Living in Hampton Roads magazine are full color, and glossy 8 ¼” x 10 7/8” publications printed annually. It is designed specifically as a reference guide for the Virginia Peninsula and Southside communities that together is now commonly known as Hampton Roads. Editorial and local photography represent a collection of factual data that includes area maps; neighborhood profiles from all 13 Hampton Roads municipalities; a Quick Start telephone reference guide for new arrivals. Editorial sections cover the Media; Real Estate; Home Building; Education opportunities; Health Care; Entertainment and Recreation; Arts & Culture; Festivals and Events; Restaurants; Shopping; Active Senior Living and Military Life. The Business Development section has references regarding Employment opportunities; Economic Development; a Publishers FYI, Regional Leadership; Economic Percolators; Small Business Boosters; a financial buffet and Meetings and Conventions. The Community Profile section provides Economic Development info on all 17 cities and counties of the Hampton Roads market. In addition there is a People’s Choice Business Guide category index for Business Advertisers. Testimonial users of the publication endorse it as a handy reference guide that enables small and large business owners a source of information to enhance their education about the market area’s lifestyles and a one source guide to set up new households. Most importantly it is a reference guide that enables people that are starting or enhancing existing businesses a source for advisory and financial assistance agencies to promote successful business operations. It is mailed worldwide to inquires wanting information about the Hampton Roads area and is available locally at the following locations: The Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce; the greater Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce; The Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce; the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association; the Hampton Roads Alliance for Economic Development; The Peninsula and Williamsburg Associations of Realtors; local Military Installations; major corporations; hotels; restaurants; Real Estate Agencies and a variety of local businesses serving Hampton Roads.


The former USO Military Guide to Hampton Roads magazine (see sample) 68 pages, 5½” x 8 3/8”, full color, and glossy and printed annually as a source of shared revenue for the USO of Hampton Roads. It is designed to specifically serve Military personnel and their families at all 14 Military Bases in Hampton Roads, Virginia. The editorial contains the most requested services that are provided to military families, including reference locations shown on all military base maps. It is designed to carry in an automobile glove box for handy reference of all the major military facilities with telephone listings. It also describes the services available and locations of the Hampton Roads USO Centers. Among the editorial sections include: Arts & Entertainment; Chapels; Child Care Centers; Higher Education; Commissaries & Exchanges; Family Service Centers; Financial Aid; Health Care Facilities; Housing Referral offices; Major Commands; Military Education; Military Installations; Military Legal Assistance; Military Medical Facilities; and Military Moral, Welfare & Recreation Offices. Revenue was shared and distribution is provided by the USO Hampton Roads through the Military Family Service centers for new arriving personnel and is available at all 14 military bases plus USO centers and Naval Shipyards. Other publications produced by Darden Publishing include a Parent’s Guide to Family Day Care, written by Linda Pollard; a Public Relations manual produced for the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association; a Blind author’s autobiography and others (samples available by request). In addition to these publications, Darden Publishing is currently marketing custom CD ROM presentations for local businesses, creating graphic designs, print advertisements, newsletters and company logos for area businesses and organizations (see samples). Paul Darden has also written several marketing plans and proposals for local businesses in previous years with his Creative Communications business. Producer of n audiovisual presentation entitled “Living on the Virginia Peninsula a Hampton Roads Community” This presentation is now available for Paul Darden’s speaker’s tour with area civic groups and professional organizations. The mission is again to promote business growth and real estate sales in Hampton Roads while showing its good characteristics to all groups interested in viewing. NEW MAGAZINE TO PROMOTE HAMPTON ROADS CULTURAL ARTS (NEWPORT NEWS, VA) – Hampton Roads Bravo!, a new regional cultural arts publication, has been launched by The Cultural Alliance of Hampton Roads and Darden Publishing. The premiere issue was published in January 2008. The magazine, scheduled to publish every January and July, in addition to a smaller spring festival supplement, is the result of a non-profit/profit venture to promote the arts in Hampton Roads across all venues, political boundaries and artistic disciplines. It will foster public and private arts funding, arts education, and community and individual participation, as well as encouraging membership in the Cultural Alliance, which has served as the arts and culture community’s advocacy organization for 25 years. Paul Darden, president of Darden Publishing, which has published the lifestyle guide Living in Hampton Roads and its predecessor Living on the Virginia Peninsula since 1994, is publisher. Gail Kent, who has more than 30 years of experience as a writer, editor and business communicator, is executive editor. The glossy, four-color magazine will be distributed free of charge at arts venues, businesses, select retail and municipal locations, airports, Hampton Roads area Chambers of Commerce, business and professional organizations, hotels, and to local and state dignitaries and legislators. Each issue will include features and interviews on Hampton Roads arts and artists; stories that address cultural arts topics such as arts and the law, sustainability, regionalization and funding; a venue map and arts organization list; dedicated sections on each of the major arts; and short news items.
