome or a dark chrome retro-styled face.

Customers with select model Harley-Davidsons can upgrade their stock fog lights with the Model 6045 fog lights from J.W. Speaker. These are replacements for bulb-style fog lights that offer great visibility.

Starting out front with the headlight, there are fitments for J.W. Speaker’s 8790 Adaptive 2 headlight for models from BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Triumph, and Yamaha with 18cm (PAR56) round lights thanks to the company’s extensive range of adaptor kits. The fitment kits include all the necessary parts for a quick and easy installation. Once installed, your customers can

Speaker’s Model 6045 and Model 6025 LED fog lights. Both offer superior visibility, extreme durability, and long life. The Model 6045 is an upgrade for bulb-based 11.4cm (PAR36) fog lights and is designed to be compatible with most fog light housings. The Model 6025 is a 10cm round reflectorbased LED fog light designed for motorcycle riders who prefer the classic styling. ■

Playing in the Mud

Clean Solutions for Dirty Conditions

S

ometimes getting muddy is what makes a ride fun, and other times it’s just hard work. Either way, Moose Racing has riders and racers covered with a range of parts that help a bike stay cleaner and perform better in even the muddiest of conditions.

Racers are the ones who especially benefit from Moose Racing mud tire wraps. The wraps are designed to prevent mud from filling in between the knobs before the start of a race – simply put the wraps on in the pits, then push the bike to the starting area so that the tires are still clean when the wraps are pulled off.

The new Moose Racing mud radiator cover is a lightweight silicone cover that installs over the front of the louvres and easily stays put with elastic straps. Both the design as well as the choice of material help keep mud from sticking to the radiator, which can restrict the flow of air. Racers have to get out and compete in any kind of weather, which means that many Grand Prix and U.S.

Those clean tires will help maximize traction at the start of the race and can be a big advantage off the line. The one-size tire wraps fit most full-size dirtbikes, and they are easy to put on and remove thanks to the hook-andloop closure.

Moose Racing’s mud tire wraps keep knobbies mud free for maximum traction off the line.

motocross factory race teams use the mud radiator cover. Moose Racing also has a radiator cap that creates a higher-pressure system compared to a stock cap. The quick swap is a simple, inexpensive way to avoid overheating an engine. Raising the cooling system’s maximum operating pressure increases the coolant’s boiling point, so a dirty radiator is less of a threat to the bike’s operation. Moose Racing’s radiator cap is a universal fit for most Japanese models, and it has high-temperature, corrosion-resistant silicone seals. Paired with the mud radiator cover, it ensures that a bike can keep its cool even in muddy conditions.

MOOSE RACING

Another Moose Racing product that has helped professional off-road race teams around the world deal with grimy conditions is the mud-proof solid rotor. Just like the name says, the rotor is solid, which means that mud can’t get jammed into any small holes or crevices. As an added benefit, the no-hole design significantly prolongs brake pad life. The CAD/CAM laser-cut rotor is made from a high-carbon content stainless steel, which offers greater friction than standard discs for improved stopping power in wet conditions. Riding in the mud can make things really slippery, and not just for the tires. The rider needs to stay firmly in place, too. Moose Racing’s ribbed seat cover helps ensure that a rider stays put no matter how slippery things get. The rubberized material combined with the ribbing provides superior traction in both wet and dry conditions. UV protection guards against the sun, while

double-stitching guards against hard riding. Color options include the major OEM hues. Moose Racing’s foam handguards help create a barrier against debris as well as cold and wind, and they can be used in combination with other handguards. The outer shell of the foam handguards is made from heavy-duty 500 denier nylon with 13mm closed cell foam to keep the elements at bay. Twin grommets on the outside of each guard allow a rider to attach cable ties to provide a more rigid mount. The foam handguards are nearly universal for both off-road bikes and sport quads thanks to a universal cinch-strap mounting style. Moose Racing also has foot peg protectors to keep dirt and mud from packing into the foot peg mounts. No tools are needed for installation, and folding foot pegs aren’t hindered by the protectors, which are made of a lightweight, flexible rubber.

