968 With A Happy Ending

This month’s photo was submitted by Ricardo Arnaldo of his wife, Virginia’s, 1993 968 cabriolet. The photo was taken in their Homestead forest.

When Ricardo and Virginia attended a Concourse show, they saw this Amethyst 968 cabriolet with gray leather interior and absolutely fell in love with it. The car won a trophy that day but it was not for sale. A few years later they saw it advertised in Panorama. Ricardo and Virginia had three Porsches at the time but Virginia did not know much about the 968. After much discussion, Ricardo went out to purchase the 968 and gave it to Virginia for her birthday. According to Ricardo, only 22 968s had the Amethyst color. “So this was sort of a vehicle love story with a happy ending!” says Ricardo.

This photo gives us a demure glimpse of the 968 although I am fairly certain Virginia’s Porsche is anything but modest and reserved. The Amethyst color really pops where the sun is hitting it between the shadows cast by the forest enticing us further with this peek-a-boo effect.

Ricardo used a Pentax K3 DSLR, ISO 400, lens at 22mm open to F 7.1 and a Polarizer to capture the unusual color.
