B-612

01.

Use: public space Location: Matosinhos, Portugal Grade: Master Year: 2019-2020 Type: final thesis project Teacher: Adelino Magalhaes, Jose MarĂa Lapuerta

The monumental sound of a distant horn warns that something is approaching from the sea. You begin to make out a silhouette in the background, and your head generates the prejudiced perception that what is approaching is a huge white and blue cruiser. Don't be fooled. I am not white or blue, nor am I a huge cruiser. I am B-612, an asteroid or a vitamin. I am the germ of whatever you want me to be. Because I am a heterotopia. This project is the result of a reflection on the new monumentality. Something variable in time, cultures and societies. The fetish object of this new monumentality will be the cruise. The cruise has it all and it is everything; and that is precisely what makes him so Foucaultian. The project is conceived as a support for coexistence between different programs, volumes and experiences. Raise events that are part of people's traditional imaginary in an unusual context. Let the geometric, spatial, constructive and structural solutions provide that atmospheric condition of goal reality. This meta-reality needs support. In 2017, the bbc published the sale for 5.5 million dollars of a container ship built seven years earlier for 60 million. The reason for this devaluation is simple: many ships for very little cargo. Above: First sketches Below: General plan, situation

It is decided to reuse this naval mega-structure as support for the project. A container ship is a complex but simple to operate structure. The monohull acts as a beam that continues to be subjected to the variable actions of the sea. The support distinguishes two families of basic structural elements. The frames are parallel, metallic elements, concatenated and welded every two meters, that build the perimeter. The bulkheads are large vertebrae that brace the sides of the ship. They have a variable width between one and two meters and are perforated to allow the passage of people and facilities. The set is perceived as a large compact system on which data such as length, draft, beam, weights or centers of gravity, among others, will be taken into account. The importance of these data resides in the need to parasitize the support with a project compatible with the weight, balance and visibility characteristics of the ship. Some conceptual, philosophical, sociological or cultural references that emerge as a network of programmatic wills that find their germ in heterotopia, hedonism or pop culture are studied.

The ultimate goal is to offer the experiences obtained from the relationship of these references and that have to do with the recreational, the dreamlike, the cultural, the lustful and the scenic. As a great center of worship of leisure, the ship travels unoccupied along the Portuguese coast and docks in the port of your city to offer its inhabitants a totally new conception of public, recreational, recreational and architectural space. A series of neat and compact programs are established. From bow to stern we find: a swimming pool complex, a spa with hydrotherapy, a shopping area, a drawers auditorium, a projection space and a party room. These programmatic focuses are wrapped in platforms conceived as the public urban space in which flows and experiences see their borders blur and their possibilities multiply. They are designed with continuous lines, organic limits and different spatial configurations. On these platforms, pieces of urban furniture are placed that configure different environments, mobile restaurants, ephemeral stages and toilets. The structural and constructive solutions are not a consequence of the plot principles of the project, but are an inherent part of these. The ship has been emptied and some bulkheads have been drilled. This skeleton is first reinforced with metal flats frames that strengthen the bulkheads of the monocoque structure, and reinforcements in the perpendicular direction that improve the resistance capabilities of the monocoque in this new double-hull system. Once drilled and reinforced, the structure that supports the functions of the program and the use of the project is designed, distinguishing two main families:

Elements. Relation and delvelopement. Axonometric.

Complex perspective render

PROJECTS - ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO PABLO VIVES

The platforms are solved with a cubic matrix of 6 meters of edge that expands in the three directions of space. It is designed with hollow tubular steel profiles that support the slabs of the platforms and are solidified when they also assume the loads of the program volumes. The second family meets these volumes. Main structures of wooden frames and frames braced with metal profiles are proposed that also serve as support for the substructures of the floors, facades and roofs.

