SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION 3 The following pages contain the names of those whose gifts were received during the fiscal year July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information. If you have been incorrectly listed or omitted, please accept our apologies. Please notify the Advancement Office at 650-851-6139 or advancement@prioryca.org with any questions or concerns.

Priory

has a blessed history. It is a history of the families, past and present, who have supported the incredible education and formation of young people that has taken place here since 1957.

Priory not only continues to shape the lives of those who walk this beautiful campus as students, but it also continues to shape all of us as educators, parents, alumni, alumni parents, and benefactors. We work to bring to life the great mission of this school to form conscientious leaders who compassionately serve others.

This past year has been one of settling into our traditions and discovering new ways of being together. Together, we are emerging from the challenging experience of the pandemic into this new chapter of life. Throughout our 65 year history, the Priory community has boldly faced each challenge and shifted and adapted proactively. Our community has found inspiration in our Monk’s persistence, determination, and resolve and in the Benedictine tradition that has guided us for over six decades and our world for nearly fifteen centuries.

Ultimately, our mission in Benedictine education is to bring our students closer to understanding who they are through learning, serving, struggling, and developing their gifts and talents. Our students come to know themselves better through their many experiences in and out of our classrooms. This brand of education is what you help us to accomplish through your generous gifts of time, talent, and treasure to support the mission of Priory. The students we are blessed to have in our school year after year are the direct beneficiaries.

Because of you and everyone listed in this annual

report, our students create a hope-filled future for all of us!

Thank you for being members of this community, for caring, and for offering your support.

4 FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
This past year has been one of settling into our traditions and discovering new ways of being together. Together, we are emerging from the challenging experience of the pandemic into this new chapter of life.

Dear Friends of Priory,

On behalf of both the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors, I am pleased to report on the 2021-2022 academic year. The Board is incredibly grateful to the entire faculty and staff as well as the parent community for their steadfast support and commitment to the school and its mission.

On campus this past year, we celebrated the opening of the beautifully architected 6-unit faculty housing complex on Gambetta Lane. We also renovated and re-opened our Kalman baseball field, bolstering our baseball program making this outdoor space on campus truly special. Another crucial initiative championed by parent and trustee Carolyn Putney was the successful fundraising of over $1 million for a Financial Aid endowment created to ensure our program of financial support in perpetuity.

In the spirit of always beginning again, we weathered many changing guidelines and protocols to keep our students, faculty, and community safe with weekly testing and regular status updates from the administration. These efforts were executed flawlessly and graciously by many members of our staff and community. We are all so appreciative of your continued patience and support for these important efforts that resulted in minimum disruption to our daily programming.

Thank you for all you do to support our wonderful institution. We are especially indebted to our Founders Club members, true philanthropic leaders in our community, whose continuous support enables us to plan for and thrive in a complex future that remains full of hope and possibility.

Please know that each and every gift is important, and that each gift makes a difference. Thank you.

The most important, valuable, and tangible way to demonstrate support for Priory is through a gift to the Annual Fund. These essential, unrestricted gifts directly support every Priory student by bridging the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a Priory education.

Our community is small by design, so every gift is important. Every gift makes a difference. Priory’s vibrant culture of philanthropy is evidenced by Annual Fund support. During the 2021-2022 fiscal year, the Annual Fund reached $2.5 million in funds raised. We extend our deepest gratitude to those who gave and made achieving this ambitious goal possible. Thank you.

A Tribute to Paul Trudelle

At the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, Priory said a very fond farewell to Paul Trudelle, who retired after 39 impeccable years of teaching. Paul was the truest embodiment of an educator both as an engaging instructor to his science classrooms and an integral part of the Priory community for nearly four decades.

He and his wife Sylvia raised six children (all beloved Priory graduates) in an on-campus home adjacent to the Baseball Field: his favorite spot to view meteor showers, eclipses, and other astronom ical wonders. In honor of their everlasting impact on the Priory, students, residents, and visitors will enjoy the Trudelle Family Track for years to come.

Paul’s retirement was celebrated with a com munity-wide Farewell Reception on May 27th, a school-wide round of applause as he exited his last class, and a faculty-and-staff-wide standing ovation during the last faculty meeting of the year. Paul and Sylvia have since moved to Utah where many of their children and grandchildren now reside. Thank you, Paul, for dedicating your life to teach ing, nurturing, and inspiring this grateful commu nity of students, colleagues, neighbors, and friends!

Opening Day at Kalman Field

This past March, an enthusiastic crowd gathered to celebrate the opening of the new ly-renovated Kalman Field. Our Upper School baseball team faced off against the Pinewood Panthers in the latter hours of the afternoon for a decisive victory. The excitement was supplemented by concessions, beautiful decorations, and the enthu siasm of the Priory community.

