Why Fitness Testing? The reasons for assessing health and fitness may differ between competitive athletes and those who are recreationally active. But physical fitness testing on recreationally active adults provides benefits similar to those seen by competitive athletes. Fitness Assessments provide vital information to help you maximize your workouts and serve as a motivating tool for all active individuals. Whereas Performance-related fitness is linked to athletic performance such as a 50-yard dash, Health-related fitness is linked to fitness components that may lower or avoid risks such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or low back pain including Aerobic Fitness, Muscular Strength and Endurance, Flexibility and Body Composition. In turn, Fitness Assessments provide a starting point from which you and your trainer can begin to plan and assess your workout and exercise activities to reach your health or weight loss/maintenance goals. The condition of your physical body plays a vital role in your overall well-being. Your physical health depends on educating yourself about what your body needs. Through regular health and fitness testing, the fundamentals of your physical condition can be measured and with proper exercise improved upon.
Factors affecting Fitness Assessments In evaluating fitness testing, test results may be influenced by several factors such as age, gender, body type or physical condition. Therefore, when evaluating individuals our tests relate to each person being assessed.
Validity and Reliability One of the most important characteristics of a test is that it is valid and reliable. Validity is the degree to which the test measures what it is intended to. Our comparison scores, indicative of your fitness level, come from the American Heart Association, the Canadian Department of Public Health, the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and data from over 100,000 individual assessments. Reliability is the ability of a test to produce consistent and repeatable results. All our tests are objective and meet the guidelines set forth by ACSM, the American College of Sports Medicine.

How do we test? For accurate assessments, tests need to be performed safely and in an organized fashion. Carefully planned, our tests are given in proper sequence and a safe environment. All participants must clearly understand the purpose of each test. Our Fitness program can record, analyze, and track physical health and fitness measurements for males and females of all ages. The program includes tests in the areas of body shape and composition, cardiovascular and aerobic fitness, muscular strength, and flexibility. Our Fitness Assessment does not replace regular medical check ups performed by a physician. However ACSM guidelines for exercise testing suggest that it is unnecessary for apparently healthy men and women to have a physician present during sub-maximal testing. Instead the assessed individual works below maximum effort (sub-maximal) and an estimated maximum capacity is projected, provided for and calculated by the results of the test.
Am I healthy enough for testing? Our health screening questionnaire provided by the American Heart Association and the American College of Sports Medicine will help you decide if it is safe to take these tests or if you should take additional steps prior to completing the Fitness Assessment.
