Students Provide Hope and Love to the Detroit Rescue Mission The start of the school year has come and gone all too quickly, as Plymouth Christian celebrated its 35th Birthday with all the excitement and anticipation that began so many years ago! With each passing year, we celebrate our rich heritage and the continuing legacy of equipping students to impact our world for Christ. Through many daunting challenges, God has greatly blessed our school and we look forward to many more years of being good stewards of the precious treasure of Christian education. We invite you to join in prayer, on behalf of PCA, from Psalm 90:17 which says, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.” We are privileged to partner together to provide quality Christian education, not just to prepare students to make a living… but to equip them to Your investment in Plymouth Christian live a life pleasing to Christ! is seen as so much more than a May we continue, in 2012, to be a school faithful to its promise to provide a contribution simply toward brick and Christ-centered education where students develop a heart for God, a mind for mortar. welcomed students and families back to school in September. This chapter in our history has been written, the ribbon cutting ceremony has passed, and the locker room facilities are now busy with student activity‌..but the legacy continues. God’s blessing and tremendous generosity on behalf of PCA families and friends, has allowed the school to complete this phase of campus expansion. Thank you to our Booster Board and the Athletic Department for never giving up! As He has done so often in the history of PCA, God richly blessed our school beyond our expectations. Praise and honor to God who provides all good things!
FALL SPORTS WRAP UP For the 2011-2012 athletic teams, the school year began with high expectations of great accomplishments like those we have seen in past years. Our Varsity volleyball team enjoyed another excellent season. They continued a legacy that began last year as they won their SECOND REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in a row by defeating Lansing Christian HS and North Adams-Jerome HS. The excitement continued as they won their NINTH STRAIGHT DISTRICT TOURNAMENT by defeating Rudolf-Steiner HS and Washtenaw Christian HS. WAY TO GO EAGLES! These achievements Taylor Brown cheers our PCA teams on to victory! placed them in the STATE QUARTERFINAL game where we were pitted against St. Philip Catholic HS – our nemesis from the State Finals last year. Even after a valiant effort, and some of the best play by our girls all season, St. Philip Catholic unfortunately prevailed. We’ll get ‘em next year, girls! To qualify for the All-State Academic Team, the team had to have an average GPA of 3.3 or higher. Also, the state awards All-State Academic Individual Awards to seniors who have a GPA of 3.7 or higher. Jessica Rich, Amy Zinn, and Kristin great athletes, we have great students! Getting Plugged in... A big thanks to all the PCA Dads who attended our second dads heard from Keynote Speaker, Dr. Wood, as he expressed his passion for Christian education. All attendees received an awesome PCA mug and a newly created resource guide, developed just for them. This guide is full of useful information they can get involved at Plymouth Christian Academy. Included in this guide is information about an exciting our campus, visit http://www.plymouthchristian.org/justfor-dads.cfm. Save the date for next year’s event which is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, 2012. We are excited to welcome Keynote Speaker, and parent of three PCA students, Pastor Wayne Kurtycz from NorthRidge Church.
Michigan Green School Program Surprises PCA we were focusing on ways that we would be good stewards of God’s Creation. Imagine our surprise when the Green School Coordinator contacted us this fall with a gift! On November 9, Mr. George Huntsman and Mr. Dan Paulson picked up three 10-foot Northern Red Oak trees to help beautify our campus. The Alliance of Rouge Communities provided the funding for the purchase of these trees, for schools within the Rouge River Watershed in Oakland and Wayne Counties. Paulson and Jon Slater, a 2011 PCA graduate, and a few other student volunteers from Lawrence Technological University, planted our trees within a few days. PCA’s nature trail. In addition to the three oaks, we also received 25 White Pine seedlings. They are currently being nurtured offsite and will be planted next fall on school property. We’re looking forward to the future growth that will take place on our 45 acres!
Plymouth Christian Hosts the 1st Ever Cross Country Time Trial in our school’s history, PCA hosted a cross-country time trial on September 1. Athletic Director Rick Swilley, and Cross Country and Track Coach Jennifer Lemieux, mapped out the course, incorporating the nature trail 88-degree temperature, the runners really seemed to enjoy the variety that the course provided. Truly a developers of the nature trail!
Calling All Grandparents!
