REGGAEXCLUSIVE VIEWS Town on the Danforth or Chinatown on Spadina whose businesses have been flourishing for years, most of Little Jamaica is not owned by Jamaicans, so as progress happens the future is uncertain for fiscal success of said businesses.

JULION VIEWS www.canadianreggaeworld.com

REVITALIZATION OF LITTLE JAMAICA Jah bless Josh Colle for honoring reggae contributions in Little Jamaica. Without a shadow of a doubt, it has brought excitement to many of us reggae heads in Toronto and around Canada. Many like me had the honor and the privilege of being a part of that glorious history as I used to rehearse on the lane years ago with my band IBADAN when Ruffins had a little spot on the lane. For me and others, it is always an uplifting thing to have one’s contributions honored, especially when it is totally unexpected. Why so surprised you ask? Well, none to my knowledge have ever broken through the domestic market in Toronto or Canada. Reggae as a genre in Canada has never been a mainstream entity where folks in Winnipeg or Saskatoon or Halifax know of any artists or songs from a Canuck. This honor comes as ‘progress’ ie; the subway moves into the area, making the neighborhood more valuable. In time Little Jamaica will / could be a memory and the landmark left behind to remember this area as well as the era will be Reggae Lane. The sad part for me is that most of the businesses in the area are renters. Unlike Greek

Who is to blame? As usual I internalize the issue. I look directly at me. Again, I am to blame! As a vibrant people with powerful reggae roots, I have not found an opportunity to sustain or to maintain a business or industry making Little Jamaica more of an asset to Canadian culture. My plan is to change my way of thinking in this process. To bring the “realness” of this reggae culture as it is what is being honored on the strip. To invite all Canadians back to the root! Back to where the energy was built and blossomed. Some have pointed to the choice of the current lane way, viewing it as an insult. As usual, we debate and fight amongst ourselves when positive decisions are made while others capitalize on the next phase ie; the future of Reggae Lane as well as Little Jamaica. I am putting these words out to the world, challenging myself to find a path in capitalizing on this reggae success and turn it to a growth opportunity for Jamaican / Canadians and for a greater contribution in Toronto and Canada. When I first arrived in Canada I used to walk the Eglinton strip and hang out with my idrens, listen to music and kick ball with West Indies United Football Club. It was a blessing to me which aided with acclamation to my new home Canada after leaving Jamaica. It was a blessing to share that reggae vibe with friends from Jamaica and those in my new home. Though we seemed to celebrate things differently the

common bond is / was the music, so I digress. I go to the simplest path...follow the music. Reggae Lane - The only one in the world! Yet in this colonial hierarchy that is Canada it is really another case of ‘tokenism’ it seems. After living here for 39 years and now a 2nd class citizen by law created by the racist leader of the nation Stephen Harper, I am well aware of the ‘place’ that I am expected to accept. No attention has ever been paid the reggae artists performing in Canada nor to the music. What is apparent is the use of the genre to create “Canadian successes” like the band Magic yet none of it filters down to the artists or to many participants of the industry as it pertains to Canadian content or upliftment. For instance, Leroy Sibbles, as a stalwart of the Studio One era, has contributed to reggae music more than a band like Magic yet does not receive mainstream airplay in Canada. I’m not upset for Magic’s success; I’m more miffed that all of these music heads and executives in Canada see no path in elevating the reggae music created in this country even when they create the ‘look’ they want from that band and the sound of the music, yet no link to this vibrant industry that has been established for years along Eglinton Avenue and now all over Canada. Festivals like Jambana, Irie Festival, Redemption, and others go with the tried and true formula of bringing big name artists from Jamaica and filter in the odd homegrown reggae artist, yet do nothing to elevate their notoriety or careers. Don’t get me wrong, I am not vilifying these amazing and necessary festivals. I have been to them and have been fully entertained and am VERY grateful for them and wish the organizers the greatest