Whether your customers are loading their bikes or getting things back together after a crash, the front and rear lifting straps help get the job done.

When it comes to getting things together after a crash, or even just loading a bike into a truck, it helps to have as many handholds as possible. Moose Racing has both front and rear lift straps made of strong webbing that is thick and easy to grab. The front lift strap mounts to the forks by weaving the webbing through the buckles, and the length is adjustable. The rear lift strap is also adjustable, and elastic tension keeps it snug until it is needed. Strong buckles and bushings ensure the webbing has a strong connection. Multiple sizes of mounting hardware come with each rear lift strap, so it can fit nearly any bike that uses two bolts to attach the seat to the subframe, plus most KTM models with a single under-fender seat bolt. ■

HELMETS

Seeing is Believing

A Helmet that Puts Vision First

C

lear, accurate vision is important in life and critical while riding. Spotting gravel, wet spots and other dangers in the road is a skill that riders hone and rely on to stay safe. So, why not offer your customers a helmet that puts precise vision at the top of the spec chart? AFX’s FX-60 Super Cruise helmet is new for 2020 and brings to market three outside technologies aimed specifically at providing unprecedented visual acuity. For starters, the visor on this versatile ¾ helmet has an Optical Clarity Rating of 1. That’s the highest rating you can get and is the same standard used by fighter pilots and other high-end applications, yet it’s not a rating that’s commonly found on motorcycle helmets. This perfectly clear, distortion-free visor offers a wide field of view and will help reduce your customer’s eye strain and fatigue. Rain reduces visibility, but the FX-60 combats this by integrating a hydrophobic compound into the visor material. Think freshly applied water-repellent products, but baked right into the polycarbonate so it never wears off. That means the FX-60’s shield sheds water like a duck’s back, and it’s a feature that is maintenance free and as durable as the face shield itself. And when it comes to durability, AFX is upping the ante with a MIL-PRF-32432A approved visor. What does that mean? It means this visor will stop a 22-caliber projectile traveling at 724kph according to the company. Or in simpler terms, AFX says this visor will defend your customers’ eyes and face from just about any piece of debris that might fly up off the road, off a car’s tire, or out of the back of a truck. With the new FX-60 your customers get all of these impressive attributes – and that’s just the visor. The rest of the FX-60 is also feature-rich and ready for your customers’ daily commutes or open-road riding. Available in two shell sizes, the FX-60 has two easy-to-operate intake vents and a total of eight exhaust vents to help move hot air away from the head. Bluetooth communicators are increasingly popular in today’s market, and AFX has taken that into consideration when designing the FX-60’s interior. The EPS liner is pre-shaped to accommodate clip-style communicator mounting, and there are extra-large speaker pockets molded into the ear area to make headset installation easier. Other appealing features include a drop-down sun visor, removable and washable cheek pads, and a color choice of Matte Black, Frost Grey, Gloss Black, Dark Wine Red, or White. The new FX-60 Super Cruise helmet is ECE 22.05 approved. ■

The AFX FX-60 Super Cruise is a ¾ helmet that’s designed for excellent visibility and endurance. Its visor is not only distortion-free and exceptionally clear, it’s also tough enough to protect a rider’s face from all types of road debris.

MotoGP Success Equals Better Tires

A

new track surface at Silverstone meant the chance for new lap records during the British GP this year. As the official tire supplier for MotoGP, Michelin knew that no matter which rider set the new record, it would be a victory for Michelin. In qualifying, Marc Márquez snagged the pole with a lap time of 1:59.168 – a whopping 1.7-second improvement over the previous Silverstone qualifying record. Márquez went on to set a new fastest race lap, beating his own 2017 record by 1.6 seconds. Despite his speed, it was Alex Rins who went on to take the checkered flag. While results like that give the Michelin PR team a lot to talk about, those results also garner data that the engineers at Michelin use to create better racing and street tires. The Michelin Power Performance tires are directly derived from all of the lessons learned in MotoGP.