New this year…An Easter Celebration with PCA Grandparents! Mark your calendars for Grandparent’s Day to share an afternoon with their grandparents in an Easter Chapel. It promises to be a very special chapel presentation by Rod Snow, Chalk Artist. As Grandparents, you will enjoy a reception just for you in the Calvary Baptist Church Narthex prior to joining your grandchild(ren) in chapel. We look forward to seeing you there!
During this season of joy and thankfulness, the entire PCA staff wishes your family, friends and loved ones God’s richest blessings!
35th Birthday Auction “Takes the Cake!” All the gifts have been opened, the decorations have been put away, and what a celebration we had in honor of PCA! This year’s Annual Fall Auction was a huge success, raising over $70,000 for HIS SCHOOL! Our entire school family joined in the 35th birthday celebration, as we celebrated the past and secured the future. The balloons, the unique and exciting auction items, the entertainment, the auctioneer, and who can forget the 20 foot tall birthday cake? We wish to extend a huge thank you to everyone who supported this year’s event with gifts of time and donations. It truly was the birthday celebration of the year! PCA’s family and friends truly blessed our students by generously donating over $21,000 to help fund new Smart Boards for some of our secondary and elementary classrooms. This exciting, interactive spring 2012. Please remember to support the businesses that supported us via their donations and sponsorships, by visiting them throughout the year, and will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen before!
The 2012 Merit Scholarship Competition Over 1.5 million students from 22,000 high schools around the nation (including PCA’s Class of 2012) took the PSAT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) a nationwide competition for recognition and awards conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Although they will not continue in the 2012 competition for the National Merit Scholarship, they were acknowledged for their exceptional academic promise.

Another School Record Shattered…. God’s creation is truly exciting, and our secondary students are busy rolling up their sleeves to delve a little deeper to discover how it all works! Our 7th graders are focusing on Earth Science this year. This fall, they explored how hot air rises by launching their own hot air balloons and watching a solar balloon lift off. The 8th graders are focusing on Physical Science this school year. 8th grader Brittany Breton, new to PCA, broke the school record by having her toothpick bridge (under 100 grams) hold 135 seconds! The record prior to that was set by Greg Manni at 105 lbs
We have also been challenged, and had fun, exploring electricity and creating our own series and parallel circuits as well as a circuit board. The Biology Department has embarked on a new program this year, and has hosted three Sunday School Creation Science classes in conjunction with Calvary Baptist Church. The 4th and 5th grade Sunday school students have had morning of each month in the PCA Science Lab, discovering how far, the students have learned how layers in the earth can form quickly
not need billions of years to form. They also had the opportunity to measure the ark, and discovered that it would almost encompass the entire PCA parking lot! The students thoroughly enjoyed creating their own rainbows and crystals, as well. Secondary science students have enjoyed assisting in these classes and also received community service hours for their help on Sunday mornings. It is so exciting to see the students from PCA and Calvary Baptist partnering together to learn about God’s creation!
GREATEST SERVICE EVENT OF THE YEAR! PLYMOUTH CHRISTIAN ACADEMY students and staff will soon embark on the school’s 3rd Annual Servathon, which is a charitable event for local groups and organizations and a fundraiser for the school. Project SHINE (Serving Him In Neighborhoods Everywhere) is a dynamic event that helps students grow in their faith as they serve others. This community outreach effort, in which all students and staff from preschool through 12th grade take part, is designed to spark a life-long passion to serve others and reach out to those in need in a variety of ways. The service projects are such as: The Detroit Rescue Mission, The Salvation Army, Penrickton Center for the Blind, Gleaners, Grace Centers of Hope, Orphan Care (through NorthRidge Church) and so many more! Last year, we put our students in touch with an organization called Desert Angels and adopted a platoon stationed in Iraq. Lt Jesse Backman (Mrs. Larabee’s nephew and former PCA student), was their platoon leader. While in Iraq, Jesse and his platoon received dozens of care packages from PCA students. Lt Backman was blessed to see our students give from their hearts, but most importantly, they gave the gift of the Gospel. Our students donated care kits, Bibles, prayer cards and letters of love and encouragement. Jesse’s wife, Michelle, had their baby boy while Jesse was in Iraq. We are praising God for his safe return home this past summer and he and his wife are enjoying their new baby boy, Titus!
We are earnestly praying now and invite you to pray that God will… “prepare His people for the works of
service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” Ephesians 4:12. Project SHINE will take place during the month of May. Students will be sending out support letters in April, 2012. Stay tuned for all the Servathon details!