successes that they deserve based on the hard work put into them year after year and know that not everything was smooth sailing along the way. It took YEARS to attain their place in Canadian business success. My issue is Little Jamaica and Reggae Lane. This is where reggae first flourished in Canada whose contributions were so significant that many years later, it is being honored. Even now as a so called 2nd class citizen, I allow no man or manmade laws to determine my worth. I am surer of that worth now as the culture is being honored as such. I intend to take this opportunity to bring Canadians back to Eglinton west aka Little Jamaica, not only for entertainment but seeking business opportunities in the revitalization of a significant culture. One of said ventures is selling the Reggae Lane name in the form of tee shirts and ball caps. Any and all proceeds go back into the promotion of reggae vibes along Eglinton as well as reggae ventures in Toronto and Canada. “Buy Reggae Lane, support reggae Canada”. I am also working out of Sankofa Restaurant & Bar on Eglinton west, 1653 Eglinton Avenue, west of Oakwood, Friday nights are my night to bring old and new. The venue belongs to African Star, Stuart Brown, a reggae legend to those who know his history. There will be artists brought up from Jamaica to perform like Kabaka Pyramid and Tinga Stewart that have already graced the stage yet also wish to include live performances by veteran and upcoming bands and artists in Toronto and hopefully other provinces. It is I goal to bring that energy back to Eglinton west. To elevate the genre as well as Eglinton Avenue!

REGGAEXCLUSIVE HEALTH WATCH maintain immunity, proper bowel function and digestion. Did you know 80% of your immune system is found in your gut? Things like constipation, birth control pills, yeast infections, pharmaceutical drugs, IBS, and poor food combining can disrupt this delicate good bacteria/bad bacteria balance and overtime cause a sluggish liver and a weakened immune system. MUST HAVE SUPPLEMENTS IN A DEFICIENT WORLD. By: Trisha Smith (R.H.N, C.H)

W

hile living over here in the Western hemisphere, we must acknowledge the fact that food is not what it used to be. Even if you’re “eating healthy”, know that there is an attack being carried out on our fruits, vegetables, grains and our precious soil. Genetically Modified foods and deadly herbicides coupled with poor nutrient density in the soil yields poor quality and nutritionally deficient produce. So what do we do about this dilemma? Organic food costs an arm and a leg and as much as we abstain from fried and sugar- filled foods, we are still dealing with dis-eases and illnesses within the community. There are 5 supplements, in my opinion, that are must haves in everybody’s life. Whether you’re on medication, employ a healthy lifestyle, or eat McDonalds every day, there’s no harm in providing your cells with the recommended daily intake of vitamins, minerals and macronutrients. 1. Probiotics are good bacteria that are naturally found in your gut. Their purpose is to

Probiotics will help with proper bowel function, eliminate stinky gas, recurrent yeast infections and keep your immune system in tip top shape. Natural sources are fermented foods like plain yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut and miso. The powdered kids form is also beneficial when applied topically to yeast infections that are sometimes mistaken for diaper rash. Number 2 on my list are EFA (Essential Fatty Acids) or commonly known as Omega 3*6*9. You ever wonder why your Grandmother always stuffed cod liver oil down your throat when you were a child? Because she loved you, that’s why. EFA’s are necessary for overall health but unfortunately your body does not manufacture these fats, we have to get them through food. In a nutshell EFA’s are “healthy” fats that are usually extracted from fresh water fish like Cod, Salmon, Sardine and Mackeral or Krill. Vegetarian sources are Hemp, Flaxseed. Chia, Borage, Marine Algae, Evening Primrose Oil, Raw Nuts, Seeds and Avocadoes; EFA’s supply you with DHA and EPA, which are key ingredients that have an anti inflammatory effect on the body. It supports the brain, heart health, regulates cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, maintains proper bowel function, and keeps your hair, skin and nails

looking hydrated, shiny, strong and healthy. This is also excellent for children with learning disabilities. Number 3 on my list of must have supplements is a B complex Vitamin. B vitamins are so crucial in this day and age because it helps you deal with stress, anxiety & fatigue and insomnia. B vitamin supplementation will help you generate energy, build red blood cells, support the fetus in pregnant women and maintain the health of the skin, bones and hair. I enhance the effects of B vitamins when I take it with Vitamin C, Rhodiola and/or Holy Basil. Number 4 on my Must Have List is a Multi Vitamin/Mineral Complex . A clean sourced multi vitamin mineral will ensure that all your body systems are getting the right support and just enough nutrients to support your daily bodily functions. We at times crave foods that are not good for us, depriving our bodies of what it really needs and opening doors to disease and infection due to poorly functioning body systems. Supplementing everyday with a multivitamin/mineral is important for everybody, especially for you picky eaters, dieters, “eat on the go” kind of people and those who know they are not eating consuming many fruits/vegetables. Last but not least are Digestive enzymes. Digestive “juices” are naturally stored in our liver and pancreas and help us break down food so the nutrients can be properly digested and absorbed by the body. These enzymes are also present in all fruits and vegetables (especially pineapples and papaya), which means that natural produce basically digests itself with little or no help from our bodily stores. When we consume too

