PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The design was intended to be the dematerialization of the building to the person who observes from the beach, creating open plans and glazing to the east, leaving the spaces most closed to the west. We opted for the creation of a base, yet soft, to the whole building and terrace area allowing an elevation over the territory, thus achieving a greater visual projection on the beach, emphasizing the connection to the village and to the sea. We designed a building composed of three volumes that are tied together at the entrance, which also provides connection to the outdoor deck, where you access the building. Each volume consists of different spaces yet they all complement each other. The public areas are located in both lower and longer volumes that are open to the East, projecting himself visually. The third volume, more distant and closed,

integrates

the

service

areas.

The

entrance

is

emphasized by the frame of the most advanced volume, which extends to the access stairs. Regarding to the materials selected, we gave special attention to wood, glass, and white, that relates to the beach, the mountains and sea, and contribute to customization of the various spaces and environments. The base of the building composed of treated timber, based on wooden stakes. The building structure consist of columns and beams in glued laminated wood, treated with insecticide, fungicide and hydro repellent. The coverage is composed of wooden interior lining with vapor barrier, mineral wool insulation and covered externally by simple sandwich panels. The building skin is made of wood panels with two types of finish, treated wood in natural color and white paint. The glazing are framed by aluminum in dark gray, and colorless laminated glass.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This proposal seeks primarily to establish a coherent relationship

with

the place. In

this

specific project, the location of insertion came a key factor in its development mainly by the fact that the sea view and the side with greater exposure to the sun were on opposite sides. In this sense we propose a house that, while it is projected upon the ocean to the north, also opens in search of sun to the south. Taking into account the various constraints and objectives, we propose the creation of a stone wall that rips

the intire house, making the

separation between social and private. This wall is not only the separation but also works as an organizing element of the spaces. It is this element

which are

concentrated

the vertical

access, accentuating it's importance. The house is developed on three floors, with the 1st basement buried incorporating a garage and an office, on the ground floor are the spaces of social, services and private rooms, on the top floor will be integrated leisure and reading areas, always overlooking the sea by the mezzanine over the living room.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Given the specificity of this project, both in terms of its program either in its relation with the rest of the territory, there were taken into consideration several factors, especially given its individual character, being a project of considerable size and importance, even for the region.

The manufacture of craft beer, it's indeed a unique service in our region and it's implementation will strengthen the productive and tourist offer in our municipality, contributing to the reduction of seasonal tourism,

and

development,

the offering

diversity new

and

economic

experiences

to

our

visitors, stimulating new jobs. This particular experience turns out to join not only the aspect of tasting a real craft beer, where you can relish the various aromatic herbs native of Arrรกbida present in the beer, as well as the knowledge aspect through

guided

tours

allowing

to

know

the

production method. Another determining factor in this proposal as stated above, the property is located in an area already consolidated in terms of the amount of existing services. Yet the plot itself, moves away slightly off the main artery, almost looking for a space of his own, that maintaining a good accessibility, can establish a close relationship to nature, in an area characterized by the green and by the view of Arrรกbida's mountain.

Taking into account these aspects, decisive in the development of a solution not only consistent with the site but also in its own organization, we sought to define a program to give an effective response to the client needs, allowing simultaneously to establish

relations

with

the

place,

providing

interaction spaces to visitor, privileging the green areas. In this sense, the building now proposed, intended to mark that territory, not aggressively, imposing to everything else, but coherently through a sensitive architectural language, establishing links with the various elements present, namely the mountain and the surrounding natural areas. It was not intended a static building, indifferent to its context, proposing a very dynamic volumes, punctuating the visitor path, creating expectations and emotions. Another relevant aspect of the building is its materiality, coated with wood almost entirely, looking for patterns and different textures, both outside and inside space, enriching the whole experience to those who visit. Throughout the design phase of this building, It was required a profound research, not only in terms

of

the

production

itself,

particularly

regarding to all the necessary required installation, as well as the organization of the various spaces, being a challenge the articulation between the

visitor's path with all technical areas, as it was a condition

to turn possible guided tours in order to

know the entire craft beer production process. In terms of program, we sought the articulation between

very

distinct

spaces

in

particular

the

manufacturing area itself, a brewery, two offices and the entire storage area required for the activity. He tried to establish a hierarchy relation to the most important spaces, and that they interact with the site differently,

creating

up

at

the

entrance

and

manufacturing zone, a wider and more open area making

the

visitor

reception.

