BEELINE CRUISE-IN CAR SHOW
Rim Country Classic Auto Club’s Beeline Cruise-In This weekend’s 2016 Beeline Cruise-In Car Show and Swap Meet, sponsored by the Rim Country Classic Auto Club, could have up to 300 pre-1990 cars on display in Green Valley Park. The show, now in its 23rd year, is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 30, but expect to see these great old cars cruising around town in advance of the show. In fact, the “formal” cruise around Payson is from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 29. It starts at Green Valley Park, goes west on Country Club, north on Vista and then over to Airport Road, where the cruisers make their way down to the Beeline and then head north, turning onto Tyler Parkway. The drivers move east and south on Tyler to East Highway 260, where they turn west and head back toward the Beeline. At the 260-Beeline light, the informal parade goes north on Beeline to the Payson Elks Lodge.
At the lodge, show participants will enjoy a Burger Burn. Visiting entrants in the show compete for a variety of awards sponsored by local businesses and individuals (members of the RCCAC are not eligible for awards). The Best of honors include: Best of Show; Best Engine; Best Interior; Best Paint; Mayor’s Pick; Police Chief Pick; Host Club Pick; Fire Chief Pick; Gila County Sheriff’s Pick; Long Distance; Best Ford, pre 1948; Best Ford, 1949 or newer; Best GM, pre 1948; Best GM, 1949 or newer; Best Truck, pre 1948; Best Truck, 1949 or newer; Best Street Rod; Best MoPar; Best Studebaker; and Best Sports Car. Honors will also be given the top 20 entries. The awards will be presented at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 30. Sponsors of the awards are: Miller Auto Works, Best of Show; Coyote Automotive, Best Engine;

Car club gives everyone miles of memories The Rim Country Classic Auto Club (RCCAC) had its beginnings in the early 1980s when a few people shared a common interest in restoring and driving classic cars. They cruised around Payson where they met and talked about their cars. The RCCAC organization is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of classic automobiles and street rods as well as participating in and supporting civic activities for the betterment of the community. As the group flourished, the number of members grew. The club was officially organized in 1993. The membership has
dramatically increased over the years, with more than 70 families participating. Within the membership there are more than 100 classic automobiles and hot rods, both restored or in progress. The Rim Country Classic Auto Club members participate in car-related activities ranging from day trips, to breakfast or lunch gatherings to talk cars, taking classic cars to visit local retirement homes or the Prescott VA Hospital, honoring veterans, attending car shows throughout the state, and taking longer car cruises, including the Route 66 Fun Run in Seligman, Ariz.

Learn more at the website clubhemmings.com/RCCAC.
Most folks in Payson know RCCAC through the annual Beeline Cruise-In Car Show that the club holds at the end of April. In 1994, RCCAC members held their first car show with six entrants to help charities in the town of Payson. A recent car show drew more than 225 cars. This event has grown from a small, local event to one of the premier car shows in Arizona. Participants come from many western states to display their cars in a splendid mountain setting. Proceeds from the car show help support a wide variety of local charities. The unpredictable April weather has put
a damper on a show or two, but it goes on. RCCAC club members acknowledge that much of the car show’s success comes from the overwhelming support they receive from the Town of Payson, the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Payson Roundup along with generous businesses in Payson and surrounding towns. The Rim Country Classic Auto Club has its regular meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Tiny’s, 600 E. Highway 260 and all are welcome whether they own a collector’s vehicle or not.

As part of the 50th anniversary of the iconic Ford Mustang, the Rim Country Classic Auto Club made all Mustangs a special feature in the show at Green Valley Park.
Kids Car Show designed to help build dreams The men and women who have so diligently and lovingly sought out and restored the magnificent classic, vintage and antique cars in the 2016 Beeline Cruise-In Car Show want to inspire future generations to hold onto the same dreams they have held dear all these years — because the vehicles on display have to be their dream cars. To do that, they are awarding youngsters, ages 5 to 12, who build their own dream cars from cardboard at this year’s show. Payson Concrete is sponsoring the contest for kids and their cardboard cars. There is still time to enter the Rim Country Classic Auto Club Kids Car Show.

