Touch Up Guys franchisees enjoy stability in uncertain times

Stability. Income. Security. ‘Those are the biggest things people look for when buying a business, and everything has changed so fast this year that people are understandably worried about their future,’ says Martin Smith. ‘Online shopping and services have damaged a lot of businesses, while anything premises-based is at risk from lockdowns and landlords.’ But one of the industries to benefit unexpectedly has been car sales. ‘Because people haven’t been spending on overseas travel, many of them have been upgrading their cars instead,’ says Martin. ‘As a result, the car yards have been really busy – and that’s meant our franchisees have been flat out, too.’

Martin is the NZ master franchisee for Touch Up Guys, a mobile business that repairs vehicles by removing bumper scuffs, stone chips, scratches and other damage. Franchisees service both trade clients (such as car yards and fleet operators) and private customers. ‘History shows that this is a business which performs well no matter what the economy is doing,’ says Martin. ‘Any vehicle – car, truck or boat – is a big investment and it pays to look after it. The services our franchisees provide can’t be delivered over the internet, and because they are homebased and mobile there are no expensive premises. The vans are mobile workshops and carry all the equipment they need, including sophisticated colour-matching technology.’

A business for life

Another measure of the security the franchise offers is the length of time franchisees keep their businesses. ‘A survey showed that the normal length of time franchisees spend in the same business in New Zealand is around 8 years,’ says Martin. ‘Well, our average is probably double that, and several of our franchisees have been with us for over 20 years. That says a lot for just how solid the opportunity is.

‘In fact, some of the guys are looking at retiring soon, which means that some well-established businesses could be available, as well as new opportunities.’

A complete Touch Up Guys package costs between $88,000 and $120,000 +gst depending on van leasing options. ‘This includes an exclusive territory, all the equipment you need, and full training,’ Martin says.

No experience necessary

Martin says, ‘Touch Up Guys franchisees don’t need previous experience in repairs – just an eye for colour, attention to detail and the ability to chat to people and sell their services. Our specialised equipment makes it straightforward and efficient.

‘We are looking for men and women who want to achieve success through high quality work and excellent customer service. In return, we offer you high earning potential, low overheads, full training, ongoing backup and support, and real job satisfaction – for the long term! Call me now to find out more.’
