Group and private lessons are available for both children and adults from beginner to advanced levels, weekdays and weekends to fit your schedule. Trail Rides - Guided trail rides at the walk on wooded trails in historic Wilderness Battlefield. The trails pass right next to Civil War trenches and fortifications. Parties of up to four can be accommodated. Weight limit 200 lbs.

Summer Camps
Equestrian Camp. There are six weeks of beginner/advancedbeginner camps open to ages 6 years and older and one week advanced camp for those who take weekly riding lessons. Advanced campers MUST BE ABLE to walk/trot and canter. Beginner camps are an hour and a half of riding with an hour and a half of theory/hands-on stable management! We believe this fosters a more complete experience for each camper. Each session has 12-14 campers so that each camper will receive the maximum amount of instruction. There will be two groups of 6-7 for the camp and they will rotate once during the morning between the riding session and the stable theory session. Children should be dropped off at the Equestrian Center at 8:30 AM and picked up at 12 PM. All children MUST have some type of boot with heels. NO SNEAKERS. We have helmets for campers. You can send your child with a snack and a water bottle. Please label everything your child brings. Please do not arrive any earlier then 8:25 AM to drop off campers. Return completed registration forms to the Holcomb Building or Equestrian Center; or mail to Lake of the Woods Equestrian Center c/o LOWA, 102 Lakeview Pkwy, Locust Grove, VA 22508. If you have questions, please call 540-972-2238. Beginner Camps: A hands-on equestrian experience for children 6 years and older who have little or no background with horses, as well as more advanced riders. Campers will be divided into riding groups based on their experience. (14 students per session). Camp weeks: June 20-24; June 27-July 1; July 4-8; July 25-29; August 1-5; August 8-12 Monday-Thursday, 8:30 AM to 12 PM and Friday 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Friday Show begins at 10:30 AM and end around 12 PM. Cost: $300 per LOWA Member, $350 per Nonmember* (includes T-shirt). Advanced Camp is open to campers who take weekly lessons (8 students a session) Camp: July 11-15, from 9-11:30 AM daily. Cost: $250 per LOWA Member, $300 per nonmember (includes T-shirt) No refunds after May 31 without a doctor’s note. *Please note that a nonmember is anyone not in the immediate family, i.e. friends, of a homeowner or member of LOWA. Your membership card may be required at any time. If possible, we recommend you send a copy with the application. Junior Golf Camp. Lake of the Woods Golf Professional Rea Hargraves will be teaching two beginner golf camps on June 27-July 1 and July 18-22. Both classes are for beginners. Students will learn putting, chipping, pitch shots, sand shots, irons and woods. Golfers will be exposed to basic rules of golf, etiquette, and pace of play. Classes meet 45 minutes daily. Class participants will receive a golf shirt, a certificate of completion and attend a party at Sweetbriar Park on Friday afternoon. The first class meets at the Pro Shop; all other classes are held a Sweetbriar Park. Cost is $50. Children ages 7-15 are eligible for camp; 10 students per
class. Classes are held at 9 AM. For either of the beginner classes you must sign-up and have ordered your golf shirt by June 20. All participants are eligible to attend the LOWA Junior Golf Championship/Junior Golf Tournament on July 30 at 1:30 PM. Advanced Golf Class is offered August 1-5 for 45 minutes daily with six students. This class will address individual players’ areas that need improvement in their game. Cost is $50. Come join the fun of one or several of our energy-filled summer dance camps or clinics in the Clubhouse Lower Leve! Ages 3-5 Groove & Move Dance Camp. July 11-15, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Let your little ones enjoy the fun of creative movement, pre-ballet, mini-hip hop and more while you enjoy a few hours off! Cost is $75. Ages 5-8- Mix It Up! Beginner Dance Camp. LOW Tennis Juniors “DRILLS AND GAMES” is a free children’s tennis clinic held at Hollyfield Park Tennis Courts. Clinics are led by our Tennis Pro Billie O’Neil. There are two opportunities: June13-14 and August 15-16 from 9:30-11 AM for ages 6-10. June 15-16 and August 22-23 from 9:30-11 AM for ages 11 and up. All participants must be registered. LOWSC Junior Sailing Camp is for youths ages 8-15, who are able to swim and interested in learning to sail in a safety-conscious, confidence building, and fun environment. We will be holding two camps this year, and both camps are designed for beginners/novices. Beginners start out in Optimists and advance according to their skill and comfort level to Sunfish and/or Lasers. All campers must wear a swimsuit and Coast Guard approved and (appropriately sized) lifejacket, a whistle, and closed-toe water shoes. Sunscreen is required and bottled water plus a snack are highly recommended. Camp weeks: June 20-24 and June 27-July 1, daily 8 AM to Noon at Sailboat Beach. Cost is $175. Registration: We are limited to 14 campers per class and accept campers on a first-come first-served basis. Prior to completing an application, please contact Bob Oldach at Robert. The Sailing Camp application and Liability Release and Medical Authorization Agreement forms are available at the Holcomb Building and the Community Center. Completed applications and Liability Release/ Medical Authorization Agreements should be left at the Holcomb Building, payment due upon receipt of the camp application to ensure your reservation, checks