Why is Darryl using investors? ď Ž
He could let 20th Century Fox or SONY produce Million Dollar Daddy - which is estimated to gross $150 million in theaters. The studio would give him maybe 7% of the profits, and keep the rest.
ď Ž
By producing the movie independently and letting the studio do the distribution (+2700 theaters) Darryl retains 60% of the profits and shares 40% with his investors.

The Negative Pickup Deal ď Ž
Once we have completed Million Dollar Daddy, the major studios will bid for theatrical distribution rights. The highest bidder will issue Darryl one very big check which will cover the cost of production. This money will go to repay our investors before the movie is even released in theaters. Our investors are the first to be recouped.
ď Ž
Then, 40% of the profits from all revenue streams will flow to investors for the next 10 years.
