BIO

Urja Patel wants to help people live their best life by making their space best work for their individual needs. Everything she looks at makes her think of better, more creative, and more functional solutions. She has an associate’s degree in interior design as well as certificate in interior design computer applications and kitchen and bath design. Additionally, she has obtained an associate’s degree in cosmetology. She helps clients by listening to their needs, and she can combine others’ visions and her own style into one. She has also worked with a landscape designer which gives her an advantage in incorporating indoor-outdoor spaces. She has experience in residential kitchen, dining, and living room remodeling.

- Scandinavian mixed with contemporary, clean lines with brown and black colors.

- Three different varieties of seating heights bar height, ADA accessible, and nook bench seating will suit everyone’s needs.

- Fully equipped appliances for the kitchen with Sub-Zero steam oven and refrigerator for a healthier life Moreover, the appliances will accommodate all heights

- Wayfinding is very simple with clean lines and ADA clearance.

- Adding curves and textures in furnishings and finishes to give a soft and inviting feel with all the straight lines.

- Using comfortable, sustainable, and easy-to-maintain materials throughout the space to make the cleaning process less stressful.

- Customized millwork will makes the space very balanced and luxurious

- Smart technology will make the kitchen high-end and easy to work in. Dimmable switches will make the eyes feel at ease.

Using kitchen and bath measurements.

Creating a shell and adding the right dimensions and angle.

Designing the layout to code, adding furniture, fixtures, symbols, labels, and dimensions. Every layer has different details based on the document specifications. Creating elevations and sections with dimensions.

Bringing the construction plan, floor plan, mechanical plan, electrical plan, and elevations into the layout at 1/2” scale.

Adding north arrow, section, and elevation symbols where necessary.

Rendering preferably at eye level, adjusting the light and pixels and adding them to the layout.

Built in Chief Architect and rendered in Ray Trace.

Starting in black model space, creating a building shell using the line tool by starting at a point and entering the measurement of the wall, and so on.

Using the offset tool to create wall thickness depending on the standards.

Using array tool to create evenly spaced columns by entering the dimension for how far apart they are supposed to be.

Keeping all the lines stacked on the same plan but having it on different layers with different colors.

Using other tools like ortho, osnap, move, trim, scale, stretch, explode, mirror, filler, arc, rotate, etc. to finish the drawing.

Bringing the drawings into paper space and, based on the plan, the layers can be turned on and off.

Adding text in model space and dimensions in white model spaces keeps the project clean and organized.

Creating orthographic and isometric drawing by using the isoplane left, top, and right tools.

Drafted floor plan shell, architectural details, and furniture plan to scale. Purged, prepped, and placed the model on layer zero to be imported into Sketchup.

SketchUp

Built 3-dimensional model starting with the walls, doors, and windows. Built custom kitchen island and fireplace.

Imported furniture and decor from 3D Warehouse and modified components. Created top, axonometric, and section views.

V-Ray

Applied and edited materials to obtain realistic scale and texture. Set up camera views and rendering settings to accurately represent the design.

Imported renderings and removed the background. Scaled linework above rendering to give it more structure.

Added lighting effects using the brush tool.

Edited and erased minor imperfections. Applied finishes like shadow, bump map, light, etc.

Adjusted image tone and brightness. Built in Autodesk AutoCAD, exported in to SketchUp, and rendered in V-Ray.

Project Requirements

Using object styles, working with visibility and graphic overrides, hiding and isolating objects in a model, and using view templates.

Creating a key schedule, detail callouts, a new family from a template, custom based wall type, wall sweeps and reveals, and model lines. Using the linework tool, cutaway views, graphic display options, images in schedule, arrays to parametrically duplicate objects, reference planes, parameters, and constraints.

Understanding view extents and crop regions, view range, room bounding elements, tags, families, and stacked walls. Adding rooms, controlling room numbering, schedule views, text, dimensions, symbols, legend views, detail components, filled and masking regions, solid geometry, blends, railings to stairs, extensions to railings, curtain grids, mullions, and panels.

Completing the family, cutting holes using void geometry, and modifying schedule views. Displaying objects above and below in plan views. Working with component based stairs, sheets, placeholder sheets, aligning views with a guide grid. Exporting, AutoCAD DWG files, plotting, and printing to PDF.

Design Concept

The residential design for Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Stewart is focused on aging in place, customer design detail, and functionality The design solution uses technology and ADA requirements to achieve the clients’ needs. The resolution incorporates remote access to lights and blinds to illuminate hazards, furniture with curved edges to lessen life-threatening injuries, an open floor plan for easy access to the areas, and natural light. Due to the limitations of windows in the space, adding open partitions always access to natural light throughout the space, as it is an important part of the space. Additionally, durable and sustainable finishes on fabrics and furnishings make them long-lasting. To meet requirements, the area was divided into four different rooms with architectural details including custom built-ins, hallways, a modern open and wood panel wall separating spaces, a green wall, and a reading area.