In

contrast,

the

restaurant area relates to outer space with greater intimacy, being oriented to a more green and closed space, looking for privacy. As to the volumetry of the building, we proposed two larger volumes, articulated by a zone of lesser height, which makes the connection between the various spaces. The plant consists of one floor and a basement, and the use of covers for storage and office areas. As stated above, the pedestrian and car access to the lot will be made to the West, by the Caminho Branco street, where a necessary parking area will be created, ensuring all the conditions necessary to access the establishment.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This proposal arises from the interpretation of the various

factors

inhabiting

both

that the

determine place

and

the

way

of

surroundings,

whether by the needs and desires of its future inhabitants, being crucial in developing a solution not only consistent with the site but also in its own organization.

Furthermore the fact that in the property is to be developed a small forest plantation business, presented in the attached plan, so that those two functions had to be well articulated to ensure greater sustainability. Given the conditions, in particular the fact that the house can't be located in the RAN area, covering part of the property, it required a exercise of trying to deploy the house in an area that would guarantee the views of the sea and at the same time respecting the legal constraints.

Another determining factor in this proposal refers to sun exposure, since the south is in the opposite side of the views, which also raised some questions especially in how to reconcile these two elements in favor of the house. So, we opted for a longitudinal volume on the east/west direction, allowing the location of openings either north or south, ensuring the various

compartments

simultaneously

the

enjoyment of sea views and a good sun exposure. In terms of the arrangement of the spaces on the ground floor, we searched to locate the main

compartments

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The villa proposal is developed in two main floors, still having an indented floor rooftop terrace, while maintaining a volumetric similar to the existing dwelling on the adjoining lot.

In this project there was a concern to create glazed spaces mainly in more social areas such as living rooms and dining but also ensure brightly spaces with sun exposure in terms of the private rooms. Thus, the program developed searched to distribute the more private spaces in the recessed portion of the plot and the more social spaces in front of the batch, creating garden and terraces.

Moreover, the creation of terraces contributed to minimize the volumes of the house and increase the exterior spaces given the reduced area of the plot.

We searched for a contemporary architecture language in which the white planes of the roofing terraces, contrast with the glazed areas and plans coated with regional basalt, tearing the plans of the facades.

The entrance area and the garage are marked by the doors, of treated wood strips, as a differentiating element.

The lobby separates the garage volume from the house through a stone wall that crosses it, from outside to the patio at the back of the lot.

At the program level, on the ground floor we proposed a covered parking space (garage) and a open space in the garden area. This floor, with a more social character, consists of a living room with sitting area and dinning area, a kitchen complemented by a pantry, plus a room with a support bathroom. It also sought to create green spaces in the surrounding outdoor areas.

The interior stairs are located so as to reduce the circulation spaces and distribute a more centrally to the 1st floor divisions. This floor consists of a more private room for the family and two suites with bathroom and closet.

These

terrace

areas

allows

enjoying

of

the

outdoors, sun exposure and panoramic views.

The rooftop coverage also has a small indented area that provides access to the terrace and an area of support to the villa, which can be used for storage.

The creation of this small volume is essential not only for access to coverage in terrace, but also shot off harmoniously the volumes of the house, due to the 3 floors gable of the beside building.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This proposal essentially seeks an optimal solution between the