The real highlight, however, was the opening ceremony held to acknowledge the support of benefactors, our athletics team, and of course, our wonderful monks. Along with the blessing of Kalman Field and the traditional standing for the national anthem, parent Randy Vagelos addressed the community with gratitude and inspi ration. Carolyn Putney also offered a particularly moving reflection about the spirit of Priory’s baseball team.

It was through the incredible generosity of our baseball parents that these en hancements, renovations, and celebrations were possible. Thank you all for all you do, and go Panthers!

Priory Celebrates Grandparents Day in Person

On Sunday, March 13, 2022, Priory was thrilled to welcome grandparents to campus for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Grandparents came from near and far, some even traveling from Louisiana, Texas, New Jersey, and Connecticut! The day began with a beautiful brunch in Fr Egon Plaza, where parent event chair Jung Choi spoke about the importance and role of grandpar ents in the lives of Priory students. Fr. Martin offered his blessing for the event, and Patrick Ruff closed out the meal by inviting grandparents to view the allschool musical Urinetown in the PAC later that morning.

After we gathered for a lovely group photo and guided tours of our campus, many opted to see the play. What a wonderful showcase of our talented per formers and techies! We are grateful to the volunteers and staff who organized this community showcase for our grandpanthers.

A Time to Bond

After a two year hiatus, the Priory community came out to bond and support our in-person Gala, Priory Bonds at Sharon Heights Country Club last March. A huge thank you to Co-Chairs Kathy Avery, Julie Sheng, and Hattie Shieh for their tremendous leadership to create a license to thrill for all of our secret agents, Bond girls and villains in attendance.

We are especially proud to report that our Priory community enthusiastically endorsed our 2022 Fund A Future campaign supporting our new Financial Aid endowment. Parents, Parents of Alumni and Alumni joined forces to ensure Priory’s financial aid program remains strong and robust for years to come.

Whether a spin at the roulette table, dancing the night away, or raising a pad dle, nobody does it better…than Priory.

The act of giving is meaningful and impactful. It is also deeply personal. Though the gener osity of our sustaining donors who have given consecutively year-over-year, Priory has been able to meet changing needs and priorities as they arise. In addition to our giving societies, we also provide special recognition for those who have supported Priory every year for five or more consecutive years. Regardless of the amount, an annual gift is a valuable investment in our future.

Gratitude and Appreciation

On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Priory host ed a formal dinner to honor devoted bene factors and top donors. We were thrilled to have the opportunity, finally, to demon strate our gratitude in person. In the words of Fr. Matthew, grateful people are happy people. He shared Meister Eckhart’s adage that if “the only prayer said was ‘thank you,’ that would be enough.”

Priory parent and board member Car olyn Putney was honored with the St. Ben edict Medal. This award is Priory’s highest honor, bestowed to those who have demonstrated exemplary service and unwavering com mitment to Priory. Carolyn’s enthusiasm, commitment, and love consistently make our community better.

Giving to Woodside Priory School

For 65 years, Woodside Priory School has been graced by the presence of our Benedictine monks, driven by the ambi tions of talented teachers and adminis trators and backed by the generous sup port of the school’s donors. The Priory enjoys a robust culture of philanthrophy sustained by your faithful commitment. We are grateful.

Ways to Give

Gifts to Priory may be made by cash, check, credit card or apprecated stock.

STOCKS OR SECURITIES

A gift of appreciated stock offers a twofold tax saving: avoiding capital gains tax on the increase in value of the stock and providing an income tax deduction

for the full market value of the stock at the time of the gift.

MATCHING CORPORATE GIFTS

Many companies offer employees a matching gift benefit that could dou ble the contribution to Priory. Check with your Human Resources Depart ment to see if your employer matches charitable gifts.

GIFTS-IN-KIND

Items may be donated to Priory, such as computers, software, professional services, and athletic equipment, which provide operational savings and meet the specific needs of Priory. The school does not assign a dollar value to giftsin-kind.

PLANNED GIFTS

Donors may consider giving bequests through wills or trusts, life insurance, retirement plan donations and life income gifts. Estate planning can be a way to reduce or avoid estate and inheritance taxes. We encourage you to speak with your financial planner which considering any type of planned gift. We honor those individuals who have made a lasting commitment to our school by including charitable gifts to the Priory in their estate. Those who re member the Priory through a will, trust, designation or other planned gift are invited to join our St. Benedict Society, which recognizes this special form of lasting philanthrophy.
