CHEZ YVETTE RESTAURANT For this culinary venture it was a trip out to the fascinating wilderness of East Pattaya to visit a marvelous oasis of tranquility – the Holland Tulip Resort Pattaya, a wonderland of 52 Mediterranean style houses, surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens and a saltwater swimming pool centre piece. In front of which is the Dutch owned resort’s 5 star Chez Yvette Restaurant. With mainly French cuisine on offer, the chic decor with rich rustic red furniture, makes for a truly wonderful atmosphere, reassuring guests that the cuisine is going to be first rate and extremely delicious. The menu has tempting appetizers that includes Goat Cheese Salad and the Yvette signature Salad and a classic Pan Seared Foie Gras (Duck Liver) with Apple Gala. The main course

dishes start at around 230 baht for Pasta with choice of Sauce, Pork Chop with Ceps (Mushroom) Sauce, Homemade Beef Tartar, Rabbit Leg with Mustard, and imported French Beef Tenderloin with Pan Seared Foie Gras “Rossini” style. All dishes are served with a Green Salad and a side dish of different style Potatoes, such as Sauteed, Gratin Dauphinois, Baked, Fries or Mashed. There is also Polenta, Ratatouille and fried seasonal Vegetables. The menu includes a small variety of Thai dishes available, all around 250 baht, such as Tom Ga Gai (Chicken Coconut Soup), the ever popular Tom Yum Khung (Spicy Shrimp and Lemongrass Soup) and Crab or Shrimps in a Yellow Curry Sauce. So, what did we go for? Well, to start at the beginning,

we went for the Cold Cut Platter, being an assortment of imported French style Salamis, Mortadella, and Gherkins and Black Olives accompaniment plus a superb tasting spicy Relish. Next was the Salmon and Red Tuna Tartar dish – comprising of a perfect marriage of marinated raw Salmon and Tuna served with a Rocket Salad. It was then onto the Main Course dishes! A deliciously creamy Seafood Risotto with Mussels, Shrimps and tender Calamari. This was followed

by a Beef Stew Nicoise, a bowl of extremely tender chunks of Beef covering a pile of Fettuccini in a fabulous rich Brown Sauce. It was then on to one of the house specialties, the not so humble Pork Black Pudding Millefeuille with Caramelized Apples. A truly rustic dish that is lifted beyond its norm! With an intense flavour and semi rough and melt in the mouth texture that was cut into by the sweet and juicy slices of Apple, and served with a very good Mashed Potato side dish. If you like Black Pudding, then this is the dish for you! All these gastro delights ended with a medley of the extremely delicious and tempting Desserts, including homemade Tiramisu, French style Nougat and Nuts

and to top it all off the house specialty of an Apple Bombe with Calvados. All ever so yummy in the tummy! Excellent House Wines sell at around 120 baht a glass or 300 baht for a 50cl jug. The resort is a little difficult to find, but go about 3 kilometers from Sukhumvit Road along Soi Siam Country Club until you see a Tesco Express on the right hand side. At the traffic lights turn Right and you will see the resort sign on the Left hand side – turn Right and carry on to your awaiting culinary destination. It is well worth the effort! Open from around 5.30pm until late. Chez Yvette is closed on Tuesdays. Telephone: 084 293 3957 or 086 708 8651.

In monetary terms, the total amount of tourist revenue generated in 2015 was US$42 billion. It is this figure that is predicted to rise by 8% with revenue from domestic travel predicted to be around US$24 billion in 2016. So where are the visitors coming from? (+11.36%) and Africa 51,566 (+6.44%). The only market reporting a slowdown was Oceania: 284,298 (-2.71%). Of the 7.63 million arrivals coming from East Asia and ASEAN which made up 65.32% of the total market share, 3.4 million came from China with the total from ASEAN countries being 2.74 million arrivals with the majority of these coming from neighbouring Laos. Malaysia, Korea and Japan all made it into the top five for the numbers of visitors to Thailand. As a whole, the number of European visitors coming between January and April 2016 increased