much cooked food, our bodies have to work overtime, secreting a mass amount of enzymes to digest the food. Over time, our stores get less and less (especially when we drink while eating) and we start to experience things like weight gain, allergies, bloating/gas, stomach upset, fatigue and constipation. A full spectrum enzyme will help alleviate digestive disorders, give you more energy, and take some of the stress off your liver and pancreas and most of all, promote youthfulness and longevity. Yes I said it, preserving your enzymes can in fact help you live a longer and healthier life!! Remember to NEVER purchase your supplements at the Pharmacy, always go to a health food store where their products are cleaner and effective, brands that I use include AOR, New Chapters, Natren and Genestra.

RICHIE FLO RELEASES HIT SINGLE “BABY”

S

ince releasing his current hit single “Baby” Adyktive Entertainment artist Richie Flo has received quite a bit of attention. Currently holding a position on the Canadian Reggae Charts, “Baby” has been a crowd pleaser at all the Festivals Richie Flo performed at throughout the summer. His fans followed him from the Irie Music Fest to Redemption Toronto Reggae Fest then to the 25th anniversary celebration of Jamaica Day. “I feel blessed for all of the support” said Richie Flo when

he was asked about performing both days on the Redemption Toronto Reggae Fest. “It is very humbling to get so much love from my community, and I will continue to work hard and make good music”. With eyes on Richie Flo he wants to do more and keep delivering with performances enjoyed by many. “I hope everyone will come and enjoy themselves at my video release party on November 10th at the Lula Lounge located at 1585 Dundas Street West”.

n like a lion and out like a lamb, is the easiest way to describe the summer in Montreal! Starting off with the “I Will Survive (Part 2)” Live Show starring Ijah Iba and many other talented Montreal based artists. Then just a few days later there was “The Taste of the Caribbean” a weekend long event down at Montreal’s historic Old Port with Morgan Heritage headlining the event with Canada’s own Mikey Dangerous, Elaine Lil’ Bit Shepherd and many others. Just a week later was Montreal’s Jamaica Day! For the 34th edition, Lady G and Stacia Fya headlined the event along with Jah Cutta, Aphtanan and many others not to mention 5 amazing live bands! The beautiful thing about Jamaica Day in Montreal is that it’s a free event welcoming

everyone to learn about Jamaica, its culture, its people, its food and best of all its music. Few weeks later Montreal had a Dance Hall Queen competition, hosted by Stacia Fya. Special big up to Julie aka Jules Jaminese who took home the crown! The Montreal International Reggae Festival was next! This year’s line up was fantastic with Shabba Ranks, Lady Saw, Cocoa Tea, Taurus Riley and many others headlining this weekend long event. There were also many Canadian artists represented! Unfortunately, my credentials were not accepted this year, so I can’t say much on how the event went. But maybe next year! Lastly, Montreal hosted its first Rastafest. What has been a Toronto favourite finally made its way to Montreal. The support should have been better but nuff respect to the promoter! Contact: bkpro66@hotmail.com.

Performances will be by Natural Fyah & Ras Penco from Jamaica. Follow Richie Flo @realrichieflo on Instagram.

REGGAEXCLUSIVE BAND / GROUP SPOTLIGHT

NUBIAN FUSION BAND

I

n July 2013, Kevin Anthony Brown - Music Media Marketer & PR Agent, decided he wanted to make a change to the music industry in Jamaica, seeing that the standard and passion of Jamaican Reggae Music was losing its place. Kevin realized that it may need a change in regards to the quality of Reggae music coming out of Jamaica, so he went on his long faithful search for talented female musicians. Kevin realized that women in the music in Jamaica had been exploited and weren’t given a fair deal in the growth and development of Reggae.

