pcl case study
Designing an assessment centre the issue Tunbridge Wells Borough Council was looking for a way to improve the selection of its senior managers. PCL was commissioned to design and deliver a tailored and cost effective assessment centre. This system was designed to ensure that applicants for senior posts were comprehensively and objectively assessed, delivering a fair selection process which selected the best applicant for the role.
the solution The outcome is a multi-method selection process designed to capture as much information about the candidate as possible to ensure best possible decision making and complement TWBC’s existing use of interviews and presentations. Assessments included ability tests, personality testing, assessment of behaviour under pressure and round table exercises to elicit competency based behaviours. Hand crafted reports were produced for each candidate, integrating the results from all the assessments.
the results After using the system for a number of senior appointments TWBC view the benefits as: “Giving a broader, more rounded assessment of the candidates’ abilities” “Independent and objective” “Having a written summary of competency based evidence for all candidates”
