Summer Studio 2016 (Current Studio) Design Solutions and Master Planing for Findlay Market Summer Studio 2016, Planning Design Studio, is a analysis and design oriented studio that revolves around the idea of design intervention and strategic planning for Findlay Market and the adjoining blocks. The class began with sensory analysis of the area. Subjective maps were created and our observations were recorded through photography. Afterward more conventional maps were drawn and analysis was conducted. Now we are beginning to examine case studies for an intervention in this 9 block area.

Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership Spring Semester Co-op, 2016, Land Bank Intern In the Spring of 2016 I was a Land Bank Intern at the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership. TNP is the only community development cooperation in the state of Ohio that is contracted to run the county land bank. As a Land Bank intern it was my responsibility to carry out administrative tasks as well as field work as it pertained to the land bank. I was also responsible for reports regarding residential rehabilitation cost analysis, demolition target area creation, and commercial redevelopment request for proposal documents. My job required me to have a working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, Excel, Word, URL Profiler, Mail Chimp, and Arc GIS for desktop. I was also required to have a working knowledge of land bank procedures, dealing with the public, data collection and research. I did not limit my work to the land bank, I was successful in my endeavor to write grants for the Garden Resources Of Warren (Grow) as well as Building a better Warren.

Westwood CURC Community Mapping & Housing Research I began working at Westwood Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation as an intern, in the Summer of 2015. At first I performed data collection and basic mapping assignments. Eventually the organization decided that it was necessary to do some research to understand the sub-neighborhoods of Westwood, in order to put together a housing strategy. I was then given a short term contract, to continue working with West CURC and I began working on a first draft of the Westwood Community Mapping Report. I finished several drafts of the document before completed the internship in January of 2016.

Fall Studio 2015 Urban Design on Green-fill Site Fall Studio 2016 was our first exercise in urban design. Each team was assigned a public park within the Greater Cincinnati Region. Our group was assigned Devou Park in Covington KY. We were to assume that the park was a future green-fill development site, and conduct analysis of the park conditions. Park Analysis included infrastructure, weather patterns, vegetation, view shed analysis, soil mapping, and other natural and man made factors of the landscape. After the analysis was completed, each group was required to select an area suitable for development, and then to create a development conceptual development model.

Urban Sustainability in China Yizhuang Urban Design and Excursion In the Spring of 2015, I took a class on understanding Urban Sustainability in China. The class was mixed, under graduates and graduate students as well as multi-disciplinary between architecture, engineering, and planning participated in the class. The class worked on the premise of learning about China through the lens of Urban Design. We were assigned a section of Beijing’s suburb Yizhuang, and tasked with designing the site. I worked with a team of students interested in modeling the patterns of growth that the area could see, and what the populations needs might look like. We accomplished this through the use of an Arc GIS extension called Scenario 360. The program allowed us to input assumptions about the needs of the population and combine them with variables, such as finished square feet of a building, and obtain information about the population.

GIS Experience Data collection & mapping I have been using GIS for a variety of projects, from site analysis to county wide data collection. Projects I have worked on range from a county wide health infrastructure map I completed for my Intro to GIS class to the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership NIP Target Area analysis, to scenario based planning services.