Partial enclosures with acoustic treatment, protection against rain and wind, or that allow the tempering of some spaces and, in some cases, light, textile and practicable covers are proposed. Furthermore, the auditorium is supported by a system of hydraulic cylinders that transmit the loads directly to the support structure and allow the entire volume to be arranged at different levels of the project. In this way, the auditorium is a versatile space that allows the settings of the show to be varied both in the scene and in the spectators. The vegetation underlines the vocation of urban space with which the project is designed. It appears in the form of gardens, tree pits and creepers. The project is finished with a system of covers that offer shade on the platforms and collect rainwater. For this purpose, the covers are supported on the structures of the downspouts. The four lower floors are technical or service. The first manages the arrival and delivery of goods. The next two are for parking use. The latter houses the entire network of facilities. Energy efficiency and environmental control are the main protagonists of the project. In this plant the water, air and electricity networks are organized. The solar thermal and photovoltaic collectors satisfy the demand for electrical and heat energy of the project. The control of spills is managed by installing a large biodigester that collects the ship's organic waste and transforms it into biodiesel for the boilers and fertilizer for the green areas. B-612 is a social catalyst that connects with your city and offers new forms of urban and leisure space. A bundle of possibilities where urban, social, spatial and cultural realities mix and alter, opening up new horizons to old standards. Like a manifesto in which the reinvention of all architectural stigmata warns of its arrival with the monumental sound of a distant horn approaching from the sea.

The project is proposed in a building that is part of the historical heritage of the center of the city of Madrid. This area of the city has a very dense urban layout in which a lack of public space is detected. Here we have the first function that the intervention must satisfy. Then we must find a private program that helps finance the public project and therefore can benefit from it. In addition, a relationship is sought between the backyard of the Palace in which one must intervene with the school that faces it and with the street and the front plaza with which the main facade of the palace adjoins. Finally, a newly built building must be projected in a demolished part of the palace. The laboratory program is studied. The biotechnology laboratories are fundamental for the progress of agriculture and the advance in the research of the species. In addition, it is a program that can benefit from a privileged place in the city, a preexisting building as an infrastructure for the breeding of the species, and a free site for the necessary modern facilities. It also has an educational component that favors its relationship with the school, and a link with plant species that manifests the relationship with a public park that also serves as a lung of the neighborhood and a place of social interaction for the neighbors. The palace has three floors. The first is left as is and is used to host activities organized by the city council for citizens. The second is released with a mega-structure that supports a semi-interior park that also acts as a lobby, access and circulation of all adjacent programs and connects them together. The third modifies its enclosure to house the species greenhouse for the laboratory that is projected with an extensive structural system of the park and houses all the technical facilities of the laboratory.

From the top: Process and idea diagrams, complex floor plan, 3D rhinoceros process sequence.

PROJECTS - ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO PABLO VIVES

P.A.C.O. Use: public space & nomadic residence Location: Stockholm, Sweden Grade: fourth Year: 2018 Type: project Teacher: GinĂŠs Garrido

How can an urban development system be equipped to deal with population fluctuations? Project P.A.C.O. proposes a promotion of modular, editable and adaptable room capsules; in a pseudo-nomadic community project that grows around public volumes that are part of the project and share the constructive, formal and project method. Today everything is blurred. Time alters the deadlines for any circumstance. Everything is editable, variable, perhaps diffuse. Everything is based on the social progress that leads us towards interaction and the variable of things. The public and the private intermingle and the time periods become variable. Project P.A.C.O. pursues all this social revolution. Everything we welcome and what we adapt to. With transportation, online shopping, clothes, summer accommodation, social networks, dating websites ... Knowing, sharing, buying and living have become acts subject to cyber activity. And P.A.C.O. wants to take it to habitability and architecture.

14

A light, modular, extensible and phased network is proposed; public and adapted to the population of a specific place and time. At the center of this network are the public catering facilities, multifunctional space, discotheque, bicycle parking or museum. Around this nucleus grows the "village" of personalized capsules that are attached to the network of infrastructure proposed at the beginning.

Berlin is a city of contrasts, full of social activity. There is a lot to investigate and to know. When a project is proposed in Berlin, it is exciting to work in such a changing and dynamic city. There's only one problem: I do not know Berlin. The research phase of the project takes this inconvenience and makes it the basis of the course. The exploration of a city and its spaces only through virtual stimuli. Instagram and Facebook photos, the tweets. All this opens the way to a virtual drift through the streets of Berlin until I get a very strong perception of their spaces. There are probably curious differences between real space and my purely abstract perception. This contradiction of discovering a city from the solitude of your room is used as a project tool. Graphical drawings and interesting diagrams are obtained and will be used for the social capacitor project in Berlin. The project twin different spaces associated with current trends. All mixed in a large structure Frankenstein typed in which each room has its own identity. The user leaves the project with all the viral "Instapics" that he or she can imagine. Use: multiple, production Location: Cobo Calleja, Madrid Grade: third Year: 2016 Type: project Teacher: Almudena Ribot, Enrique Espinosa

