Lady L. Janice Brooks and I send you our love! We have been praying for you and your families that the keeping power of God cover you all. Just this time last year, we were facing a series of life-changing moments around the world. The doors of our churches closed, and many had to learn quickly how to pivot into virtual worship. We were also challenged on many fronts to increase our community ministry efforts, as our neighbors and friends needed resources simply to survive the changing world. Compassion to each other, compassion for one another is what we had to be about over the last year perhaps more than ever before.
The Resurrection Season is always a time for contemplation for me. I think about God’s love, His grace, and His mercy towards us—towards me. I think about how undeserving I am of God’s grace, and how he loved me enough to still die for my sins. Jesus’ death on the cross is a demonstration of His compassion towards us—and demonstrates for us how we should have compassion towards one another. Jesus commands us to love one another as we would our own selves. Indeed, the Word also challenges us to love one another like God loves us. In that, we are to show the same compassion towards one another that God shows towards us daily.
I think it’s so important in this Resurrection Season to think back on what this last year has taught us about making compassion come alive for our communities. Over this last year, we have experienced a revival in love, in coming together, and in creative community efforts. God’s infinite love towards us demonstrated on the cross teaches us to love one another infinitely. I celebrate all of us whom have taken on the needs of the community with the compassion of Christ, and I encourage us to keep driving compassion forward in the world as we embody on the love of Christ towards one another.
Lady Brooks and I are continually praying for you, your loved ones, your churches, and your communities. Happy Resurrection!
