This painting represents the difficult time that we experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a time of uncertainty and fear. At one point, I was so terrified that I wasn’t sure I could live through it. It felt like I was expecting death at any time. The skulls represent the number of deaths that were increasing at an alarming rate in 2020.

This painting represents a very special moment in my life when I was having an exhibition at the Palazzo Franchetti in Venice, Italy, during the Carnevale celebration. It is a moment of joy when many Europeans arrive there and celebrate a beautiful era by dressing up as if they were in the 12th century. People gather at Saint Mark’s square where they dance to celebrate a victory of almost a thousand years ago.