Exodus does not exist without a city. A succession of investigations, critiques, philosophies and social experiments that propose the generation of a limit, which paradoxically is response, solution and freedom. A border that separates the city in the good and bad parts. A planned wall of clear and practical functions and forms. A resounding morphology that imposes the control of a society by a dictator: Rem Koolhas. Its new version is born from taking Exodus to today, to practice and to Cobo Calleja. Three impositions that redefine the proposal and make it their own. Exodus emerges as the extreme anointing of the bad side of London and a promise of prosperity for the good, new, created side. What if Exodus does not turn the vulnerable into death or the good into the only hope? And if it is not a funnel that calls us and shouts "come, I will improve you and you will live in me"? To change the isolationist sense, somewhat gloomy and discriminatory, some arguments are changed. So that the architecture does not supplant the architecture, but complements it, without losing the radicality of the gesture or intention. The band is no longer a funnel but a filter. It does not generate extremes but it watches over the balance. The flow is 2.0, bidirectional. Exodus is studied as a potential open building, which grows and changes to satisfy needs, solve problems, and maximize its qualities. Exodus is no longer pursued, Exodus, but Reditum return, which heals its sick patient instead of encouraging its decline.

There is a huge wall that closes to the industrial exterior and overlooks a large central courtyard. In the wall, perforations are carried out in which are arranged large arms of houses distributed by means of a corridor. Each house has a double flow with a private corridor and two accesses at the ends of the houses. One to four bedroom apartments are projected through a system of function modules. These modules are combined longitudinally forming the dwelling. In the center, an ecosystem is proposed that contrasts with the arid vegetation of the exterior. There is a leafy park inside with a central pavilion for various activities. A temporary housing project is proposed for visiting professors and lecturers in Ciudad Universitaria of Madrid. This proposal is presented with the premise of studying a proposed architect and trying to emulate or reproduce his project argumentative processes to ours. My architect was Frank Gehry. The architect studies its materiality and use of geometric and volumetric forms to tighten spaces and generate rooms in which the limits of space are controlled but with unorthodox perspective results based on the incrus- tation of volumes and the approach of latent guidelines and unforeseen bursts. The houses are grouped as in a village of small indepen- dent residences around a common patio. Each house is open and has a living or dining space associated with a basic kitchen, a sleeping area and at a higher height a study space. All this is structured around a central bathroom.

BIKE PARKING LOT 10. Use: public space Location: Ciudad Universitaria, Madrid Grade: first Year: 2015 Type: project Teacher: Raúl del Valle

The cycles, proportions and angles; everything that nature or the human hand has created throughout history responds directly to basic criteria of function, aesthetics and method. A modular bicycle parking project is proposed to set out a singular route. The relationship with the context is important. It aims to create a space that has a presence and at the same time flows with its surroundings. The objective of the project, therefore, is to create a transition space for the flow of cyclists that circulate. Create a space away from the evidence of a module closed by four walls. It should positively highlight its interaction with the solar position, being a space that projects shadows in relation to the place itself. It should be a space of organic inspiration for the importance of the natural environment and an open space, which invites exploration and, although destined for bicycles, open to any walker. Given the objectives, the space designed part of a simple module. An oblique rhomboid that resolves into walls, plants and roofs in the same way, which repeats forming an open fractal. The measures of the angles in relation to the dimensions of the modules, allow the appearance of slots between them that, in the cover allow the passage of light, and on the sides, the comfortable support of the bicycles; not being a hindrance in the plant since its measurement does not interrupt the average stride of a person.

Furnishing This page: Stick & Roll, project for MediaLab Prado in collaboration with Conjuntos Empรกticos Next Page: Book Case & desk for an office, private client

We want to propose a series of simple urban furniture for MediaLab. They are adding conditions and factors that sometimes hinder and others define the design. The child as user and the budget mark the idea. We imagine a system of furniture that children could place and superpose in a very intuitive way. Geometric shapes that fit and that, in two heights, form a tapestry with a slight appearance of topography. The workspace is dynamic and variable. We did not want unit seats. Wood pipes are a natural material choice due to their origin, price, resistance and geometric versatility. The seats are rigid, prepared to be used as a seat, podium, atrium, pedestal or stand. The two heights aim for greater versatility of use and posture. With the combination of low or high modules support the feet, approach or move away from the ground or form the various configurations. A geometric, cheerful and striking design for MediaLab children.
