HEDRICK BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION:
Building For the Future
By Richard Westlund
Dale Hedrick is building a solid foundation for South Florida’s future. As CEO of Hedrick Brothers Construction, he leads an accomplished team of professionals with extensive experience in serving commercial, education, municipal and luxury residential clients.
“We are a full-service, quality-driven construction management and general contracting firm with a long tradition of excellence,” said Hedrick, CEO of the fast-growing West Palm Beachheadquartered firm. “On every project, we take a proactive, transparent approach to customer service so there are no surprises along the way.”
For more than four decades, Hedrick Brothers Construction has been a leader in South Florida’s dynamic commercial and luxury residential markets. With a talented team and leading-edge technology, the company now has more than 45 projects underway that support the region’s business and residential growth. As its pipeline has grown, Hedrick Brothers Construction has scaled up its operations by opening offices in Pompano Beach and Melbourne.
In Palm Beach County, Hedrick Brothers Construction’s long list of projects includes Class A “sea suites” for corporate headquarters, as well as schools, multifamily buildings, hotels, industrial facilities, automotive dealerships and more. On the luxury residential side, the company serves owners of expansive condominiums, world-class residences, and equestrian estates, completing projects with skill and discretion. “Our ability to serve diverse markets truly sets us apart,” added Hedrick. “We are also known for cost control and schedule adherence—two fundamentals that are essential to owners, as well as our own success.”
Hedrick Brothers Construction takes a partnership approach to every engagement with an open-book policy, so owners can stay informed every step of the way. The company’s full-service approach includes preconstruction, construction management, design-build, general contracting, virtual design and construction, safety, and sustainable construction.
“Our clients benefit from our team being brought in early to establish budgets and to assist the architect and owner with value enhancements,” Hedrick said. “The sooner we are on board, the better the project turns out. We also take care to identify reliable sources of construction materials to avoid supply chain delays.”
A Construction Family Tradition
For Hedrick, construction excellence is a family tradition. His great-grandfather was a contractor in North Carolina. His grandfather, George, was a contractor and moved the family to Lake Worth after World War II. Dale’s father, Charles Lee Hedrick, ran a construction company until the 1970s. “By the time I graduated from the University of Florida, my father had retired, so my brother Paul and I started Hedrick Brothers Construction on January 11, 1979,” said Hedrick, who bought out his brother in 1983.
Through the years, Hedrick Brothers Construction has grown steadily, thanks in large part to referrals from satisfied customers. “I have never worked with another company in any capacity that was as professional, skilled and honest as Hedrick Brothers

Construction,” said James Patterson, author and luxury residential client. “This construction job was large and complicated, and they came in on schedule and very close to the budget estimate.”
In the past two years, the company has continued to deliver commercial and residential projects for its clients without missing a beat, such as Watson Family Hall, a 510-bed student residence building for Palm Beach Atlantic University in downtown West Palm Beach. Hedrick Brothers Construction also works closely with the School District of Palm Beach County, and is building the new Wynnebrook Elementary School in West Palm Beach and conducting a major renovation of Lake Worth High School, where Hedrick’s father once taught. The King’s Academy is another longtime repeat client, and the company is now building a student union and a technology building on the school’s campus.
In the office sector, Hedrick Brothers Construction recently completed the interior and exterior renovation of 205 Datura, creating a Class A five-story office building in downtown West Palm Beach. “I had the pleasure of personally working with the staff, and I have found them to be honest and straightforward in their approach to work and business,” said Douglas W. Brewer, managing director, Morning Calm Management. “I would not hesitate to endorse Hedrick Brothers Construction in consideration of future projects.”
Through the years, Hedrick Brothers Construction has built a loyal clientele in the automotive dealership sector. Braman Motorcars has been a client since 1985, with projects for BMW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce dealerships, and service centers in West Palm Beach and Miami. The company has also partnered with Schumacher since 2012, constructing Infiniti, Lincoln, Volvo, and Subaru dealerships in Delray Beach and West Palm Beach.
Key Advantages for Clients
Back in the 1980s, Hedrick and his team used beepers tostay in touch when managing construction projects on site, andwere early adopters of office computers. Now, the companyuses advanced technology, including virtual design andaugmented reality (AR) headsets to provide clients and designprofessionals with clear 3D renderings of their buildings beforeplans are finalized. “Our virtual design and construction (VDC)platform is a game-changer, solving problems before a shovel hits the ground, so there are no surprises down the road,” said Hedrick. “Our VDC capabilities are also very helpful for organizations seeking to promote their project with donors or other stakeholders.”
Another key advantage Hedrick Brothers Construction brings to the market is its highly talented team. With the addition of 30 new construction professionals in the past year, the company now has 150 full-time employees.
“We pay a great deal of attention to our company’s culture, and strive to provide a workplace where our people feel valued and appreciated,” said Hedrick. “As a result, we have been able to recruit engaged and motivated professionals who appreciate our career opportunities.”
Recognizing the importance of a well-trained construction workforce, Hedrick Brothers Construction has been a statewide leader in supporting the building trades. The company has partnered with area academic institutions to inform and engage young adults about the benefits of the industry.
Hedrick serves on the advisory council for the M.E. Rinker, Sr., School of Construction Management at the University of Florida, and was recently inducted into the school’s “Construction Hall of Fame.” He and other company leaders give guest lectures at the school, and have invited UF faculty to come to West Palm Beach to teach about building information modeling and other leading-edge topics.
Hedrick is also a leader in community and business organizations like the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County (BDB), serving as a trustee and board member. “The BDB does an incredible job of promoting our county, and in helping relocating and expanding businesses implement their projects,” Hedrick said.
Meanwhile, Dale and his wife Cathleen are continuing the family tradition with three sons, Burk, Parker and Cheney, each involved in some facet of the development and construction industry. “I’m proud that they are carrying on a fifth-generation legacy,” said Hedrick. “We all enjoy making dreams come true for our clients.”