payable to LOWSC. If there is a delay in obtaining completed and signed Liability Release/Medical Authorization Agreement Form please notify Bob Oldach. These form(s) may be submitted later, however, insurance coverage requires us to have a signed Liability Release/ Medical Agreement Authorization in order for a camper to attend class. For security reasons a parent or guardian is required to check in and later pick up their sailor at the check-in table located on the walking trail behind the basketball court (left of the swimming pool/Fitness Center building). Soccer Camp Orange Recreation Association is bringing the #1 Soccer Camp to LOW, British Soccer Camp! Campers will receive a free T-shirt and ball. Super Sitter A babysitter and mother’s helper training course is being sponsored by the Lake Youth Foundation (LYF). Students will learn safety training with lessons in First Aid and CPR, how to handle babies with confidence, practice discipline and learn fun activities that children will enjoy. Camp is designed for ages 11-15. Registration forms are available at LakeYouth.org. Register by August 1. Camp is held August 18-19, in the Community Center at Sweetbriar Park from 9 AM to 12:30 PM. Swim Lessons Virginia Pool Services is offering swim lessons at Lake of the Woods this summer. Learning to swim is a lifesaving skill which will help your child become more comfortable in the water. We are happy to say we’ve seen every child finish their session with improved skills and more confidence. Group lessons and private lessons will be available. Registration forms will be available at both Sweetbriar and Clubhouse pools on opening weekend. To hold your child’s place, please make your payment at the time of registration. Level 1: Water Exploration: The objective of Level One is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Students will learn elementary water skills which they can build on as they progress through the various levels. Level 2: Primary Skills: Level Two is to give students success with fundamental skills and learn to float without support. Level 3: Stroke Readiness: Students learn to coordinate front and back crawl. Introduce elementary backstroke and fundamentals of treading water. Private Lessons: One 30-minute session is $30. Four 30-minute sessions is $100. Private lessons are available upon request; dates and times will be coordinated with the instructor’s schedule. Duo Lessons: One 30-minute session is $25 each. Four 30-minute sessions is $120 each. Group Lessons: (Minimum of four children) is $120 a session Sessions: June 20-30 July 11-21 July 25 to August 4 August 8-18. *Classes are held Monday through Thursday; Fridays are a make-up day if lessons have to be canceled due to inclement weather. For safety reasons classes will not exceed six children. Classes are first-come first-served. Water Fitness Water work-outs are the best! The benefits of exercising in the water are many—the resistance from the water enhances each and every movement made, there is little impact on joints and the water keeps one cool and comfortable during the work-out. If you haven’t tried water exercise, this is a great time to start! The Lake of the Woods Water Fitness program begins Monday, June 13, and continues through Friday, August 26. The one-hour classes are held at the Clubhouse Pool on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:50 AM and 10 AM. Cost for a season pass is $125 or a daily drop-in fee is $7 a class. All necessary equipment is provided by LOWA. Registration will take place starting at 8:30 AM on Monday, June 13 at the Clubhouse Pool. Make checks payable to Carol Greeney with Water Fitness on the memo line. All participants, season pass holders or drop-Ins, must complete a registration form. Crocheting and Knitting If you are interested in learning a new craft and always wanted to try your hand at knitting or crocheting, why don’t you try this class? In knitting you will learn how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. In crocheting you will learn how to make a basic chain, single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. If you need help with a project, new or something you are stuck with let’s see if we can figure it out together! We meet in the Community Center on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 AM to Noon. Each class is $5, unless you commit to five classes, then it’s $20. Each class gives the participant the opportunity to work different muscles to improve overall while making classes fun and beneficial. We do stretching, balancing, gain strength with weights and dyna-band straps, mat work for flexibility, gentle aerobics for strength and stamina, as well as Tai Chi for individual coordination. We meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Multipurpose Room at the Community Center from 12:30pm – 4:30pm. When weather permits, we play on our outdoor courts in the morning. No fee. Tae Kwon Do The Lake of the Woods Tae Kwon Do “Lake Tigers” practice at the Community Center every Tuesday and Thursday at 7 PM for ages 8-11; at 8 PM for ages 12 through adult. There is no yearly contract to take lessons. The classes are taught in 8-9 week sessions and paid for when taken. This provides more flexibility to participate. Cost is $99 per 8-10 week session with a discount for multiple family members. Uniform cost is extra. First session is discounted. Yoga for improved Health Reduces stress and anxiety, strengthens muscles, enhances moods and can be helpful with easing chronic pain. Studies have convinced cardiac experts that yoga and meditation may help reduce many of the major risk factors of heart disease.