by 8.89% to 2.52 million compared with the previous year. Perhaps not surprisingly the largest source in this category was Russia who had 443,346 visitors, compared to the previous year. This was an increase of 15.25% as the country recovered from the drastic fall in the value of the Rouble. The number of visitors from the UK was up 10.12% to 369,671 followed by Germany and then France. There was also significant growth in the number of visitors coming from South Asia. The total in the stated months was 459,157, an increase of 8.72% on the same period in the previous year. India made up the highest percentage of visitors in this group, 76.63%. There were also increases in the number of visitors from Nepal and Sri Lanka although visitors from Pakistan and Bangladesh reduced. Visitors from The Americas, Middle East and Africa also increased but there was a marginal decline in the number of visitors coming from Oceania. This group declined by 2.71% to 284,298, attributed mainly to falls in the number of coming from Australian and New Zealand.

Baby Snatching

Nurse accused of snatching new-born from hospital A closed-circuit television camera at the hospital captured images of a woman carrying the baby and getting into a waiting pickup truck behind the hospital around 7pm on Friday. (Library image) A nursing assistant charged with stealing a baby from a hospital where she worked said she had suffered a miscarriage and feared her boyfriend might leave her, according to police. The 22-year-old woman was apprehended at a beauty salon about 500 metres from Nan Hospital at 11pm on Friday, four hours after the 10-day-old baby was taken from the hospital. Pol Col Weerachai Bungnern, deputy chief of Nan police, led the search after being alerted by Dr Pongthep Wongwatchara-

paiboon, the hospital’s deputy director. A closed-circuit television camera at the hospital captured images of a woman carrying the baby and getting into a waiting pickup truck behind the hospital around 7pm on Friday. Police searched houses and apartments nearby and finally located the suspect at a beauty salon run by Yuan Sririn. The stolen baby was returned to its mother. Mrs Yuan, 48, the mother of the suspect’s boyfriend, reportedly told police that her son and his girlfriend, who had been romantically involved for about one year, arrived at her shophouse on Friday night. The young woman allegedly told her that she had just given birth and wanted to stay at the shophouse for a while.

Israeli Arrested

Mrs Yuan said she only learned that the baby had been stolen when police arrived at her shophouse, adding that her son was also confused by what had happened. Pol Col Prayoon Chamnarnkhong, chief of Muang district police station, said the suspect had been pregnant with a due date around Nov 20. However, she told him that she had a miscarriage and feared her boyfriend might leave her. Police said the suspect went to the hospital’s obstetrics and gynaecology ward on Friday evening and told a mother that she needed to take her baby to check its weight. She then reportedly carried the baby away from the hospital and phoned her boyfriend to pick her up.

Two Israelis arrested after grisly body find Love feud: Israeli national Shimon Biton, 50, is detained by police officers who suspect he killed compatriot Eliyahu Cohen, 63. TWO Israeli suspects have been arrested following the discovery of a dismembered body believed to be of a missing Israeli man. The body was found inside a bag and covered with concrete at a house in Nonthaburi’s Bang Bua Thong district. Yesterday morning, police inspected the house and found the body. Police suspect that the deceased is Eliyahu Cohen,

63, an Israeli who disappeared on Wednesday. Pol Colonel Ekachai Boonvisut, deputy superintendent of Metropolitan Police Division 7, stated that police were unable to confirm the identity of the deceased because forensic police and officers from the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok would have to identify the body. Cohen’s family member told officers at Bavorn Mongkol Police Station in Bangkok that Cohen, a former Israeli policeman, disappeared from his apartment in Bang Yi Khan district on Wednesday while on a trip to the Kingdom. The police inspected CCTV foot-

age from the apartment and found that Cohen left the apartment alone on Wednesday and drove away in his car. Police also found that after his disappearance the two Israeli suspects withdrew money from Cohen’s account. Officers believe that the two suspects, who are in custody, may be linked to the crime as they used to meet Cohen and borrow money from him. They also have information that there may have been a dispute over a Thai woman. The suspects have denied any involvement in Cohen’s disappearance.