The engineers at Michelin utilize insights learned from MotoGP racing to help develop and improve the company’s range of commercial tires for riders of every type.

As the Michelin Power Slick and Power Rain continue to improve and help MotoGP riders achieve better grip in the wet and dry, these insights from racing also help to improve the commercial product range for all riders. Parts Europe stocks the complete range of commercial Michelin motorcycle tires, including options like the Power RS/+ , Power Slick EVO or Power Rain. Tires like that are able to boost performance on the track or road for riders who demand a top-tier sport tire. The Power RS/+ for street and track is designed to skillfully handle five things that are vital to active riders; grip, acceleration, braking, handling, and flickability. The dual-compound tires include Michelin’s 2CT tread composition on the front tire. On the rear tire, Michelin’s 2CT+ technology enhances tread rigidity and cornering stability by extending the harder center compound underneath the softer compound on the shoulders. For racers, the Michelin Power Slick Evo (NHS marked) offers an exceptional grip level for an intense and long track experience. This tire was designed by the Michelin engineers to aid rapid setup without specific settings. The Michelin Power Slick Evo brings racers the peace of mind of Michelin ACT technology on the rear. Its flexible crown tracks true, and the stiffer sidewalls allow quick and stable steering. The Michelin Power Rain tire is designed to keep a racer competitive even in wet conditions. The specially engineered fountain tread design disperses a maximum amount of water to enhance grip, traction and speed.

Michelin has been in the business of turning racing into research for a long time. In 1974, Michelin introduced its first slick tires. Radial tires hit the scene in 1984, followed by silica-based compounds in 1992 and 2CT dual-compound technology in 2004. (Remember the legendary Pilot Power 2CT?) Michelin will remain the official tire supplier to MotoGP until 2023, so customers will continue to reap the benefits of race tire development at the top tier of motorsports. ■

Andrea Dovizioso waited until the last turn of the race in Austria to snatch victory away from Marc Marquez.

I

t may be true that no one is perfect, but Marc Marquez has been pretty close to it this season. He’s won 8 of the 14 MotoGP races thus far, and runner up in 5 of the other 6 races. Only a spin-out at the Austin, Texas round confirmed he’s still a mortal man, although even there, it was hinted that a technical malfunction on his motorcycle caused him to fall.

After recording the victory on September 22nd at Aragon, Spain, Marquez held a 98-point lead, having scored 300 of a possible 350 points in the first 14 rounds. At press time, there were only five races remaining on the calendar and Marquez is on the verge of clinching his 6th MotoGP world championship. The race now is for second place. ■

he appeal of scooters is hard to overstate. They’re stylish, offer plenty of storage, and of course they’re easy for anyone to operate thanks to their CVT drivetrains. Odds are that many of your customers depend on scooters to get to work, get to school, or just to get around town. Those machines rely on a strong and durable drive belt to provide the seamless twist-and-go functionality that makes scooters so enjoyable. To help keep your customers rolling smoothly Parts Europe is now carrying BOOST drive belts from Gates, in three variations to suit vehicles from 50 to 600cc. machines, the BOOST+ helps maximize acceleration and offers an extended service life on faster scooters. For super high performance, the BOOST DN belt incorporates the latest in high-load, extreme-temperature technologies. Featuring state-of-the-art EPDM rubber, the BOOST DN belt has a 70 percent greater operating range in terms of temperature, so it’s up to the task of transferring big power while operating in a stifling hot engine case. Additionally, double-notch construction drastically reduces surface tension on the backside of the belt while making it more flexible, allowing the BOOST DN belt to handle higher loads and more easily bend around drivetrain pulleys.

Cometic Gasket constantly upgrades and improves what they have to offer and there are some new additions to this extensive M8 lineup. You should know about it all and, naturally, Parts Europe already has it.