Hence the creation of Nubian Fusion Band; the name Nubian Fusion came about because Kevin wanted to showcase to the world the real natural, black and talented Jamaican women who believe in self-reliance, creativity and strong mindedness. The word Nubian symbolize that this band is all natural black African Jamaican

women who came together from different back grounds, life styles, minds and visions to fuse as one body going in the same direction. The band consists of women aged 17 – 25 from different parishes of Jamaica, Clarendon, St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Catherine. Nubian Fusion Band is a straight Reggae Band. The band is currently working on its first album to be ready for a promotional tour coming up in November 2015. This album will be the first in the history of Jamaica music that an all female band will be making their own album; playing, writing and producing their own material. The band is looking at doing promotional tours in the Caribbean, Central America (Costa Rica), Italy, France, Madagascar and West Africa soon. Persons across the world can contact or keep up with Nubian Fusion Band by going to: artistecard/nubianfusionband.c om or contact Kevin Anthony Brown at: 1 (876) 398-6066.

Just over a year after the police raided the Dance Club at Shaw & College Street and locked Duke up in the station jail, when he got back to the Club the next day and saw how they had smashed up his Sound, he broke down and cried. “I do know this for sure, there is not another Soundman or DJ in Canada dead or alive that has been to jail as much I did for playing Reggae Music”, said Duke. This however only made Duke stronger and he kept pushing forward to make sure the roots were well planted. Therefore, any DJ or Sound coming out of Ontario, Canada, owes their existence to the Duke Reid reggae fever of 1971 to 2015 and beyond.

“I have asked myself this question; how do I feel to be a legend? First, I must say I am blessed, without the blessing

There were 5 Sounds; Cole Supersonic, Sir Harry, Roy Pinnock, Count Reco and Sir Algie’s. They all played 90% American records. I said

things will have to change and then along came Canada’s first Reggae Sound ‘Duke Reid’. If it wasn’t for Basement Dance, reggae music would not have taken roots in Canada. This was the beginning of a phenomenal era. We imported records from Jamaica, the UK and USA. We played a lot of English Reggae, Ska and Rock Steady. That is how the market was won over in Toronto and the rest of Canada. Today, most radio stations in Canada are playing Reggae Music. We trust the youth of today will keep the reggae flame burning as there are a lot of miles more to go.” Duke Reid foundation crew includes King Jammy, The Ramsey Brothers, Wilson Shortman, Neil Dubrick, Big Roy Reid, Curtis Leeky, Brooklyn (Banky) and Author to name a few. REGGAEXCLUSIVE CHAT he was very impressed with the production. He was the one who suggested the name and I endorsed it. RX: Tell us about the making of the album? reetings Rastafari sons and daughters, love to all the houses. I would like to take the opportunity to wish one and all, a blessed Ethiopian New Year. For this issue, I would like to include some significant quotes pertaining to Ethiopian and African pride. Many of you have shared these inspirational messages before, but it’s a joy for us to reiterate them for those who have not had the benefit of hearing the word sound and power. According to the Western or Gregorian calendar, the Ethiopian New year or Enkutatash is celebrated on September 11th (or during a leap year, 12 September). Ethiopia still follows the

By a calculation the Ethiopian calendar is currently seven years and eight months behind the global Gregorian calendar that is followed in the western world. The month of September is a uniquely special one in Ethiopia. It’s also the first month of the year. Meskerem 01 (September 11/12 Leap year). Roughly two weeks after Ethiopian New Year is another major holiday in Ethiopia, called Mesqel. When King Solomon built the Temple for the worship of the God of Israel, he constructed a section of the Temple called the Mahilet from wh ich came the name of the sacred song. (2) Therefore, it is not only the individual but the community at large which should benefit from the virtues of Education. The words of the Holy Bible, “Give and it shall be given unto you,” are worth observing in your daily lives. (3)Wise men have always known the deep and pervading truth that it is better to give than to receive, for even as it conflicts with selfish and ambitious desires, it moderates and controls them. (4) Giving always demands sacrifice. To overcome the temptation to enjoy mere daily comfort, to press resolutely and patiently forward on the scheduled way, are true tests of the high degree of determination that should bind you together. Memories of past injustices should not divert us from the more pressing business at hand. (5) Colonialism and the policy of racism impose soul searching questions of human rights, weighing equally on the conscience of all men and nations of good-will. History amply shows that the freedom enjoyed by many becomes fragile when the denial, even to

the few, of basic human rights is tolerated. (6) Man’s ingratitude to man is often manifested in willingness to relegate human beings to the scrap heaps of life when they enter the twilight of their careers and younger brains and stronger arms are found to replace them. (7) One important lesson that we have learnt from the experience of the last ten years is that we cannot leave the further progress of African unity to take its own direction at its own pace without active guidance from us. (8) Only he who is informed can comment intelligently on his nation’s development and only by such comments can errors be corrected and progress stimulated. (9) Any who may wish to profit himself alone from the knowledge given him, rather than serve others through the knowledge he has gained from learning, is betraying knowledge and rendering it worthless.