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 16 - NOVEMBER 30, 2016

Financial Newsletter provided by BROADGATE Investment Advisory Securities (Thailand) Limited Riding the Camel; Special President Trump Edition 9th November 2016 Tom Elliott How should investors respond to Donal Trump’s election victory? Market response Gold, Treasuries, the yen and the Swiss Franc have risen thanks to their safe haven status. The S&P 500 futures and many global stock markets are down, particularly Asian markets, on fears that a Trump presidency will undo the global trade agreements and so trigger a tit-for-tat rebuilding of tariff walls. Our response We should not overreact. Market bears have a terrible track record when they forecast doom and gloom. We should remember 1) U.S third corporate earnings having come in at generally better than expected levels, ending a profits recession. 2) Contrary to Trump’s claim that America needs fixing, its economy is actually quite solid: GDP growth is running at around 2.9%, and unemployment is low with wages now rising. This will help support corporate earnings looking ahead. 3) Because of demographic factors in the U.S and the west in general that reduces demand for capital, and a glut of global savings caused by current account surpluses in Asia and north Europe that has generated too much capital, U.S and global interest rates and bond yields are likely to continue to be low for years ahead. Which supports current stock market valuations. Asset allocation Long term investors are unlikely to benefit from taking short-term trading bets over the coming weeks. There is a significant risk that selling equities now will result in being out of the market when a recovery rally kicks in. Certain sectors look like they may outper-

form as health, environment, and bank regulations are changed (see above), and emerging markets may underperform on fear of a reversal of globalisation. Investors should instead maintain a broadly diversified portfolio, buying into funds that can themselves utilise professional fund managers with their armies of analysts to take advantage of any sector moves. Trump’s policies

Cynics say Trump will carry out the objectives of Republican donors, cut taxes and end Obamacare. Indeed, we can probably say goodbye to Obamacare and Democrat efforts to contain healthcare costs (so Trump is good for pharma stocks). We can also expect a lighter touch environmental regulation given Trump’s scepticism over the causes of global warming (good for energy stocks). And there will be Republicans itching to at least partially repeal of the Dodd-Frank legislation (good for finance sector shares who can put more risk on their balance sheets). This is all mainstream Republican thinking about what constitutes good policy. Tax cuts on business are likely, as is greater military spending. However Trump hopes to do a very un-Republican thing and tax

On the sunny side: Southeast Asian nations push into the sale of electricity from renewable sources at a fixed price solar over 20 years. SINGAPORE, Nov 2 - Indonesia and Vietnam are looking to join VIETNAM Thailand in blazing a trail for solar power in Southeast Asia, intro- The country expects to raise the share of renewables to 14 perducing targets to fire up green energy generation as a landmark cent by 2020 from negligible levels now, according to Hoang Quoc global agreement to curb pollution is set to take effect this week. If countries adopt the right mix of support policies and targets, solar could grow to about 55 GW by 2025, or an addition of roughly 5 GW per year between 2014 and 2025, IRENA said. In comparison, the world’s top solar producer, China, had capacity of 43 GW in 2015, according to IRENA data. Following are some details on solar in the region’s countries: THAILAND The nation currently has the highest installed solar capacity in Southeast Asia, with a government official saying it reached about 2 GW in August against a target of 1.7 GW for 2016. It hopes to expand that to 6 GW by 2036. Thailand has subsidies in place via feed-in tariffs (FIT) to draw investment and is looking at raising targets for renewables, Viraphol Jirapraditkul, director of the Energy Regulatory Commission told us. INDONESIA The government aims to have 5 GW of solar power plant capacity by 2020, up from around just 70 megawatts (MW) at the moment. the profits of American companies that are kept overseas. In all, a mild Keynsian stimulus to the economy can be expected. Republicans versus Trump There are other Trump ideas that run counter to traditional Republican thinking, particular his attacks on globalisation, immigration, and political isolationism. Republican leaders like immigration, it keeps labour costs down, brings in skilled foreigners, and -to many- is at the heart of what America keeps the American economy vibrant. They like free trade with Mexico, China membership of the WTO, and believe in America’s duty to defend itself and its allies from regional bullies, through military alliances in Asia and through NATO. The Republicans control the Senate and the House. They will now try to capture Donald Trump and shape him into a mainstream Republican. This may be hard - he resisted capture during the primaries, and indeed has been disowned by several senior Republicans. True, he can now claim a popular mandate for some very un-Republican views on trade and building real, and tariff walls, against trading partners, but presidents need Congress to get things done. Stalemate may ensue on these policies. Currently Broadgate Securities Pattaya are offering no cost or obligation financial health check. PHILIPPINES A 500-MW target has already been reached and no new target has been set by the four-month-old administration of President Rodrigo Duterte. SINGAPORE Solar energy remains the most promising renewable energy source for the city state when it comes to electricity generation. Singapore has installed about 100 MW of solar panels and aims to increase that to 350 MW by 2020, or about 5 percent of the country’s projected peak electricity demand. MALAYSIA The country has approved projects to generate about 1,200 MW of electricity from renewable sources under its FIT system, of which about 320 MW will be from solar, said Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili. Current solar capacity stands at 267 MW, with the nation expecting to add 1 GW by 2020, or 250 MW per year, he said.

