STAGE FOR THE CITY We were tasked to consider the idea of a Culture Condenser... My interpretation proposes a performing arts center that investigates the role of performance and audience - to blur the line between the two. Movement becomes the central motif of the project as the ritual of moving through spaces becomes a performance in itself. Accentuating key ideas of ascension and descension mark the beginning and end of the promenade - relating to the tragic history and hopeful future of a once thriving community. Dance and music are a tool to unite people - they are art forms that capture a passage through time. Both mirror the crescendo and decrescendo of the site - tethering their connection and setting the stage to weave art and history into place. Spring 2023

The site - located on the corner of Auburn Ave and Piedmont Ave, can be seen as a datum between history and the future. ... Civic... educational ... business ... history ... and local all converge on this point, establishing the argument to connect individuals across diverse communities.
qualities of space The six “archetypes” are re - presented using photography and photoshop - helping to discover potential atmoshperes and feelings associated with each one.
Finally, using these spacial ideas - a series of physical models were built and collage’d to explore spatial relationships and organizations beginning a design process in section

SCULPTURE GALLERY This assignment focuses on a mixed-use artist studio and gallery located in the city of Marietta. We are challenged to design a new facility that creates an intentional relationship between the studio and gallery and its adjacent public space while taking a position on and creatively engaging the roles of public and private realms within and around the site. The series of sculptural form models originates in the contents of the gallery itself - a sculpture that communicates a sense of weightlessness despite the rigid materials.
Each iteration establishes new key design factors. The first establishes the language of the intersecting “el” shapes - carved out to distinguish an entrance into the site. The second pulls them apart to create skylights.

THERMAL BATHS AND SPA Located in Myvatn, Iceland - this project approaches the brief with an understanding of its place rather than site. The larger context (iceland as a whole) is quite literally formed geographically through the phenomenal relationship between ice, water, and fire. This presupposition informs the articulation of the program and it’s organization. Placed in a feild adjacent to the lake the building itself is contextualized by the use of the same phenomenon through tectonics. Bringing focus to the craft using material to design an atmosphere.

The form aims to sit un oppresivelly in it’s environment allowing the landscape to become part of the architecture as well. The stracture for the majority of the project is a series of pilotis to allow the object to gracefully be placed on the site.

WOOD ARTIFACT We were tasked to experience, explore, and document 2-3 demensional phenomena, translating animate [in]animate phenomena into 2 demensional visual design narratives of pattern languages, tactile surfaces - a formal and rational compositional ordering system of modulating scale, proportion of form - space - order. The object’s concept is not best explained by a single moment but by an approach, I developed through my design process. Instructor - Pittman, Peter

CANTILEVER A structures project focussing on single steel and wood members and their performance - turned design charette - developed into a small art gallery cantilevered out 100’ into the mountain range. This project returns to fundamentals, with concise concept sketches following a modular language informed by the materials’ structural limitations. The structure is produced by two separate L-shaped truss systems intersecting, which suspend the habitable gallery space within the structural members. Resulting in a relatively simple design consisting of a structural exo skeleton and an internal wall system cladded on the outside with metal paneling. Through their overlap, the primary circulation is created - marking the only moment the structure is experienced internally as you walk through a ramp between the interlocking truss systems.