Any child or class can build cardboard dream vehicle for the 2016 Beeline Cruise-In Car Show. There is no cost to enter. The contest is about letting imaginations run wild and getting creative while having fun and being involved in one of the Rim Country’s biggest, most popular events. The event is open to individual children ages 5 to 12, plus vehicles made as a school class project will also be accepted. The vehicle must be made of 100 percent cardboard, but it can be finished/decorated in any material. The vehicle can be no smaller than 36 inches long, 24 inches wide and 18 inches high.
Parents can assist only in using tools that are not safe for children to handle. The child/class is responsible for having their vehicle placed in front of the large ramada at Green Valley Park no later than 8 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016 with a sign, 8-inches-by-10-inches, displaying their name(s) and age(s). Car show participants will select the winners and award plaques and prize money will be awarded: $50 for best of show; $25 for first choice, second choice and third choice. After the 4 p.m. awards, it is the entrant’s responsibility to remove their entry from the park. Call J. Zezima at 928-478-6989 for additional information.

BEELINE CRUISE-IN CAR SHOW
Beeline Cruise-In features fabulous restorations 1951 CHEVY DOTTIE AND TOM GOSSARD Dottie Gossard tells the tale of how this bright, stylish vehicle joined the collection she and her husband have accumulated over the years. “My husband Tom and I were vacationing up in the mountains of California and Nevada a few years ago and noticed this good looking tangelo-colored ’51 Chevy tooling around through Minden, Nev. on our way to Carson City, and there was the tangelo-colored ’51 Chevy parked with a “For Sale Sign” on it. We stopped, took a good look at it wrote down information and for some reason passed on buying it. Probably because I said we really didn’t need another car. The following year we were heading back there and decided to call the owner at the number we had written down the summer before. He said the car was in storage and was still for sale. We went to meet the owner and drive the car. Decided to BUY it. “The car was lacking safety gear — no lap belts, no side mirrors, no windshield wipers and no horn. A hot rod shop in Minden helped Tom put the lap belts in, but the other items he did as soon as we got it home. “It is a custom car — meaning headlights and taillights are “Frenched”; door handles are shaved as well as the hood and deck lid. The corners of hood, doors and deck lid have been rounded. A nice touch is the grafting in of a ’54 Pontiac grill bar. It’s been updated with a Chevy 350 V8, 350 automatic transmission and a late model Chevy rear-end. What especially looks nice is the lowering of the car all the way around making it in the weeds. “American wheels ... liked that look, so Tom and his friend, George, installed power steering for me. Now it’s easy to turn, park, etc. Tom installed a Lokar floor shifter and has added turn signals, and a lot of other things. Because I have two very special doggies, Scarlett my Vizsla and Ollie my miniature Schnauzer that love to ride in My Fun ’51, I had a special seat cover made and installed for the back bench seat. They cannot do damage to the original upholstery that way and can still go on trips and car rides with us ... which they love as well as we do.”
1937 GMC T-14 PICKUP BOUSHON AND DYCHKOWSKI This little 1937 GMC T-14 pickup had its early life as a farm truck in West Bend, Wis., just outside of Milwaukee as far as its current owners know. At some point, someone began to restore and update the truck with AMC Pacer front suspension, Pontiac Ventura rear axle, and fresh paint on the frame. Eventually, interest was lost, or money ran out and it was sold to a drag racer and engine builder named Dave Seeger in Waupaca, Wis. In 2009, plans changed again and it was sold to its current owners, Bruce Boushon and Tina Dychkowski. Bruce added a 350 Chevy engine and 00R4 transmission. It was then brought to Dave Stencil in Scandinavia, Wis. for extensive body work and paint. It now only needs interior work to be finished. GMC has always shared many parts with its Chevrolet cousin since the first GMC pickup rolled off the assembly line in 1936. The GMC specific parts have made this a difficult project due to its much lower production numbers and few reproduction parts available. Also, being a truck, many of them have not survived due to rough use.