Good For Health-Nutritional Value of Carrot

Carrot provides 40 calories for 100 gram of its consumption. Carrot is a rich source of betacarotene because of which it gets its orange colour. Carrots contains dietary fibre, vitaminA, antioxidants and minerals like iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorous. Health Benefits of Carrot – Improves Eyesight We all know vitamin-A helps in improving the eyesight and carrot is one of the major sources of vitamin-A. Lack of vitamin-A can damage the retina of the eye and can cause poor vision and night blindness. Beta-carotene which basically gets converted into vitamin-A in the body helps in the protection against senile cataract and

macular degeneration in elderly. Carrots Nutrition and Good

Health When you eat carrots, the beta-

carotene is transformed into retinol or vitamin A. Carrots are high in Vitamin A, and a deficiency in this nutrient can cause some difficulty seeing in dim light. Vitamin A is essential for the formation of the chemical retinal, whose presence in the retina is necessary for vision. Our eyes have two kinds of light sensitive cells: the rods and the cones. The rods are the cells we rely on to see in dim light. They are sensitive to Vitamin A deficiency, because it can cause a shortage of retinal. The retina is the light-sensing part of the eye that holds the rods and cones, which contain enzymes that absorb light and allow us to see. When light

strikes the retinal molecule, it changes its shape. This activates a cascade of chemical reactions that informs the brain that light has entered the eye. When the levels of light sensitive molecules are low, due to Vitamin A deficiency, there will not be enough retinal to detect the light at night. During the day there is enough light to produce vision, despite low levels of retinal. So it’s only night vision that can be improved by eating carrots. The rods provide black and white vision and respond in dim light while the cones provide colour vision and respond to bright light. Vitamin A helps the retina tell black

from white and provides for colour vision. It also helps us see in dim light or at night. When you go into a darkened theatre after being out in the bright light, your eyes are able to adapt because of the vitamin A that you have stored in your body. So really the answer is they do help you see in the dark, but can only improve your night vision if you are deficient in Vitamin A. Carrot can be cooked in a variety of formats, chicken soup, boiled vegetables or eat as a side. Or eat it fresh.

His arms were fractured and his leg was cut. Next to the body they found a Honda Big Bike CBR 650 (license plate 5280 Chonburi). The dead man’s friend stated,

Child Abduction

Chonburi child abduction. Two men arrested, children safe On November 10 Chonburi Police Station received reports that two men had kidnapped two five-year-old children. At 6.30pm their parents had gone to look for them when they

told by witnesses that two men had taken them away. The police were immediately informed and the parents were distraught with fear. A search was organised and at 10pm another witness called officers with information that one of the children had been

seen running from the forest, close to the Weruwan Temple at Mueng. When the child was asked where his friend was, a little girl, he said a ‘Mr Tik’ had taken her to the forest. He also said another man called Mr Chotphing was very drunk and unable to speak. Officers immediately went into the forest, recovered the girl safely and arrested the two men. A local crowd followed and tried to attack the suspects and reinforcements had to be called in to try and restore order. The young boy also told officers that the men said they had toys for them in the forest that they could play with if they went with them. It later emerged that both children had ‘some injuries’ and appeared to have been beaten. The two suspects have been arrested and detained.

