lex Marshall born February 24, 1998 has become a force of great things to expect. Former St Georges College star boy and current Cavaliers midfielder has been nothing short of rising eyebrows as he continues to demonstrate exceptional skills and growth. His continuous performance and star personality has earned him to be a household name in Jamaica and the region at large. Alex’s passion and love for the game has made him consistence in his performance,whether representing his club or scrimmage with friends. Having a destination in mind of his career in football has kept him grounded and focused on the prize to be won. Being a young star does come with some amount of pressure that often time leads the players feeling burden of others expectations. When asked he said “It’s not easy but when I am on the field I play for myself and my teammates”. In 2016, Alex was given the opportunity to train with German club St. Pauli for 6 weeks. This opened possibilities and experience which he shares “It was a wonderful experience but It took some time understanding the language and adjusting to the culture, climate and food”
This has given him a better understanding in what it takes to get to the next level in his career physically and mentally. In five (5) years, Alex hopes to be selected to represent his country in the FIFA World Cup and to be scouted by an international club in hopes to play in the Champion League. The smart,talented,friendly and vibrant 20 year old, has few goals under his belt but his most memorable goal was 2015 Flow Super Cup Semi Final between Glenmuir High and St. Georges College. Marshall, “At the end of regulation time the scores were locked at 2 all going into extra time, as the captain the my teammates were depending on me to score and when I delivered the winning goal I was overwhelm” Marshall was also awarded the Golden Boats said year and took home the championship. Often times its argued that the picks for the National Team tends to not give local young upcoming talent a chance to prove their worth, leaving the Reggae Boys performance questioned by media.
Alex had this to say “I think once a player is preforming he/ she should be given equal opportunity to make the team, I believe that the person who are currently making those decisions have been taking the right steps in providing that” Alex trains twice as hard as any player or sometimes more, aiming to become stronger, faster and mastering his skills in his profession, so that next time he is called to represent his country locally or internationally he will be at his best.