The lineup includes innovative gaskets like the no-weld 4.250-inch head-gasket kits that take the added work and cost out of big-bore conversions. There’s also the Aluminum Foamette Material (AFM) replacement oil jet gaskets that help cure oil-pressure/internal-overheating problems, and a full-lineup of Softail-specific gaskets and seals for that engine and its transmission. Parts Europe has them all.

For instance, Cometic has a new M8 rocker box rebuild kit (p/n 0934-6315) that’s designed to correct some issues with the upper rocket gasket leaking. Exhaust system changes are a common swap and Cometic’s new highperformance M8 exhaust gasket kits (p/n 0934-6318) take the worry out of that work. The 6.096mm-thick graphite/ stainless mesh of these gaskets won’t deform and squeeze out into the port.

In addition to such specialty gaskets for big-bore conversions, Cometic has a full range of gasket kits for the Milwaukee-Eight engine and its transmission. The lineup includes everything from rocker box rebuild kits to primary rebuild gasket and seal kits.

However, Cometic’s M8 gasket lineup isn’t limited to those specialty items. The company also has what it takes to gasket, seal and O-ring an M8 engine along with its primary and transmission. The company has full gasket kits, top-end kits, timing-case kits, primary sets, and everything required for transmission service. Anywhere a gasket, seal or O-ring is used on an M8 engine, Cometic has an upgrade in its lineup. Additionally, all the materials used in these gasket kits, seals and Orings have been hand selected to perform exceptionally for the specific application.

The desire for more power and performance often leads to a camshaft change for the Milwaukee-Eight. For that there’s the full Cometic cam change gasket kit (p/n 09346316). And, right along with those engine modifications comes the need for a stronger clutch, which means opening up and then re-sealing the primary. Cometic’s primary rebuild gasket and seal kit (p/n 0935-1031) has everything needed here. ■

Engine Service Made Easier

W

orking on a powersport engine without the right tools can turn an easy job into a mechanical disaster. Without the proper splitters, pullers and compressors, taking an engine apart can cause serious, hard-to-repair damage. What began as a simple rebuild or hot-rod upgrade, can turn into something a lot more expensive. For years professional technicians and experienced homeshop mechanics have turned to Motion Pro for those specialized tools that engine work requires. Granted, these aren’t tools that’ll see daily use, especially in a home garage. However, when they’re needed there are no substitutes. And, because this equipment has that Motion Pro name, techs know they can count on it to perform. Designed especially for powersport applications, everything’s sized right and built tough.

Another must-have is the Dowel-Pin Puller Set. Able to quickly remove everything from slightly stuck to severely frozen pins with a slide-hammer attachment, the kit comes with 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm collets, with more sizes available separately. A storage tray is included to keep it all organized. Work on a small-engine cylinder head gets much easier with a T-6 Valve Spring Compressor. Fully adjustable and powersport sized, the compressor’s quick-release system presses straight against the retainer to eliminate side loading the valve and keepers, and an aluminum lower adjuster won’t damage the valves. SNOW PLOW BLADES

Winter Work Made Easy A New Range of Snow Plows

Often times, plowing snow is an inconvenient fact about winter. Moose Utility Division has a selection of plow blades designed to make the job more efficient and thorough.

inter means it’s time for a lot of fun sports like skiing, snowmobiling and snowboarding, and along with all those recreational pastimes comes another winter activity – plowing. Not nearly as fun as the others, but necessary, plowing can be accomplished with relative ease thanks to Moose Utility Division’s range of re-designed snow plow blades. The push-tube plows come in two designs of various sizes and fit a range of ATVs and UTVs. The blades are constructed of 11-gauge steel and are finished with a matte powder coat, which makes them even tougher against the elements. While the standard color is yellow, Moose Utility Division is offering the black blades in more sizes than in years past. These updated plows have an enlarged back brace and blade over-travel protection. The spring horns and pivot brackets are interlocked to the back brace for a secure fit. Heavy-duty cast skids attach to mounts that are integral to the back brace, providing further stability. No small details have been overlooked; the push tubes now have a gold zinc position assembly for the best corrosion resistance. While the mounting system remains the same as in previous iterations of the snow plow, there are additional holes for the blade position and no more silver stop blocks.