LEGAL

Computer Crimes Expat Law (Thailand) Co., Ltd., was established by Michael Lieberman. Utilizing the litigation services of Thai and English speaking lawyers with experience in domestic and international law, for individuals both foreign and local, domestic entities and in-house legal counsel for numerous established international companies. Khun Michael will be giving legal advice here in this column about the ever changing situation in regards to Thai Law and

keeping readers up to date with the constant changing business and social environment here in Thailand. Quite recently I have noticed a rise in computer related crime, whether it is a singular crime or an act committed in a larger crime. Such as the case of a married couple who were in the midst of court proceedings for a divorce, the husband had accessed his wife’s e-mail account on the home computer. As it was their home computer the wife had al-

ways saved the password for easy use, this resulted in the husband forwarding case sensitive files to his own e-mail account for use in court. This is of course illegal and was the wrong course of action taken by the husband, which jeopardized the divorce case as well as bringing about a new criminal case. Thailand’s Criminal Crime Act is fairly new having only been established in 2007 and it covers a broad range of computer related offences. The most com-

mon include violating computer protection or illegal access to a computer system or computer data, for example accessing a computer system with protection which is not yours can be subject to six months imprisonment and/or a ten thousand baht fine. Illegally accessing computer data such as files or e-mails not belonging to you also carries a punishment of two years imprisonment and/or a fine of forty thousand baht. This act also covers the sending of any malicious computer data either through electronic mail or by other means, this includes forward mails, transfer of viruses and the like. As digital data transfer can in-

clude a variety of information the punishment for violating this law is a jail sentence of no longer than ten years and/or a fine not more than two hundred thousand baht. This can affect businesses as a company will be held responsible if it in any ways consents to a violation committed on a company owned computer system and will be subject to the same penalty as the perpetrator. The computer crime act also covers cyber defamation; where any person who makes publicly accessible computer data wherein a third parties picture appears edited in a way that can cause damage to that party’s reputation is subject to no longer than three years imprisonment and/or a fine

of not more than sixty thousand baht. The Computer Crime Act is a new act which is very broad and not well defined, by knowing what is and isn’t punishable by law you can ensure your daily computer activities are not putting you at risk. Be careful when interacting with computer data of which you don’t know the source of and always stay on your guard. If you have any questions or inquiries please feel free to contact us at any time. Classic Malaysian hawker dishes at Oasis throughout November

Malaysian hawker food, with its strong Chinese influence is a culinary adventure, and classic hawker dishes from Penang, Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur are being served at Oasis in Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya throughout November. Nasilemak can be considered a Malaysian national dish, and is eaten at any time of the day, starting from breakfast time. There are regional varieties, but the kind being served at Oasis is a fragrant concoction of chicken, rice that has been cooked with pandan leaves and coconut, and a spicy sambal sauce. Yong tau fu is a Hakka Chinese dish made from tofu and mushrooms simmered in a rich stew of yellow beans. Bakkutteh translates literally as “meat bone tea”, even though there is no tea in the dish – a Chinese oolong tea is normally enjoyed alongside the serving. There are several different styles, but the bakkutteh prepared at Oasis uses pork spare ribs simmered in a fragrant broth with herbs and spices. Oasis is for families, groups of friends, couples and individuals! The restaurant has been recently renovated and now offers more outdoor seating than previously. Located on the lobby level, the restaurant is open from 06.00 to 23.00 hrs. For reservations please call 038-714981.