STUDENTS DONATE CHRISTMAS BAGS FOR HOMELESS MEN AND WOMEN
During the last several weeks, our entire K-12th grade student body participated in a Thanksgiving After hearing the need that the Detroit Rescue Mission had for Care Kits to help homeless men and women, countless students and families responded with donations, and over 300 bags and learned the importance of reaching out to those in need. Making it even more personal, upper elementary students included letters and cards of love expressing their interest and concern, and shared their love of Jesus with whoever received their bag. The bags were carefully decorated by our lower

bag was all wrapped up in a pretty bow. Coming together as an entire school to dedicate the bags at our annual all-school Thanksgiving Chapel is always a highlight of the year at Plymouth Christian. Vice President of the Detroit Rescue Mission, Bruce Calderwood, was in attendance, as well as Marci Fitch, Director of Volunteer Services. It was truly humbling for our students to hear the vision of the Detroit Rescue Mission and the testimony of a man who came to know Jesus through the DRMM. The high school Praise and Worship Team, and the message from Dr. Wood, made the day complete. Our appreciation goes to each PCA family who responded to sharing God’s love with those in

When we visited PCA we were overwhelmed with the compassion and support teachers and staff gave to us and their commitment to God. We knew immediately PCA was the right place for him to be. He has now been a student here for 7 years. this so much it eventually led to substitute teaching. I was amazed at the passion students showed for learning and their commitment to Jesus. Often times I would over hear student conversations and love the fact it was about the Bible. February of 2011. MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK! A THANK YOU FROM THE PTF… A huge thank you to the volunteers that came out for the Parent Teacher Fellowship projects and events this past summer and fall! So much was accomplished during our time of fellowship. The PTF is extremely appreciative of all the ways we partner together to support our faculty and staff! The monies earned from Market Day, the Eagle’s popcorn sales all fund our classrooms and special projects. Accomplishments throughout the summer and fall:
On August 11, many didn’t think the school would be ready for the return of the students. On the outside there was much to be tackled: landscaping, the staining of the bleachers, spreading of mulch, painting of the parking lot curbs, and the addition of lattice on the modulars. We didn’t even get to the inside yet! It seemed that all the lockers, shelves, and every corner was covered in construction dust. With over 45 volunteers responding to the call for help; staff, alumni, current students, new students, and many parents, the school was put back together just in time for all involved!!!
the many new families that came out to our picnic at Plymouth Township Park. It was also an amazing answer to prayer as the day began with a very bad weather forecast. Heavy rains, strong winds, possible hail, and even tornadoes were forecasted to begin at 4pm, the exact time of the start of our picnic! Many people began praying that morning and the rains and storms held off until the last car pulled away from our picnic at 8:05pm! Parent volunteers are critical to the functioning of PCA and we thank you for all the ways you the fruit and baking ministries, special luncheons for staff, and on and on, we cannot thank you enough! We wish you a blessed and Merry Christmas!
A Word from Mrs. Huntsman Nehemiah 8:10b “For the joy of the Lord is your strength.” One of the opportunities we have as parents is to teach our children about the joy of the Lord and the strength He can give them in their lives. Our children watch us each day. They watch how we handle stressful situations. Do we react with discouragement and anger when we are disappointed or praise the Lord and give thanks for everything? Humanly speaking, it is natural for us to complain, lash out verbally or get in a mood. What I realized early on when training my children was they watched what I did! They watched how my husband and I reacted to life’s situations. I will be honest; sometimes we got an F- on how we reacted. I heard a speaker once say that as Christians, sometimes we have to practice saying nice things in the mirror so when the hard times come or stressful events happen, we are
an example of joyful living in the midst of tribulation! Let us purpose together to react in all situations in a way that will glorify God and not blame Him or others. Praying for you, Mrs. Huntsman
Expanding Minds and Talents…. The PCA Robotics Club is expanding this year! Thanks to Mrs. Jessica Wash, PCA Secondary Computer teacher, this growing club will now include students from 5th grade – 12th grade. The objective of the Robotics Club is to introduce students to some of the aspects involved in an engineering career. Students will also discover what is involved in an engine, while gaining more knowledge about science, technology and math, while developing critical engineering skills. Club members will be tasked with designing and building a robot to be entered into in the University. Mrs. Wash will be assisted by Mr. Tim Winn, a parent of a PCA seventh grader, and Robotics leader for the last two years. Mr. Winn will be an acting mentor to this year’s program. He brings with him a vast amount of experience as both a small business owner and mechanical engineer. Let the games begin!
