HOUSE CORPORATION AND PARENTS’ CLUB ROLES The House Corporation and the Parents’ Club work together with the goal of making your daughter’s Phi Mu experience as pleasant as possible. The House Corporation takes care of the structural and utility needs of the building, pays the workers and other house bills, and collects room and board payments as its primary source of income. The purpose of the Parents’ Club is to help make improvements that are not possible through the House Corporation, and to support the tutoring fund. The primary source of income for this group is annual dues ($50) and the spring Moms’ Day auction. The Parents’ Club maintains a Facebook page and plans to mail at least one newsletter per semester to keep parents apprised of happenings at the Purdue Phi Mu house. You can reach the House Corporation Board president, Sue Spiker, at spike66@frontier.com.

Recruitment finished up on September 15. 38 girls accepted bids to join the house.

Welcome back to all our Phi Mu parents, especially those of our 38 brand new Phis! School is back in full swing, and our daughters are gaining both knowledge and new friends, in large part due to their participation and involvement in Phi Mu. I hope that all of you, new parents and old, get a chance to tour the place they call “home” at 201 Waldron Street; you will be so impressed by the loveliness of the house and by the welcoming nature of the girls who live there. Special thanks go out to the Phi Mu house Corporation board, which continues to manage the house and provide a safe, nurturing place for our daughters to live. I want to thank our Parents’ Club board members (listed in this newsletter) for their help in getting our year started off so well. We were able to meet with the girls on the Executive Board and with House Corporation board members in August to discuss matters of importance to our girls. We will continue to fund tutoring, provide food during recruitment lock-in weekends, and help fund projects I the house agreed upon by all boards mentioned above. Please take the time to read this newsletter thoroughly, including the list of important dates. Feel free to contact your Parents’ Club board members if you have questions, and do try to attend both Dads’ Day this fall and Moms’ Weekend in April. We on the Parents’ Club board all look forward to meeting you soon! Mimi Brookie President, Phi Mu Parents’ Club

Philanthropy Fall is always a busy time for philanthropy and we are super excited for all the events we have lined up. The main event that we are holding is Miracle Mania. This event is basically a giant dance competition between all the different sororities and fraternities on campus. The sororities and fraternities are paired up and they come up with various dance numbers to perform. We are holding this event in early November at LOEB theatre in the Stewart building. Miracle Mania is open to the whole Greek community as well as to the rest of Purdue’s campus, and we always have a fantastic turn-out. The teams have other fundraising opportunities and events throughout the weeks leading up to the competition to earn extra points towards their overall score. The team with the highest score wins the bragging rights and an awesome trophy. This event has always been very successful and we are all very excited to see what this year will bring. Another event we are very involved in during the fall is PUDM. The majority of the house participates each year to raise money for Riley Hospital for Children. Each year there is a competition called Greek Cup, which is a competition between the Greek houses to see who can raise the most money for Riley. We have won the Greek Cup 3 years in a row now and hope to win it again this year! Last year we raised $32,000 for PUMD! Hopefully we will raise this much again, if not more. And this year we even have one of our seniors, Alyssa Fields, on the executive board for PUMD, which is really exciting. Finally, the last event we currently have in the works is talking to Riley Hospital about coming and visiting the children at the facility sometime this semester. A few of the girls in the house have connections with Riley and have been Riley patients themselves. Fingers crossed everything pans out and we are able to go to the hospital. Seeing what all of our donations are going to will help further motivate us and give us the inspiration to keep raising money for this amazing organization. Sydney Owens, Philanthropy Chair

MEET DONNA TIGER: Our fantastic new housemother is from Attica, Indiana. She is the mother of four children and a true boilermaker. She is a big

supporter of

women’s basketball and attends all of the games! Before coming to live with us she was the housemother of Pi Beta Phi. She is a Phi Mu from Purdue and is happy to be back at her home with all of us! We like to call her Mama Tiger, so feel free to as well! Please stop by and meet her next time you’re at the house. We really enjoy her and love all of the hugs we get when we go to chit chat in her office!

Hello from your new treasurer, Susan Billlman! Question: Who is responsible for this famous quote, “You educate a man; you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation.” And the answer is Brigham Young. We cannot help our Phi Mu women unless we continue to have everyone’s support! Parent dues are $50 per year.