Taleggio cheese, a soft, mild crusted cheese that originates from the valleys and steep gorges of Lombardy, is served melted along with a soft polenta, boiled cornmeal that also comes from northern Italy, together with crispy Italian drycured pork, for THB 790++. Fontina cheese comes from the Alpine valleys at Aosta, where the cows are moved to a high altitude for part of the year to feed on rich grasslands that help give their milk a distinctive flavour. This cheese is served with chicken breast and cooked ham, and is priced at only THB 490++. Acqua, which features views over the resort’s water park, is suitable both for convivial evenings and for romantic dinners. The restaurant is open every day from 18.00 to 23.00 hrs. Formula One Hamilton on pole, Rosberg alongside in title race November 13th 2016: Sao Paulo (AP) — Lewis Hamilton has the pole for the Brazilian Grand Prix, and Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg is alongside with the season drivers’ title on the line. Buckle up. The stage is set for Sunday’s critical showdown, and Rosberg expects a frantic start on the short, hilly – and possibly wet – course. “I’m going to try to get Lewis in turn one,” Rosberg said after qualifying on Saturday. “That’s my plan, but it’s not going to be easy. The run to turn one is very short, so that doesn’t help of course. But I’ll try everything I can.” If three-time world champion Hamilton wins the race on Sunday, the Formula One title will be decided in the final race of the season in two weeks in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton has taken the last two poles in Mexico and the United States, and went on to win each race. “This is the best that I could have hoped for,” said Hamilton, who has never won in Brazil. “This is only my second pole here. It’s on a track that I’ve struggled at so I’m really happy to be up on top.” Rosberg, who has won the last

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, of Britain, steers his car during qualifying for the Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix at the Interlagos race track in Sao Paulo, Saturday, Nov. 12. (AP Photo/Leo Correa) two races in Brazil, has more avenues to take his first drivers’ title and match the one his father Keke Rosberg won 34 years ago. Rosberg leads Hamilton by 19 points — 349 vs. 330 — and will

claim the season championship if he wins, or if he scores at least seven more points than Hamilton. Rosberg can also finish second in Brazil, and third in Abu Dhabi and still be the champion.

“It was an exciting qualifier, for sure — very close — but Lewis was just marginally quicker in the end,” Rosberg said. “Anyway, as we’ve seen this year, the pole isn’t always the guy who wins the race. So I’m still optimistic

for tomorrow.” Mercedes has 19 of the 20 poles this season, and 17 of the 19 races. Hamilton was 0.102 seconds faster than Rosberg in qualifying, but was nearly overtaken

on the final lap by the charging German. The track was dry for qualifying, though rain always threatened. The final practice earlier Saturday was run in a light mist, with rain in the forecast for Sunday. The hilly Sao Paulo circuit has a history of shocking results, particularly when it’s wet. Hamilton is considered the better wet-weather driver, but Rosberg dismissed that edge. “Whatever comes, comes,” he said. “And we have a great car in any condition — in dry and wet.” The race will be the last at home for Felipe Massa, the Brazilian who is leaving F1 after 15 seasons. There are also rumors swirling that the Brazilian race itself could be on the ropes. TV viewership is down, Brazil is without a top driver, and the country is mired in a deep recession with unemployment at over 10 percent. “I’m aware of the battle people are having here with the economy,” said Hamilton, calling the Brazil race “part of F1’s heritage.” “I hope it does stay. But I also understand that it takes a lot of money.”

SIAM COUNTRY RESORT PSC Golf Report from SIAM Country Resort Pattaya, 3rd Nov 2016 Sunny week After all the rain we had, we were lucky this week with nice sunny weather and nice breezes. On Tuesday 1st November, we went to Greenwood. We played the A & B course. The course looked good, but was soaked of all the rain in the night before. Some of us had problems with the fact that the carts were not allowed on the fairways. We had a nice day and a neck on neck race between Neil Harvey (15) and Willem Lasonder (22). The decision fell on the last hole. Both ended with 37 stable ford points, but Neil beat Willem on the count back.

CAFE KRONBORG Café Kronborg Golf from Crystal Bay B&C 11 Nov Stableford 11 Nov 2016: Crystal Bay was the game today up Sukumvit for 1 hour but I think the motorway is better as there is lots of hold ups with construction from Kerry Siam seaport to Sri Racha. The course was busy so we got off C 1 on time under sunny skies and hot conditions. The course was in good condition looks like some money infusion with new golf carts. Back in the clubhouse welcomes went out to Bridgit and Ole

