EVERYBODY LOVES A GOOD MYSTERY Story by Nicolas Liakas

From the dawn of time to today’s confinement due to a pandemic, mysteries have played a critical role in our lives. Everyone loves one: right? SBR took it upon itself to prove that proposition.

On the morning of October 17, 2020, twenty-nine spectacular Porsches of all colors and heritage pulled into a parking lot in Camarillo ready to take part in an event promoted as The Magical Mystery Tour. The fifty-three humans arriving with the Carreras, turbos, cabriolets, SUVs, etc. had hunger in their eyes, ready for something more pleasurable and invigorating than reading or watching the latest news about COVID-19. They were ready to go, and they were not disappointed.

Until about five days before the event, no one knew where, how, or when The Magical Mystery Tour would take place; they just knew to hold the date. A review of the document that was sent disclosed the route, and it was exciting. Starting in Camarillo and ending in Santa Barbara County, the two-and-one-half hours of following directions, making turns, climbing hills, and descending into valleys, the mystery became public.

Many participants were on their first SBR touring drive, and, boy, are they now hooked! The group travelled along numerous roads, avenues, and streets that crisscross our local agricultural districts, while at the same time conquering canyon roads that required the intense concentration of drivers and nerves of steel for the passengers. For many, Grimes and Balcom canyons provided thrills, while flower growers graced us with splashes of colors appealing to nature lovers and, indeed, to all of us. The adventure ended around 12:30 p.m. at the junction of CA Hwy 150 and U.S. Hwy 101 in Carpinteria. The lust for more driving Photo: Leslie Power adventures was self-evident. The next one is set for January 16 when we will have our always popular Porsche Poker Run.