1940 DELUXE CONVERTIBLE SANDI AND BYRON GUNDERSON This 1940 deluxe convertible started its transformation in Arkansas and after two owners wound up under the care and stewardship of Craig and Karen Bruns. Almost two years ago Craig and Karen passed this great car on to Sandi and Byron Gunderson for them to be its current stewards, and when the time comes they hope to find someone who will appreciate their time with this car as much as Karen, Craig, and Byron, Sandi.
HAWK ALBERT AND DELORES DUBLE Albert and DeLores Duble have owned the Hawk for about 20 years. The 259 CID V8 engine is stock, except for addition of a Holley 4 bbl carb and a Pertronix ignition system. The interior was redone in 2012 to maroon vinyl, which matches the tail fin insert color and the dash. The car is air conditioned with an after market Studebaker unit, which is extremely helpful with Arizona driving. Mileage of 18 mpg is average with the 3-speed stick in overdrive.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Impatience is still somewhat of a problem. But a sign of progress should soothe the anxious Aries heart. Meanwhile, invest some of that waiting time in preparing for the change ahead. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Bovines tend to excel at solving problems, not creating them. But you risk doing just that if you’re slow to respond to a timely situation. If necessary, seek advice from someone you trust. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) The Gemini Twin might need to do more than a routine check of both a job-linked and homebased situation. Dig deeper for more data on both fronts to avoid unwanted surprises later. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Moon Children facing an important workplace decision are encouraged to use their perceptiveness to see through any attempt to win them over with a supercharge of fawning and flattery. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Good news catapults Leos and Leonas into reconsidering a deferred decision. But time has moved on, and it’s a good idea to recheck your plans and make adjustments where necessary. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) The week favors relationships, both personal and professional. Take the time to look for and immediately repair any vulnerable areas caused by unresolved misunderstandings. LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) A friend’s problems bring out your protective instincts. Be careful to keep a balance between meeting the obligations of friendship without being overwhelmed by them. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) The temptation to take an extreme position on an issue is strong, but moderation is favored both in personal and professional dealings. Move toward finding areas of agreement. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Getting another boss or teacher? Try to see the person behind the image. It will help you adjust more easily to the changes that new authority figures inevitably bring. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Much as you might dislike the idea, keep an open mind about using the assistance of a third party to help resolve problems that threaten to unravel an important agreement. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Music helps restore the Aquarian’s spiritual energies this week. Take someone you care for to a concert of your musical choice. Also, expect news about a workplace matter. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A challenge that seems easy enough at first could take an unexpected turn that might test your resolve. Decide if you feel you should stay with it, or if it’s better to move in another direction. BEELINE CRUISE-IN CAR SHOW
Enjoy flash and fancy at 2016 Cruise-In 1976 CORVETTE STINGRAY DARREL WALLACE From two wheels to four wheels, Darrel, who was a professional bike rider for Harley Davidson of Scottsdale Drill Team, traded his FlhHD for his 1976 Vette. Darrel’s 2002 Road King, in which he had invested upwards of $25 K and was very active all over the country performing precision motorcycle riding. The matching numbers Corvette has been re-painted in Factory Red, has a new complete interior, the 35 has been de-stroked with 202 heads, and with new exhaust, bushings, tie rods, control arms, tires — it has just about been rebuilt from the ground up. The Vette shows well with about 98,000 miles.
1971 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS CONVERTIBLE JULIUS ZEZIMA Julius Zezima’s 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible is a COPO {Central Office Production Order} originally ordered by Mr. J.B. Fitzpatrick, financial vice president for General Motors Division of Chevrolet. In the day the GM executives could only keep their fleet cars for 90 days and then they had to be sold. Liz Zimmerman, Fitzpatrick’s secretary, bought it for her retirement. It was completely restored in 2001 and sold through the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale and placed in a private collection. The vehicle was appraised by California Auto Appraiser, Jeff Hyman with documented numbers matching LS-3-396 cu in engine, with factory air, and 31 factory options {some not available on the Chevelle model}. The vehicle has less than 50,000 original miles and documentations including the original factory build sheet and GM letter. The vehicle is mostly original, a blast to drive and shows well in the Muslane blue with white top and black interior.
