Golden Jubilee Campaign Report · July 1, 1999 – June 30, 2008

Dear Friends of the Priory,

I am extremely pleased to report that the Golden Jubilee Campaign came to a very successful conclusion on June 30th. Having raised almost $3 million dollars in this last year of the campaign, we far exceeded our campaign goal with a total of $23,255,304. This overwhelming success is a tribute to all of you who contributed your time, talents and treasure over the lifetime of this campaign. Due to your amazing generosity, the Priory now has the facilities to offer an even greater variety of academic programs to assist students of promise in becoming lifelong learners.

On November 6, 1999, I was relatively new to the Board when I found myself making a presentation to the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors concerning the need for a Capital Campaign. It was the first time I had met the New Hampshire Directors, Abbot Mathew and Fr. Father Mark; also the first time I had met our campaign consultant, Jeanne Jenkins. Adrenaline was running high and I was relieved, excited, and thankful when the Boards agreed to embark on the Golden Jubilee Campaign.

Campaign Highlights Maas Family Commons ($3,500,000): with the addition of 10 housing units, there is now housing for 25 families on campus. The ability to offer on campus housing goes a long way when recruiting outstanding new faculty members. Chapel Renovation ($250,000): fully funded by our Friends of the Chapel, this wonderful new facility is now sufficient in size to seat the entire Priory community at weekly Chapel services. Endowment ($4,433,693): proceeds will be used for two primary purposes: to ensure competitive faculty salaries and to maintain the Prioryâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s commitment to financial aid for deserving students. Trinity Project ($14,742,242): The crown jewel of the campaign is our new Performing Arts Center. This amazing new facility provides expanded opportunities for students in the performing arts, including drama, dance, orchestra, choir, set design, costume design, digital media production, and technical theater. The Trinity Project also included the Lorry Lokey Library and the Molak Student Center. The library, returned to its original location, greatly increases space for books and student study. The student center encourages greater student involvement by consolidating student activities in a highly visible and well-trafficked area in the center of campus. A few months later the campaign was successfully underway when we received our first $1,000,000 gift. This generous gift, given anonymously by two wonderful Priory parents, provided the courage for both staff and volunteers to approach others and ask for major gifts. On Saturday September 12, 2001, we entered the public phase of our efforts, introducing the Golden Jubilee Campaign to the entire Priory community: parents, alumni, alumni parents, faculty and staff, and friends. While we, of course, considered postponing the kickoff dinner because of the tragic events of 9/11, our faith emboldened us to forge ahead. The wonderful response from those who attended confirmed our decision and gave us the strength to continue. Breaking ground for Faculty Housing gave us an opportunity to wear hard hats, sit on large pieces of construction equipment, and brandish our shovels. Yet it was the love, support, and determination of everyone there that made this a truly memorable event. The dedication of Maas Family Commons was the conclusion of our first capital project. It was exciting and encouraging to know that the Priory had so many generous contributors to the success of this significant project. When we broke ground for the Performing Arts Center, we began the largest and most expensive building project in the Prioryâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s history. The Chapel Addition, originally not a part of this campaign, produced a beautiful building, able to accommodate the entire faculty and student body. Completion of the Lorry Lokey Library and the Molak Student Center ahead of the PAC was a rabbit pulled out of a hat. The cooperation, dedication, and hard work of many people yielded this pleasant surprise. This was a clear sign that we were not alone, that the Lord was with us. Finally, with the dedication of the PAC in the fall of 2007, the first phase of the Golden Jubilee Campaign was complete. We had come a long way from that fateful day in November of 1999. The entire community celebrated, knowing that we had taken a significant first step in maintaining the Priory as an outstanding college preparatory school in the Benedictine tradition.