comes standard with the 168cm and 183cm blades, but is sold separately for the other sizes. The county plow blades feature a wing design and a blade curve that guides snow up and away from the surface that is being cleared. The wing measures 66cm tall at its highest point and tapers down to 41cm at the end. The rubber plow flap comes standard to help keep snow from blowing over the edge. Ordering the right snow plow is a matter of four simple steps. First choose the blade style and size, then select the correct bottom mount, push tube and blade lift system. Those last three variables are specific to the ATV/UTV application, so check the charts in the catalog to find the right combination. ■

From Track to Street New Exhausts for the FTR1200

F

lat track racing has been a staple of two-wheeled competition for decades, but until recently had not seen much mainstream acceptance. The recent revival of the Harley-Davidson vs Indian battle of the brands in the United States changed all of that and stoked the fires of popularity, resulting in increased attendance, broadcast coverage, aftermarket sponsorships, and more involvement from OEMs across the board. Key to growth in the space is the return of Indian Motorcycle to the scene in 2017. Partnering with S&S Cycle and creating the purpose built FTR750 race machines, Indian ended the decades old dominance the Harley XR1200 had previously enjoyed. Indian has gone on to dominate virtually every podium at every American Flat Track race since, winning 17 of the 18 races in the 2018 season, and holding eight slots in the current 2019 series top 10 points standings as of press time.

Nearly identical to the actual race exhaust, the high pipes for the FTR1200 are handwelded stainless steel with ceramic insulated shields, and have an exhaust note that’s rivaled only by the race machines that inspired it.

So, what does a big OEM do with that kind of experience? Naturally, they build a production bike and earlier this

Not surprisingly given its close factory connection (Much of Indian’s factory Wrecking Crew works out of the S&S facility in southwest Wisconsin, USA) S&S Cycle has already hit the market with parts for the FTR1200, recently launching a slip-on muffler, as well as a full flat track-styled high pipe. “The FTR is a solid platform and the new exhausts are just the first in a line of S&S performance parts for this bike”, states David Zemla, S&S’s marketing lead. Nearly identical to the actual race exhaust, the high pipes for the FTR1200 are hand-welded brushed stainless steel, and an exhaust note that’s rivaled only by the race machines that inspired it. Tucked tight against the bike, the Grand National two-into-two is a work of art and each is hand built in the same facility and by the same team that creates exhaust systems for the American Flat Track machines.

S&S Cycle’s slip-on exhaust for the FTR1200 is a major upgrade over the chunky OEM setup, providing plenty of style and a healthy performance boost.

year they went live with the Indian FTR1200, a true homage to the company’s factory race efforts. Word on the street is that the FTR1200 is a game changer for the American-made motorcycle market. Is it a standard, a cruiser, a street fighter, a naked bike? The jury is still out, but S&S Cycle thinks the bike might have even created its own whole new category. Reasonably priced, well-engineered and enough power on tap to impress flat track champ Jared Mees himself should make for healthy

Header and muffler heat shields feature additional 6mm ceramic thermal barrier material to protect rider from excessive heat. Also offered in full stainless steel , the new S&S Cycle slipon exhaust eliminates the bulkiness and weight of the factory setup, and adds a race-inspired Grand Nationalstyle endcap, a carbon fiber heat shield and a removable dB reducer that allows the rider to tune the sound of the system. ■

If your customers are after a flashier appearance and improved durability, Pro Circuit’s Platinum pipe offers the same performance gains as the Works pipe, but with nickel plating for improved corrosion resistance. The plating not only adds an element of style, it also reduces maintenance and can extend the life of the pipe by a factor of ten. A reinforced mounting bracket and stinger also improves durability. The finishing touch on any 2-stroke pipe is the silencer, and Pro Circuit offers four choices for the 2020 KTM 300 XC TPI and 2020 Husqvarna TE 300i. For pure performance, the R-304 Shorty or Ti-2 Shorty silencers are the way to go. These compact, race-only silencers are made from choice materials.

