The Basin Circuit Design Studio4 (Spring 2021) CAP Studio

The project is located in Long Island City near the east river on anable basin, being next to the river and having a ferry route passing through the site we opted for having a ferry station on the south west that would serve as the main access from Manhattan to our project. The concept is

Ground Level

based on the connectivity between the Facility and its surroundings, connecting the site to the South West and South East of Anable Basin. This connection is possible through the creation of a bridge that connects the ferry station located on the south west to the WTE facility, where such bridge suddenly becomes a series of exterior and interior ramps surrounding the building from the bottom all the way to the roof, creating a circuit that gives access to all the different program inside the Facility.

Offices

The project is divided into 2 volumes, near the river shore the WTE is located and the other half is for the REC facility having a void between them where the access and circulation for the trucks happens, this way the waste and recycles can be divided accordingly, between the ramps on the south east we located our greenhouse. For the greenhouse we opted to have to different schemes, on the top of the building is a botanical garden and in this level the greenhouse works a hydroponic farm, where lettuce and other greens grow, the idea of this is that any people,

Botanical Garden

for example local establishments can take their waste and in exchange they get the products grown, which turns this into a circuit, the waste is converted into energy, the energy is use in the greenhouse to function. Above the offices we have a botanical garden/cafe that can be accessed from the exterior ramp or also from the roof. Greenhouse

Housing

The project is loacted in Farragut housing community, Brooklyn. Housing community for us was an amalgamation of connectivity, interactions and amenities.Usage of playful corridors, getting the sense of ground interaction on upper levels along with some co working spaces, balconies,

Ground Level

gardens and play areas. The horizontal shift was even incorporated into the program division , where the housing units are placed at the periphery along with circular core throughout. Connecting the units in both our towers with external and internal common corridors, amenities and existing buildings at alternate levels. It focuses on the concept of connective shifts, by exploring tectonic shifts in vertical and horizontal planes to connect existing Farragut houses and our building. Usage of tectonic shift concerns with amalgamation of common spaces and integrate the communal language of residential housing. The idea of this connective shift is to connect the towers and existing buildings with walk over corridors incorporating

Sixth Level

co-working spaces at alternate levels and the sense of ground interactions on upper levels including amenities like game room, gym, library, conference room etc.Our housing units allow users from single users (students) to family. Units are in peripheral formation joined by common corridor spaces and communal workspaces. The idea of connective shift was more focused towards connecting existing Farragut houses and our proposed towers that funnel out paths or a walk over corridors at alternate levels. Created connection fusion is connected from one tower each where the existing building unit gets an extended extra room. Ninth Level

The project focuses on the idea of fluid and flexible interactive space. Focusing more on dependent and interdependent connection of functions. Keeping the ground level more open and fluid.I started with three main towers and gave the building a floating identity. Where the main functions and programs start from level 2 and level 1 becomes an open fluid space along with the three towers. The middle tower being the main entrance having main vertical circulation. Other 2 towers have the vertical circulation that goes around and through the building.

Artist Residence Design Studio1(Fall 2019) Media and methods

Project deals with concave and convex surfaces of different materials with the idea of ruinous, one being hard and other being soft . Silicon being flexible gave the opportunity to use external forces to create spaces and surfaces from defined plastered cast. Branching out to create circuits and loops similar to the way a nervous system works in a body. The material sense of continuity in different angles and axis form continuous circuits. Voids and pockets form experiential and functional spaces that

SECTION A

get connected to the solid form of the circuits. The idea of circuits and loops works along the varied axis, giving a sense of monolithic assembly of pieces. Flow of such surfaces and spaces created programmatic interiors and exteriors. Expansion and compression of casting produce continuity in vision perspective as well as in the interior spaces. The formation of continuous network defines the speed of movement in multiple directions. Focusing on the death ends, curved and flat surfaces and pockets

SECTION B

becomes the ground for the change in movements of different bodies(static and dynamic movement). Light and shadow also plays an important role in defining the circuits. Spaces created between the materials and air is a part of such circuits that varies depending on the solid material pieces. These spaces thus have varied light type acting on the space to define the spatial character at that point. Formation of such experiential spaces provides opportunities to not just experience but even provides

visual connections of circuits and materials.

Connection between the spaces with different programs defined the objects interiors and exteriors according to the program and material usage. Use of the photo texture projector helped to find how the different materials would reflect the colours and textures. Whereas, in the digitalising the surface texture, it showed how the whole structure would be reflecting the surface inside and outside. This also created spaces with varied light intensity to define the spaces with the surfaces formed. LEVEL 1

The interior parts are intergration of geometric variations modified in all the three axis. The depht of each and every frame are colour coded with materials and lights. The amalgamation of colours in terms of material and lights are synced in harmony of each other displaying the coloured textured and coloured lightings.
