ew places generate a warm and fun feeling the moment you enter them, and when you come to Sonora you’ve hit the Mother Lode. Along these streets of gold you’ll find each building has its own individuality, and none better suits the vibe of a small restaurant than the one at 110 S. Washington Street. It reinvigorates the concept of a classic diner, in the sincerest and best sense. JDoggs isn’t just ‘‘reminiscent’ of a diner— it’s the real thing. The owners, Justin Bermea and Jackie Wynn, longtime friends, have completely updated the restaurant space with simple, authentic, bright, contrasting colors; black, white and red.The nickel-plated period lighting fixtures accentuate that 1950’s celebration of casual family dining. The kitchen is all-new and the stainless steel gleams proudly in the back where you can watch your lunch or dinner being briskly prepared. You’ll have the feeling you’ve stepped back into the 40’s and 50’s era as your senses are captivated by the aroma of classic hot dogs, burgers and fries, the sound of big band music and the warm hospitality. JDoggs originally started as a hot dog cart offering unique hot dogs in front of a jewel of a location at the Sonora Lowe’s. Then a wonderful opportunity presented itself at 110 S. Washington St. As locals, Justin and Jackie knew the history of this very special location in the Heart of historic downtown Sonora, which has played host to many successful businesses dating back to the Gold Rush Era. A vintage black and white checkered floor compliments the building with its long, narrow shape, a sleek, pearl-finished retro counter and comfortable booths. Even jurors from the courtrooms 2 blocks up the street, depend on the Deli during their brief lunch breaks appreciating the fast, friendly service and good food.. The staff will see a green juror badge and make sure they get a table quickly. There are wonderful creations like artichoke soup, stuffed baked potato soup, chicken pablano sandwiches, whole or half sandwiches, as wells as burgers, battered fries, salads and veggie selections They offer very special Louisiana/Cajun twist items, and the only place you’re likely to find a Catfish Po’Boy. The Lighthouse Deli is one of only a few places downtown that offers a sit-down or to-go breakfast during the week. The Light in the Lighthouse The energy and warmth of the place are the legacy of the late Judy Foret. Her daily greeting and cheerful goodbyes to everyone with a ‘Y’all have a

Always... Patsy Cline
September 18 to October 18 sees unforgettable hits such as “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces” and more visit the Fallon House Theatre in Always, Patsy Cline. More than a tribute to the legendary country singer, the show is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger. The musical play, complete with down-home country humor, true emotion and even some audience participation, includes 27 songs in all. The show’s title was inspired by Cline’s letters to Seger,
which were consistently signed “Love ALWAYS…. Patsy Cline.” The Los Angeles Times called the musical “a song-filled valentine.” The Drowsy
Chaperone
Sierra Rep has one great “Toledo Surprise” in store for it audiences with The Drowsy Chaperone, playing October 16 through November 29 at the East Sonora Theatre. Enter a magical world where critics are in awe and audiences are in heaven. It all begins when a die-hard musical fan dusts off his favorite cast album, a fictitious 1928 smash hit called “The Drowsy Chaperone.” The show bursts to life, and the audience is instantly immersed in the glamorous, hilarious tale of a celebrity bride and her uproarious wedding day. Mix in a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not so bright hostess, two 15 gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you’ve got a show soup dense with delicious delight! With one show stopping song and dazzling dance after another, New York Magazine called this 5-time Tony Award-winning show “The perfect Broadway musical.”
AClosing Christmas Carol the 2015 season,
Charles Dickens’ classic tale A Christmas Carol lights up the Fallon House stage. The brand new adaptation by Sierra Rep co-founder Doug Brennan plays November 13 through December 20. Awakened on the last stroke of midnight, Ebenezer Scrooge encounters three visions –of his past, his present and his future – and takes a journey that awakens his heart to the true spirit of Christmas. It’s an engaging show filled with Dickens’ delightful gallery of characters including Scrooge, Marley, Cratchit, Tiny Tim, all sure to enchant the entire family.
