2014-15 SEASON PRIMER
WHO WE ARE Wax Wings Productions is a group of actors, directors, designers, and playwrights who came together in 2011 to bring challenging, cutting-edge theatre to the Boston scene. Wax Wings presents world-premiere works (Grandma’s House) as well as reimaginings of timeless classics (Hamlet, A Streetcar Named Desire). Wax Wings’ “Rumpus Nights,” held throughout the season around Greater Boston, present opportunities for emerging playwrights to stage readings of works-in-progress. Collaborations with other Boston arts organizations have resulted in unique, hybridized, compelling premieres (such as 2014’s “Asides”---a joint effort with The Fifth Floor Collective, a contemporary music consortium). Wax Wings’ artistic aim is to illuminate fundamental truths about human nature through cutting-edge storytelling, and to bring these stories to audiences of all types and backgrounds. To this end, we mount performances in Boston and beyond; our production of Hamlet, for example was staged in a residential neighborhood in Lexington, a historic hall in Lincoln, a school in Dover, and a black box in Somerville. Wax Wings is proud to be a vital new element in the flourishing Boston theatre scene.
