basic art education The aim of course is to support design issues and principles with their theoretical underlines, using them in practice in different compositions by starting with the basic techniques like line and point. In the final part of the program, in the concept of meaning and form they become a project, by reworking object and space relations supported by old projects.

basic design studio The aim of the course: *Developing a common design language. (Using the method of ''abstraction'') *Perceiving the environment with its natural and artificial elements. *Developing methods for understanding and interpreting the city through concepts and social and physical facts. *Creating a base for exposition techniques of expressing creative ideas freely. *Developing a thought system for understanding, perceiving and expressing the city through concepts and facts. And transforming this thought system into a language, which can be used in every level of urban planning.

The course forms the first step to planning education. The main aim is to acquaint the student with the social and physical dynamics, potentials and problems of the urban space and to introduce the techniques and practices of spatial analysis. In this context spatial and architectural texture of Istanbul’s Historical Peninsula was analyzed using Kevin Lynch’s methodology mentioned in the book ‘’The Image of the City’’. So image analysis maps and architectural booklets were prepared in Planning Studio I.

academic courses third midterm planning studio II Planning Studio II, where the students meet practical issues of planning for the first time plays an important role. As development paradigm and welfare state -which are the starting point of traditional planning- leave their place to globalization process, urban planning have to redefine its methodology and contents. In this changing context, the planner profile, who is working as a technician for public and who must solve the conflict of public and private interest, have to change and redefine. In the context of public-society conflict that is examined, starting from the reality of public (state) interest can be against society, the relation between public and private interest must be re-examined and society interest must be highlighted. Contemporary planner has to play a role in a system which lets all parts of the society participate and interact. The planner should carry a variety of missions such as, starting the process, submitting the long term visions to the society, guiding in order to reach the democratically defined vision, creating choices via technical knowledge, reconciling the groups, bargaining and promoting the plan in case. In this context a small town of Istanbul, Agva was chosen as the project area. Spatial, social and economic analyzes were made on a vast scale for Agva. Firstly, we made general analyzes like defining demographic, natural, historical structure of Agva and its position in the city and relationships with other settlements, then we prepared detailed land use, image analysis and functions maps.

In Planning Studio III, as a continuation of Planning Studio II, we experience the area with three different workshops (social, economic and ecologic) and a planning workshop as a final project. So we made more detailed analyzes on these thematic approaches, then determined a strategy and made plans for Agva.

As an extension to "Spatial Environment Planning" and "Applications in Architecture" units, this course aims to study spatial analysis in urban space and residential areas. The unit aims to help identifying issues related to housing and urban spaces, to gain technical drawing experience and to develop understanding of scale and a vision concept. In this context, I chose one of Istanbul’s historically intertwined district, Karakoy as a project area. Firstly, I analyzed historical structure of the settlement, chose prominent monumental key buildings, categorized them according to their architectural period, and then designed new public spaces which are suitable for urban character of the project area.

The aim of the course is to study an implementation project of current land use planning process of Turkey with the contribution of the next term Studio, Planning Studio 5. During the semester the aim is to study the process of planning with the steps of analyze, synthesis and evaluation within the framework of current situation of a chosen city (population between 20.000 – 50.000) In this context we studied in a typical Anatolian City, Kastamonu. After staying here for one week, we made SWOT analysis, buildings, parcels and blocks based GIS analysis.

academic courses fifth midterm urban design

The aim of the unit is to enable students to take part in a debate on the location and to teach the role of urban design from urban planners' perspective. Within the framework of the planning, discussing the reorganisation and design relations, definition of urban design. Presenting students principles of organising physical environment that is necessary for creating design guides and urban design used as a tool in different dimensions. In this context we chose Kadıkoy district, as the project area. Firstly we made spatial analysis, then reorganized the shoreline of Kadıkoy.

2010 summer practice
coreldraw & photoshop practice I attended a summer course for urban planning students in Middle East Technical University which is one of the wellestablished university in Turkey. The aim of the course is to improve student’s technical ability in computer aided design programs like Autocad, 3Ds Max Studio, CorelDraw and Photoshop. So we did basic brochures, posters and so on.

‘’Being ’in between’ in Beyoglu’’ workshop was about a conceptual approach to Beyoglu’s streets, squares, passages and arcades. In this workshop we analyzed one of the most crowded and alive district of Istanbul, Istiklal Avenue. In my project, I aimed to connect Beyoglu’s different passages -that have different characteristics- to each other. Thus an alternative trip route to Istiklal Avenue was defined.