REGGAEXCLUSIVE CHAT song, an Idea in my head to do a track with him. Through a mutual musician friend Owen “Bassy” Rennalls, I was able to link up and play the song for U Roy. He loved it. We then booked time at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Studio got Sly from Sy and Robbie and the other musicians together and as the saying goes “the rest is history”. RX: What inspired you to write this song? Kafinal: The song was inspired by life itself. Throughout our life’s journey we have good, bad, ups and downs. And we have our trials, tribulations and stresses. But once we have life and health and strength to even experience those things we are actually in a place to make things better. So why complain. That’s where it came from.

RX: Tell us how you came up with the name Kafinal and what it means. Kafinal: It’s really a play on the word Cafenol which is an analgesic. So by name and nature it represents me as a vessel that soothes the soul through music.

RX: How is the single doing in Canada and worldwide? Kafinal: The song is doing very well. It is well received globally and is still garnering good radio rotation. It hit number one on several charts worldwide. It had the top spot in Canada for 8 weeks and was number one in the US and Caribbean as well. So obviously I can’t complain about how it is doing.

RX: Tell us about the making of your new single “Nah Complain” with Daddy U Roy. Kafinal: Wow, Daddy U-Roy, what can I say. It’s simply a dream come true doing a track with a Legend who happens to be my mother’s favorite artist, one of Jamaica’s first DJ’s or Toasters. To put it briefly, I just went to Jamaica with a written

RX: You recently received a Trailblazer Award at Jamaica Day 2015 from the Jamaica Day Committee; tell us how you felt receiving that award. Kafinal: It is always a pleasure being rewarded for the work that one does. It was unexpected which made it even better. This shows me that the people are

connecting with what I bring to the table musically through the recordings as well as live performances. It serves as motivation for me to keep on doing great music and to continue growing and improving. RX: Where do you see yourself musically in the near future? Kafinal: I like to set my bar very high so I see myself continuing to put out great music and continuing to connect with the audience which I hope takes me to more chart number ones, Billboard, Juno and Grammy awards to name a few. RX: How about an album or EP? Any plans to release one soon? Kafinal: I am always recording and I have some new songs coming out very soon. The EP is definitely in the pipeline but being a perfectionist and a fan of music I want to be able to create the perfect mix of songs for the people before I release the project. RX: Any other info you want to share with the fans? Kafinal: Shout out to all the fans and you can look out for more good music coming soon. You can get all information on shows, tours and songs through social media and my website. REGGAEXCLUSIVE SOUND SPOTLIGHT

we don’t have, we can go get it ‘live’ the next day. Cybertek Sound is basically a clash sound, we building that sound to become a clash and not just a juggling sound but a straight clashing, because the dubs alone speak for themselves.

CYBERTEK SOUND RX: Why the name Cybertek Sound? DJ Ninelife: It is a sound from Canada, I am one of the selectas along with Bamson and Ramone and the owner name is Fadda Reds.

1669 St. Clair Ave W

416.658.3281

RX: How do you see yourself going into the semi-final round and even winning the trophy? DJ Ninelife: I see Cybertek Sound as one of the good sounds in the competition, we can actually rate because we have all these dubs and the versatility, we are very good and we see ourselves winning the competition. RX: What are you bringing to the competition? DJ Ninelife: We bringing a whole heap of energy, style and flavor, plus we have all the dubs; any dub

(Between Silverthorn & Caledonia Rd.) competition? DJ Neil: I’m bringing a level of experience, maturity and a great knowledge of music.

O’Neil Cross aka DJ Neil

RX: What are you looking for from the competition? DJ Neil: Exposure; being that the competition is being streamed live and shown on You Tube that would make everyone see me and know the type of music I play. We need to bring back the foundation aspects of the music and pay homage to the forefathers.

BLACK STONE SOUND RX: Who is Black Stone? DJ Neil: Spider is management and I am the Selector. RX: How do you see yourself going into the semi-final round and even winning the trophy? DJ Neil: Piece of cake; if we stick to the guidelines and rules that we were given, piece of cake. RX: What are you bringing to the

RX: How does it feel to be a part of this competition? DJ Neil: It feels great. Really great. RX: Where do you see yourself going from here? DJ Neil: Maybe getting a few calls to Jamaica and go overseas so I can get to show my showmanship. I would like to big up Sugar T from African Crystal Sound System, Spider and the whole Black Stone family, Plunder; who was the one that got me started and DJ MS. Respect to all.