As with the R-304, the 304 uses durable E-Glass packing, TIG- and MIG-welded seams, and double-walled mounting brackets. If your customers are headed for the woods, the Type 296 Spark Arrestor silencer is designed to reduce exhaust noise to 96dB on most models while eliminating fire risk from exhaust sparks. Belted Up Right

Choosing Correct Replacements

S

upplying Harley-Davidson riders with belts isn’t as easy as it might seem. For primary drives, the pitch and profile of the belt’s teeth must match those of its pulleys, and pulleys can vary. While the pitch and profile of final drive pulleys is standardized, length can become problematic, especially when the pulleys are changed from OEM.

When replacing a drive belt, it’s critical that the new belt be an exact match to the pulleys on which it will run. BDL replacement belts offer your customers a perfect fit for any application.

In either case – primary or final drive – BDL has the information needed to choose the correct belt, along with the belts themselves. When it comes to primaries, just because a belt is 2-inches wide with a certain tooth count doesn’t guarantee it’ll be the correct replacement for one with those same dimensions. Tooth pitches of 8mm, 8.01mm, 8.3mm or more are common and tooth profiles can be rounded, tapered or flat. Mismatching belts and pulleys will cause a belt to slip, skip and quickly fail. BDL pulleys should always be matched with genuine BDL belts. BDL has belts to fit other pulleys, as well, and your rep can help you here. As for final-drive belts, BDL has made it easy and simple to choose the right length. Check out the easy-to-read chart on the BDL web page, (www.beltdrives.com) to find a list of every conceivable pulley combination and center-to-center distance, along with the proper tooth-count belt for the application. egina celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2019, which means the Italian firm’s history predates the popularity of chain-driven motorcycles. Even so, Regina’s experience as a chain manufacturer extends to when the company initially made freewheels and chains for bicycles. Decades later, when manufacturers like Moto Guzzi and Gilera needed chains for new models, they turned to Regina. Since then Regina has been at the forefront of motorcycling since the sport’s infancy. The latest results of the company’s efforts are aimed at the popular Touring segment. The Touring category has evolved to include motorcycles with Superbike-like power, which means that consumable components also need to perform and be durable.

The Maverick HR is an ideal touring seat for Baggers, while the TailWhip is designed to get a Dyna rider’s adrenaline pumping. The two seats do share a few traits. Both have a steel base that is powder-coated and carpeted, ensuring a perfectly-contoured fit with the motorcycle. They also feature LePera’s specially-poured and formulated highdensity Marathon molded foam for premium comfort. The foam is topped by a stylish, durable BikerTec cover. The Maverick HR builds on the success and comfort of the original Maverick seat. The deeply contoured design provides maximum lower back support, while a tapered mid-section offers an easy stance at a standstill. The seating area includes a width of 38cm for the driver and 34cm for the passenger. The new HR Inlay gives the Maverick HR a custom look, with three inlay and stitching combinations to choose from. The TailWhip seat, in the same family as the Kickflip, is definitely geared toward more adventurous riders.

The Maverick HR provides maximum comfort and support for riders and passengers.

Both seats are designed with contours that encourage non-traditional riding styles. The design ensures that the chain will produce lower friction and have a longer life.

Sunstar’s chain and sprocket kits include everything needed for an upgrade over the stock setup. The kits include the drive sprocket, rear sprocket and chain, all for only one part number.

The Sunstar plus chain kit includes an RTG1 or XTG chain. These premium chains feature Sunstar’s TripleGuard sealed ring technology where there are three sealing lips and lubrication pools per side of the ring, providing consistent protection in even the harshest of environments. Both the RDG and RTG1 chains come in 520, 525 and 530 sizes. The RTG1 is suitable for road racing, while the offroad racing-level XTG comes in smaller 100- and 120-link lengths for motorcycles and ATVs of 750cc or smaller.
