Construction of the church began in 1882 and Gaudi took over a year later. Today it is Barcelona’s most famous landmarks .

The Architect

Antoni Gaudi is known for nature-inspired designs and worked on the ambitious church until his death.

The most notable example of biomorphic architecture within the Sagrada Familia is that the branching columns of the nave. The columns are slightly inclined toward the inside within the central nave. The number of sides for each column depends on the load it must carry and increases because the column rises. The design mimics the natural weight distribution of trees, allowing each column truly a greater load than a standard column.

Concept

The interior appears more majestic and mysterious that the outside. Its ample use of irregular shapes and a mind-bending vault system is very imposing and should take your time to require in. It’s a robust affinity to a jungle, albeit a concrete one.

Sagrada Familia was based on the traditions of Gothic and Byzantine cathedrals. It has got the form of latin cross and the concept design is cubism.

One of the Antoni Gaudi’s main idea of sagrada familia in terms of creating a visual satisfaction is to implement the idea of tree branch and sunlight. He designed the columns and arches this way to fit into the light shine from the skylight to create the tree-branches and sunlight effect.

Prototype Design

The technology plays an important role in development of Biomorphism from ancient to its relevance in modern world. Understanding it through analysis and case-study has helped me to return all the way down to designing a prototype. Analysis was that specialize in precedent studies originated in nature, where design properties, design intentions and parameters were identified.

Leaf : Plant Metaphor

A leaf may be a organ of a plant and is that the principal lateral appendage of the stem, usually born above ground and specialized for photosynthesis. Initially analyzed how leaf has different layers of pattern and texture formed when twisted.

This project is about redesigning a derelict building; the former Engine house, situated opposite the entrance of the new Museum of London. The Engine house is situated on the junction of Smithfield street and West Smithfield street, opposite the West Poultry avenue. It is a small one storey triangular building, built in 1898 by Reeves and Styche.
