Your favorite number and why? That’s an easy question for me! 19! It was the day I meet my future husband, we got engaged and almost had our first son!

How would your parents describe you as a child? Hum, a silly and dramatic funny girl! I loved to put rubber cockroaches in my mom’s bed at night. I thought it was so funny! Summer or winter? Defiantly summer! I am a fish! Cats or dogs? I’m not a cat lover at all! I think they are too boring for me! I love dogs! My favorite breed is the Beagle!

“Dear Editor, I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, If you see it in The Sun it’s so. Please tell th t th i your th little Editor : “VIRGINIA, friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except [what] they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge. Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no romance to

make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight.

The eternal light with which childhood fills world would be extinguished. Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. You may tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.” Written by Editor Newsman Francis Pharcellus Church

Wrap it up! 7 amazing ways to use vintage and recycled finds to wrap your gifts. Text by Priscila Barros Photographs by Heather Bullard

Be Resourceful And make your gifts extra special while being good to mother earth by using vintage and recycled wrapping paper! How you wrap your gifts is like your business card. If it looks good then people want to know more about what’s inside. Things like sheet music, maps, fabric and old comics are great ways to wrap your gifts up in a unique and fun way!

If every American family wrapped just three presents in reused materials, it would save enough paper to cover 45,000 football fields. -Eco-chick.com

Vintage Wallpaper Using charming wallpaper is a great way to save as well as make your packages look chic! Wallpaper comes in huge rolls so you will be able to wrap more presents for less. Using a glue gun to glue down the corners is the trick when using wallpaper. Tape just doesn’t stay put! Mini Flocked Wallpaper Rolls: $24.00 Find these here: Under The Red Roof.

Vintage Maps Maps are a very gender neutral choice and can be found for next to nothing at local thrift shops. You might even have a few lying around.

Old Sewing Patterns This idea is perfect to use when giving a handmade gift. You will want to wrap your gifts in a couple of layers of your sewing pattern since the paper is so thin.

Old Linen Make some gift bags out of old fabric. This is a fun idea because you can customize your bags and also make them the right size for your gift! By adding beads and old jewelry you can really glam up your bag.

Old Boxes Glam up an old shoebox that you have lying around with glitter, ribbon and lace. This is a perfect project to have your kids help with because there is no wrong way to do it!

Old Trinkets Using old trinkets and toys to embellish your gifts is a fun way to make your packages as fun as the gifts inside. Make sure to do it by theme, for example: If you are giving a little boy some new cowboy pajamas use an old cowboy badge, doll or toy horse to tie outside the package. It will keep them guessing as to what’s inside the package!

Millinery Flowers Charming, pretty and timeless millinery flowers are a beautiful way to take your package from ordinary to fabulous.

Fuchsia Pink Millinery: $6.00 Find it at My so Called Junk Life

Fabulous Budget Decorating Ideas Text by Priscila Barros

ABC’s and 123’s Personalize your child’s room with numbers and letters. You can find vintage marquee letters at local flea markets for cheap and you can also make them with premade wood letters you find at local hobby store. Abbey Hendrickson personalized her son's room with his first initial "E".

Use fun, vintage numbers in different shapes, sizes and colors to create a big impact on the wall! See more pictures at Eco Modern Baby Fun Idea: You could use the number on the wall to put babies birthday, weight or size which makes the room more personal to you also!

Dress it up with Decals

Decorating with decals is easy and mess free! Changing them is also a breeze which comes handy with your little one’s never ending changing taste!

Fun Transportation

Apple and Pear

Panda and Friends

Making these decals is easy and creates a huge impact in a child’s space! The Happy Home shows us how. What you will need:

• A cutting mat or chopping board • Clear overhead projector sheets or the plastic cover sheet from a document. • A stencil template. Print out a great shape, pattern or photograph, trace one or draw your own. Obviously the less detail the easier it’ll be for you. • If you’re going for a large area or just one color, a sample pot is ideal. But if you’re doing smaller pieces and lots of different colors like I have, skip the hardware store and grab an acrylic art set from the $2 shop. You can just mix the colors to get the shade you like. I mixed mine with a pot of plain white interior paint. • Something to mix the paint on. I used an old tile. • Scalpel for cutting out.

• Paintbrush • Spray adhesive so your stencil will stick to the wall smoothly and stop the paint bleeding.

How to: 1. Place your stencil template underneath the sheet of plastic and use the scalpel to cut around the shape. You might not go straight through the plastic first go, but the groove will be enough to gently retrace your steps and cut through. 2. Work out which way the stencil should go on the wall (remember, text can only go one way!) and use the spray adhesive to spray the back of the stencil lightly. Leave to dry for about a minute and then stick on the wall in place. Smooth your hands over the whole sheet so no bumps and press extra firmly around the edges of the cut-out so it’s fitted properly to the wall. Any gaps will mean the paint will bleed through and cause you to swear loudly.

3. Mix your paints or go with your pre-mixed paint and lightly brush from the outside of the cut-out in towards the middle. Ensure the paint goes right to the edges but remember to smooth it back into the middle as paint will naturally pool on the edges and not look so even once the stencil is removed (and can also lead to smudges). Once stencil is filled in, brush lightly in one direction over whole image for final neat brushstrokes. 4. Gently peel away the stencil from the wall and you should have your image sitting all pretty by itself. You can use several times before you need to respray the adhesive. It pays to wipe the front of the stencil and the inside edges over inbetween uses with a baby wipe or damp tissue to prevent build up which can warp your shape. Layla’s finished nursery wall! Online: • Etsy: Featuring over 170,000 sellers, you can search for any item and likely find it. • Indie Fixx: This site is like an 'indie mall' featuring a juried mix of designers & boutiques. • Shop Handmade: One stop Handmade shopping. Near You: Craft Fairs: They are popping up in most major cities. Our local Patchwork Craft Fair has over 60 handmade vendors all in one location. Also check for small events at churches, non-profits, and schools. You never know what you might find!

Last week I thoughtfully penned my Christmas shopping list. I will not, however, be heading to the mall the day after Thanksgiving. (okay I never had the gusto for that, but you get my drift.) I will be taking my cash directly to the craft fairs. I hit the farmers market for some gourmet breads and local honey and jam. My mama friends will get some swanky writing papers and embossed snazzy pencils from a local crafter, picked up at a craft fair.

It’s more fun. I have a much better time with my family being outside, slowly perusing vendors, enjoying local eats, than dragging the clan to the mall. Trying to park, trying to hear each other over the roar along the cavernous, endless marble floors. I buy cooler stuff. Beautiful, interesting things that my friends and family hadn’t seen before. I support a neighbor. I love getting a chance to meet the person behind the craft. It makes it more personal, and allows me to tell a cool story to whomever I’ve given the gift. People love getting something unique. It gives them a chance to shine! More good info at Buyhandmade.org
