MILLENNIAL PRESIDENT REV. L.K. FLOYD
Question: How does it feel to be the youngest President in the history of the conference? Answer: I am grateful to God and the Missionary Baptist Ministers’ Conference of Washington, DC and Vicinity for their confidence in me to serve as the President of this body. I give God the glory, the honor, and I am extremely humbled to serve the clergy who I believe are great leaders within their own right whom I admire and have a tremendous level of respect for. As you know, I am the first Millennial to lead an organization of this nature in the country. Our conference is nearly 135 years old and is as strong now as it has ever been. I have had great moments as well as learning curves while serving in the Office of President. I have learned a lot about people, God and myself all which have made me a better person. My late Pastor Rev. Rice, who was the Pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church of Washington, DC told me at the beginning of ministry that I would one day be the President of the conference but as a teenager I could not fathom that.
I would be remiss if I did not pause and thank God for my current Pastor Rev. Dr. John M. Alexander Jr. (Pastor of St John United Baptist Church, Washington, DC) for being a great guide throughout this journey and process of becoming the President. In addition, I have had several persons that have helped me from a mentoring perspective such as Rev. Maxwell Washington and Rev. Freddie Davis just to name a few.
Question: How did the conference grow or expand under your leadership? Answer: During this administration, we have had many members, reinstate their membership at The Ministers’ Conference as well as we have had a record number of new members join the conference. We also engaged the community through our Civic & Social Action Committee L.E.G.A.C.Y EDITION

like former administrations, but we expanded the topics and addressed many of the issues that our community is facing today, such as Social Injustice, Police Brutality, and Domestic Violence just to name a few. We have had numerous politicians from local to National to join us for not just conversation but mobilization for causes. During our Domestic Violence, we had a workshop in the Partner Progressive Life Center and on that day, we had 25 groups that address Domestic Issues come together with numerous survivors which has created a unique community partnership. In addition, we sponsored several Black Economic Symposiums that focused on empowering the community and church in the area of Buying Black, Banking Black and Birthing Black. Some of the highlights from the Symposiums included job fairs with some of our partners like Stoddard Baptist Home and the Chair for the Symposium Dr. William Bennet helped create a meaningful relationship with the Black Chamber of Commerce and Home Free. Other initiatives that I instituted during my tenure were the National Initiative idea, Project Keep Your House, The Economic Symposiums which reached the attention of the news media and we were featured on Fox 5 evening and nightly news.
In addition, we created a strategic partnership with Stoddard Baptist Home & Global Understand Leadership by C.E.O. Steve Nash to secure our relationship by having every President from my administration forward as a member of the Advisory Board of that great institution. In November we instituted the John W Davis Veterans Day which was our first Veterans Day Celebration. We have strengthened our relationship with the Washington Baptist Theological Seminary under the leadership of Dr. John McCoy. This is an institution from which a great number of our conference members have graduated including my late Stepfather Rev. L.E. Anderson. L.E.G.A.C.Y EDITION

MILLENNIAL PRESIDENT REV. L.K. FLOYD CONTINUED… As President, in 2018 we raised more than ten thousand dollars in scholarships to give to graduating seniors under our Chair Dr. Alton Jordan and we are granting scholarships in the name of Maxwell M. Washington & John Jaspers Nicholas (both former Presidents of the conference) for recipients to attend Washington Baptist Theological Seminary
Why legacy as the theme or focus of your tenure as President? The theme Legacy is not centered around my own “Legacy” because I’m 33 years old and my Legacy has yet to be imagined. Yet the them L.E.G.A.C.Y is applicable for the rich history of our conference and those great men of the past who have paved the way for us today. I want the readers to understand that following the Civil War , the fight for equality during the Civil Rights Movement and now this current error. The acronym L.E.G.A.C..Y stands for Leadership-developing strong leaders , Education developing and educating clergy, Growing Partnerships with businesses, organization, political community and other faith-based organizations, Accountability, and You - Focusing on the people. It is a call to remember to preserve the past and press toward the future. For any institution to be healthy it’s important to focus on the foundation and operate from there forward. Although we are in the 21st Century it’s important to yes bring new ideas and innovation we must not forget the Purpose of our organizations nor forget our Predecessors and the contributions of those who have came before us.
What’s next for L.K. Floyd? Well what’s next? I am going to focus on my immediate church family. I love my congregation they have been very supportive of me in everything that I do. I started Pastoring at 21 years old and my church family has been with me in good and bad as well as in many transitions in life. So, I will be devoting more of my time to the wonderful people that I Pastor at Heart Changers Baptist Church. Also, I am looking forward to what God has in store for me. L.E.G.A.C.Y EDITION

MILLENNIAL PRESIDENT REV. L.K. FLOYD CONTINUED… I am currently serving as Third Vice President of National Capital Baptist Convention as well as the local association. I plan to serve faithfully in those organizations. I was recently recruited to serve as CEO of T.E.A.C.H. Mission under the leadership of Missionary Clarence Brock & Dr. De Brock starting with Winneba Africa. The work includes building a School K-12, Visitors Center and in 2020 I will be traveling Winneba to Set Aside Heart Changers Baptist Church #2 Ghana. In addition to the ministry I am learning Tang Soo Doo which is a Korean Style Martial arts under Master Kevin Graves and I am looking forward to participating in fighting tournaments as I develop in skill. I also plan to travel across seas to learn more about this style of martial arts. More importantly, I am focusing on family life meaning marriage and family and I am engaged to be married in 2020 to Deaconess Comisha Rhodes. In closing, I am looking forward with great expectation of the future, even though I have already served for 18 years in public ministry. I feel that I’ve done a lot in these last years, yet I realize that I have only scratched the surface. Listen, I may not know what to expect, but I do know God is in control. Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans of a man but the Lords will prevails.”