The nears to the pin were for Paddy Devereux (16) and Stuart Banks (20). On Thursday 3rd November, we went to Khao Keow. We played the B & C course. The course was in very good condition. We had again a beautiful day for a good game. Willem Lasonder confirmed his form this week. After a poor front nine coming back with 23 stable ford points on the back nine. He won today with 36 stable ford points. Second today Stuart Banks with 31 stable ford points. The nears to the pin were for Sam Gettinby (25) and Stuart Banks. GROWLING SWAN STABLEFORD EASTERN STAR GC – 7th November 2016 Confusion rained supreme as Colm comes Thru. Seventeen starters gathered today at headquarters anticipating the day’s challenges. Unfortunately things did not go that way, a mix up at the first tee saw a bit of confusion with 10 players being sent off before the second bus arrived. So unfortunately it was a split field. Weather was quite warm with a cool breeze affording some welcome relief. Rain was threatening for the latter part of the day The greens were in ordinary condition, and had only been sanded recently. Not up to me but B19000 for Green Fee, Cart

and Caddy was a little over the top considering the condition of the course. We played from the White Tees! Colm Mullen was out of the blocks on his first game back with his 36 points giving him first spot. A count back separated second and third, Steve Younger took out second with Walter Baechli taking third spot. BUNKER BOYS Wednesday 9th November Treasure Hill Stableford (Yellow tees) A Flight 1st Gerry Cooney (17) 35 pts 2nd Gez Williams (14) 35pts cb 3rd Keith Norman (14) 34pts B flight cut off >17.3 1st P J Redmond (29S) 39pts 2nd Ross Schiffke (22) 35pts 3rd Tore Eliasen (20) 30pts Near Pins; P J Redmond 2 Dave Ashman Gerry Cooney It started as a lovely clear day in bright sunshine but after a few holes the heavens opened and drenched the course forcing everyone to take shelter and wait for some relief before continuing with the game. Rain continued to fall lightly for the remainder of the first nine holes and it cleared on the back nine. The course remained soggy and there were many shots lost to the conditions which had become really difficult.. In A flight Gez Williams was in fine form

driving well and a controlled short game however he faded little and Gerry Cooney caught him and won on a count back both with 35pts. Keith Norman started slowly but had a good back nine just failing to catch the leaders with 34pts. The star of the day was the Old Silver Fox P J Redmond relishing the advantages of the silver fees he collected two near pins and romped home in B Division with a fine 39pts. Ross Schiffke was again on the podium taking second with 35 pts and Tore Eliasen third with 30pts. Khao Kheow where the course was beautifully presented and the weather was excellent with no hint of rain for a change. It was a case of the same old faces in the top places. We welcomed back Neil Carter after his recent altercation with a truck and it didn’t seem to affect him as he shot an excellent 36 pts .However that was not enough to beat Gez Williams who after an average front nine peeled off 5 pars in a row on the back nine to win with 37pts. Third place was closely fought with Keith Norman again finishing strongly holding off Tony Robbins and Gordon Melia to win on a count back with 34pts. B Grade was all Ross Schiffke again (Mr Handicapper !!) celebrating his wedding with 38pts and easily winning from Mike Brett 34pts and a surprised Ken Davison with 33pts. Certainly it was Gez Williams week with 2 firsts and a second closely followed by Ross Schiffke with a first a second and a third.

TROPICAL GOLF GROUP Friday, November 11, Pleasant Valley – St Landis Comes Up Aces at Pleasant Valley! Things are going along nicely for the Tropical Golfers. Weather is a bit cooler, courses are greener, and we get to visit a few places we haven’t been to in a while. This time was Pleasant Valley which we almost forgot about with all courses in the area. There was a full but manageable fifteen golfers signed up, and for several it was their third or even fourth round of the week. Its been almost a year since we were last at Pleasant Valley, so time to give it a try. Its a short but at times quite difficult course. Sad to say the overall condition was Fair, and that is