LOVE PEOPLE SOUND RX: Why the name Love People Sound? Sean Linja: The initial name was LP Digital, but there was already a Sound in New York City called LP so we took the name Love People. RX: How do you see yourself going into the semi-final round and even winning the trophy? SEAN: Very comfortable, we know there are reputable sounds that will give us steep competition, but sound for sound we feel very comfortable with the caliber of music we have, our knowledge of the music and the talents of the selector and emcee combination, yeah, we are definitely taking home the trophy. RX: What are you bringing to the competition?

RX: What are you looking for from the competition? DJ Ninelife: Basically exposure, Cybertek Sound is not one of the big names in the business so we are looking that exposure right now to become one of the names in the music dancehall clashing thing, like the Matterhorn and the Fyah Lynx. RX: How does it feel to be a part of this competition? DJ Ninelife: It feels wonderful, so far so good, it’s running smooth and we like it. RX: Where do you see yourself going from here? DJ Ninelife: I wouldn’t mind travelling the world with this clash thing you know, we want to go far and see our name everywhere. Big up the whole of Waterford, Cybertek Team, Canada, Cash Global, Bamson and Ramone. Sean Linja: We are bringing a general use of dancehall music, but we have such a wide knowledge of different genres of music that we do a compilation of different types of genres and remix with the dancehall music, so we feel like we will outshine the other sounds in the competition RX: What are you looking for from the competition? Sean Linja: Exposure, and a chance to play some of the music that we cannot play internationally. RX: How does it feel to be a part of this competition? Sean Linja: It feels great to be a part of it because I didn’t buy my way to the status I have now. RX: Where do you see yourself going from here? Sean Linja: We are a contestant in the US Rumble in Amazurra in Queens NY, the winner of the US Rumble will represent the USA in the World Clash also the UK Cup Clash. World Clash is my ambition. Big up all my people from the USA and Jamaica, the whole team, everybody who say Love People Sound, manners and respect.

REGGAEXCLUSIVE VIEWS

THE REVOLUTIONARY LOVE JOCK ADDRESS Music: take it for what it is: A Business Article by: Disc Jock Redeem

K

ingston, Jamaica - Some terms used to describe business are as follows:

commercial, occupational, trade, professional and industry. Such is rarely displayed in the business of music by many independent artiste and producers. This could be a result of mere ignorance, the lack of knowledge that music is “a business” which only 10% of the artiste talent is a factor; the remaining 90% is the business of how to market the 10%. I was moved to address this matter based on seeing this continuous trend, where independent artiste and producer think it’s the more songs they record and produce which will make them successful in the business of music. Such individuals tend not to take the time to comprehend the business and in turn refuse to pay those who have knowledge of the

business. Taking into context the words stated above for business, may bring forth some awareness to those who see not to approach music as a business. Commercial; that which is connected with trade and making money. What the movers and shakers in the business looks for is not how talented you are, how well you can sing, rap, deejay or play an instrument; that is a drop in the bucket. What they are interested in, is how you can make them make money. Your marketability, what about you that people will want or gravitate to. Is it your look, your figure, your personality, your style, your sound? Knowing what stands out for you, what persons like about you, will help to make you marketable.

A key factor to business is, demand and supply. If persons don’t like it, they won’t buy it. Occupational; what you do to earn, “your job”. Many independent artiste and producer do not treat music as such. They tend not to make projections or set time lines for what they are working on, it’s normally a case of “when it finish it finish, but I’m going try and finish it as soon as I can”. In addition to that, they tend not to complete one project before moving on to another. Another thing which is a major blunder for many is not turning up on time for studio session, events etc. If music is what you really desire to do, make it your job. In the next article, I will see to address the remaining terms or factors of business.

REGGAEXCLUSIVE CHAT represents for all the single independent ladies who still have dreams and love their hustle. She also enjoys having a lil fun. RX: Tell us about the making of your new single “So Into You”. TIFFIE: Ok well let’s see. The song was produced by Suku of Ward 21.. I have been working on this particular song for the last 5-6 months. Excited its ready to go!

