SUSTAINABLE

SPECIALTY

This senior level studio course covers the physical and psychological factors that impact hospitality environments. Students are expected to graphically demonstrate original and viable solutions. Research on human factors, codes and lighting are combined with product mix and multi-sensory aspects of design to influence perceived value to the customer.

In this advanced course, the design of an upscale, global, corporate interior reflects the comprehensive synthesis of problem identification, research, programming, preliminary design, design development, and construction documents. Problem solving centers on the creative and technical aspects involved in the universal design of commercial environments including space planning with code compliance, wayfinding techniques, and specifying corporate furnishings, finishes and materials.

ADVANCED SPECIALTY

This studio course focuses on environmental issues concerning interior designers and the construction industry. Students participate in discussions on green design topics and learn about resources for improving indoor air quality and more responsible design choices. Following LEED (leadership in energy and environmental design) analysis, a final project implements sustainable design methods technically and creatively.

THESIS I & II

Hotel style, classification, and themes are examined for making appropriate design decisions as course content centers on the interrelationships between the elements of three-dimensional space planning, material/furnishing selections, contract specification, and detailing within hospitality environments. Presentations are developed to reflect current industry standards for client presentations and sale center displays.

In this senior-level course, students use critical thinking skills through research, writing discussion, and problem-solving. Emphasis is on the identification of a design problem that could be better met through more responsible design. Students choose a research topic with instructor approval. Solutions incorporate environmentally sound, cost effective, and responsible design methods to influence an audience using creative delivery methods.

INTERIOR DESIGN COMMERCIAL ENVIRONMENTS

ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING

This studio presents an in-depth study of the architecture and furniture developments of several major non-western cultures. Religious, philosophical, and social beliefs and customs are emphasized while construction methods, building materials, motifs, fabric, and decorative arts are explored. Students work within teams to present their research on Middle Eastern, Asian, African, Mesoamerican and NorthAmerican cultures.

PRESENTATION TECHNIQUES I

In this beginning studio course, students examine the language, tools and techniques of manual drafting and subsequently learn to communicate relevant information through architectural drawings. Students are introduced to the interior designer’s role producing construction documents.

RESIDENTIAL ENVIRONMENTS

In this beginning studio course, students are introduced to the basic principles of manual perspective drawing. The focus is on the use of various perspective drawing methods as means to communicate the spatial envelope with an introduction to basic rendering and other presentation techniques.

This studio course explores various types of residential dwellings as they relate to different inhabitants. Project work applies the programming and design development phases of the residential design process to include information gathering, needs analysis, concept and spatial development, and FF&E selections based on research and suitability.

This elective course focuses on the advanced study of the use of CAD with modeling systems for the purpose of interior design presentations. Studio projects transform CAD floor plans and models into 3-d software programs; adding lighting and materials to create photo-realistic renderings.

They can also be accessed through the main entrance so that they are secure when needed. The back of the building is set aside for deliveries and storage. The color scheme is analogous using earth tones for a calming, classic look. The facility will also use green furniture, solutions and materials. It will also be self sustainable as much as possible with solar panels on the roof, water barrels and a garden will be available for use by the community as well. U NAME IT is a store that sells unique gifts that can be personalized to make them one of a kind. You can add names, initials, monograms, etc. to truly make the gift unique while you wait. Also, there will be gifts such as address labels and stationary that can be ordered. The inspiration for this store was the gift tag which is the pretty, finishing touch for your gifts. The following design is for the Anderson family remodeling project. The home is located in Winnetka, IL. The home needs to be updated due to the age of the home and to be more aligned with the multi-generational household. This design uses the majority of the existing interior walls and the windows were left in their original positions. The changes that are recommended are for the overall design and to accomplish the clients wishes. When possible, sustainable choices were used such as no VOC paint and recycled glass countertops. The flooring is ceramic tile that looks like wood to withstand the four legged member of the family. Hand drawn and rendered

CONCEPT STATEMENT

The character of this design is sophisticated with an old world feel. The inspiration came from the families love of books, reading and family time. There are private spaces and social areas to accommodate the varied activities that the family likes to participate in. The color theme for the house is pulled from an antique library: red, cream and tan. These colors accent the wood and the formal living and dining rooms. The furniture and accessories are formal with a touch of comfort and romance. The kitchen is the jewel of the design with a custom designed island, Sub Zero Wolf range with a hood, a french door refrigerator, and double ovens. There is also enough room for at least two cooks in the kitchen together and plenty of counter space for cooking, baking and entertaining which is one of the major considerations of this design.