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 16 - NOVEMBER 30, 2016

being kind. Both fairways and greens were less than expected these days. It didn’t help, but not their fault it was also a bit squishy and damp in places. It seems like yesterday all we did was complain about dry, hard courses. Are we never satisfied? The layout makes for lack of length by difficulty, and we also played off the blue tees. That and lack of roll made the course play full length. Still, there were several very good scores, and one in deserves mention! LANDIS BROOKS not only won with 39 points but did so in style with a HOLE-IN-ONE on #17. With his course handicap (8) its not easy to get a 4-pointer, but get one he did! Pleasant Valley issued him a nice framed certificate, and Landis was kind

enough to share his good fortune with everyone back at BJ’s. The Tropical Golfers went two years without any aces, and now this is the second one in as many weeks. Oh yes, there were other golfers this day. In second place came Andre Van Dyk (16) with a fine 38 points, followed by John Davis (13) with 37. The Tropical Golfers are experimenting with a Sunday golf outing, so go sign up if interested. Emphasis will be on more affordable weekend courses, and joining a competition is optional. Near pins: Landis Brooks (holein-one), Brian Gabe, Mashi Kaneta, Andre Van Dyk Best front nine: Mashi Kaneta (20) Best back nine: Don Carmody (20)

GROWLING SWAN STABLEFORD Phoenix Golf Club – Thursday 3rd November 2016 By: San Mig Stu Gary Brightens his day! It was 24 golfers made their way to Phoenix Golf Club, one of the closest golf courses to Pattaya, for our game today. With a late tee off time (10.40 am) it was just as well we were not too far from home and we’re able to be back at the Growling Swan bar for ice cold refreshers well before 5.00pm. Most of us agreed that the course presented fairly well, despite numerous greens having patchwork quilt style repairs. Playing off the white markers on the Ocean and Lake Nines, on a fine and sunny, stiff breeze day, only two golfers bettered their handicaps, which indicate the difficulties that the majority tried to cope with. Mr. Hackster tried to get odds with his playing partners guessing the colour of his caddie’s undies before teeing off. Turns out he sussed out her favorite coloured lace ware the night before. Numerous “airies” were reported from many groups and normally one would expect free drinks from such indiscretions! Sadly, this unwritten rule seems to have abated over the years however our good friend Niall Stuart rang the bell and charged everyone’s glasses as a goodwill gesture, for his imminent departure to work overseas again. Travel safe Niall and we look forward to your speedy return. The winner today in A grade was Gary Bright who won on a count

back from Mr. Steady Eddie (Walter Baechli) both with 38 points. Paul (guess my caddies undie colour) Hack took out third place. B grade was won by Glenn Smith with a good score of 35 points followed by Steve Blazsanyik with Scott Baumgarton coming in third. Needless to say it was waved vigorously during presentations. Peter welcomed friends of Kevin Waycott from West Australia Wes Rado, Jayson Moylan, Mark Rossiter, Scott Baumgarten, Mike Quill, Neil Herd & Glen Reeves. They were

thanked for passing the hat around (amongst themselves) and contributing to D-For. We also welcomed back Gary Bright, Paul Simmons, JC Lhoste and new comer Stephen Blazsanyik. We bid a fond farewell to Niall Stuart and Ian Parry both leaving us for what we would hope to be a short time! Niall paraded D-for, who was the lucky recipient of many more baht, compliments of the aforementioned and also “Steady Eddy” (Walter Baechli) who seldom gets back for presentations but regularly insists that if he wins all winnings go to D-For. Pat yourself on the back Walter. Another kind donor was today’s B grade 2nd place getter Steve Blazsanyik. Steve was unable to attend presentations and his winnings were given to his playing partner and friend Ian Parry. Ian anticipated that Steve would want D-for to benefit so thank you Steve, or Ian as the case may be? Following presentations, Peter Grey asked all to tuck in to the free hot meal that he provides each Thursday, which is appreciated by all who partake. In the photo from L to R is Niall Stuart, Glenn Smith, Ian Parry, Eric (the Judge) Black & Casa! Jet Ski Conference SIAM COUNTRY RESORT Quiet week We had only 1 game this week. Our Tuesday game was cancelled due to absence of regular players. On Thursday 10th November we went to Mountain Shadow with 2 groups. The course was in good shape. The weather was nice today. Some of us had problems today with the trees along the fairways. But a nice day playing. Sam Gettinby (25) and Paddy Devereux (16) kept each other in balance today. Paddy had a good front nine, but Sam had a

stronger back nine. The decision fell on the last hole in advantage for Sam. He won with 36 stable ford points and Paddy became second with 34 stable ford points.