TIFFIE RELEASES HOT NEW SINGLE ‘SO INTO YOU’

RX: Did you write the song and if so, who or what inspired you to write this song? TIFFIE: This song was actually written by Andrew Grayson aka Faze, whom I work with a lot. I brought the riddim to him and right away he asked me what feelings I got from hearing the riddim.

RX: Tell us who Tiffie is and what she represents. TIFFIE: Tiffie is a very strong independent young lady. She

RX: What promotional plans do you have in place for the single and where do you see it reaching?

TIFFIE: Empowerment Media group has started “So Into You” campaign that will go till about the mid of October when the actual song drops. The video for this is actually shooting this weekend. I am hoping that this project opens a lot more opportunities for me.

RX: Advice to young females in the industry? TIFFIE: My advice to any young females in the industry would be – ‘see your vision and execute. Don’t let anything get in your way and most of all ‘keep dem legs closed’ they will have to respect you more.

RX: Tell us about the making of your new mix tape. TIFFIE: Okay, well the making of the mix tape came from when I actually came back from my trip to Jamaica. I got a lot of great feedback on my EP out there and people were asking for more music. One of my favorite Djs from Jamaica - DJ Dalvy offered to do a mix tape. I thought it would be cool to throw on some of Toronto’s artists and call it “Toronto Invasion”.

RX: Anything else you want to share with your fans? TIFFIE: Yes! I have another new single called “Ina Tdot” also written by Faze, this song came about as I was doing the mix tape called “Toronto Invasion”. I didn’t have any songs representing Toronto so the idea was perfect. I have a lot of promotional plans for this song but you gotta stay tuned to find out. To my fans, thanks for the support and stay connected on IG: tiffiesworld; Twitter: @tiffiesworld; BBM 51B73A78; Facebook/ tiffiesworld; youtube.com/ tiffiesworld01. Tiffie - “Ina Tdot” video is on Youtube.

RX: Where do you see yourself musically in the near future? TIFFIE: Hopefully signed to Beyonce’s label (laughs).

REGGAEXCLUSIVE CHAT

NATTY B HEALING OF THE NATION JUICE BAR RX: Why the name “The Healing of the Nation Juice Bar”? NB: The idea came out of the Zion Train program; we had a segment called the ‘healing of the nation’ with Dr Tricia Edwards (aka Chatta) and Jah Chozen, every week we

looked at different health issues and Dr Edwards would give natural solutions to most ailments. I learned a lot regarding supplements, minerals and vitamins; I also learned that raw foods were the best foods to eat and being a Rastaman I’ve always wanted to do juicing, even before I got into music I wanted to open a Juice Bar. But Jah led I down the musical avenue and once that started to dwindle, I came back to my first love which is health, food and juicing RX: What juices do you offer? NB: The base of the juice bar is fruits, natural organic fruits are essential. The requirements are that you should have at least 4 servings of fruit per day, and the key is our supplements, we specialize in a variety such as spirulina, chlorella, ashwagandha, irish moss, tiger nuts, tong kat alie, you name it. We have to take these

supplements today because the minerals in our food supply has been depleted. So we mix up the smoothies and then we add in our spirulina and our maca, another one of our key supplements for men which gives energy. We also have medicine, herbal remedies and combinations. A lot of our people are suffering from diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressures, we have our black seed oil which is an excellent remedy, it performs the same duty as Metformin which is one of the most prescribed Type 2 diabetic drugs on the market today. But Metformin comes with a slew of side effects just like any Babylon drugs, black seed oil is a natural seed, when crushed the oil made from it does the same duty as Metformin, without the side effects RX: So you recommend natural herbs for healing as opposed to synthetic drugs? NB: The first book of the Bible

in Genesis Jah say he has given man every herb bearing seed that yield forth fruit that it shall be for meat and for medicine, so we know that every ailment that mankind has faced from the creation up until this day, there is a remedy for it in nature, but because we live in a world today where these pharmaceutical companies are all about making profits and money off of people. Look at cancer for instance, one cure they have for cancer is chemotherapy and radiation which kills the bad cancer cells, but it also kills the good cells and we need those good cells. I believe the ratio is that 90% of the people who go through chemotherapy and radiation, the cancer come back with a vengeance, and inevitably they die. Versus nature, you take something like a sour sop leaf, or a guinea hen weed, an apricot seed, these things are all cancer remedying agents. (See Dec 2015 for more)
