INSTALLATION BASICS Paving Stones

STEP 1: Site Preparation and Excavation. Determine finished elevation using stakes and string line. Excavate soil to ideal project depth.

STEP 2: Base Preparation.

STEP 3: Screeding the Sand.

Spread 4" of paver base. Use a plate compactor to create a rigid base. Add 1" of pave sand on top.

Pull the pile of sand towards you creating a level sand bed before laying the pavers.

STEP 3: Leveling and Laying Stones.

STEP 4: Laying and Compacting the Stones Lay first paver in the corner of the walkway. Use edge restraint to keep pavers from moving. Sweep paver sand across the walkway filling joints.

Lay stones side by side and check for level. Stack additional courses with the bond staggered on the course below.

STEP 4: Use a hammer and a mason’s chisel to score the stone on all sides except the face. Pound the chisel on the score line until it breaks.

STEP 1: Site Preparation & Excavation Use water hose or string line to determine placement of edgers. Mark installation area with spray paint; remove enough sod to bury the bottom of your edger stone 2 - 3 in.

STEP 2: Base Preparation Once shallow trench is dug, lay in 1" paver sand and level.

STEP 3: Placement of Edgers Place edgers end-to-end into trench and compact soil around stones for stabilization.

Remove grass from area to be laid with Pavestone Company patio product. Build a frame for your patio or walk with aluminum or plastic edging (redwood or treated lumber can also be used). Patio should slightly fall away from home.