default

program

and

the

creation

of

a

consistent

relationship to the site. In this sense, we opted for a building arranged on four floors, with shops and garage at ground floor and six dwellings distributed across three upper floors. The nearest surroundings already has a density of buildings, mostly of multi-purpose buildings for housing, commerce and services, which have been consolidating the avenue, which is also an important road connecting to other clusters and is therefore one of important factors in developing this project. The project also took into account various factors considered relevant in its surroundings, including important elements in the territory, as is the religious building from the 50's, the Mother Church of Corredoura, and from a more distant but no less important, the Castle of Sesimbra . Also the visual projection on the upper floors of the valley of the Seven Paths to the south and the mountains, and in particular the Mill, are important elements that contrast with the densified urban image. Moreover, the location of building on the main artery of Santana, which already has a lot of movement, could become a problem in particular for the residential spaces. In this sense, the idea of this building is to create an element that marks the Avenue, since it is located near the new roundabout, giving it some formality and sobriety contrasting with the nearby surroundings, and while most can contemplate the distant surrounding. This formal character is transmitted primarily by the more restrained and closed image of the building, which retains its facade in the foreground, in line with the Avenue.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The present proposal, for the construction of a commercial building, seeks mainly to respond effectively to the needs highlighted by the client in order to complement the existing workshop space existent in the adjoining land, which the client also owns, with a store space and warehouse, both essential to the further development of its activity.

The need for this spaces becomes more evident over the growth of the activity itself, seeking to his statement in the provision of services in the region, being in this sense, a contribution to the diversity and economic development of the county.

In terms of the organization of the inside spaces, keeping in attention the program defined with the client, it was decided to create a evident separation among the public and office areas on level 0, and the warehouse area , downstairs. The office area will include a support office to commercial activity, and a room for occasional meetings.

Taking into account the urban environment of the building, we propose a discrete volumes but also balanced not only in terms of public space as with the surrounding remaining. Also in this context, and given that the morphology of the terrain does not allow the definition of a single floor, at street level, it was proposed that the remaining building was developed in basement, thus minimizing its impact on site.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In terms of volume and because of the constraints offered by the terrain, either by its size or by its shape, compelled us to be more careful in the implementation of the house, in particular in its relation to the surroundings, seeking a spatial and visual continuity between the inner house, the environment and outdoor spaces now proposed. In this sense, we located the social and service spaces on the ground floor, connected either with the view to the West or to the central courtyard proposed, and the top floor, more private, integrating the family rooms , which sought primarily to sun exposure and overlooking the sea. In this context, and given the very solar orientation, sought to define two distinct zones in terms of views and exposure. On the one hand an area that relates to the West with the view and the other an area more facing south in search of warmth and sunshine, thus achieving a recreation area next to the living room and garden more enjoyable. Thus, housing turns his back on the east, projecting visually for the view to the west, and south to the courtyard,

being

much

greater relationship between exterior and interior.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Considering the area of intervention, the program pre-set with the client as well as other physical and legal constraints, it is proposed the change and rehabilitation of two existing houses on the property trying to meet the needs of its future inhabitants, with particular attention not only to the organization of the interior spaces as well as in how they articulate with the surroundings. One element to note is definitely an old lime kiln that exists on the place, proposing to his recovery and rehabilitation so that it is assumed as a reference to those arriving at the property. For the alteration and rehabilitation of the two existing homes, our proposal primarily seeks to ensure the conditions necessary for its livability and use by the client and his family, and for that needed some "fitness" given the existing low areas. In the mentioned first house, we propose one house unit spread across three divisions rooms, kitchen and 2 IS, and the second house, also proposed the creation of one house unit but it spread over only 2 divisions rooms, kitchen and IS. In relation to outdoor spaces, the proposal also seeks to emphasize and highlight certain aspects and features of existing buildings, particularly in terms of materials and coatings, thus achieving maintain the characteristics of a country house. However, it was also our desire to integrate some current materials, thus achieving not only maintain its original characteristics

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This project comes from a reflection on that act of living itself, taking into consideration the various aspects that may determine whether it is the needs and wishes of its future inhabitants or by the place and environment and how these may influence the project . In this sense, and looking for a volumetric that integrated onsite, we opted for a house organized over two floors, maintaining a relationship in terms of heights, balanced with the other built environment. We also sought to protect the house from the adjoining street, thus ensuring the necessary privacy to the main interior spaces. The access to house is made by East / North, thereby releasing the spaces in the South and West areas for leisure and garden. Therefore, we propose for

the

North / East side, a facade quite closed, with few openings and on the other hand, in the South / West, a facade much more permeable, looking not only for a higher relation between inner and outer spaces, as well as the enjoyment of the sunlight. The entrance zone is specially designed in terms of its location, where we sought to place the lobby in a central area, thus ensuring a good distribution to the social and functional areas, as well as a small office and the stairs to the upper floor where the family bedrooms are located.
